    The popularity of these books exhaust me. Tropes, plot, genre, whatever, if a person is into what these books do with that, I won't complain, even when I'm not into those parts myself. But how is it nearly a MILLION people (at present) can put up with the *writing* ? What's going on? Seriously.
    I don't consider myself analytical and I'm not even interested in being so. I just read for fun. But given this, the fact that I STILL pick up on writing issues constantly from Fourth Wing ... it just makes the love surrounding these books so tiring. It screams "unfair to other authors", making me feel defensive of people I've never even heard of.

    Im glad you posted this because i had a lot of the same opinions as you on other kinds of YA books and now i know not to bother with this one 🙌

      Fourth Wing is YA?

    • @nikkisbooks_
      @nikkisbooks_  6 месяцев назад

      @@katgreer6113 technically no, it’s NA but the way it’s written (outside of the spicy scenes) feels very YA

      Priory of the Orange Tree has a proper opening page. Looks good.

    I finished Crooked Kingdom before reading these books. I enjoyed them but Iron Fist got very slow. The romance was absolute cringe. I am not sure if I will read the third book.
    The name of the wind is the best fantasy book of the 2000's.

      It was SO cringe, right??😅 I somehow haven’t heard of that but I will definitely add it to my TBR - thank you🥰

    I just started fourth wing, and I like it bc I can read and turn my brain off, but also I like books that have substance, and it felt lacking. so thank you for this review. You put into words what i was feeling 😊

    Judging from the first couple of pages of Fourth Wing, I would say your critique is spot on. The author is telling rather than showing the initial situation, so it comes off as an infodump. Yes, she is showing the reader the protagonist climbing the stairs but all of the thoughts are an infodump. Violet would be counting steps or urging herself onto the next step in reality. Thus the monologue is unnatural.

      Now that you mention it, that’s a really good way of putting it into words. Everything feels so info dump-y but then Iron Flame just seems like repetitive info dumping without any actual relevant info😅
