    The ideas that get 10k I wish would still get instructions made. Even if you then had to spend 100 points to download the instructions. So many great sets that I could just bricklink buy if I knew how to build them. I think many of these they just didnt get made is due to piece count. Would someone spend 250$ for a 3000 piece build of the serpent in water build? Nice set, but there were a lot of little pieces to drive the price up.

    The fact that Lego seems to categorically ignore all Steampunk ideas is one of the main reasons why i also buy sets from others. As a huge steampunk fan it is sad that Lego seems to have the opinion that steampunk is not lucrative enough for them to invest in

    Honestly, i can give reasons why most of those would not be approved.
    airship: Probably the balloon part is too fragile, while they also wont approve anything without an interior.
    Skyship: same latter reason probably.
    Nautilus: actually i love the story, but that there is a boring design.
    Dracula castle: Intreresting front design, but not enough interior and just a really sad back end and interior.
    Sea serpent: Again, not saying it is a bad design per se, since i wished i could come up with something like that, but no interiors and kinda boring looking.
    Steampunk explorers: actually, the only thing i can thing about is to much variation in pieces, but they should really consider that one.
    Log flume: does it actually work without damaging builds and such ?
    Loop coaster: Sorry to say, but even those loop coasters they did bring out don't actually sell well at all.
    Gremlins: Actually, sounds like a great idea.
    Wallace: actually not bad. Also i actually think they would work in minifigure form if the faces are 3D like The Simpsons minifigures.
    Pratchett: sorry, too niece indeed.
    The Hobbit: Actually, considering what lego is doing now, i think it is only a matter of a few years before something like that is made.
    Jumanji: Even though i don't see any great design there, i think it would work.
    A Brick build Genie....well, we have a mlinifigure, be happy if we ever get a brickhead too.

      Lego doesn’t have a major flaw. They design a product to meet certain specifications, marketability, cost to produce, playability, transport etc. These are great models but they won’t bring Lego a profit which is what it needs to continue to exist.

    Lego Ideas is flawed. To get peoples interest you have to build big or use licensed builds. To get approved the build has to be small enough to meet the production cost. It can’t be both. That is why large sets don’t get made and small sets don’t get enough support for a chance. The non licensed sets that have been made do not sell well.

    Great Segment, loved most of the ideas especially the "Steampunk Ones", & Sherlock set, damn! That's good! As for the best, for me anyway, some have been missed, and some have yet to be made?
    For me anyway, was the 2002 technic time machine was it, followed by Lost in Space, (you talk about a missed opportunity?) Then there is "Thunderbirds", okay so I'm an older than I'd like to admit?
    But sets based on this series would have had everything, Lego would have wanted.
    Moving on, "Red Dwarf", "What we do in the Shadows", and anything that put "Young Frankenstein" into a set, and the Addams family. Sometimes I really have to wonder if Lego has the right creative mind to handle the ideas?
    Doctor Who for example, (1 lousy set!), when we got Lego space coming out of everywhere?
    I know, there are plenty of great ideas out there and it must be very disheartening when Lego only picks one, but people do pay attention. As for what I'm waiting on, is a HG Wells time travel set, done right, with various time periods, and with Morlocks at the end.

    • @Stud-Lord
      @Stud-Lord  2 месяца назад

      All good picks. I had to be selective or else the video would have been way too long. But yeah Addams family is a must for me now they’ve done/doing Wednesday. Red Dwarves was hilarious but anyone younger won’t know it. And Doctor Who would be fun although the bricks might all get exterminated. Time Machine and morlocks would be be great fun

  • @xylopiano3

    Genuine question: What's to stop me from asking the creators of these sets for the LEGO Digital Designer files (or whichever program they used) and buying all the pieces from a secondhand seller? I have experience with Digital Designer, so if I had the file and all the parts, I'm pretty sure I could build these sets without an instruction book.

    • @Stud-Lord
      @Stud-Lord  28 дней назад +2

      They're not allowed under Lego's t&cs. but I think Lego should let them sell them directly via Ideas if it gets rejected. Lego could still get a cut, the designers get some and recognition, and consumers get some extra cool builds

    • @xylopiano3
      @xylopiano3 26 дней назад

      @@Stud-Lord Thanks for explaining! Now that I think about it, it does make sense. Since these creators are signing over their designs to be LEGO's intellectual property, it makes sense that LEGO wouldn't want people using secondhand sellers in order to build the designs. But you're right, there should definitely be a legal way for people to sell their rejected Ideas.
      EDIT: Oh yeah, and another problem is that some Ideas sets use original pieces, or pieces with original prints. If LEGO doesn't approve the sets, then who's going to manufacture those parts? You'd have to find a way to recreate them yourself, or find something that looks close enough.

    I know why none of these got built, and it only takes understanding what LEGO is about. Too many of these feel like advanced MOC builds, and just have too many details and unnecessary part usage. A LEGO version of these, like the Dracula house wouldn't have a back, the Serpent scene wouldn't have an ocean/base like that. The Sherlock house wouldn't have been an enclosed building, and instead better suited as a room diorama scene. LEGO Creator uses are just voting for things based on their niche interests or wishes for the City builds, but the average consumer will never want that, and that's what LEGO is prioritising. LEGO won't make a steampunk airship because who will buy it? You would, but like really, it's not a popular idea. I mean, a turtle with an earth on its back? Are these LEGO creator voters even trying? Who wants that? I know I don't, and you do - but when I say "who wants that", think of, the mass general buyer, who of those actually wants that? The Hobbit hole is another classic MOC victim where there's just too much pointless part usage for a consumer. A product like that with all the random grass elements would just double the price when it doesn't need to. Look at the Rivendell set as an example - it's going to be expensive, but the Ring scene that can be extracted would make a perfect affordable product diorama option.
