My brain is fried from teaching/playing this 3 times last weekend alone over Baycon - it was the game of the con! Glad we agree on a 9/10 (rounding up as I don't believe in decimals :P)
This one looks SOOOO GOOD! I love assimetry and euros, and this sounds so thematic. Hope it comes to Brazil sooner than later. Thanks for the review guys ♥
Great review, and I'm glad you did this game since I think overall we have very similar taste in games. I have had this game in my shopping cart several times and then backed away and closed the browser. It looks absolutely amazing and I think the gameplay and the theme (although I agree theme is mostly unimportant) both seem incredible. However, even though I have a solid group of gamers to play with and they don't mind heavier games some of the time, I see this being incredibly difficult to get to the table. It's such a shame because the production quality looks amazing and I think it would be a lot of fun to play - it's just convincing other people to want to invest 3-5 hours for a game, let alone learning how to play. Thank you again for the amazing content!
Played this couple of weeks ago at Convention and this was a straight 9.5 for how much fun it is. It is the most thematic Euro that I've played and it is from the experience of making those decisions that it delivers! She that this is hard to get to the table and long and hence that 9.5...
Great review as usual ! I would so love to play but I know I wouldn't find a group for that (especially if it doesn't get translated into French... French people love to see a class war in everything political by the way!). I already own games that I cannot put to the table (Human Punishment: The Beginning for example), not sure I need one more on already cramped shelves. So I passed on the KS, but hopefully copies will be available on "secondary market" at some point!
I've felt this looked like a fantastic game from the first time I saw it on KS. Then I saw Paul Grogan's tutorial/playthrough and was convinced that it was in fact an amazing thematic euro and it's even a theme I find very interesting to explore because of how well it demonstrates the socio-economic push and pull in actual society. It shows that the different classes have different objectives not because one is bad and another is good but because they are both rational and looking out for what is actually best for their circumstances! BTW, "socialist" was correct for the direction the working class desires and "conservative" would be the direction the capitalist class wants. I love the fact that they represent this on the board as left for socialist and right for conservative/capitalist as that's the same way the political spectrum is identified as well. Anyway, as much as I want to own and play this, I didn't back it because I know I don't have the group to play it. Even so, I've been tempted to get it and play it with the solo expansion. It looks that good! Your review just continues to solidify the fact that it's a great game that I'll have to find a way to play at some point.
I can see the good game there but this is one I will not seek out due to the theme. Thanks for the review!

I really loved John company 2nd edition (havent played it yet). I watched a lot of heavy cardboard channel videos of it. Its so much fun. I was hyped for Hegemony, but found it less interesting. John company 2nd ed is reworked Cole Wehrle game. Rotating roles within of the East India Company between players are trying to steer company together, while retiring most of their leaders to the best castles paid by India colonial exploitation. I really hope i can get it to the table this year. If anyone likes the idea of Hegemony, check out the John company 2nd edition.
I like you guys, and I like your review style. But I often wish you would have a final thoughts section that was prepared ahead in time, that would sum up your opinion. I often feel you final thought drift away into more rambling.
Thank you for the feedback Mikkel! Always means a lot to hear what We can do better. I agree that it does that from time to time, but we do try to sum up our thoughts in the final thoughts segment. Maybe not always in the best way 😅
My final thought on the game is I have no idea why people like it, I tried it at the game convention... and was one of the dullest experiences I ever had gaming ... I played State and it was so boring ... I had little control over anything ... for example, I can place buildings and factories ... but unless other people decide to send workers there these buildings just sits empty and useless ... and that's exactly what happened through the entire game ... the game is not for me! I want to play a game I do not depend on others an particularly not on my opponents to do well!
@@Berndr Not every game is meant for everyone and that is perfectly ok.... But questioning people's judgement on why they like b'cos you personally didn't enjoy.... Not sure about that
@@madhujith WOW passively being rude in the exact same way you are accusing me of ... I never once question anyone's judgment I gave my personal objective view based on the gaming experience I had ... and you are right not every game is for everyone and I would rather not hype the game I think is boring as hell ....Or are we not allowed anymore to express our personal experience and views???? have a nice day
There exists a fine line between games and activities... Tim's Tipping Point Theory: Effort+Time+Playgroup > 100% = Pick up book(s) on subject matter instead. Lacerda's are around 95%. I'm now reading books on Socio Economics instead of playing Hegemony, but thanks for that. 🙂
I didn't like it... I find the theme to be a bit off actually. I guess I find combining classes together as a single ideology is just ridiculous and doesn't reflect reality. It would make more sense to combine by ideology with a multitude of classes inside. As for the game itself I felt like it mostly plays itself. It's both too complicated and too simple. Most of your decisions feel obvious when you know what your goal is... which might take longer than it should due to asymmetry. Then it becomes a game of figuring out what others want and trying to not let that happen. But there isn't enough room in the game to allow you the freedom to do anything interesting. You just do what the cards in your class tell you to do and vote the way the game tells you to. That is a slight oversimplification, but it isn't far off.

As an accountant (you, not me) the not believing in decimals is a pretty funny statement.
@@TheDarktater Well financial statements and even tax comps will still round up 😜
