I had the privilege of performing this with Judy as the conductor of the orchestra behind her. She was 84 years young. It was pure joy. God bless Judy.
Nobody can sing this song like Judy Collins. She sounds the same as she did 50 years ago! She has aged very gracefully... Thank you so much for your years, Judy this is still beautiful and it brings tears to these eyes.
My goodness. People usually lose that power or presence as they age, but this is just absolutely amazing. She has only gotten more amazing as time has gone by.
I used to listen to this with my father when I was 5. That was 45 years ago. He's gone but I still have the memory and the LP vinyl record. It still sounds just as good on my turn table with the diamond studio stylus. When I play it I can return to that moment 45 years ago. Thank you for your timeless gift to all of us.
Judy Collins was born in Seattle, Washington on May 1st, 1939. She is a Grammy Award-winning American singer and songwriter with a career spanning over 60 years. She is known for her eclectic tastes in the material she records (which has included folk music, show tunes, pop music, rock and roll and standards) for her social activism, and for the clarity of her voice. Collins has released 28 studio albums, 4 live albums, numerous compilation albums and 4 holiday albums. Today, May 1st, 2021, she is celebrating her 82nd birthday. UPDATE: She is now 83 (May 1st, 2022). Now 84 (May 1st, 2023)
Face of an angel, voice of one too. In this dying world as the great tribulation draws near I'm so glad I grew up when the world was beautiful and singers like Judy were there.
I've had tickets for her for the last 3 years. (hurricane canceled it last year), and last Saturday night I checked off another thing on my "Bucket List" and saw her Iin Lenox Mass. (Tangelwood). She's 83. with a new very short haircut, and just miraculous performance.
If amethysts could sing - what an amazing observation. She definately makes this song a living entity. I love Streisands cover, but this is even more eclectic. A magical performance.
That's priceless! Thanks, and may I quote you? There's only Julie Covington comes close. As a very lapsed Catholic who doesn't know what to do any more I find it strange and ironic that I am drawn to influence from two marvelous persons whose initials are JC.
I took my mom to see Judy Collins perform when she came to our city. Her performance of this song was nearly identical to this video. At her age to still have that voice is basically unheard of. She's still as good as she ever was. They'll never be another one like her.
Joan Baez is still the best along with Dolly Parton, not to forget Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris. I loved Judy Collins but when she became older her voice changed dramatically and she had a hard time keeping tune. So be careful who you think is the best. The others I mentioned could sing in so many different times and pitches. I was disappointed when Ms. Collins lost her beautiful tone and key when singing. Play another song when she is eve
Wow... Your cousin still has a beautiful voice and just as striking in looks... A beautiful lady, and we all know that beauty is way more than skin deep... I read somewhere that her voice and songs gave solace to soldiers in the meat grinder that was Viet Nam... I was too young for that, but I did serve.
Do you know what orchestra this is? The piano player looks familiar and I've seen him around before but some of those orchestra players look like they're young enough to be college students
This was one of my mom's favorite songs and favorite singers she passed away in 2017 my 28-year-old son Jeremiah passed away in 2021 from alcoholism at the age of 28 my 40-year-old daughter is having a major struggle right now with alcohol please pray for us thank you and thank you Judy❤😇🐸🙏🙏🙏❤
Each time I hear this, I shed a tear or two. Her voice is so angelic. To know the meaning is even more heart breaking. Love you Judy and thank you for years and years of all your beautiful music.

I was so thrilled to see Judy Collins who I had admired for over 40 years, when she appeared on stage in Hobart Tasmania Australia. We were honoured with her presence in a relatively remote part of the world, probably because of her generosity , and we were excited to see her at all , but more so because she sang with solo piano and accompanied herself on guitar most of the time. Not only was her voice as beautiful as ever, but we were subject to a rare , and for us , a remarkably overwhelmingly emotional experience of hearing several on the songs sung “ a capella” , I.e. solo voice. How rare for any singer to perform without accompaniment let alone at her age. We felt very honoured.
for years I loved the song, but had no idea really what is was about---then one night I studied the song...and wow- it is so complex and sad. Learn the story if you have not.

Judy Collins has been my favorite female vocalist since 1968. She is an amazing artist with extraordinary skill , enormous talent and delightful grace . We are about the same age , and it amazes me that she still performs at such a high level ; her lovely voice is still totally intact . And her ease and Grace in performing hasn’t lost a step . Lovely Judy ( beautiful blue eyes ) inspires me to have vitality and vibrancy in my own way in my life . I am so grateful for this outstanding person . May she continue to enchant us with her God-given talent . Thank you , Judy . ❤️

I've loved her choice of songs and angelic voice since I first heard her sing this on the radio way back then. I was a teen then, and was surprised her Birthday was the same as mine, May 1. Would dance and exercise to her songs for years back then, then lost touch with her and her songs. Wasn't until I was like 50 that I stumbled upon her again. Still has the voice of an angel, that's for sure.

Judy is so wonderful! :)
Sure, only Judy can sing this song like Judy. But Streisand's version, TO ME, is even more moving.
Tears still streaming after 50 years.

When I heard this played in a school dance I thought it was beautiful 50 years ago this June maybe
My goodness. People usually lose that power or presence as they age, but this is just absolutely amazing. She has only gotten more amazing as time has gone by.
my thoughts exactly. she adds the experience of time - phrases it perfectly and doesn't have anything to prove. her voice has aged like fine wine
I read that she has kept taking voice lessons and has larger range now then when she was younger!!!
Dear Sir:
Smoke&Mirrors….
But she is a Star... do you forget??
Just like old wine: "maturity" enhances the overall quality... we agree with your every word!
Like listening to angels singing
Heaven on earth.
this is a song made for the brave !
This lady is in a class all by herself. The Angels in Heaven take lessons from her. 🙏❤👼

She really took care of her voice over the years. She still sounds beautiful.
Taking care of your voice, remembering vocal technique---The DEAL.
Even better, just listened to a recording when she was much younger. That was good but this is great.🎉
This is the ONLY person who should be allowed to sing this song - absolutely beautiful.... ❤❤
Agree 100%. Heard her twice recently, but didn't do this one sorry to say. She chopped her hair off too. looking great also.
A wonderful rendition by a beautiful lady.
My late wife’s favourite! Always found the album Judith on the turntable when I got home. Miss you so much.

Cor Anglais, similar to but deeper in pitch than the oboe.
@@keeshond8 thank you, I just discovered it was the EH (English Horn)
Gorgeous and stirring of deep emotions.

Actually it was a relative of the oboe, the English Horn.
Her voice hasn't aged, if anything it is richer and more beautiful.
So true! The production quality and halo effect are so heart felt and sincere as clear as her lovely voice! 🎉
What an exquisite performance from Judy. Her voice has certainly not suffered from decades of performing. Beautiful!

I agree. Joan Baez, from the same era, still performs, but just sounds so much older... no clear voice anymore, when compared to Judy
Judith Durham held it together just as well, just not for quite as long.
How very true. 🎶🎶
Where did you goto see her, I when to her Nottingham concert. Love it x

Such a sustained pure voice. Never needs to embellish to show off her range. Always peaceful.
