I have been teaching pure fly fishing for over 3 decades and produced many fishing guide also.
FYI, my videos contain raw footages only thus NO BS talk and Fake Actions.
Many Tubers hide the landing scene but show only the releasing part because they were snagging trout for the Social Media fame therefore many of the fish die not long after due to the stress coming into the net side or backward. Their videos have subtle background scene changes, don't show the fish head is coming into the net or show where the fly is hooked...
We must do "One Barbless Fly Only on all Catch and Release Water" to make them difficult to snag trout often to save the fishery!
Oh yeah, you will be excited as I can when hook a trout like this, too!
Note, there are many videos of big trout on youtube but none are like mine, this trout inhaled my YOJ fly, no foul hooking hence caught and released safe. Never took the fish to the bank and lay down to measure like other people do, here's the link to see how big this trout was: • World record monster b...
• Possible Record Brown ...
I was using AKSS fly and landed a couple under 20 inchers before this one right away. This big one, Big Bertha, bumped once and followed in the AKSS fly but never inhale it. The river condition was bit turbid so difficult to sight fishing but I saw the silhouette of BB where I casting to and caught it on the second cast. BTW, someone snagged this one and killed her which happens a lot on the quality water, after a month or so later. Heard that someone had a video of this trout fought for 25 min to bring her in, if you come across it please send me the link. Mine only took 5 min to land because the trout inhaled the fly in the mouth. Used 5X tippet, One Barbless Yong OJ fly and Walmart Rod.
No one can ever duplicate what I did!!!
This my instruction video which was done 3 decades ago on VHS format and sold out but free (4 parts) to watch now, enjoy!

Incredible specimen. Awesome catch!! The current NM State record for a Brown is 20 pounds, 4.ounces. You annihilated it!! No one deserves that fish more than you. What a class act, you released it unscathed, never even considered putting the fish in jeopardy by taking it to a weight station, just to claim an official record. You're the Grand Master...And the setup you used to catch it, is absolutely astounding. So very proud of you.
Thanks!
Great fishing.
Your videos helped convince me two years ago to go to one fly rigs. Now I spend a lot more time fishing and less time untangling 2 fly rigs. Presentation is easier only managing one fly and I catch more fish.
When I met you a couple weeks ago at the TH parking lot it was after a week of fishing. Most were caught on the Yong flasher and OJ.
Thanks for your contributions to the fly fishing community.
Thanks, glad I helped you a little. I have over 300 videos on my channel and some are very educational.
Your respect for the fish is awesome! Wish more people were like you. You’re an inspiration to all.
Thank you, that is the way my parents raised me, respect others.
Wish more caring people like you fly fishing!!!
That surely is an outstanding fish. Congrats on catching it. No one can question your experience, skills, and the efficacy of your flies. However, you can definitely rub some people the wrong way ( not just other guides ), which is too bad.
Hey Mr. Kim, I really enjoyed watching helping u bring in some fish today. I look forward to us fishing together. Cheers Doctor David / Nalza
This is an amazing fish 👀👀👀
Dulce 🤝👍
Thanks! It was nice to meeting you two. I'm glad that you saw me what I can do , some people don't believe my words about fishing thus usually carry an action cam to record but only had a few min yesterday so didn't bother to bring it. Hope to see you on the San Juan.
“There’s always a bigger fish..” qui gon Jin.. but nice catch man I’m an avid fly fisherman in Colorado and my PB brown was a 26 inch stud out of a retention pond on a crawfish crankbait lipped from REBEL 🎣 I live in golden, CO but I caught that brown at a private pond in Saratoga Wy.. great content bro hopefully I could float the San Juan someday I just floated the wind river in Wyoming about 3 months ago
I used to live in Arvada that's where I developed my main 13 pattern flies 4 decades ago and still catching tons of trout everywhere I go. Check out North Platter River fishing videos, here's one of them from last May: ruclips.net/video/nufziHFTOfI/видео.html
Nice catch that was a huge trout also what's foul hooking everytime I've caught big trout they always have it in there mouth I've got 6 biggins this year 2023 so far not that heavy tho that's actually insane imma have to hit up
San Juan River
outstanding catch, I was up in Jemez river and caught a couple good ones last week.
Thanks! I fished Jemez many years ago before the action camera was made and caught lots there, surprisingly there were some big ones, landed one 16" and the other big one broke AK47 fly and got away. I may try fishing next year and take some action videos. Happy fishing!
Awesome Fish!!! Way to go Andy!!! I miss San Juan River!!
I left this big one unharmed so come on get it.
Congrats Andy!!
Thanks, better come over and test your skill on the San Juan.
Great handling of true trophy.
Absolute best part is that 12 dollar wal- mart set up! I'm shocked that rod didn't explode into about 5000 shards of whatever crap they use to make those things. Wow!
The rod and reel cost was $49 plus tax, I have to add own AK Pro Leader and fly of course. I already caught and land at least 300 trout testing the rod for a couple of month testing, you can see other videos of myself using this rod; streamer fishing, dry fly fishing and nymphing. This happened to be the end part of testing period, trust me, I was somewhat nervous about the rod strength. Bought a longer rod after this video, same brand but 9' for $69 plus tax, this one came with a leader. Posted a few videos of using the rod already, check them out.
Great ghillie work.
Way to go Andy.
Great catch, Andy! You say #18 Y-OJ, how about tippet and rod? I would be using a 5 weight 6x tippet, but it looked like you might have been using a little heavier gear.
I was testing a new equipment, this rod/reel/ fly line combo bought it from Walmart under $50 and caught tons. I used 5X tippet on this case, Yong OJ is size 20 hook but tie the material all the way around the bend so about size 19. You will my fly fishing product review on this rod soon. Here's my very first product testing video: ruclips.net/video/K2F3j3wGHoM/видео.html
Nice one!
My arms are burning just watching!
Ha ha, that's how I felt fighting this one but didn't want others to know.
Wow that's a big trout you caught there 👏 Hey Andy I have a question? Do you know if there's any trout in the San juan river that runs between Shiprock nm and Farmington nm and Kirtland nm!?
I'm sure there's a few, they stock rainbows time to time Animas River in Aztec and some wild brown may move down to Farmington area when there's enough flow.
Congratulations.
Thank you!
Holy cow congrats! We’re you above or below TH??
looks like well below TH
Thanks! It was below the Biscuit Rock downstream from Texas Hole. I left her unharmed so she's waiting for your challenge.
@@yspecial1 didn’t you kill it by over handling?
I'm confused. How does the San Juan have a world record? Title is misleading. I've seen a couple pics with larger ones.
None from the SJ is big as this one and legally caught, here's the video of proof: ruclips.net/video/m17k7j4GUEk/видео.html
Cool
What a tank!
Thanks!
Lol if people call 18"+ tanks then this guy is a Schwerer Gustav railway gun!
Great fish Andy!!! I wanted to come back out there for several years I heard something about only residence could buy licenses any truth to that?
Wide open right now, anyone can fish with proper fishing license.
Only residence?
Wow nice! 만세!!!
Thanks, haven't heard that word for a long time.
Did u fish by Navajo dam or Farmington
Fished the quality water and caught this monster.
Was that in the tail water section by the damn?
Headed there in a couple weeks and trying to get all the info I can on best spots to fish
@@morghonthompson6202 The fishing is all good from below the dam to bait fishing section but bigger trout, 18 inch plus size, are at the upper section from Texas Hole.
Incredible fish. Congratulations. Could you tell me how big the fly you were using was and the diameter of your tippet?
He used Y-OJ, he usually ties it in #18. I am guessing this was #18
Thanks. The Yong OJ fly was in-between sz 18 and 20, say 19 and used 5X tippet.
Awesome catch! Do you guide?
Yes, been teaching and guiding last 3 plus decades. FYI, some of my clients who took a lesson or two are guiding on the river also.
That would be good Smoked :))
This is the catch and release section quality water.
@@yspecial1 yes am aware of that… I’m a Fellow Arizonian myself
Aren't you the guy who owes me money? ha ha
The the other way around, ha ha.
He makes kids cry and sit by the bank.
May God bless you!
Definitely foul hooked. Seen it in person.
Right, foul hook it in the mouth as the video shows without any editing like many snaggers do. Guess you are one of those people who catch the trout on the body is proper fishing.
@@yspecial1 where in the video did you pull out the hook from the mouth? Prove it.
@@jon121587 Just unbelievable, May God Bless You!
@@yspecial1 if any one needs the blessing it’s you for lying to everybody. I’m still waiting for the exact time in the video where you say you took the hook out of the mouth. I’ve played it over and over and don’t seem to find it. Strange nuh?
Can anyone else hear crickets lmao Truth Hurts I Know.
Great fish, but not even close to a world record. NM record, perhaps.
I believe that we're talking New Mexico record, like you said not close to world record status.
ruclips.net/video/m17k7j4GUEk/видео.html
It was bigger in person. 50 dollar rod on 5X tippet I was there he makes it look easy ..
Thank you very much for taking photos!
Andy Kim... That is the worst fish I have ever seen. You foul hooked it and I know you secretly touched it with your cotton glove which is very harming. I also was out there yesterday and caught one at least 40inchs plus 37.6 pounds.
May God bless you!
This is why my husband and I will not fish the San Juan any more. I used to be a guide there. People like you are hateful rude and you do not own the river or the fish. So what if he touched the fish , foul hooked it or what ever you feel you need to judge. You caught a bigger one anyway. I'm sure you filmed it and showed all your buddies. Sure you have never killed a fish in catch and release. Andy has been fishing the San Juan for a long time and has out fished all of us over and over again. He may be a bit boastful but he is a great guide. Lots of repeat customers and ties some fantastic flies.
