2 yrs ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and right after that covid. 2 mos before the cancer diagnosis, my gallbladder burst. I thought it was God telling me to get my affairs in order, so I began writing and choosing music for when my day came. I love this song. It makes me cry and always has. It makes me look at every aspect of my life. My life has been hard. I had suffered a lot of loss at a very young age, battled addiction, and was in an abusive family and marriage. However, I've always prevailed because of who I am. I love hard and pray often. I am now a cancer survivor and a survor of many other things. Music has gotten me thru life, and this song just says so much about who I really am. This was the song I chose, as my farewell to life as I knew it. Love life, Ifs truly a precious gift. ❤

I was a Senior in High School when I first heard this song and really liked the musical arrangement, the addition of strings, violins and organ. But it wasn't until I returned home from Nam that I truly grasped and understood the message there. I'm in my late 70's now, and as I look back to my younger days...I really didn't know life at all.

Going through the same thing but yesterday my actually had a breakthrough moment and as best she can (dealing with strong case of dementia) start trying to convey about her funeral. I asked her if she wanted songs from her lifetime and not solely religous songs and she said yes. So I remember this song back listening to iit while mom was busy around the house nearby. She sat my by the stereo because it kept me occupied. Her major stroke was 16 years ago and I thought I was losing her (medical staff was prepariing for her death) and I asked her to come back and later she said she heard me. It been me and my mom against the world when I first came in, and nothing better than her. I had other family members that help out raising me but nothing like your mom. Sometimes I get tired, but I quickly come to the realization once she gone that it no more good times or bad times. I don't want to let her go either. So I understand.

Like Barbra Streisand, she learned to preserve the very BEST of her voice, long past her prime recording years. Drugs, alcohol and cigarette smoke affect professional singers in different ways, but Judy's remains as fresh and untouched as it was in 1961. If this is what Heaven sounds like, then those of us on Earth have truly seen the best of both sides now. This is magnificent.

At my present age of 72, I have "looked at life" from many, many angles. What's really amazing is how fast life has come and gone. Many people persuaded me to do "this and that", and I listened to them, but they didn't know any better, either. Today, I have true peace...because I listen only to myself, even though I consider other's opinion too. Stop living someone else's dreams and start living your own. George Eliot said..."It's never too late to become what you might have been".

    Lyrics
Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
    And feathered canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
    It's cloud's illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
    When every fairytale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughin' when you go
And if you care don't let them know
    Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
    It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say, "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well, something's lost but something's gained
    In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
    It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

The Judy Collins version of the song "Both Sides Now" is to me "a priceless musical work of art" in all respects! Every word of the lyrics of the song itself have set up positive, encouraging standards in my own personal life as well. I myself have truly seen and experienced "Both Sides Now" in my life and when I first heard this marvelous rendition of the song by Judy Collins back in 1975 it vividly brought back the very highs & lows of my 1 year U.S. ARMY Tour of Duty in Vietnam back in the 60's. Hearing Ms. Collins sing "Both Sides Now" back then ( and I still listen to her version now from time to time ) impacted my life in positive ways that have carried me through all these Post-Vietnam years now. So, thank you so much Judy Collins for singing this particular song and impacting my life in so many positive ways hearing it. May God Bless!

I'm an old man now. This song I remember stopping what I was doing ( if possible ) to listen to this. It makes me very lonely to remember those times when I was young, had many good friends and good times. Felt I had the world in my hands, turned out I didn't.

I am Afro American woman but Joni & Judy are my sisters too. I have listened and adorn theirs music concerts and shows just like any other die hard fan would, and i do know this song belongs to the most incredible poet & lyricist Ms. Joni Mitchell but this Judy Collins version and cover of this song has stuck with me down through the years its like I listen to Joni&Judy I love both these two incredible women.

Today I attended the memorial for one of my dearest friends who last month passed away from cancer at age 53. They played a recording of her singing this song a capella, sounding so much like Judy Collins. I had to come here and listen to it again. Now I will always think of my friend when I hear this lovely song. ❤️

When I think of the words, the messages in this beautiful, “true” melody, I laugh at how old I am, and “know” that I really don’t know life at all!

There was some little wall plaque that said something like 'I wish my children would get jobs, leave home and survive life while they still know everything'. It's true, the older we get, the less we know. I always wondered why adults sounded less full of themselves, but youth and the endless possibilities the world holds are slowly eased away from you in plain sight. But each age has its compensations, and I like being 64, even if my body doesn't.
