    Learning how to play the guitar in the age of the internet isn’t easy. You’re faced with an endless barrage of information with no way to know what you should be spending your time on. In this video, I want to show you the easiest way to navigate the fretboard. If you’re a complete beginner, this is a particularly great way to start getting a grasp of the notes on the guitar. We’ll cover the natural musical alphabet, sharps & flats, the guitar string names, and make use of something called “octave centers” to locate every single note without worrying about total guitar fretboard memorization.
    There’s a lot to digest here, so don’t be afraid to pause the video and take some extra time if you need it. Music theory for guitar doesn't have to be scary! If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below.

      Not really ,
      Not to shit on him, he did a good job but i have a problem when people use the word GENIUS when it's not deserved
      this isn't genius , this is basic guitar theory and the important basics,
      you don't go up to your math teacher after she teaches you 2+2 and you say
      wow, you are honestly a genius teacher
      No... you don't do that
      he is well spoken, sure but not a genius (at least i can't judge it by this content)

      @Play Guitar The Right Way
      No i don't think it's a fake comment and i understand that i've been playing a long time, some, 35 odd years,
      i think the comment is genuine and comes from a good place, a place of appreciation
      but IT'S AN INACCURATE COMMENT
      Look, i'm an Engineer by trade, ok I.T. Electrical and Electronics
      Now, the term engineer gets thrown around a lot and after a while it doesn't mean much and it's rather insulting to real engineers
      Now.. i myself do not see myself as a genius, although i get called a genius quite a lot
      and now , let's ask why that happens
      i may go to a clients house and just re terminate a connection (a Very simple thing in my line of work) and the person see's me as a genius
      on the guitar, i might do some sort of solo Around Am Pentatonic (which we all know is stock and relatively simple)
      but to those that don't know they see this as GENIUS
      it's not Genius,
      i'm not shitting on their comment, i know it's genuine and they mean well
      i'm not shitting on the creator of the video
      i'm just correcting the comment so they understand he is not on a genius level for doing this.... this is basic stuff and i don't think he takes it offensively because he would also know it's basic stuff
      that's all it is

    • @mbudman5285
      @mbudman5285 Год назад +5

      This isn't a fake comment, and I didn't say he was a genius, he's a genius teacher, I struggle to learn some things and he made it very easy to understand and to learn is that not a great teacher?

    • @martinkuliza
      @martinkuliza Год назад

      @@mbudman5285
      ok, firstly , i didn't say it was a fake comment THAT WAS THE OTHER GUY
      you did say he was a genius , Look
      "Honestly, you're a genius teacher."
      see........... RIGHT HERE LOL
      Genius and Genius teacher is the same thing, it's still a form of genius
      as for this
      " I struggle to learn some things and he made it very easy to understand and to learn is that not a great teacher?"
      MATE... allow me to use profanity so that you understand me PERFECTLY
      i absolutely fucking understanding you , ok
      When i was younger i also struggled to learn shit, SO .. I GET IT
      He is a good teacher YES
      Genius teacher.... NO
      TO YOU, However.... he is
      and i understand that as well
      although again, just be clear I didn't say your comment was fake, that was the other guy.
      i was the one that said it WASN'T fake
      so just understand this....
      when you actually meet a GENIUS TEACHER it won't be like this guy,
      but for now.... sure, Learn from him , he's a good teacher

    I can't believe how much sense your videos are making!
    I have been playing on and off for about 10 years. I have gotten frustrated. Stopped playing saying "maybe it is just not for me." Listen to some songs, get inspired, pick up and play for a week or 2, then just give up because I just couldn't seem to get it, and life just doesn't really give me enough breaks to play and practice.
    Your videos dropped into my feed sometime yesterday and you use John Mayer for teaching. THIS is extremely motivating to me. Mayer he is one of my aspirations with my guitar journey. If I can ever play at least one of his songs from start to finish in one sitting, I will feel like I have accomplished something. Thank you, good sir. Please keep teaching us the way you do!

    Everybody knows that the alphabet starts with the letter A and so does the musical alphabet, but every music teacher starts the musical alphabet with the letter C because that is the start of the Major scale and we don't have to confuse beginners with sharps and flats but you would be surprised at how nobody explains it like that, and so beginners ar left wondering why you would start an alphabet with the letter C and not A. I am glad that you explained it. What prompted my thought is I tryed to apply your 221-2221 phone number to your abcdefg and found it didn't work unless you stared with the letter C first...cdefgab. Thank you so much it really was an ah ha moment for me.

    Thx a ton for your tutorial. I'm a beginner, so often times get stuck with theory. My question is: When I tried to apply the same C# concept on the C# on the 4th fret (where it is), I could not find the C#, when applying the (half-step) thing on the bottom string, where if it workd, the C# would happen to be in the B string, just like in the higher strings. I hope my question isn't confusing. If it is, pls lemme know & I'll try to explain again. I would really appreciate your help on this one. Thanks

    Hey Andrew, how do you know what chords are in a particular scale. Like the C major how would you know?
