  • Good day everyone. In this episode of “Bicycle Showcase,” Brandon and I will be talking about the Trek Dual Sport 2. The Trek Dual Sport 2 is a go-anywhere hybrid bike that performs on a variety of surfaces. It's efficient on pavement, stable on rougher terrain like gravel paths, and comfortable wherever you ride it. A suspension fork, all-terrain tires, and hydraulic disc brakes make Dual Sport 2 the smart choice for riders who want to explore beyond smooth city streets. I got the 2022 ds2. I love my bike. My brother have the FX2. We just went on a bike ride with a bicycle club on city streets. I opened the lockout just a little bit and that helped a lot with the bumpy streets. My brother said he felt every bump. Eventually his wrists started to hurt. I even took my bike out a few times on intermediate trails. I love my bike just for the shock absorption alone.

      whats the speed difference of the bikes? Do you feel the wider tires on the DS2 holding you back compared to the FX2?

    • @GetOutArizona
      @GetOutArizona  2 года назад

      @@vivenreddy That is a great question, and thank you for asking. The Dual Sport will be a more versatile bike, in my opinion, and travel at a more relaxed speed due to its larger tire size.
      Conversely, the FX series was created to be more road/gravel oriented than anything with a snappier pace. That being said, figure out what terrain you will be riding the most and go from there.
      I hope this answer was helpful. Thank you again for asking your question, as well as for watching our video.

    Great review. Thanks a ton for the insight. I am brainstorming on whether I should be going for DS2 Gen 4 OR DS 3 Gen 4 OR DS 3 Gen 5. I am looking for a bike commute of ~ 30-50 miles each ride and want to make sure I pay for what I need. I do like having a comfortable grip where the undulations do not creep in through the handles and hence want to know whether the Carbon Fiber fork does an equally/reasonably good job of muffling the bumps/ gravel ? Also, is it a huge different between having a 1 X 10 over the 2 X 7 ? Thanks in Advance !

    • @GetOutArizona
      @GetOutArizona  Год назад +1

      Hey Sam, thanks for taking the time to watch and ask your question. Both are appreciated.
      Brandon and I both agree the DS3 Gen 5 is a great blend of parts Vs price. As a commuter or riding light trails, it can certainly handle anything you would use it for.
      Plus, with a better level of components to start, you won't have to worry about replacing them for some time. Unless you got the urge to upgrade.
      As far as the difference between a 1x and 2x, it's more or less personal preference. There are some really high-end builds that still use a 2x, but the industry standard is definitely a 1x.
      I hope this reply helps you, Sam. Thanks again for the support and for taking the time to interact with us. Adventure safely, my friend.

      @@GetOutArizona I bought an FX4 Disc (2021) after all, it's an amazing bike, dark red phasing into black. All Shimano gear: hydraulic disc brakes, shifter Deore M5100, derailleur, cassette. And Bontrager H1 saddle, H2 comp tires. 1x11 drivetrain. I biked all day and noticed a steady 20 km/hr (sorry, I'm in Canada 12.5 miles/hr?) speed with no particular impact on my muscles. The frame is aluminum but the fork is carbon, not that I noticed :-) The bike is definitely lighter than my old mountain bike, around 25lbs. My old bike had a double suspension, so, the FX4 is way stiffer, you feel every little imperfection on the pavement, that's for sure. Being 6 feet tall, I opted for the Large size, it has good geometry and the wrists rest nicely on Bontrager Satellite IsoZone Plus grips. My old bike had a numeric gear display, it was kind of handy, this one has none, so you have to shift up and down to find the sweet spot. Overall, a good solid bike, no question.

      Great question Shajee and thank you for asking. As it concerns tires: as long as the tire size does not exceed the maximum allowable size, you will be okay.
      You also want to be mindful on the minimum tire your rim will safely allow as well. Too small and the tire may roll off the bead while cornering.
      My best example is this: I have a set of 2.1” Maxxis for my 920 when I gravel ride and a set of 38mm Maxxis when I ride the road or canal system.

      @GetOutArizona  2 года назад

      Joe, this is an excellent question, and thank you for asking. please bear with me while I answer. I do believe in this circumstance, better is a bit more subjective, and here is why.
      The 1x10 tops are an 11-46 and tops out at an 11-50 if you swap it out. This can still be problematic in some inclines, or series of inclines, with a 40t upfront.
      However, the 2x9 cassette, 11=36 stock, can be swapped out for an 11-50 which vastly improves your range for unruly climbs.
      So as you can see, you do have options. I have bikes that are both one by and two by drivetrains. They each have their pros and cons and cons my friend.

    I just looked at the (21) 3 and it was 2 x 9, not 1 x 10

      Hey Cheeky, thank you for watching and asking such a great question. The 2022 Trek Dual Sport 3 is indeed a 1x10; see the link below.
      www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/hybrid-bikes/dual-sport-bikes/dual-sport/dual-sport-3/p/35104/?colorCode=black
      Indeed you are correct, though; 2021 was a 2x9. Trek made the change for 2022 to differentiate the FX2 and FX3.
      I hope this answer/explanation was helpful.
