I've made a new video recently comparing Bilt Hamber Auto Foam and Touch-Less to some other snow foams including Wax Planet 8 Below and Autobrite Magifoam. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/hVQAmVWvCpM/видео.html
There's quite a few car detailing channels on youtube, but I find myself coming back to this one. The videos have the perfect balance conciseness and detail. Well done.
Thank you for taking the time to really drill down into the differences between the two BH products. You went very Forensic detailing on this video. It was really helpful to see the different 'real-world' variables being compared. I'm sure a lot of hard work went into this video!
Great and well thought out review Heather. As a detailer myself who's used BH for a long time, I'd love to hear your thoughts on one of my little go-to tricks of the trade, and perhaps see you test it out. Many complain about the thin foam of Auto Foam and the lack of dwell time, especially if they are a bit on a budget with low volume pressure washers and a budget foam lance etc. I do have my equipment up to snuff, but I do encounter situations where dwell time changes. It can be if the hardness of the water changes a bit, moisture, temps etc. I don't like the really thick shaving cream foams, as they really don't do anything but cling to the car, but I have found that adding a bit of a high foaming soap like MagiFoam, Chemical Guys Snow foam, or Meguiar's Ultimate Snow etc. can help a lot if dwell is a problem. It does not create a shaving cream, but it does make a foam that will easier dwell for 5 minutes. It also helps on a hot day as it becomes slower to dry. I add 30 ml of snow foam to a litre of BH mix. Give it a try, it works great.
Your testing methodology is better and results more insightful than all of the other comparisons I have seen on youtube even in comparison to the much larger detailing channels, particularly around the degradation of the sealants after 5 washes. Well done. I think I will be running with the auto foam myself
Arguably more useful information as Heather is not a full time RUclipsr has bought the products herself and not reliant on good relations with brands or taking paid sponsorships 🤔
@@gillywash1487 John is open about when a video is paid/sponsored and has explained why (to earn a living, who'd have thought!). His videos are informative and honest.
Well done comparison and video. I have long wondered whether pre-washing with snow foam was worth the effort, product, and water. After watching FDC on the cleaning ability of these products, some of my concerns were confirmed. All of the pH-neutral soaps had little to no cleaning effect in a contact-less format. The high pH products seemed to "melt" the grime allowing it to be washed away. Bilt Hamber won the FDC shoot-out which brought me to your review. Now back to your findings: I am struck by how much grime is left untouched by these products (kind of depressing). I suspect that in order to attack stuck on grime, solvent properties are required rather than relying on surfactant alone (hence the high pH). It also appears that the contactless product supports spraying with a spray bottle whereas snow foam requires a foam cannon (per BH website). This is an important issue for me since these products are very expensive in the states and I would prefer to "spritz" it on rather than wasting loads of product in a foam cannon for a somewhat marginal benefit. Any thoughts on product application versatility? Thx
Thanks for this video, been looking for a direct comparison between these. I have used auto foam for years, and wasn't sure if paying extra for touchless was worth it, but it seems not. I use a karcher, and have worked as a valeter, and been a hobby detailer for years. Big fan of BH products.
Great video. I was just about to try the touchless as my auto foam is running low, but I don't think I will bother. The other thing that I find interesting is the debate on pre-rinsing before snow foam application. I have seen several videos recently that say no, as it can dilute the product. I tried it several times dry and I don't agree, especially in the UK with a winter buildup. I think you need to pressure wash all the heavy nasty stuff first, let it drip dry as much as is practical, then apply snow foam. No snow foam in the world can dissolve huge chunks of dried on mud and road grime from dry effectively. The foam deals with the majority of the rest prior to contact wash.
I've never understood the obsession with wanting shaving foam levels from snow foam products. Are these people going to take a Mach 3 to their car? I'm guessing it makes for a good picture for the 'Gram, but I'd much rather have a product that works. Whenever I hit my car up with BH Auto-Foam I can see brown streaks in the foam that's run off onto the ground.
two surprises for your results 1. not actually quite potent prewash. I use BH AF a lot and for protected car I can prewash almost all the film. Like, I find just a shy of dirt on the bottom in rinse bucket after a hands wash. 2. I use it on summer waxes like zymol range but also known short-runners like souveran and cannot see the impact. Like souveran did 4 washes and this is a wax where durability you count in days ;) and adeddnum - AF works better if you rinse, not foam. I've got a foam gun but tend to use it in a hand sprayer. Cost effective, easier to control PIR, even faster, cleans better.
Love the John style tests!!! And i also love Bilt Hamber products. So much performance for the price. I'm really glad their products are available in Czechia.
I don't really snow foam that much anymore as I feel the pre-rinse is the most important part of the safe wash. I do use APC in a sprayer for the pre-wash. If I snow foam and rinse I use a high alkaline snow foam and don't worry about the LSP as it will be going back on. I do use my foam canon to spray GT One Shampoo on the car to make the contact wash as safe as possible. I don't think Touch-less is any different, BH main disadvantage is the lack of cling on their snow foams. Thanks for doing a good video.
Thanks Patrick! GT car shampoo in a foam cannon is such a good trick, I’ve tried it a few times now when the car has been dirtier than normal even after a good prewash and it definitely feels like a safer method
Great video.Just bought the auto foam after your recommendation as I was using auto finesse snow foam, Wow what a difference now I see the point of snow foam auto finesse was rubbish.
I do have both and I agree with you, both products are really good but I can’t see any difference between them on performance. I do love Bilt hammer products, great value and performance.
I am in the market for a snow foam , have used autoglym polar blast which in my opinion does nothing to clean dirt off , hopefully auto foam will do better . Thanks for the video .
Pre wash is better if it isn't super thick from my experience, used quite a few different foams and frankly BH has been the best, a dry, clingy foam isn't going to be pulling away the dirt anywhere near as well, so for me the fact it isn't any thicker is only a positive as it shows they've not tried to go for the instagram market at the expense of performance. Frankly, Auto Foam is cheaper, and does just as good of a job so I'll be sticking with that, though the Touch Less does seem to generally be a stronger cleaner but it's a small difference.
I agree with you there, thicker snow foams aren’t that useful as most of the product isn’t touching the surface! The only time I think it’s beneficial is if it helps with the dwell time significantly 😊
FYI, in order to get the best performance with ANY touchless soap, it is recommended that the nozzle tip of the pressure washer be held NO MORE than 6 inches from the surface of the paint. Reason for this is the pressure from the H2O is acting like a wash mitt, and causing friction to occur between the dirt molecules, soap, and the H2O molecules, thus removing them from the paint. Your wasting your time by just spraying rinse H2O from 2 feet away and expecting any good result. Also, the nozzle tip should be as close to 90 degrees from the surface of the paint. Hope this helps.
Excellent testing Heather , very well compared. I loved the differences between touch~less and Autofoam on Glow, very interesting that touch less killed off the protection quicker being a lower ph level, how bizarre!
Brilliant video Heather. I have auto foam, and I really like it, although the high PH does show through taking off applied protection. Tend to reduce down snow foam use going into the warmer weather.
Thanks very much! I usually go for around 2% PIR this time of year if there's only been a bit of rain, a pH neutral prewash would probably be plenty for me though if the weather is decent!
I am finding with my ceramic coated car the Touchless unblocks the ceramic more effectively and affords better aquaphobic behaviours. It is so difficult to know what to buy for the best, Garage Therapy I know is a go to for you although I am yet to try it myself.
Hi Heather, Not sure if you'll pick this up as its 3 years later but in my humble opinion pre rinsing with water doesn't make an awful lot of difference as there's instances of being advised to spray the car with the likes of a citrus prewash or BH Surfex then apply the snowfoam over the top of it ..... what's the difference as if anything you'd think a proper prewash chemical would have more of a negative effect 6:05
I can definitely see the ability to be rinsed under low pressure being an advantage for some people. I’m wondering what the benefit for using touch-less and touch-on together is though, in comparison to auto foam and touch-less
Very very interesting, clearly at this time of year any differences are subtle. Maybe its as you say winter / summer related, at least this stops me rushing out to buy some when i already have plenty of Auto Foam left. Any way when i do i shall ring Bilt Hamber and get their comments on the subtleties. Thanks for another excellent video, best wishes.
Hi Heather, one thing you’ve highlighted is that a snow foam can be alkaline these days. P21S was the first “detailing” wax (non-halfords) I bought back in early 2006. You had to use ph neutral on those sorts of products or they would quickly degrade. With today’s sealants, coatings and sprays that are much more chemically resistant, it makes little difference if a prewash is alkaline. It can actually be beneficial and bring back beading. This PH neutral rule is from a different era of products. It’s changed so much in the last 8-10 years. I’ve also never had any issues with rinsing AutoFoam or any type of prewash or shampoo. Plus rinsing isn’t an issue as you follow with a contact wash.
Thanks very much for watching! Definitely agree with you there, both are great but can’t see a reason to get touch-less if you’ve already got auto foam stocked up 😊
Cracking video Heather, I've heard and seen similar results from other people so personally I'm in no rush to try the Touch-less, I think I'll stick to the Auto Foam for the time being
I have yet to try these but I suspect that there’s something auto wash didn’t clean well that touchless address better but in your case auto wash did the job just fine. Maybe try again on a super heavily spiked car next time to see? But I agree with your point probably for most people autowash is going to do a great job?
Very thorough testing! Got the same car (ceramic white) and love it. I noticed on the images after drying that you have quite hard water which might influence the real pH once applied. Have you considered using rain water? I have a 200 liter plastic barrel under a roof drain pipe and a particle filter. It washes so much better and I don't need to rush drying.
Great video and really thorough. The products seem really similar. Not sure why BH are keeping both. Wonder if TL will ultimately replace AF as surely there's not much point manufacturing (or us buyong) both??
I used both the other day to test. I used touchless first at 4% pir and found it masked/degraded the existing wax on the bonnet when I rinsed. I used autofoam at 4% pir as a second snowfoam, however the autofoam seemed to bring back the waxes to their natural water repelling abilities. For sure I would agree with you - both work great as a pre wash however the autofoam gets my vote as it doesn't seem to mask/degrade existing wax
Interesting how the Optimum No Rinse gave back a little bit of water beating. Do you think in a future video you will try a rinse less wash with ONR? Unfortunately I don't have access to running water all the time, and so I use the ONR rinse less system as my main exterior cleaning. I think it works magic, but I'm curious to get your take on it.
I'll definitely try ONR as a rinse less wash and make a video on it at some point. I've been using it a lot as a drying aid/ QD and glass cleaner at the moment so I might make a video first on the alternative uses and then go all out and get a test panel for the rinse less wash demo :)
I personally haven't brought either yet and was looking into auto foam after watching a few youtube videos and recommendations of decent foams with a good cleaning ability. Still think im going to eventually go with auto foam as it seems to be a firm favourite of alot of detailing people. 👍 good testingvlook forward to more.
@@AutoCareHQ any updates or new findings? I just found these two products and accidentally bought Touchless instead of Autofoam. I did return Carpro Lift though. Now I know either or is better than that at least
I get confused with these PIR ratios. Forensic detail says 4 percent pir is 500ml product to 500Ml water. Have you tried that mix? I am trying that this week on Auto Foam. Still waiting for touchless and touch on to try. Great videos from your channel. Thanks
It depends on the foam cannon, that mix for my cannon would be too concentrated. I usually go for around 100ml of product to 400ml of water which works well. I’ve got a video on how to work out PIR but Sparkleanautos has a better one!
I personally think you will be wasting product with 500 BH. I've found whatever PIR you use it makes no difference, you can still run your fingers through the dirt. But good luck mini don't get disappointed like me it's not going to get the vehicle spotless.
For some reason at 2% PIR my Touch-Less produces a lot more foam. 12710 ml during the 1000 ml test. I use 750ml water to 250ml product in the foam canon. Any tips?
The advantages of Touchless are that it rises better and has anti-corrosion inhibitors, but with the same cleaning power as Autofoam. To me this is a major advantage, especially cleaning motorcycles as you cannot always guarantee that you can rinse the product off from all the nooks and crannies. Autofoam is highly alkaline, just smell it, and I wouldn't want that dwelling on my bike.
That ability to rinse under low pressure is definitely a perk on a motorcycle. The pH of auto foam doesn't worry me much though, it's still non-caustic and was less aggressive on the paint protection compared to touch-less despite having a higher pH
Good test and information 👍🏼, auto foam is cheaper and seems to perform the same or better 🤷🏻♂️ amazing really they’ve made a whole new formula and ended up with such a similar product 🤔
Cheers Nick! I was really expecting a more dramatic difference too tbh. It'll take me a long time to get through both of these, but pretty sure I'll be going back to auto foam when it's time to restock
Hi Heather when you apply BH touch less or auto foam with your MJJC lance. Do you have the dial turned to maximum? Currently using GT snow foam and still trying to get the consistency correct.
I'm not convinced whether the Touchless is better than Autofoam either. I've also used the the touchless shampoo which you can apply by snow foam lance or by two bucket wash. I've used both methods with good results. It leaves a ceramic coating. How long it lasts is anybodies guess.
It would do but it can end up damaging the pressure washer if you use an orifice that’s too small because you’ll get back pressure so I wouldn’t recommend it tbh!
Got the Autofoam but whilst it does a good job applying it via a pump foamer , no access for a jetwash , it doesnt cling . If I apply it and start the wheels by the time Ive done 2 or 3 wheels its gone . Using Auto Glym now which is much thicker so clings longer , maybe doesnt have the cleaning power but its staying on the car longer than a few minutes
I only have experience with Auto foam and it is a great product I wonder what made them put so much R and D into this and bringing it to market etc! Regardless nice video!
Thanks for watching! Both are fantastic snow foams but auto foam does seem to have the edge still, unless I'm completely missing something I don't massively understand the reasoning behind touch-less either!
Hello! When you let water dry on the car, aren't you scared of waterspot issue? it depends on the water in your area, but i'm always careful about it even though i've got pretty decent water.
Their contactless should possibly be marketed as contact wash to follow auto foam as neither remove all the dirt Autofoam first then contact would surely remove all the muck!
Agree. I could handle the accent if she had a proper microphone. But I gotta be honest; I knew the results of the comparison from other channels who have done similar testing.
First time viewer on your channel and very impressed by your methodology and review. I have used Auto Foam in the past, ran out recently and bought Touch-Less. My comment is purely anecdotal and I think I was overdosing and had a higher than 4% PIR but through my gun it appeared to be significantly thicker foam than Auto Foam two weeks ago, same gun same settings same mix ratio and removed more RTF to the point that it didn't really need an additional wash. I found it to be much more effective on the wheels, will have a look at optimum no rinse as well so thanks for highlighting that product. Looking in the background glad it's not just me that has more car products than Halfords!
Thanks very much! That’s really interesting, maybe there’s a bit more to their comment about Touch-Less working better on different types of traffic film. I’ll keep trying them together and see if any of the results change on some more cars. Thanks again for commenting 😊
If you are one of those people that think a pre rinse causes material detriment to the PIR or the efficacy of a pre-wash solution then you need to go back to counting the beans in your tin of Heinz to make sure you're not getting scammed.
I don’t think that. If you watch the previous video then you’ll see that I pre rinse before snow foaming, like I said, it was just to avoid arguments in the comments!
@@AutoCareHQ Sorry! I should have included a time stamp here for reference. I watched the pre-wash video. Loved it. My comment was directed to all the people you mention at 2:20. Obviously you've had some comments in that pre-wash video about the PIR on a rinsed car. I don't agree with those at all. Love the content, really great stuff. Keep up the good work.
Oh god I’m sorry I thought it was a dig 😂 yeah it was definitely a big debate in the comments of that video! I know Gilly_Wash did a post recently on Instagram comparing rinsing first vs applying the product dry and it definitely looked more effective after a rinse there too! Thanks very much for watching the videos 😊
like everything its clever marketing. and if anyone complains the company has a million and 1 reasons its nothing to do with their product its the person using it!
soooo they just created a product that is worst then their old one ??? john form Forensic Detailing Channel has a video on this too he I remember got very similar results
@@AutoCareHQ I have auto foam I use it at 1:100 in a foam sprayer works great just me dumbass not prepping the surface and thinking why protection doesn't last and of course winter takes her place soo yeah I got it and its so cheap I think 9 cents if you use it at 1:100 so best price
Already an Autofoam user - went to buy Touchless from my normal supplier but apparently the last Touch less has just been purchased...... Managed to grab a jerrycan of touchless and now awaiting my car to get dirty enough to give it a proper test. Like you I am still wondering where it fits... Could it be that is sugar based and has lest chemicals than Autofoam... I really just don't know.
The higher the pH, the stronger an alkaline it is. The lower the pH the stronger an acid is. The strongest chemicals are at the both extremes of the pH scale
This style of testing is extremely inaccurate, how did you manage to measure 5% PIR in a trigger spray bottle? And the cotton pad swipe thing doesn’t work either
5% PIR in a spray bottle is just 5% of product diluted in water 😂 The cotton swipe test and the pics of the car after drying are the only way I can think of to test this on camera 🤷♀️
The market for detailing products is very saturated, that does not help in myself and others in making a confident purchase as I’ve been endlessly product hopping. I can’t thank you enough for the professional reviews of each product! 🤍

That’s definitely true, I’ve always noticed that auto foam really brings back the water behaviour more than others that I’ve tried
I’ve noticed a lot of alkaline snow foams appearing now or snow foam with a little bite as Sansom put!
Great testing Heather 👍. The auto foam is fantastic and am still unsure about the touch-less. Seems like both good with very small differences.
Thanks very much for watching! Definitely agree with you there, both are great but can’t see a reason to get touch-less if you’ve already got auto foam stocked up 😊
Cracking video Heather, I've heard and seen similar results from other people so personally I'm in no rush to try the Touch-less, I think I'll stick to the Auto Foam for the time being
Thank you! Yeah it might be worth a go when you run out eventually but auto foam is still the winner for me! 😊
@@AutoCareHQ hoe does it compare to Koch Chemi foams?
Thanks for watching! I’ve not actually considered that before but it sounds like a good idea 😊
Great video and really thorough. The products seem really similar. Not sure why BH are keeping both. Wonder if TL will ultimately replace AF as surely there's not much point manufacturing (or us buyong) both??
Thanks very much 😊 I hope it doesn’t end up replacing AF as it’s still my favourite haha!
Great video...I have both myself and your points are spot on. I really like your "real world" reviews of products...Great channel keep it up 😊
Thank you very much 😊 Both are great snow foams but auto foam is definitely the winner for me!
That’s very interesting that you noticed the masking behaviour too, thanks for letting me know! 😊
Great vid, how does touchless smell? I find bilt hamber make Great product but find some are really strong smell
So if I have no snow foam which one do I go for? I don't already have auto foam like you mention.
Nice video, very informative. Think I will try the auto foam, when I can get some.
Thanks! It’s definitely a product worth having 😊
Heather have you tried labsocosmetica primus yet? I would be interested to see if this cleans better than touchless/autofoam. Great video👍🏽
Cracking content as usual 🙌
Thanks so much!
Thanks for watching! I’d go for auto foam definitely if I just picked up one of the two again 😊
@@AutoCareHQ Thanks a lot.
I personally think you will be wasting product with 500 BH. I've found whatever PIR you use it makes no difference, you can still run your fingers through the dirt. But good luck mini don't get disappointed like me it's not going to get the vehicle spotless.
Great video young lady very informative keep up the good work
Thanks for watching!
For some reason at 2% PIR my Touch-Less produces a lot more foam. 12710 ml during the 1000 ml test. I use 750ml water to 250ml product in the foam canon. Any tips?
Great video I have just bought touch less snow foam now thinking should I have got the auto foam stay safe looking forward to more videos 🇬🇧👍
It's still a great purchase, both are really good snow foams! Thanks for watching :)
@@rodgerdodger1625 thanks stay safe 🇬🇧👍
Great video!! That helped me make my mind up think I’ll just stick with auto foam! Thanks 😀
Thanks very much for watching!
Enjoying the videos, good job 👍🏻
Thank you!
I'm not convinced whether the Touchless is better than Autofoam either. I've also used the the touchless shampoo which you can apply by snow foam lance or by two bucket wash. I've used both methods with good results. It leaves a ceramic coating. How long it lasts is anybodies guess.
It’d definitely be interested to give touch-on a try at some point. I’ve never tried any of those kind of shampoos before they look pretty cool!
Touch less is damage the coated surface? Wax or ceramic coated surface?
Good video. My question to you, which is better to use on a vehicle that has gtechniq crystal serum light and exo v4 that wont harm the coating?
Great video as always 👍🏼
Thanks very much!
Been using auto foam going to try out the touch less tomorrow see how that goes I’ll let you know
How’d it go?
Was it that bad ?
which one used to be the B & H Degreaser? or Surfex HD......or was it just discontinued?
I've an MjjC snow foam cannon. What measurements of each products would you recommend
Do you think autofoam would be thicker with the smaller oriface in the snow foam lance. ?
It would do but it can end up damaging the pressure washer if you use an orifice that’s too small because you’ll get back pressure so I wouldn’t recommend it tbh!
Thank you.
Yeah that’s a bit of a drawback with auto foam it really doesn’t hang about!
Hey, I washed the car straight afterwards so the water spots just came off no problem 😊
Hello from about 3.000 km from u, thanks for your video/test/info, that's give's u a like and subscribe.
great test 👌
Where did you get your pressure washer gun from? It looks really powerful!
It's really good, I got it from In2Detailing. I've made this video on it with the link here :) ruclips.net/video/bVwkc7hvpa8/видео.html
@@AutoCareHQ thank you 😊
Their contactless should possibly be marketed as contact wash to follow auto foam as neither remove all the dirt
Autofoam first then contact would surely remove all the muck!
Loooooove your videos Heather!
Thank you for watching them!
Third video I've watched of yours it's been difficult to hear you properly in parts despite having on max volume :(
Why is 1 ph 13 and the other ph 12? Why not both ph 13?
I enjoy your videos and love the accent.
soooo they just created a product that is worst then their old one ??? john form Forensic Detailing Channel has a video on this too he I remember got very similar results
He did and the touchless wasn't as good but very close. 👍
Auto Foam does still definitely look like the best one for me, unless I'm missing a trick I just can see any additional benefit to Touch-Less
I'd be very interested to here your thoughts when you give it a try!
How did you get on? Which do you too performs better?
Not a convincing difference to choose touchless over autofoam. John from fdc also as the same opinion as you I think. Anyways nice content.
Yep can’t see much of a reason to spend the extra couple of pounds on touch-less really
Autofoam more than enough !
How does auto compare to p&s pearl or Adams auto shampoo?
I’ve not tried either of those I’m afraid
I think its very informative video, it’s just I have no clue what you are saying
Basically it’s rubbish there was loads of dirt still after pre wash
👍🏻
I go with a good pre wash then snow foam, Make's the whole wash process
Quicker. ( But! that is on my car, and other opinion may very)
Forensics Auto Care ;)
The higher the PH the lower bite it has the lower the ph the more bite it has have a look at the online ph table
The higher the pH, the stronger an alkaline it is. The lower the pH the stronger an acid is. The strongest chemicals are at the both extremes of the pH scale
Touch-less is basically pointless then!! Why create a product that is worse than your previous one and more expensive 😂
I can’t see many advantages at the moment tbh!
