    My first drone was the Dji Spark, I have had it for a week now and I love it it is a fantastic first little drone. I would recommend getting the fly more combo is it comes with the remote controller and a spare battery, and lots more accessories. It is also a very budget friendly drone
    Personal rating: 8/10

    Just got a spark a week ago. Im in love with it. Was thinking about swapping it for the air. However this video has made me feel better about getting the lower cost spark. For me, it's more than enough and blows me away every time I fly it. Any one new like me I'd highly recommend getting the refresh + extended warranty from DJI. It's really eased my mind about flying further away and over water. Worst case it's brake and I can get a new one for about $40. Great video man, thanks for all the detailed info. Happy to finally be part of the drone crew !

    After following your advice I started with a Yuneec Breeze but switched to a Spark quickly... I love my Spark and I use it a lot for photography and some video. The 1080 is not a deal breaker for me especially since uploading to Instagram tends to compress the images or video so I'm very happy with it. I do recommend getting the portable charging station and a couple of extra batteries.

    My first was the inspire 1 v1. Second was the inspire pro. From there I went p3 pro, then p3 standard (just for shiggles), p4 pro for a really short time (just wasn't impressed) to the mavic pro.
    my favorite is still the Inspire Series. So stable and I've hit 80 mph on those things.

    Thank you so much for the info. My first was the Phantom 3 and I loved it, but I wanted a more portable unit. I've been going back and forth on these two. I'm using it for business and personal pics/videos. Cost is not really a factor in my decision, so I'm thinking the Air is the winner.

    Initially ordered the Spark until I seen this video and decided to go for the Air. All I can say is this is a fantastic piece of kit as an absolute beginner. Nice simulation mode on the DJI App to acquaint you with the controller. Many thanks dude.

  • @PrepareForLanding
    @PrepareForLanding 6 лет назад +20

    As both a Spark and Mavic Air owner, I totally agree with pretty much everything you said in this video. It totally depends on the use case as to which one is a better starter drone. I still think that the spark is an extremely strong competitor in this market space, and with the new price drop and included controller, it is an excellent value!

    • @TheEverydayDad
      @TheEverydayDad  6 лет назад +1

    • @danyancey
      @danyancey 4 года назад

      It's down to 329 at Walmart for the spark with the controller just saw it yesterday couldn't believe it. 2 more batteries on Amazon for 110. So 440 and you get a spark with 3 batteries and the controller. I'm really really really torn now. I'm not a big youtuber or anything. I like taking pictures, and just being able to fpv fly, and don't currently have a drone. The mavic air right now is 900 with 3 batteries and the fly more combo which obviously is a whole lot more flight time(especially when you compare the 2 with the 3 batteries combined) plus range. For pictures though it really doesn't seem to do much more as far as quality goes but I've always been the type of person that would rather spend a little more to get what I want/better. But man....... That's 2.5 times more than the spark. I'm sorta leaning more towards the spark now.

    I have a Phantom 3 Pro, a Mavic Pro, and a Spark. Hands down I recommend the Spark for a beginner! It is super easy to fly, and has enough stuff to do, to get started and keep them going for some time. Sometimes the better drones are just too overwhelming with too many functions and features and then people get frustrated. On my hometown swap on FB, you would not believe how many people are selling these better drones with comments like flown only once, flown only 2 times etc... They even go on to say things like don't have time, don't have time to learn this technology etc...

Once I got the Mavic, I was blown away by the stabilization on the very 1st take off, love the quality and now I’m just trying to figure out a good editing platform that doesn’t take a lot of effort.Still a beginner with a Mavic. Crashed my Spark into a creek right by my house and it sat there for a week while I waited for the water level to recede(couldn't see it under the muddy water).... I dried it all out and the next day it took a couple tries, but it is actually up and flying again!!! I'm still amazed. There is mud on it and the propellers, but it is still functioning for now... It did ruin a battery though. We'll see how long it lasts, but I really enjoy it a ton

    I just ordered a Certified Refurbished Mavic Pro as my first drone. I'm looking to get into landscape videography and photography. I chose the Mavic Pro primarily because of it's longer flight time and OcuSync support. It actually ended up being cheaper for me than a comparable Mavic Air.
    It was $649 refurbished and I added an additional battery for $89. A 10% student discount brought the price back down to $650 for me which was a great deal. I really wanted the Mavic Air for it's higher bitrate at 4k and smaller form-factor but it was just too expensive at $800-ish for a similar package with the same discount.

      If you are just getting into Drones, I'd recommend first learning to fly a quad. The Syma X5 is perfect for that. I'm not quite a senior citizen at 61 years old, but have been flying RC aircraft since everyday Dad was in diapers. I've owned several dozen drones as well as built a few. My favorite happens to be an FPV racing quad, second is my DJI Mavic Pro. I'm actually looking for something smaller. I'm leaning towards the Mavic Air as I like to do programmed Way point flights with Litchi app. I don't believe the Spark has that capability. Good luck.

    At the time, the Spark and the MP/P were the dji portable drones that I was eyeing/available. After a ton of research (thanks to you, Ken Heron, 51 Drones, Timothy Sunday and others), I purchased the Mavic Pro Platinum as my first drone for the following reasons :: 3 axis gimbal, flight time, low noise, and OcuSync. Besides, I had tons of Points (from traveling for work) to burn!!! HA!.. Between the two.. If your budget allows, go for the Air... If not, it seems that the Spark is a solid choice to start and possibly the beginnings of building a fleet.. If you just want to have just fun, get the Tello :-) No registration, FAA, and notifications, etc... Gig 'em!!!

I love the fact it's cheap for its capabilities plus since I'm new to drone flying, trashing a $500(can) drone would be better then trashing a $1000 or $1300 (Mavic Pro). And boy have I crashes mine a number of times, once where i lost the front LEDs and popped the upper casing. She still flew mind you and repairs where only $130.
    But with all my research into drone flying in my jurisdiction, the Spark met my needs legally as well.

    I bought a little snaptain toy drone with a 780p camera on it, just to practice droning. It is very very light and takes constant adjustments but good for practicing. Taking a trip to Iceland and want to try to get some shots with something portable. I twas pretty sure about the Air, but a few videos in now, seems like the Spark is more portable and a better choice. Thanks for the vid.

    First drone I bought was a Parrot Bepop 2, excellent drone for a beginner and someone who just wants to take fairly decent videos and pictures and have fun!

    I have both of these and a Yuneec Typhoon H. I would suggest the Spark for anyone that is first starting out. It is incredibly easy to fly and if it is something you shelve after a few weeks it's not as big an investment (got the flymore combo for under 350).
    The Air is cool and in sport mode is scary fast. The camera and gimbal can make a difference, plus it flies a ton better in wind than the Spark. 1080 video on both are great, but do yourself a favor and get filters. They make a world of difference.

    Great video. Excellent comparison. I'm just wondering if I dare spend the extra bucks for the Air, but like you say, the Spark isn't anything to really sneeze at for a good cheaper DJI drone. Marc.

    My first drone was a DJI Flamewheel f550 I got used off of Ebay. It had GPS, ATTI and No Help (as I like to call it) modes. Added a 3rd party gimbal, a GoPro and a 3rd party FPV system. Was awesome, could shoot 4k, could carry over 5lbs of weight (I rigged a cargo drop on it for a while). But you had to choose all your camera settings before takeoff, weather you wanted stills or video, and exposure, resolution etc. At the time large drones were the only way to get real stable flight.
    I upgraded to the Mavic Air. It's way more stable than the f550, I can adjust camera setting in flight, the lens has little distortion compared to the GoPro, it has sensors to try to safeguard against idiots like me that think "I wonder if I could...", it gets better flight time and it's so small and portable compared to the f550!
    But the f550 is a great drone, and learning on it made me a better pilot I think.

      Wow thats a legitimate sounding drone! So you had to start the filming on the gopro first and then take off and fly around?

    • @thespiritstudio
      @thespiritstudio 6 лет назад

      Yeah, it really was a pain, and if I wanted to take photos I had to set the GoPro to shoot a time lapse of still frames basically, and then fly to where I wanted the still to be taken from, wait a few seconds until I was sure it had snapped the picture, and then move on.
      For all it's faults though it was great because it was an an easy to modify design, just had to know how to solder and where to plug in wires. But my Mavic Air footage is so much nicer.

    My first drone is the promark shadow. Because it went on sale at Walmart. I wouldn't mind either one of these drones though. Kinda want something waterproof that floats. Ive lost one shadow in the river lol.

      Chuck Cimino the spark is not even close to the mavic air by any means the camera and sensors plus the range and not to say the spark doesn't come with the drone so mavic air wins by along shot

    I have to say that I jumped from Phantom 3 SE to Mavic Air. Before doing that, I make some research and was enchanted of what I heard about Mavic Air.
    Being realistic, I have to say, as this comment as well as many other reviews, Mavic Air is an outstanding drone for the price, quality, features and many more. Portability is incredible and in other videos, stability is highly superb compared with bigger drones.

    I initially ordered the Spark but after watching videos about the Mavic Air, I decided it was better suited for traveling because it folds up smaller. So I ordered it as well, with the intention of returning or selling the Spark. Long story short, I kept them both and haven’t had any regrets whatsoever. The Mavic Air IS my traveling drone but the Spark is so much fun to fly! So I make sure to give them equal flight time.
    A quick question, though....where do you get the letters that you mark your drones with? I’d like to do the same with mine.

    I've had a couple of "racing" drones and a couple of tiny cheap ones and my favorite tiny one is the Blade Inductrix. Once I got a Phantom 3 with GPS I was like woah... this is like the cadillac of the sky. Only complaint on my P3 is range really and it isn't real portable... Since I've gotten the Air I don't think I'll ever own a "big" one again unless I end up doing work that might require it.

    I have the Spark (Fly more combo) since it came out. Would get it now only with the controller and buy an extra battery on the side. The only thing that gets me to the Mavic Air would be the obstacle avoidance awesome system. Only wrecked the Spark once and the camera disconnected from the board and DJI did not repair for free (extra 300€) so, right now, I'm in almost a Mavic Air combo that would have saved me the trouble of sending it back to DJI (also came with a bad connection and had to send it do DJI for a second time...)
    But, overall it's a great gadget and gets me great footage!!
