Thank you, MG, so much for this wonderful conversation. What a beautiful room and collection of books, too. My own 'library' looks very like this. I am sure most book-lovers' rooms do too, not like the manicured rooms of the average 'book-tuber'. I've subscribed and will be watching all your videos until I've seen them all.
A beautiful story about Blake's Songs of Experience being lent to Coleridge... and Coleridge NOT writing in the margins! And more insights into the meeting between the two great poets.I enjoyed the insights and the historical background. Glad I dropped by.

So glad that you admire Blake and Coleridge, the latter being a favorite of mine. I stayed in his so claimed house in Somerset a few years ago in the blue room which was his bedroom. I swear in the night I was visited but not in the form of a phantom ..but…in lines of poetry 😄😉

I like your channel Malcolm, I could happily live in your library, an imagined alcove deep beneath the subway, the muggles above going about their business as the smoke from your pipe lingers in the tunnels... there's just something in my DNA that has an aversion to the church, a bloodied shadow that has been haunting me for centuries, even at noon it's like an anchor about the Sun
Thanks Bill, I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel. I understand, and in many ways I share your aversion to the dark shadows the institutional church has sometimes cast, but not even the sins of his church can turn me from the healing light I see in Christ himself

with " the Church " - as you call it ?? You really ought to be beyond that stage by now !!
There is the institution of the Church &
then there is Christ Consciousness
Dr. Guite: could you- would you dedicate a video to share your thoughts on “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell” (in contrast to Lewis’ “The Great Divorce”) - along with some reflection on the influence of Jacob Boehme?
That would be such a blessing- as your life and creative, imaginative ministry have been to me and many so far.

Coleridge's evaluations of the Blake poems may be found in G. E. Bentley's The Stranger from Paradise: A Biography of William Blake (Yale 2001), pp. 351-353; see also p. 133. Coleridge used symbols meaning "It gave me great pleasure," "still greater," "and greater still," and "in the highest degree" (but also "in the lowest"). Bentley summarizes: "All the poems which pleased him best were from Songs of Innocence"; but "The Tyger" "perplexed" STC. "In Blake's darkest days, the praise of such men as Coleridge must have done much to mitigate his odd humours and to show that there were some in England who had deep feeling for high art."

On the shelf behind you to your left, about four books to the right (from the viewer's point of view) of Piranesi -- is that William Vaughan's Samuel Palmer: Shadows on the Wall (Yale 2015)?
Whether it is or not, I'll urge anyone interested in artist Samuel Palmer to borrow or buy a copy -- this is a very good source for studying reproductions of the art of Palmer, who as a young man was a disciple of the elderly Blake. -- about ten years after the Coleridge-Blake meeting(s?).
Hmm-- now I'm not so sure about whether the Coleridge-Blake meeting(s) came about "about ten years" before the period of the Ancients, the young artists including Palmer.
yes, I love Palmer's work, and will have to do a spell in the library about him sometime
Sorry to bother you. I was wondering how someone could get that stone rubbing as I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Am I to assume you can visit the church and attempt a stone rubbing. Love the content on all your videos. A converted pipe smoker and book reader due to you, so thank you.
thanks, you used to be able to get them from the church if you visited, but I don't think they have any of them left. Perhaps they should be encouraged to make some new ones

Hopefully I will get to attend one of your events/lectures in the coming time. Do you have any dates for future appearances? I live down in old Woking Surrey so hopefully you may do something locally. Love all your thought provoking content old and new. I have your book the mariner arriving some time tomorrow so I will be glad to add it to my collection. Thank you

Once again, thank you, as always. A request ... can you help me? I have always loved Coleridge's works but - forgive me! - always considered Blake to be ... weird (to put it mildly!) - possibly a combination of ignorance and prejudice on my part - so that I find it hard to understand why people talk of Blake as a Christian (now a type of spiritual arrogance on my part). Can you point me in the right direction - a book, a talk, whatever - that will put me on the path to better understanding? Please?

There's no evidence (if you want to call it that) except the vaguest ref. by Tulk in a letter. Neither Blake nor Coleridge write of it--(you would think they would)--nor mention it to others in their circle. Why would Tulk not give details of the event? As a Swdenborgian, perhaps he was writing of his own vision of the two talking via their spiritual selves? It's nice to imagine that a real meeting happened, but the Tulk ref. is not nearly enough to hang a jot of scholarship on.
perhaps the evidence of their actually meeting is slight, but we do have some commentary from STC on Blakes songs of innocence and experience as lent to him by Tulk, so there's a connection for sure
