    Thank you for providing a better breakdown and explanation on what is the same and what is different! I haven't biked in about 20 years, but want to get back into daily biking as I did in the past, as well as ride the occasional fairly easy offroad trail with my kids. I was having a hard time understanding the differences using the comparison tool on the Trek website, and you broke it down perfectly so I could understand. I will be getting a DS3 as I want less gear changes, less weight, more stability, and I have a bit more of a budget. My concerns of wasting extra money has been alleviated. Lastly I will be buying from my local bike shop as I've already been by and they can order it and assemble it! Thank you again!

    If you’re looking to commute or trail ride $200 for a carbon fork is a no-brainer. Plus the shop setting up the DS3 tubeless will also help support a much nicer ride feel.
    If you’re trying to get into cycling you’re way better off getting the bike for those alone, because it’s feel so much more pleasant to ride.

    I just bought a DS2 Gen 5 and it's a nice bike except for the chain suck problems. Lots of times shifting from the front big sprocket to the smaller sprocket, the chain will jam in the crankset. Took it back to the shop and they tried a few things like adjustment, changed the chain and changed out the crankset. none of those had an effect. The chain would still jam. They put together another bike and the same thing happened so it's an issue with the bike it appears. they just ordered a new and better crankset for it and I'm waiting to see if it makes a difference. Trek is doing this for warranty work.
    The bike has been in the shop three times longer than I have owned it.
    I guess I should keep riding my 1982 Raleigh boat anchor as it doesn't have really any issues except comfort, weight and doesn't stop very well.

      @@bighes100 a 1x does not compromise much range or speed if you have a well chosen cassette ratio at the back, which this one looks to have. It’ll be pretty easy to get up the steepest hills, and unless you are bombing it down the other side you won’t need to worry about the top end. 1x are more user friendly, the shifting is easier and there is less to go wrong from a maintenance perspective. If you are just a leisure and basic fitness cyclist then 1x is a no brainer, particularly if you’ll be riding off road or on bridleways / dirt tracks, which is what this bike is more geared towards and capable of as compared to the FX models of hybrid bikes which Trek does.

    The Gen5 dual Sport looks like a great. I wonder though, what happened with the Verve lineup? It seems Trek made a 2023 Dual Sport and FX but forgot about Verve. It seems for Verve, only the electric bike was released for 2023 but what about the non electric version? A refresh for the Verve lineup should have been released already. I wonder if there are plans for a 2023 or 2024 Verve. I think the Gen 5 dualsport should have been what the Verve was supposed to be since they now feature rigid forks. The DS3 seems interesting though as the carbon fork combined with the 27.5x2.0 tire kind of makes up for excluding the suspension fork, absorbing those bumps at the front.

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  Год назад +1

    Which would you pick between the 2023 DS3 Gen5 or the 2023 FX 3? Both are the same price, and both have a carbon fork, so I'm wondering if the DS3 Gen5 would be a similar ride to the FX 3, albeit the DS3 Gen5 has wider tires. Would the DS3 Gen5 be that much smoother than the FX 3?

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  Год назад +1

      The FX 3 will be less comfortable and faster, while the DS 3 is a bit more comfortable based on the riding position and wider tires, but it’s also a bit slower because of the smaller tire size. I’d pick the FX 3 if I wanted to mainly ride on the road and go faster, but the DS 3 if I wanted to ride more off-road

    • @TheKos2Kos
      @TheKos2Kos Год назад +1

      I disagree with this RUclipsr's reasoning. Yes the fx 3 is faster on the road...but its not a serious difference. I'm getting the ds 3 simply because it's easier to carry gear on it. The ds 3 has similar carrying capacity features to the fx sport...like a clean head tube with tucked in cables so you hang a handlebar bag more easily. But the ds 3 also let's you put both a rear rack and a rear fender at the same time unlike the carbon frame fx sports. FX 3 has similar carrying capacity to the DS 3, but the FX 3 doesn't have the option to add the top tube frame bag like the fx sport, gen 5 ds, and checkpoint

    I'm a mountain biker and currently ride a Trek Fuel EX 8 but am looking to add a hybrid bike to my lineup to ride on pavement and light trails for training purposes on days when I'm not actually mountain biking. I'm looking for speed! Is the DS2 noticeably faster on flat terrain than the DS3? I'm used to higher end components (Deore XT) and wonder if those on the DS2 will disappoint me or not. Also, is the Dual Sport suitable for touring? Thanks!

    I purchased 2 dual sport ds3 gen 5. i ride every day and wanted a backup bicycle in case one goes down for maintenance. to me the only one worth a dam is the ds3

    If the frames are essentially similar, what causes the DS3 to be so much lighter than the DS2? The wheels?

      It’s mainly the carbon fiber front fork in this case but the wheels are a bit lighter, drivetrain is a bit lighter too I believe.

    Why would I buy the DS2? I’d rather compromise and save money and go with the DS1 or go all out and get the DS3

    Great Video, isn't the new Dual Sport Gen 5 now with the rigid fork very similar to the Trek FX now, the only major difference being the tyre width

      And geometry - FX offers more agressive position
