I'm so excited for TMS on Switch. The game is super fun and hope people will take a chance on this game ❤️ Also I love they added back in Tsubasa's glasses from the concept art that got cut before release on Wii U. It's a nice touch!
TMS is such a weird game. Like, it's a crossover between Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei, but I feel like it doesn't really capture what either of those franchises are all about. I'm just so confused as to how and why they decided to mash these two franchises into an idol anime. It's still a really fun game in its own right though. Super excited to get it on Switch!
To be honest its better this way, it only mixes SMT mechanics with FE, and their Personas are FE characters, while having its own story even though FE influences it a bit, IDOL theme is well know here in JP, but i understand why western people hate it since its not really their target on this theme and why the game got backlashed hard from both franchises fans, BUT thanks nintendo for porting it out with additional content after the shit the game received, more people should play it, to know how good it is.
I love that BelleAim has been joining the discussions lately. She adds a really interesting perspective to the the different games since I'm assuming she hasn't really been heavily involved in games journalism previously. (do correct me if I'm wrong).
I wish I had enough time for all those. I didn’t really give RPGs a chance until I played Earthbound and Fire Emblem Three Houses lately. I’m now playing through DQXIS and am having a blast. I’m excited to see more of what the genre has to offer in the future.

@@nintendogejpeg Its a very cute and relaxing game, due to how easy it is and its simple combat. The story is okay, but it has its charm. I just wish the game would let you figure out stuff on your own instead of explaining all of its puzzles to you. I would say to get it on discount.
I love this game, but it has a pretty slow start. I think it starts to really take off once you get more characters to session with, especially once they get the ability to session from outside the active party. Ad-Libs and Duo Performances unlocked from character episodes are also super good and can trigger a second, or even a third session if you're lucky.
As someone who hasn't played Persona 5, I'm glad to hear that this games dungeons are the best before P5. Sometimes not playing an amazing game is an advantage as it doesn't color your expectations of other games in the genre.
I specifically remember at one point during the dungeon with the mannequins, I got cocky and tried to take on one of the purple mirages, subsequently got my a$$ handed to me and then had to do the whole puzzle over again XD
You could skip the mini-cutscene for going through the mannequins by pressing (maybe holding?) the X button on Wii U, which makes it really fast and not that annoying.
SaicaFox we found out about the new game in April 2019 persona 5 came out in 2017. Of course people are going to do all of this before it comes out in March
It took me around 120 hours to beat Persona 5, My friend on his second play through was able to beat the game in around 50 hours but that was with him knowing everything to do, having all the Social Stats maxed out and Skipping through literally all the dialogue.
What I really love about Tokyo Mirage is that it reminds me of an old cartoon I used to watch as a kid. Jem. Not the sucky movie, im talking about the 80s OG Jem. Oh, next Friday...I cant wait! I miss Touma!
I was just getting into the FE series when this game launched, so it blew under the radar (For a lot of people actually. It was marketed weirdly and no one really knew what it was or what it was about) But I am SO hyped to play this. I got into FE really deep and its my favorite series, and I really enjoy the Persona/SMT series now. The music is wonderful, and though I am not one for idol culture and such, the game seems very interesting and fun. I am very happy to be getting this game soon

After playing Persona 5, I have to say, I prefer Tokyo Mirage Sessions a great deal more. TMS is fun, doesn't really take itself seriously, and respects the players time. Persona 5 felt like the opposite and was ultimately frustrating to play for me.
Hey i totally agree with you. I prefer Persona 3 Portable and 4 Golden over 5 any day. Seemed more straight forward. 5 felt like a major task...i love 5 still but it didnt hold me like the others did. I will get Scramble since i love Musou/Beat em up games. But yea ill definitely be picking up this up when it drops.
@@randallmart92 I'd have probably enjoyed Persona 5 if it didn't rely on such outdated design choices and had better writing. I have too many major issues with the game to list. Though, its art, music, and presentation are striking enough for many to overlook those problems. Which is pretty sad imo.
@@ictoan4258 - Joker dying is an instant Game Over regardless if you have healthy party members to revive him. SMT 4, Apocalypse, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions abandoned this years ago, and even Dragon Quest 11 makes this optional. - Instant kill spells are all useless. The MP cost is too great to consider using over All-Out attacks. Conversely, if a shadow uses one against you, all you can do is just pray it doesn't hand you the Game Over again. - Bosses don't have weakness. So, the Baton Pass (which is really the only new battle mechanic) is never useful in situations when it would actually matter most, opposed to the Press Turn system in SMT or the Session Combos in Tokyo Mirage. - Enemy reinforcements aren't always difficult, but they are random, can skip your turn, and can potentially wipe Joker even if you scored the enemy weakness beforehand. Essentially punishing the player for doing exactly what the game intended.
Crono Epsilon solid points, and fun fact: I believe smtva also had that mechanic if you went with the apocalypse difficulty and as far as I am aware every other persona game had it too
I loved the original but the loading time for random encounters were really obnoxious and I'm happy to see on the Switch images that they are pretty much non-existent so I'm really hyped for this and will get it day one! It's one of the few games that made me think "hmmm I should get my Wii U back from the shelf to play a bit". It's not a Xenoblade Chronicles, but it's still a fun game.
New Model Thronebreaker is, if I’m not mistaken, still considered a Witcher spin-off therefor a Witcher game. Persona is and always will be a spin-off of SMT that features gameplay mechanics and the same Demons/Personas. Also Persona 3 and 4 were labeled “Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3/Persona 4”. Persona 5 is the only one that didn’t feature this label on it, but it’s still part of the overall universe.

Also, Thronebreaker is a game set in Witcher universe with Witcher characters utilizing the Gwent mechanics; Gwent is a game in Witcher universe with Witcher characters based on the mini-game in Witcher 3. Persona is loosely based on SMT magic/demon system, that's all. There are no other points of connection. Witcher/Thronebreaker = Halo/Halo Wars (same universe/story as main series, different genre); SMT/Persona = Drakengard/Nier (despite similar genre, daughter series loosely based on mother series, not much in common, daughter series much more successful). As I said, playing Thronebreaker is not playing Witcher game; it is playing a game set in Wither universe. Also, like you said, Persona 5 is not called SMT: Persona, so, as I said, she haven't, and I stand corrected with "hasn't".
I've made it my goal to finally actually beat M-Deus in Encore. I've attempted him a few times on Lunatic but I didnt optimize my team properly so he always gets enough time to charge up his Dies Irae. I'll definitely be optimized by my second run

Better put those resources in a game that can be released in an uncompromised form than doing stuff like this. ah cool, I was worried this was a rhythm, game, as the name suggests it music focused? a "P5-Lite" sounds absolutely perfect to me. I Got P5 for the very limited time I had a PS4, and I did play through quite a bit of it, so never finished it. Having a less regimented version of that would be a great experience. Also Hope the action version of P5 comes to the west soon, looks amazing.
So how extensive are the new additions to the game? You guys said the first EX chapter is really short, do they get better in length and add a little bit of meat to the package or are they mostly forgettable? From what you said with Tiki sounds like Maiko and Barry are also just gonna be random session add-ins which is pretty lame ngl since a new character to the party would be a really nice selling point for a remaster of the game. It's probably just gonna make the game easier too since it just up player damage.
TMS, Persona Lite? I agree completely - I would choose this comparison as well. (Just, uh, keep in mind that the Sessions will probably grow old during New Game+, when you don't need Sessions to roflstomp most of the opposition.)
Jon's really underestimating P5's length - I'm... 130 hours or so in, didn't finish, and am absolutely terrified to go back since my options at this point are trying to figure out what the hell I was doing or restarting knowing that there's 130 hours ahead of me to catch up if I do that.
I get the impression that he either hasn’t played P5 or he never beat the game. It took me 136 hours to beat P5 and that was over 2 years ago. Anyone who has played and beaten P5 would never underestimate its length. Even when going off from memory.
It legit has nothing to do with FIre Emblem. There's like 9 random names that comes from Fire Emblem and the last dungeon is themed after Fire Emblem but it's a J-Pop RPG through and through. It's neither Shin Megami Tensei nore Fire Emblem.
Well you don't really feel the Fe side in the game but more the smt one, because it just has some Fe characters whereas the story and the gameplay really feel like in a smt game
To be specific, the only parts of this game that are Fire Emblem are the names of bosses and the powers of the playable characters, not even the personalities. If the names were changed this game would have nothing to do with FE
Once I get through my 2019 backlog and wait for some sort of discount then I'll check this game out I remember when it first came out it was too off putting but now I'm looking forward its release and how everyone else will react to this game

Evan Hicks Yeah, it’s not as dark as SMT, but it doesn’t take itself that seriously, so it’s fine. And while it pales in comparison to most SMT & Persona games, it’s honestly way more enjoyable than P5.
Exactly they keep comparing it to Persona, when the gameplay is very much based on Shin Megami Tensei when it comes to dungeon structure and pacing, the combat is also entirely taken from SMT.
@@ninjaheart100 I'm okay with it (Atlus made it happen), but ignoring the history of a franchise, just because you only know Persona bothers me a lot. A 5 minute research on Wikipedia would have helped here, considering that Tokyo Mirage Sessions is a crossover between Fire Emblem AND Shin Megami Tensei.
Not only is it still censored, but they went and censored the Japanese version to match the International release. The Japanese Wii U version is the ONLY way to play it uncensored.
@@Drewsefer89 There are mods to uncensor the international WiiU release of TMS. Let's hope we get something like that for the Switch release as well. If so, i might consider buying a used copy of TMS encore.
I was surprised to know that my Japanese understanding was good enough to know what they are saying in combat, but still I would’ve been grateful if they did a dub because reading is always burning me off, add to that the fact that they didn’t include a log so it’s way more stressful
I am really hoping Tokyo Mirage sessions is the reason why they did not announce persona 5 for the switch. It would make sense that they wouldn't Want us to miss out on this game if we already knew that persona 5 was coming
I think expecting anything significant out of the new content is setting yourself up for disappointment. It's the same case with the Xenoblade Chronicles rerelease for Switch, it's cut content for a reason. It wasn't fleshed out enough to be worth putting int the game originally so it makes sense that it isn't deep.

I beat persona 5 in 77 hours the first time around. on NG+ I beat in in 26 hours. This is done by skipping most of the story sections. Also I didn't buy the highest level demons from the compendium I just fused them like on NG. So I would say 50 hours is quite possible your first time around just really unlikely.

That's not true. They asked several times where would people like to see it. It probably will never be announced coming anywhere else till a few months after Royals release probably due to a timed exclusivity contract. But sega in general is take a stance of porting games everywhere because they're not doing well financially due to exclusivity.
On Japanese surveys they always ask regarding Persona on other consoles, also P5 S is a direct sequel, during the latest trailer with Mona it did show the logo with the number 2 before ending up with an S
If you mean what their mirage partners are: Itsuki's is Chrom Tsubasa's is Caeda Touma's is Cain Kiria's is Tharja Eleonora's is Virion Mamori's is Draug Yashiro's is Navarre Barry and Maiko's are currently unknown. And Tiki is Tiki. If you mean who they most resemble, I unfortunately am not THAT familiar with Fire Emblem, but Itsuki resembles Marth quite a lot.
@@bobxstar Compared to a normal Fire Emblem game, which tend to have casts of 20+, TMS is comparitively smaller at only 7 party members (+3 Support characters in Encore.)
While I'm not a fan of censorship, the game still looks fun, and if it's the closest thing to a Persona game I can get on the switch then I'll take it.
@Owain Dark You might want to take a look at the gameplay videos...it's more of a hybrid of warriors and persona 5 in the gameplay department...very different take on both of those style of games.

JamPacked They havent added more censorship at all. The censored version will the the worldwide version for Encore. But that’s still not a big deal since initial censorship (while weird and unnecessary) didnt change anything major.

Is the Switch port getting an English dub? If not, they could’ve just dubbed the spoken line and kept the Japanese songs in. That’s what they’ve done for a lot of anime dubs for decades.
I wish they did dub the normal lines or included the subtitles in battle. I am still gonna get the game but wish the story was a bit darker or more serious like Persona. Since both fire emblem and persona are dark and have serious themes.
It does a lot similar to what the newer Persona games do by deconstructing parts of every day Life. There is this whole story that goes into the more negative parts of idol culture and it's effect on the main characters which is a nice idea and the only reason I really want to play it.
Did they redo chapter 2? If they aonly censor sexy content i'm fine with that. But they alter the story to the point it really hard to understand and fail to tell the same story like the japanese WIiU version did. That what I'm angry about and hope it gone.
I feel like the change to the type of modeling done in chapter 2 doesn't change the plot by much, aside from some context, since it wasn't the focus in the first place, rather it was a catalyst for the real focus of the plot: Tsubasa and Nobu's character arcs. Tsubasa's was about learning from her mistakes and those that came before her to do her very best (or something along those lines. Her's was the weak link IMO) and Nobu's was about letting go of the past since his obsession with trying to recapture Maiko's glory days kept him from appreciating the potential of all his new models.
Go ahead if you want, if you can't pay your bills and ruin your life then that'll be on you It's not people bitching about censorship though, it's people bitching about censorship in a full retail game where a lot of dialogue didn't get dubbed or subbed.
For your point about "they can't translate the songs into English" I call a respectful BULLSHIT because if you actually try to sing the songs with the Japanese melody but the English subtitles, THE SYLLABLES FIT. EVERY TIME. IT'S SO COOL AND IT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THE GAME. So yeah I don't mind no dub but the songs are ABSOLUTELY translatable because they are already translated.
While I am glad people like the game, and honestly if I took the time to play it with an open mind I might like it too. However, as a huge FE fan this is definitely not what I want as a crossover so I won't be getting it. If I ever find it second hand and it's like 20 bucks then maybe I'll play it and change my mind but yea this is a big skip for me.
Emily Walker not really sure what you were expecting since neither series is really compatible with the other. It’s a shame to see people not appreciate what it tried to do. I think the developers did a great job with the crossover and creating something new and imaginative with it.
@@blueskydreams And I don't understand why people can't understand why its a bad crossover to begin with. To begin with its not even an SMT crossover, its a Persona one. And there's barely any fire emblem in this game outside of characters omages which if you swapped the names of the characters you wouldn't even notice. Just having the characters and oh boy there's a Dragon at the end doesn't make it a good FE crossover, even more so when the only SMT vibes are the elemental weaknesses and spell names. There's no daemon merging mechanic or swapping out which is big in SMT, no engaging story line, barely any recruitable characters and the ones that do exist most of them suck as characters and their sidequests ( a mix of social links and supports) suck. All it needed to do is have SMT faithful play style with FE characters and a decent story, that's all people wanted and it didn't do it. Instead we got Idol sh*t, bare bones story, blank slates of fe characters, bad dungeons, boring characters and so much cringe I don't even know what to do with it. TMS is literally a game that they made in the persona style, remembered that they promised a crossover, slapped some FE cosmetic stuff in it and called it a day. And if it had been released as its own game without these elememts I would be more open to it but it's just using the 2 big franchises to make itself more likely to be purchased instead of celebrating any of the elements from either series that make them great. Also the games are very compatible, honestly it could have ended up as a good mix of the devil survivor games and fe but no they wanted persona. Blegh
@@EvilAngel4116 But they aren't really advertising it as this big crossover you are thinking of. I remember them saying that idea (the trailer we got) was changed very early in development. They wanted to make something different and something that stands on its own. I feel you binding to the original idea is holding you back from enjoying a pretty decent.

Instead they kept those elements to make it more popular to draw in the fans of those respective fan bases. And I did look into the game because I still like jrpgs but after looking at a no talk walkthrough I decided it wasn't worth because while the battle system is engaging and fun, everything is average at best. Including the characters who are so cringey it hurts. So yea anyone who decides not to play it aren't missing much.
@@veiledmystery7219 It's a lot more similar to strange journey than Persona's once more system. And there is basically no social aspects at all in the game. The character stories are sidequests where they develop like most JRPGs with a large cast of party members (ala Tales etc.). There's no social linking or school life at all in the games so the persona comparisons really only match at the brighter colors and more "anime" tropes.
I did enjoy this more than P5.... Persona 5 isn't all that, people just dick ride it. P3/P4 are much better especially P3F/P4G. Hope P5R doesn't disappoint like P5 disappointed me. Also glad they didn't sub this game.
They ignored the fans that just wanted an unaltered game and now even Japanese fans have to put up with the censored western version. The backlash is unsurprising. At least they offered an apology and full refunds for Japanese canceled pre orders that came from this decision. I don't tolerate censorship in my games in any form so just as the first release this is pretty much dead on arrival for me.

They didn't allow refunds because of censorship. Nintendo (in Japan) used screenshots that were from the original Wii U release, therefore it was technically false advertising. It had nothing to do with the censorship itself or supposed complaints about it.
The fact that EVERY version is still censored (even the japanese now) and they still left out that content and DLC makes me avoid this game like the plague

The gameplay is all Megaten inspired. It's just used in a different setting and different story and Fire Emblem characters.

Switch has been a never ending stream of RPGs for me. Went from DQXIs to Witcher III to Ni no Kuni, now TMS is about to come out!

I was just getting into the FE series when this game launched, so it blew under the radar (For a lot of people actually. It was marketed weirdly and no one really knew what it was or what it was about) But I am SO hyped to play this. I got into FE really deep and its my favorite series, and I really enjoy the Persona/SMT series now. The music is wonderful, and though I am not one for idol culture and such, the game seems very interesting and fun. I am very happy to be getting this game soon

After playing Persona 5, I have to say, I prefer Tokyo Mirage Sessions a great deal more.
TMS is fun, doesn't really take itself seriously, and respects the players time.
Persona 5 felt like the opposite and was ultimately frustrating to play for me.
Hey i totally agree with you. I prefer Persona 3 Portable and 4 Golden over 5 any day. Seemed more straight forward. 5 felt like a major task...i love 5 still but it didnt hold me like the others did. I will get Scramble since i love Musou/Beat em up games. But yea ill definitely be picking up this up when it drops.
@@randallmart92 I'd have probably enjoyed Persona 5 if it didn't rely on such outdated design choices and had better writing. I have too many major issues with the game to list. Though, its art, music, and presentation are striking enough for many to overlook those problems. Which is pretty sad imo.

- Joker dying is an instant Game Over regardless if you have healthy party members to revive him. SMT 4, Apocalypse, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions abandoned this years ago, and even Dragon Quest 11 makes this optional.
- Instant kill spells are all useless. The MP cost is too great to consider using over All-Out attacks. Conversely, if a shadow uses one against you, all you can do is just pray it doesn't hand you the Game Over again.
- Bosses don't have weakness. So, the Baton Pass (which is really the only new battle mechanic) is never useful in situations when it would actually matter most, opposed to the Press Turn system in SMT or the Session Combos in Tokyo Mirage.
- Enemy reinforcements aren't always difficult, but they are random, can skip your turn, and can potentially wipe Joker even if you scored the enemy weakness beforehand. Essentially punishing the player for doing exactly what the game intended.
Crono Epsilon solid points, and fun fact: I believe smtva also had that mechanic if you went with the apocalypse difficulty and as far as I am aware every other persona game had it too
I loved the original but the loading time for random encounters were really obnoxious and I'm happy to see on the Switch images that they are pretty much non-existent so I'm really hyped for this and will get it day one! It's one of the few games that made me think "hmmm I should get my Wii U back from the shelf to play a bit". It's not a Xenoblade Chronicles, but it's still a fun game.

I absolutely hated how in the Wii U version the gamepad was mandatory even if you play with the pro controller.
It was a cute little gimmick, but forcing it and killing off-tv play was a bad decision.
I also hated that u can't use the pro controller on other games either.

New Model Thronebreaker is, if I’m not mistaken, still considered a Witcher spin-off therefor a Witcher game. Persona is and always will be a spin-off of SMT that features gameplay mechanics and the same Demons/Personas. Also Persona 3 and 4 were labeled “Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3/Persona 4”. Persona 5 is the only one that didn’t feature this label on it, but it’s still part of the overall universe.

Persona is loosely based on SMT magic/demon system, that's all. There are no other points of connection.
Witcher/Thronebreaker = Halo/Halo Wars (same universe/story as main series, different genre); SMT/Persona = Drakengard/Nier (despite similar genre, daughter series loosely based on mother series, not much in common, daughter series much more successful). As I said, playing Thronebreaker is not playing Witcher game; it is playing a game set in Wither universe.
Also, like you said, Persona 5 is not called SMT: Persona, so, as I said, she haven't, and I stand corrected with "hasn't".
The sessions sound like an improved version of strange journey's battle system. I love the sound of that.

I've made it my goal to finally actually beat M-Deus in Encore. I've attempted him a few times on Lunatic but I didnt optimize my team properly so he always gets enough time to charge up his Dies Irae. I'll definitely be optimized by my second run

ah cool, I was worried this was a rhythm, game, as the name suggests it music focused? a "P5-Lite" sounds absolutely perfect to me. I Got P5 for the very limited time I had a PS4, and I did play through quite a bit of it, so never finished it. Having a less regimented version of that would be a great experience.
Also Hope the action version of P5 comes to the west soon, looks amazing.

You guys said the first EX chapter is really short, do they get better in length and add a little bit of meat to the package or are they mostly forgettable? From what you said with Tiki sounds like Maiko and Barry are also just gonna be random session add-ins which is pretty lame ngl since a new character to the party would be a really nice selling point for a remaster of the game. It's probably just gonna make the game easier too since it just up player damage.
TMS, Persona Lite? I agree completely - I would choose this comparison as well.
(Just, uh, keep in mind that the Sessions will probably grow old during New Game+, when you don't need Sessions to roflstomp most of the opposition.)

How bad is the censorship?
Jon's really underestimating P5's length - I'm... 130 hours or so in, didn't finish, and am absolutely terrified to go back since my options at this point are trying to figure out what the hell I was doing or restarting knowing that there's 130 hours ahead of me to catch up if I do that.
I get the impression that he either hasn’t played P5 or he never beat the game. It took me 136 hours to beat P5 and that was over 2 years ago. Anyone who has played and beaten P5 would never underestimate its length. Even when going off from memory.

It legit has nothing to do with FIre Emblem. There's like 9 random names that comes from Fire Emblem and the last dungeon is themed after Fire Emblem but it's a J-Pop RPG through and through. It's neither Shin Megami Tensei nore Fire Emblem.
Well you don't really feel the Fe side in the game but more the smt one, because it just has some Fe characters whereas the story and the gameplay really feel like in a smt game
Luckily, being into FE isn't a requirement for enjoyment. TMS is basically a diet SMT game with a stylish FE skin. Hope you like it ❤️
To be specific, the only parts of this game that are Fire Emblem are the names of bosses and the powers of the playable characters, not even the personalities. If the names were changed this game would have nothing to do with FE

Exactly they keep comparing it to Persona, when the gameplay is very much based on Shin Megami Tensei when it comes to dungeon structure and pacing, the combat is also entirely taken from SMT.

Not only is it still censored, but they went and censored the Japanese version to match the International release. The Japanese Wii U version is the ONLY way to play it uncensored.

I was surprised to know that my Japanese understanding was good enough to know what they are saying in combat, but still I would’ve been grateful if they did a dub because reading is always burning me off, add to that the fact that they didn’t include a log so it’s way more stressful

I think expecting anything significant out of the new content is setting yourself up for disappointment. It's the same case with the Xenoblade Chronicles rerelease for Switch, it's cut content for a reason. It wasn't fleshed out enough to be worth putting int the game originally so it makes sense that it isn't deep.

I beat persona 5 in 77 hours the first time around. on NG+ I beat in in 26 hours. This is done by skipping most of the story sections. Also I didn't buy the highest level demons from the compendium I just fused them like on NG. So I would say 50 hours is quite possible your first time around just really unlikely.

That's not true. They asked several times where would people like to see it. It probably will never be announced coming anywhere else till a few months after Royals release probably due to a timed exclusivity contract. But sega in general is take a stance of porting games everywhere because they're not doing well financially due to exclusivity.

JamPacked They havent added more censorship at all. The censored version will the the worldwide version for Encore. But that’s still not a big deal since initial censorship (while weird and unnecessary) didnt change anything major.

I want to be excited for this, but it looks very vanilla compared to Persona 5 which I consider one of the best JRPGs of all time. And to follow with the comments section, yes it doesn't take 50 hours to finish P5.

Is the Switch port getting an English dub? If not, they could’ve just dubbed the spoken line and kept the Japanese songs in. That’s what they’ve done for a lot of anime dubs for decades.
I wish they did dub the normal lines or included the subtitles in battle. I am still gonna get the game but wish the story was a bit darker or more serious like Persona. Since both fire emblem and persona are dark and have serious themes.
This is a Shin megami tensei and fire emblem cross over, not Persona and fire emblem. Persona isn't even dark compared to SMT
It does a lot similar to what the newer Persona games do by deconstructing parts of every day Life. There is this whole story that goes into the more negative parts of idol culture and it's effect on the main characters which is a nice idea and the only reason I really want to play it.

I feel like the change to the type of modeling done in chapter 2 doesn't change the plot by much, aside from some context, since it wasn't the focus in the first place, rather it was a catalyst for the real focus of the plot: Tsubasa and Nobu's character arcs. Tsubasa's was about learning from her mistakes and those that came before her to do her very best (or something along those lines. Her's was the weak link IMO) and Nobu's was about letting go of the past since his obsession with trying to recapture Maiko's glory days kept him from appreciating the potential of all his new models.

For your point about "they can't translate the songs into English" I call a respectful BULLSHIT because if you actually try to sing the songs with the Japanese melody but the English subtitles, THE SYLLABLES FIT. EVERY TIME. IT'S SO COOL AND IT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THE GAME. So yeah I don't mind no dub but the songs are ABSOLUTELY translatable because they are already translated.

While I am glad people like the game, and honestly if I took the time to play it with an open mind I might like it too. However, as a huge FE fan this is definitely not what I want as a crossover so I won't be getting it. Emily Walker not really sure what you were expecting since neither series is really compatible with the other. It’s a shame to see people not appreciate what it tried to do. I think the developers did a great job with the crossover and creating something new and imaginative with it.
@@blueskydreams And I don't understand why people can't understand why its a bad crossover to begin with. To begin with its not even an SMT crossover, its a Persona one. And there's barely any fire emblem in this game outside of characters omages which if you swapped the names of the characters you wouldn't even notice. Just having the characters and oh boy there's a Dragon at the end doesn't make it a good FE crossover, even more so when the only SMT vibes are the elemental weaknesses and spell names. There's no daemon merging mechanic or swapping out which is big in SMT, no engaging story line, barely any recruitable characters and the ones that do exist most of them suck as characters and their sidequests ( a mix of social links and supports) suck. All it needed to do is have SMT faithful play style with FE characters and a decent story, that's all people wanted and it didn't do it. Instead we got Idol sh*t, bare bones story, blank slates of fe characters, bad dungeons, boring characters and so much cringe I don't even know what to do with it.
TMS is literally a game that they made in the persona style, remembered that they promised a crossover, slapped some FE cosmetic stuff in it and called it a day. And if it had been released as its own game without these elememts I would be more open to it but it's just using the 2 big franchises to make itself more likely to be purchased instead of celebrating any of the elements from either series that make them great. Also the games are very compatible, honestly it could have ended up as a good mix of the devil survivor games and fe but no they wanted persona. Blegh

And I did look into the game because I still like jrpgs but after looking at a no talk walkthrough I decided it wasn't worth because while the battle system is engaging and fun, everything is average at best. Including the characters who are so cringey it hurts. So yea anyone who decides not to play it aren't missing much.

@@veiledmystery7219 It's a lot more similar to strange journey than Persona's once more system. And there is basically no social aspects at all in the game. The character stories are sidequests where they develop like most JRPGs with a large cast of party members (ala Tales etc.). There's no social linking or school life at all in the games so the persona comparisons really only match at the brighter colors and more "anime" tropes.

Also glad they didn't sub this game.
They ignored the fans that just wanted an unaltered game and now even Japanese fans have to put up with the censored western version.
The backlash is unsurprising. At least they offered an apology and full refunds for Japanese canceled pre orders that came from this decision.
I don't tolerate censorship in my games in any form so just as the first release this is pretty much dead on arrival for me.

@@acebreaker7 it might not be a big deal to you, and that's totally fine, glad you can still enjoy it, but for me its a matter of principle so i vote with my wallet.
They didn't allow refunds because of censorship. Nintendo (in Japan) used screenshots that were from the original Wii U release, therefore it was technically false advertising. It had nothing to do with the censorship itself or supposed complaints about it.

The fact that EVERY version is still censored (even the japanese now) and they still left out that content and DLC makes me avoid this game like the plague
