    Fill your snow foam cannon with water.
    Dispense the cannon filled with water into a bucket.
    Measure how much water was dispensed.
    Calculate the desired PIR by calculating the percentage of how much water was dispensed in step 3.
    So If the snow foam cannon is filled to 1 L, and you connect it to your pressure washer and dispense it fully and this results in 10 L of water in the bucket, then the pressure washer is diluting it by 10x. If the snow foam has a recommended PIR of 4%, then you would calculate 4% of 10 L which is 400 mL (0.4 L). This means you need to add 400 mL of snow foam to your cannon, and then top it up with water by adding 600 mL to achieve the correct panel impact ratio.
    I followed these steps with version 1 of touch-less and auto foam I get brilliant results.
    Hope this helps people struggling with working out the pir

      @@shakeysteventon4197 You first need to work out the PIR of your own foam cannon before you know how much product you need.
      2% is the maximum recommendation and isn’t required in most cases, plus you don’t need to empty a 1 litre foam cannon over the car unless it’s a big car, van etc. I get away with using just 500ml total solution each time on a 5 Series, so when buying 5L it’s quite good value.
      Even better value if you are using a pump sprayer, trigger spray etc.

      So much misinformation out there about how to use these products. Yes, the PIR calculations are correct. The key to using it and getting the cost saving benefits is about how much to use. I get 5/6 washes out of my lance, because you’re only meant to ‘wet’ the surface. This whole notion of ‘I’ve got to smother my car in product’ is what leads everyone to get 1, maybe 2 washes from it, then thinking it’s an expensive option. I use 150-200 ml of my lance each time, depending how dirty the car is. That’s how it should be used but every video shows someone drenching the car with product. If you think it’s wrong, contact BH, that’s what I did and that’s how I know. BH state it on their website, saying it should last 4/5 washes! There is also a video from a guy foaming his Abarth (with Autofoam as was years before Touchless) and he shows you how to use it. It literally is about barely touching the trigger. Anyway, thought I’d throw that in to help clear up any confusion about how much to use. Once you get your head around less is more with BH products, you’ll start to see why they are so popular.

    Another great video, which explains detailing clearly and concisely. I've been using Touchless for a couple of years now along with their wheel cleaner and the results are amazing. I wanted to simplify the PIR calculation (4% with the old version), so use a 5 Litre pump spray bottle using 200 ml. This also avoids foam all over the place and a call to the company confirmed that this is just as effective as using a foam cannon. No wasted product into the bargain. Before doing the contact wash, I spray the car with Surfex HD mixed at 1:20 with water, which I believe gives the shampoo an additional boost to remove grease on the paintwork. I did find that Surfex was emulsifying when left for a period and BH advised me that this can happen in certain water areas, so I use deionised water and problem solved. It does add to the cost though. Keep these great videos coming!

    Nice one. Great video as always. I did tests last year of BH’s ‘calculated’ PIR method and the quantity required seemed absurd. I then tried 20% strength, 10% strength, 4% strength and finally even as low as 2% strength (this was last year so using old touchless), delivered in an ik foamer. All ratios worked really well, and the key difference was foam thickness and therefore cling time. Cleaning power was very very similar. So you can be very frugal. I typically use 100/150ml of old touchless in my Mjjc filled up to apprx 1 litre. Does the job really well. Also, I find a wetter, less thick foam better when it’s blazing hot. It’ll be coming off in 5 mins anyway. Great video as always. All the best.

    The PIR method does actually make sense, when you've worked out your PIR then you can understand why they have done it. Everyone's pressure washer and supply pressure is vastly different from one end of the country to the next. Bilt Hamber want you the use and enjoy the product with very measured and precise amounts to get the very best. I think 250ml is way too much unless your using a fire engine hose to clean your car with. I use around 35 to 50ml in my snowfoam bottle as an example.
    Place a marker on your snowfoam bottle so that you know where to fill it next time. Top tip. Reduce the amount you add to your snowfoam bottle depending on the time of year and how dirty the car it to save even more product. I'd say 4-5% with the 5ltrs bottle, 2% from the condensed 1ltr bottle in mid winter with all the salt of the road and half that in the summer or less. Easy peasy

    Touch-Less is brilliant, this version is actually V3, the first version wasn’t very foamy so it was adjusted into the V2 that was max 5% PIR and the new V3 is max 2% PIR.

    • @Ally.MacMillan
      @Ally.MacMillan 7 месяцев назад +1

      Which is just laziness on their part, it’s generic at best.
      PIR is the best method of getting product into the panel as it was designed to work.
      Foam cannons and PWs vary greatly, so will results when using a generic ratio.
      For me personally, there isn’t any point in investing in a great product but then not using it as it was researched, tested and designed to be used.
      Some folks will get less than good results by doing that, then could have a negative impression of it.

      Yes this goes back to my point in the video. Newbie goes on social media group, Pro says use bilt hamber, newbie doesn't want to do the research, they just wanted the best product and that's where things go wrong. Wouldn't say they are lazy for doing so but when something is the best the expectation of the beginners is just to put whatever amount in, wash the car and job done.

    • @Ally.MacMillan
      @Ally.MacMillan 7 месяцев назад

      @@epicautomotivedetailing again, I’m not calling the user lazy, I’m calling the manufacturers lazy for not giving a recommended PIR range.
      All it is, is a percentage or a ratio, however anyone wants to look at it.
      We use percentage and ratios for everything else apart from what comes out of a foam cannon.
      Why? Because snow foaming cars is one of the iggest gimmicks in this industry and most of them are absolutely useless.
      We dilute everything else according to a percentage or a ratio.
      That’s all PIR is and it’s the right way to get the product to work as intended, as it is designed to work.
      Most snow foams, PIR really doesn’t matter because they do nothing anyway, but this isn’t a snow foam, it’s a foaming pre wash, as is Autofoam

  • @kwl189
    @kwl189 7 месяцев назад +2

    I stopped working just so I could tune in to this video. Pump sprayer is best. This is the undisputed king for pre washes and cost per wash. You can’t beat this product. They just amped up the power in this latest version. It was already one of the best before that in the previous version. They’ve absolutely murdered everyone in the pre wash game now with this. On one hand Dave, you said earlier in the video that it sounded complicated reading the back to measure PIR but then in practice found it to be fair simple? Slightly inconsistent there I feel. Pump up sprayer is most economical and easiest for most people to do. I would definitely recommend working out PIR where you can just lob product in NEAT, and dial back on the canon to a marked point and you’ll always get your 2% PIR
    The way to do this is fill up the canon to 400ml (assuming you have a 1 litre capacity canon).
    Turn the dial on the canon to maximum and then turn back one circle, two times as a starting point.
    Grab a bucket with marking to 10 litres or one you already measured and know to 10 litres at a certain point.
    Spray out the pressure wash into the bucket until you get 10 litres.
    Measure how much is left in the canon. Because we’ve filled the canon with 400ml of water, we want 200ml to be left over having expelled 10 litres of total solution. There by giving us the 2% PIR we want.
    Long time first time but then from there on after you’ve marked the spot, you can chuck product in neat into the canon and off you go. No worrying about measuring.

    • @kwl189
      @kwl189 7 месяцев назад

      @@epicautomotivedetailing Trigger spray really is the best mate. Cheap too compared to buying a foam canon and probably best for work flow, like while the spray sits on the paintwork and wheels, get the pressure washer connected to the mains and set up. Your 5 minutes will be done depending on your setup and how fast you are and it’s only a problem when temperatures rise or the sun is out. That’s why I gave the instructions to work out PIR for the canon at 2% because you may have to blast some product on to stop it drying out. I love pump up sprayer though. Foam is nice but what’s nicer is more money in your pocket 😅 loving the video though either way. Another benefit to this product I wish you had given mention to, is its free rinsing properties. In the winter, most of us just wanna get to a reasonable standard with 95/98% of dirt being off in the fastest possible way because we know that 20 minutes later on a drive, the car is dirt and ruined again. Touch less has free rinsing meaning you can spray on and blast the dirt off and leave it being fine. It doesn’t leave a leftover film like Surfex HD, Autofoam and other pre washes. Only GT Therapy Snowfoam also does this otherwise other pre washes mean you need to do a contact stage to fully remove it. This is super handy and convenient in the winter.

      That, for me, is bullcrap and lazy.
      PIR is very easy to work out.
      By using PIR means you get the same result whether you are using a trigger spray, pump spray, pump foamer or foam cannon.
      All foam cannons are different so using PIR means that you get the correct amount of mixture on the panel.
      That should give people a positive experience as they won't then be putting too much or too little product onto the panel, which does matter a bit, and won’t get false results either way.

Then a quick once over Auto QD and drying towel, and Bob’s your uncle.
    But what I really like about their products is that you can dilute right down according to how dirty your car is and they’re still effective.

Wait before I’ve used the full 1L I’m just one vehicle so I’m not just saving product and getting two vehicles for the price of one. Great video Dave. Have to agree with you about calculating PIR. End of the day like yourself I want to wash the car, not perform some mathematical calculation. Bilt Hamber products are excellent, but if you have to use 250ml of that product in a cannon, that's exactly cheap either. I'm a cheapskate, so I normally use diluted APC or citrus pre wash in a pump sprayer 🤣.

    They perhaps haven’t used the best wording on the bottle to describe how to achieve the PIR % but they will never tell you how much to put in your foam cannon in ml, as each one is unique to the the PW it uses.
    So, simple way of calculating your PIR for a foam cannon.
    Fill your foam cannon with 1 litre of water.
    Set the dial to how you normally use it.
    Connect it to your PW and empty it into a bucket with the PW running.
    Measure how much water is in the bucket once you have emptied the foam cannon.
    Let’s just say you made 12 litres water in total.
    If you want to use say 2% PIR then multiply 12000 by 0.02 which gives you 240.
    So that would be 240ml product in your foam cannon with 760ml water.
    In my case I only need 500ml total to get round my car, so I would use 120ml product with 380ml water, if I wanted 2%.
    Remember you can use this stuff at 0.5% PIR so it makes for great value when you buy 5L, and insane value if you are using a pump sprayer.
    Hope that makes sense.

    Cracking video, Dave. Its my birthday this weekend i sent a pucture of the bottle to my Son, so here's hoping.
    I have to agree, PIR isn't something I've calculated before, not that i wouldnt but, of you used 250ml and 750ml of water, then I'm not going to be far wrong with 125ml of Touch-less and 375ml of water, maybe I'll just try that.
    Regarding cost per wash, im not that bothered, I'm just enjoying cleaning my car, I just want good results and if its a little more expensive, thats OK.

    The issue with cakculating PIR it all deidnds on the accuracy of the measurement marks on yuur equipment ..... I trained as an analytical chemist in the steel industry and appreciate the need fir accuracy measurenent .....
    Your snow foam bottle says it golds 1 litre but if measured using laboratory glass ware it could be anything from 950 ml to 1050 ml (maybe better or worse) yiur detailing bucket ghat says sprayed 11.5 litres into could be anything from 11-12 litres and even measuring it out with a kitchen jug that litre jug could be ss innacurate as yuur foam bottle ..... So yiur calculation saying you need 420 mls diluted to 1 litre could be miles out and who on earth is going to messure out 420 mls youll fill yiur fiam bottle to lightly under 600 mks and top it up to 1 litre .
    Its as easy to just say if yiu need 4% mix 400 mls to 1 litre and have done with it ..... Give it a try and if its working great you're ok, you could dven try bringing it down a little abd if its not working to well add a bit more in

    All this PIR calculation bollox is pointless for the hobby detailer, they are not obsessed with profit margins and working out how much material per car to calculate the minimum amount required to achieve acceptable results but still make enough of a profit to make the business viable.
    For BH auto foam, which costs about £23 for 5 litres, fill your snow foam gun container about 1/3rd full of BH auto foam (or 1/2 if you are bothered about super thick foam), then top up with hot water out of the hot tap. That will be more than enough for a medium sized car, it will clean very well, and the last stage of cleaning (the contact wash) will be a lot safer.
    The quality and thickness of snow foam, is more reliant on the type of foam gun/cannon, and the pressure of the jetwasher, than it is the product. But, the effectiveness of the cleaning, is reliant on the product, so what looks like amazingly thick snow foam might not actually be better for cleaning the car, and sometimes a thinner foam is a lot better at actually cleaning dirt.
    The 5 litre container of BH auto foam will last you at least 20 washes at this ratio, which is extremely cheap yet very effective.
    Leave the PIR calculations to professional detailers, who are working to strict budgets for profit/loss.

The product is so good even 'detailers' who want good money for quick once over may be missing a trick here (only the lack of bright colours and bubblegum flavour may be an issue). As you say, what's the big deal with working out PIR? It's a one time thing, also helping to avoid wasting product. Then you just vary according to the job in hand. (no need to use full strength on a regularly maintained vehicle).
