This is probably the most intuitive note layout I've ever seen. I learned something today and I've been playing guitar off and on for 35 years. Cheers!

As someone who has 0 guitar theory knowledge this pattern started appearing in my head like a month ago after i had struggle with some finger placement for chords. I have noticed same notes were appearing on other strings so i am able to play them differently. And now here we are on this video making everything logical.

Hi Ricky. Great video. I took it one step further. I learned where the A-BC chunks were and then I randomly plucked a string and looking at the fretboard found A-BC. My next step was to randomly pluck a string without looking at the fretboard and finding A-BC. I learned to recognize the sound of each open string and found A-BC without looking at the fretboard. I will proceed the EF-G next.

Every now and then i find something on you tube that explains something so well, so seemingly simply, that you can't help but grow from the experience of watching it. This is such a video.
I feel slightly daft that i've never fully grasped this theory side of guitar playing. And, voila, along comes Ricky and shines a light so bright onto the subject matter that i now see it in an absorbable way.
    Thank you Ricky. Great job.

Wow! Since starting with my first guitar nearly eighteen years ago I have watched DOZENS of tutorials and chords /tabs diagrams which only made me more confused, beginning with ponderous"old-school" music-lesson manuals teaching one note at a time and "modes" which to this day, are STILL Greek to me. But THIS is FAR and AWAY the most useful eye-opening revelation of basic fretboard setup ever seen. A big THANK YOU and WHERE do I sign?

Sometimes when I watch stuff like this trying to learn something, it turns out I already do what’s being taught only I have my own way of doing it. While trying to pick up what’s in the video I get frustrated, but then realize, hey I actually already know this. The first lesson my old man gave me was power chords on the bottom strings and the root notes that coincide. Just from that I was able to learn the notes.
