This game is great. As an SMT fan and a Fire Emblem fan i genuinely appreciate the game, and even love it. Tsubasa is a favorite.
It helps that Mitsuru Hirata is one of my favorite creatives at Atlus, given hes the one behind part of Strange Journey, and one of the leads of Radiant Historia and Soul Hackers 2. I've noticed that his strongest aspect is always characters and character interactions. It never feels like theres a dead weight character.
I hope for a sequel, but i doubt it. Either way, Im glad to see people giving this game its due credits. Is it perfect? No. But not many games are, and theres a passion to this game that seemed like it was brought out to die.

Having known only a little of either series but snatching up any jrpg I could for the Switch, this is one of my favorite titles on that console. I understand that there were clearly issues between censorship and expectations but going in blind like I did, it was a lot of fun.

We really need more who can look past all those issues. It's in the past so I don't see why many can't just like it for what it is you know? xP

Prediction, gen alpha kids who grew up with only a Wii U who played it will make it a cult classic in 10-20 years time.

I can already see it. Hour long video essays titled something like “How Tokyo Mirage Sessions Changed My Life”

@@MintJoyPictures it's funny how the Wii U was accused of playing it too safe with all of its franchises yet the two jrpgs on the Wii U were pretty much said I don't give a crap about what your expectations of me are I'm going to do what I want.

Before this video, I was kind of on the fence about whether I should give TMS Encore a try, but you're selling it to me ngl.
This is a great review! thorough yet concise, articulate af and entertaining to watch ^^ it's a sham that it doesn't have a lot more views

Thank you for doing this game justice, it's one of my favorite games on the wii u.

This video made me wanna boot up the game again. Upon finishing Encore back when it came out I felt lukewarm about it. I absolutely loved the presentation with the visuals and I also have a soft spot for J-Pop music, but just felt pretty standard for a JRPG gameplay-wise. Which isn’t bad, it’s a solid foundation, but toward the end it just felt stale. Nothing more than exploiting weaknesses I felt I had to really master about the game.
After watching this however, I remember how much soul was put into it, and I wanna re-experience it again. I just gotta buy it again lol. So thank you.

You can see how this game influenced fire emblem engage and persona 5 royal/persona 3 reloaded. I like games like this that break from the norm. Nowadays most games feel cookie cuter. I miss games like xenosaga, shadow hearts, and Lost Odyssey.

19:33 - I’d personally put that on the fact that some genius thought it’d be a good idea to take the censorship from the western releases and make that the default state of the game internationally.

And now the original Japanese WII U Version is a collectors item as a result. They really didn't do this game any favors from censoring things in such a way that makes zero sense in the confines of the games setting. The New default version of the game only further shrunk the already niche audience the game had.

It's crazy because I love Itsuki for all the reasons you don't tbh. I love that he's a down-to-earth, mundane guy who prefers to hang in the back and support everyone else.

When Switch has P3, P4. P5, P5S, SMT V, SMT VV and SMT III....after playing TMS for 8 hours....I'd rather play Persona or SMT.
