The only time I write love triangles is when they’re not all toxic and they all end up together at the end. I’ve been burned by too many love triangles plot lines that felt like the wrong people ended up together

they all end up together at the end sounds great honestly because yes, the second part happens way too often 😅

Agree so hard on literally all of these. The pettier it is the more irritated I get. So glad I found this video, you have such lovely vibes!

100% agree on the confusing dialogue! It happens a lot to me when the characters don't have their own unique voices. This also bugs me when authors try to write alternating points of view that all sound like the same person talking.

omg yes! i read a book recently that every single chapter i had to go back to check which character pov it was supposed to be from because they were all THE EXACT SAME😤😅

Stephen Fry is the only audiobook narrator I can listen to, he’s brilliant at voices.

See if a narrator is good at voices I’m all for it but unfortunately the majority I’ve tried are not😅

love-triangles have me on a chokehold, tbh. aside from the fact that they're entertaining & angsty af, I like dichotomy and often times I feel like with love-triangles they really help accentuate that aspect between the love-interests.

whilst saying this, i did forget that angst is a very valid thing to enjoy in books 😅 but also i’d never thought about it from that point - very interesting! glad you enjoy them regardless 🥰

I hate long chapters too. I figure that the author decided what would go in each chapter for a reason so I like to end a reading session at the end of a chapter. I've stopped reading earlier than I'd like because I don't think I can fit the next chapter in before I have to stop reading.
Slightly related, I hate when chapters feel arbitrary i.e. a complete scene change within a chapter that bears no relation to what's gone before so could just be a new chapter or a chapter ends and the next one starts from where the previous one stopped for no reason. I get that the author might want to strongly emphasise something or add a small cliff hanger and I don't have a problem that so much.
I also agree about audiobook narrators. For this reason I tend to only listen to autobiographies read by the author. I have heard quite a few fiction audiobooks that are read straight but it's always a gamble. I felt I was safe with all non-fiction but even there I've heard narrators putting on accents and failing miserably!

I actually completely agree about the arbitrary chapter choices! And having narrators put on accents in non-fiction is something I have never encountered but already hate vehemently😅

@@nikkisbooks_ I wish I could remember which book it was. The American narrator had spent the first 25% just reading the book then for no reason he started reading someone's dialog in what I assumed was meant to be a Scottish accent. I don't think the real life person was actually Scottish though! 🤣

My partner was reading a book the other day where one of the main characters was described as having a "thick British accent". What does that even mean?

I let a friend borrow a book from me once, and she undid all of my dog-ears. It annoyed me so much. There were a good number of them, it was non-fiction, and I wanted to be able to quickly find pages for reference.

i semi agree with you about the voices. i actually prefer when the narrator is more monotone. i'm very picky about voices but its less about putting on a voice and more about intonation for me. what i can't stand is when outside of dialogue they still try to push EMOTION and go all breathy. drives me mad. can't finish a book with that. oh and i cannot listen to anything that's x times fast.
