In this guitar lesson, I'll be taking a deeper dive into the guitar chord roadmaps. We'll start off by looking at the four basic bar chord shapes you'll need to know to utilize these roadmaps, and then go over a little bit of basic guitar music theory so that we know how to figure out the chords in a key. From there, we'll look at our two different chord roadmaps. One rooted on the low E string, and the other rooted on the A string. With the knowledge of both of these roadmaps, you'll be able to easily play all the chords in any key without worrying about learning any new shapes.
We'll even touch on using the number system with non-diatonic chords, as well as a method for using the number system with open chords instead of bar chords. It's a lot, so be sure to use the chapter markers to jump around. Thanks for watching, and let me know in the comments if you have any questions!

After 30-plus years of playing, tinkering, and messing around with guitar, this video made it all click. The fretboard has been unlocked for me. I have watched countless videos, studied theory, and run through hundreds of tabs. For the first time, I know what I am doing and it all makes sense. Thank you, Andrew, you have changed my guitar-playing life. I just got done playing several songs by ear using your teaching and it worked. The future has never looked brighter and my dreams of playing live just for fun in local bars with others is no longer just a pipe dream. Here's to your success and knowing you are well on your way to millions of subs.

to echo a comment posted earlier - "how did I not see that before?" :) i knew the numbers of chords and how they related to maj/minor but it had never twigged that they can be played from the first 6 notes of the E string major scale. I thought you had to be able to calculate the note names from the root each time..... when in fact it's just another guitar shape. this is why these lessons are so good, just fitting together the pieces of the jigsaw that have been missing in my head for 20 years!
