So glad I found this video ❤.. im just two years through my guitar journey ... It's really beginner freindly and works wonders.. Thank you so muchh!! 🤗
Man, you are the best. I started playing guitar when I was 17, and now I'm 65, and I love watching your videos because there is still more to learn. So thank you so so much. You are a huge help.
Been playing guitar for decades and ashemed to say I've avoided trying to learn lead - mainly because ive been intimidated by the fretboard and music theory - even though i have a lot of chords in my arsenal. Ive watched a lot of lead guitar tutorials but i find the tutor assumes I'm at a higher level than i actually am. This tutorial is probably the only one I've found that truly goes back to first principles. They say that "Teaching is more than telling and learning is more than listening." So thanks for this resource, Amdrew. You've made the process accessable, understandable, doable and enjoyable. And people always invest time in what they enjoy. I can think of no bigger compliment, mate. Thanks again.
just wanted to say that you are the best guitar teacher on youtube. You're videos are REALLY clear and well constructed. You're video on fiding any song by ear really open my mind on the relationship beetween minor and major. You're the best keep it up
Thank you, Andrew! By far the very best lesson I’ve watched on improvising guitar solos. You have an incredible way of teaching and explaining in a clear, straightforward way. I’ve learned so much from your channel!
Just found your channel, Andrew! Your step-by-step approach is perfect for us "late beginners". Keep up the good work ... looking forward to exploring more.
I’m relative new at Guitar and I’ve been playing that shape for a while without actually knowing what I was playing, it just sounded ok but the way you explain everything is just amazing, your method of explaining everything is fantastic, thank you 🎸.
Andrew, thanks so much for clearing up the misconception about not having to change scales with chord changes. I was confused about that for a long time. Love your videos, thanks so much for making them! They are really helping me to improve and further enjoy making music.
😢 WOW this lesson was awesome. I never done a solo so this video is for me. I will pick up my electric guitar 🎸 once again. I have put it to the side and only been practicing the acoustic guitar. Thank you
Hi Andrew. I am a beginner and I play lead guitar for my youth band and working towards playing in the big band at church. I am also working on my own songs aswel
Hey Andrew, found your channel through an older video "Improvising Guitar Solos For Complete Beginners" on the GuitarReo channel. Just wanted to say that your videos, advice and teachings have been so incredibly helpful to a beginner guitar player like myself. Thank you so much for the videos that you do and I will be continually watching them as I progress in this wonderful guitar journey! Cheers from Singapore!
Great Job Andrew. Thanks for this revision it incorporates all the great experience you've gained creating content and really refined this key building block of your program. Looks like another late night playing my guitar.
thanks for this lesson, so appreciated !! from my part I learn all the intervals from the scale and I know if I play third major, fperfect fourth and so on it works better for my composition! But i imagine it is different for each person :)
commenting to help engagement. this content is amazing! you are so clear and concise with your instruction. if i ever could get an in person lesson, i would! :)
Thank you for uploading these videos! I've definitely seen progress in my beginner improvisation with a few of these lessons from you :D Thank you for your work :D
It’s my favorite video man! The roadmap helped me a lot man but after find out the key for the song I’m still struggling with the chord progression. Maybe practicing is the only answer🫤
@@Hudson.. It really does come with practice! It's best to start with simple songs. Indie, pop, singer-songwriter genres. Those ones always tend to use basic, recognizable progressions. From there, you can move into more challenging music.
Glad you like them! I don't have a video that covers ALL the frets yet. It's something I can definitely do though. This video does extend this shape into two more shapes however: ruclips.net/video/pP4Ykae_Z0M/видео.html
hey man, great job answering bunches of my questions but one, in particular, can you clarify why you are using the D shape A chord in the key of E major instead of the E major is it because of the positioning of the excise you are doing? Just really curious trying to follow as close as I can to understand so far so good up to that point that's where you lost me and Thanks
Good to know a little theory here since the diagram is pentatonic but the video is diatonic and it is not clear in the diagram which are the low and high ends.
Is keeping track of the chord changes 100% of the time a must? I’m guessing it is and at any any moment in the song or track you should be able to say the chord that is playing. I’ll be using use your steps to improve.. Thanks so much..
Not necessarily. If you can do it, it'll help. But even I lose track from time to time. As long as what you're playing is diatonic (exists naturally) inside the key, then any note from that scale will fit over any diatonic chord. Best case scenario, you track every chord, but don't let it stop you from just forgetting it and trying out different things with the scale. It'll still come out sounding great! :)
@Andrew Clarke OK if you are making one on melodic soloing could you please let me know ...........just through a reply on this please..............thank you
I'd suggest learning the small major scale shape I show in Section 1 of this lesson. From there, the minor pentatonic is best. If you just follow this video as a guide, you'll be on the right track :)
@@andrewclarkeguitar Thanks so much! And if I may follow up: do we try to aim for two-note intervals that are major 3rds (as opposed to major 2nds), or perfect 4ths or 5ths?
@@andrewclarkeguitar the stuff you teach and your style of teaching are spot on in your youtube videos. I know it's not too helpful but just something that organizes and simplifies everything with practical exercises that keep it fun would be great
You can apply all the concepts from this video to your own songs. As long as you know the key of the song you're playing, you can use the notes from the scales I show here to come up with your own solos.
These lessons are much appreciated. One suggestion for improvement: there's a lot of "talk" and not a lot of "music" in these videos. I find it especially troubling to the brain, due to the compression of the audio that's been done on these videos - it feels like a ton of speech coming at you and it does sound quite unnatural to the brain.
So glad I found this video ❤.. im just two years through my guitar journey ... It's really beginner freindly and works wonders..

You can play freely OR hit chord tones. It's totally up to you and your creative choice. I think a mix is usually best.

As a beginner which scale to learn first on the guitar ?
I'd suggest learning the small major scale shape I show in Section 1 of this lesson. From there, the minor pentatonic is best. If you just follow this video as a guide, you'll be on the right track :)
Thanks for nice lesson! For double stops, 18:16, do we make sure that both notes are in the key’s scale?
No problem! Yes. Both notes would always need to come from the same key/scale.
