DISCLAIMER: Some tips are very vague and my personal opinion so please don't take them too seriously.
Lmao. I am so glad the "weird sexual noises" with Vanille was pointed out.. because that led to an awkward moment for me.
You see, I always had Vanille and Fang in my party (on top of Vanille's awkward sexual noises, Fang's dialogue in battle can also be interpreted strangely).
Anyways, I took a break from playing and when I stepped out of my room my brother approached me and was like "if you could please turn down the volume of your strange lesbian porn, I would appreciate it".
Sarah Mackay hahahaha. Did you tell him it was your game and showed him how weird it was.
Just gotta embrace the weird, mate.
Excellent lmao
hah! Did that really happen, Sarah?
Sarah Mackay LMFAO
"weird sexual noises"
*vanille's annoyed face*
yep. that's correct.
Matthias Farron oh my.
If i could choose beetween a game with twice the annoying sexual moans or a game with twice the Snow abuse, i'd go with the moans.
My uncle once walked in and asked me what I was playing, I told him it was final fantasy, he didn't believe me.
Matthias Farron hey I love vanille
Flawlessice lol really
I knew there was a reason I liked you. I was beginning to think I was the only one that liked Final Fantasy XIII
GarrickkTheGreat me toooo
I love 13
I honestly want a mod for 15 that changes the party into 13 characters, they gave us the blazefire sabre so that's one job already done :3
You’re not alone man. I love FF 13.
I liked it, but it was a guilty pleasure. Personally, I think out of the main 13 (not 10-2, 13-2, lighting returns and 11 and 14 here)
13. 3 (terrible in a good amount of way)
12. 12 (disappointing and boring but I had some fun)
11. 2 (too difficult)
10. 5 (satire but I like it)
9. 13 (like it but I can see why people hate it)
8. 1 (difficult but fair)
7. 15 (so good but shouldn’t have been made from versus 13)
6. 9 (most underrated)
5. 4 (love it but I prefer the others)
4. 8 (also love it. But I don’t remember much of it)
3. 7 (other 2 I think are better)
2. 10 (everyone knows why)
1. 6 (everything good and everything works)
"l'Cie's focuses are never really crystal clear"
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE
Which is why when you Make your Focus Clear you get to become Crystal.
Of course, the focuses for them were intentionally unclear because if they were told outright, they'd refuse. They were being manipulated.
Ehh 😏
I'Cie what you did there. 😆
hahahah ohhhhhhh
Back in 2010 before I was a Final Fantasy nerd I was working on a story about a war between two planets close to each other, instigated by robot gods who treated humans as pets/pawns and a woman lead a resistance with 5 other people.
It was scary when I played FF13 and figured out what the F was going on.
Just goes to show you that nothing is original anymore. There are too many brains on this planet for anyone to have an original ideal. No matter how bizarre of a thing you come up with, someone out there is having the exact same ideal.
***** Thing is, we can only imagine what we've seen. No one can visualize a color we can't see. No one can imagine a sense we don't have. But the thing is, you have to go with your subconscious mind when you're writing, from my experience. Not many people ever have the same dreams, so sometimes you have to tap into that.
i like your hair.
DavidtheWavid Ik I'm late but at 1 point in life I thought about a new GoW weapon that was like the Blades of Chaos except a scythe kind of tip before GoW 3 was released so I was like WTF when I saw the weapon.
@@HarryBillyBobGeorge that's called the morphogenetic field
You are a very funny person.
im glad i found this game
same
i meant channel, oh well
i still meant the same thing about both the channel and the game
HellStorm Reaper yes i agree with both im glad i found ff13
I enjoyed 13, but I understand why a lot of RPG and FF fans don't like it. I grew up on RPGs and fighting games. But as I've gotten older, I've gotten less and less patient with things, including games. Nowadays, I like action and fighting games, things I can get into quickly and start actually playing something deep without wading through menus and spending tons of time assembling equipment, juggling job abilities and various other pre-battle stuff.
13 appeals to people like me, obviously not the typical RPG gamer, at least not anymore. I've grown up on RPG gems like Chrono Trigger, FF6 and 7, Vagrant Story and Xenogears but most RPGs these days are too tedious for my tastes (those classic games were actually pretty straight forward and didn't have too much micromanaging, with the exception of Vagrant Story which had a lot of menu time). Exploring can be a hassle for me, walking around an area looking for something or someone, whereas actually combat is brief moments here and there. I didn't mind the linear nature of 13, since I'm not too concerned with exploring a big yet ultimately empty town with NPCs that say a bunch of stuff I don't care about and isn't even very important (yes, I'm sure your apple pie is delicious, lady). I just want to get to the fights and story moments.
13 was a great game for a certain type of gamer. Unfortunately for Squaresoft (I'll always call them that), they pissed off a lot of their fans even though a few like myself were satisfied. 15 looks like it'll be a game for both hardcore RPG fans and action gamers like myself.
" I've gotten older, I've gotten less and less patient with things,
including games. Nowadays, I like action and fighting games, things I
can get into quickly"
SAME HERE
Same. Spot on with that exploration.
Besides, FFXIII was the first one to try. I was glad it was linear, almost felt like I'd be overwhelmed with back tracking, exploration (sandbox style) etc etc. The good thing is it got me onboard with other JRPGs thanks to this game. Win- Win
Funny cause this was the hardest Final Fantasy game until VIIR
I think it's interesting about how the people who complain about how it doesn't pick up until later on are the same people who suggest an anime and when you don't like it after a few episodes they go "NO IT PICKS UP IN LIKE, SEASON SIX YOU HAVE TO KEEP GOING ZOMFG IT GETS SO MUCH BETTER."
Don't worry, I think it doesn't pick up at all
Anecdote, not fact
"so you play as these six losers." if i had taken a drink of coffee when you said that it would have been sprayed all over my screen and keyboard.
"sazh has haste, sazh has haste, sazh has freaking haste"
lmfao this is awesome my friend and I always feel like we are the only one in lobe with the series but this video proves people understand us.
this one video has made me subscribe good Shit @superbutterbuns
Gotta say this convinced me to actually give XIII a go, even with multiple people saying its a skip. Thanks Chocobae.
I started it and dropped it shortly after getting magic, because one of the bosses was a major difficulty spike. Came back later and had fun with the rest of the game. Just be prepared for that moment when mindless auto-battle stops working.
for everyone who says 13 is the worst in the series
I'd like to hand you a copy of Final Fantasy 2
Captain Karnage That "no level up" system just sucks. Oh my god, that thing stinks so bad it hurts. (Although the idea behind it was kinda nice)
Captain Karnage It's not ha absolute worst, but it started a slew of really shitty sequels
Cesar Weizegger you don't think so? Well, that system just created a bunch of people punching themselves in the face to get stronger and more hp. If that isn't the definition of "stupid", I don't know what else is haha
Also, now you caught my attention. What "shitty sequels" are you talking about?
13-2 and Lightning Returns. One is about how amazing lightning is and how she becomes god. The other is about Snow and Serah. I hated them.
When I said "it's not the absolute worst," I was referring to XIII
Cesar Weizegger oh, right, those just turned out to be "press buttons the fast as possible and create the right paradigm", right?
Although I've heard some people saying that XIII-2 and Lightning returns are a better game that the XIII itself
Am I the only one who thinks that the path is linear because the lcie dont have any choice and are left with one path to go. no? okay..
+Tori Chan You're not alone
+Tori Chan Well you play as fugitives on the run from some kind of powerful and oppressive regime who wants them dead in pretty much every Final Fantasy game, (or at least the ones that I've played) so the whole L'Cie thing isn't exactly new territory for the series. Also, isn't the whole point of FFXIII's plot to show that you can defy destiny and follow your own path or something?
+Tori Chan I've been saying that since it came out. It made perfect sense to me, a design that to me was genius, lol. So I was laughing while everyone else was bitching haha
+Swagbito Uchiha Even if it's clever design, linearity doesn't really mesh well with RPG mechanics. All it does is sap away from potential world building. And having the game start off by railroading you doesn't leave a good impression.
+Tori Chan One way to make the gameplay at least *seem* a little less linear moment-to-moment is to turn off the in-game map. It simplifies the environment a little too much; without it, your mind actually has to examine the environment.
3:13 "Ya go straight and ya win" I laughed too hard at that
this game was my childhood and my first ever final fantasy that i got to play on my own.
The Trashman same here man like omg ao much hate in this game like leave it alone
The Trashman mine too
Mine too uwu!! I love it even with all the hate ( i didnt know who cloud was if i didnt search the other games after beating xiii xd)
its been 5 years. what else game did you play and love it?
WTH!!! I love Final Fantasy XIII and everyone's throwing their negative reviews at it! It's beautiful, has a great soundtrack, and a unique combat system. I just think it's really stupid how people are hating on it because it's different from the other Final Fantasy games. Ugh
Brinley Triggers Me It's because the game is just a big tutorial, that always holds your hand. Doesn't allow party leader management until the VERY END. It's just RIP scenario for an FF game.
get rid of the ff name, and its an amazing game for what it is,its a great entry point for ff first timers, and the story is great if you understand it
rip to the days where humans were capable of reading context clues.
or is it just me who was never confused once while playing ff 13.
I was never confused either, I actually really enjoyed FFXIII, and it still surprises me that people keep hating on it. Beautiful Graphics as always, fun Combat System that I enjoyed with a strategic background AKA Paradigm Shifts for certain situations, being able to perform Chain Attacks was a nice touch and made this game hype and fun for me, and all I wanted to do was find an enemy, fight, grind, get CP, get money for upgrades, etc... The music was generally on point, and made the experience just that much more awesome. Doesn't matter if it was linear for the most part, a lot of games are linear as fuck, yet no one bats an eye and regards those games as gems...like dafuq?!
+xRKHxTakeru well.
square enix once said they couldnt bring some final fantasy games to america cos they were afraid itd be too complicated and hard.
perhaps there was some truth with the inclusion of an 'easy' bitch boy mode...
the story i loved immensely and the music even more. i could understand that itd complicated for those who don't enjoy a long narrative.
Well I really love to see that not all of Final Fantasy "fans" -im highlighting that
Carlos Ontiveros trying to get my younger brother to solve puzzles in games on his own took a long time everyone wants their media and solutions to be short sweet and easy.
Like morons.
But eventually he got into more complex games and learned to appreciate things the way i do and he admits, he never enjoyed anything as much before. Being invested to something changed everything to him
Its like books, If u only read Magazines you will never be able to understand nor apreciate books, cuz they are too "cumplex" and/or any stupid excuse people use. I loved the Game story, and by the date this have been the only game that have kept me awake till 5 AM just cuz I could not stop playing. The game made me Think stuff (about me, my friends, mi freacking life...) made me feel empathy for the characters (everyone hates Hope -dont know why, cuz lets be honest, if you would see your mom get killed in front of u, at THAT AGE, man, hope is a hero, I mean it, anyone else woulf be crying in a corner, he fougth till the end-) anyay, the game is so good that its one of my favs, no matter what people Think
I like what u did, I have a brother too and Tried to do the same (his tastes are different, but still pretty good) we dont need simple stuff to make us better. we learn the good things the hard way, thats why they are the good stuff.
Thank god this wasn't part of the huge "Final Fantasy XIII is shit" circle-jerk.
+Kenzie Alexander Was thinking the same thing.
+Kenzie Alexander but it kinda is ... it really is .... solid 6/10
+Kawai as Fuck 8/10
But Final Fantasy 13 IS shit.
And that's your opinion. Congratulations.
Im absolutely CERTAIN that Final Fantasy XV will, whether its good, bad or a masterpiece, get the same treatment that Xiii did. Final Fantasy "fans" are some of the worst gamers out there. Every FF fan will have that one FF game that "will never be beaten and all the rest suck!" Or my personal favourite "ever FF game since -insert title here- have been so bad!". Final Fantasy Xiii, like previous entries, took risks and tried new things. Its hard to believe but if you look back on when FF Vii came out, many fans of Vi were not happy with the game at all and quickly shouted thier disgust at all the cgi cut scenes and the "realistic" graphics during battles. FF fans are too hard to please.
Man, your post just renewed my hope in Final Fantasy fans. Thank you.
And, I agree, FF fans are the worst. :'( So much incredibly outrageous bias.
This. This is so absolutely accurate.
Fck The "fans" wouuuuuu!! nah realy fanbase sucks (i blame reviewers, ppl dumbness and trends o.o)
that's nostalgia goggles for ya
Most franchises' fanbase is terrible, just like how most people on RUclips are terrible. Humans are just generally terrible.
I just came across your channel and I really gotta admit that your videos are pretty nice! You, ma lady, earned a new subscriber. :D
“They use words that they expect you to understand” god this is the sediment of final fantasy 😂😂
My all time favorite of the Final Fantasy series. And Lightning being my favorite Female character for an action game. And has only now got competition with Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn. Though Milla Maxwell is a close second. I honestly didn't notice the "endless corridors" till it was pointed out to me because I was so wrapped up in the story and incredible combat. That Auto-battle AI was the best I have ever seen. And once you scanned the enemies it was perfect.
Lightning is my 2nd fave FF character second to Zack Fair
Sazh absolutely saved me multiple times with Haste. Gotta love the guy
I love your beginners guide series, in general. If I'm being honest though, I'm just watching this one cuz I'm trying to craft a one-shot to introduce my gf into dnd, since she's the fan of this game lol
Finally, one of the few people who can look at FF13 as it's own thing rather than comparing it to the others. It was my first Final Fantasy, and although I think 13-2 is better, I thought it was a good game. Linear games aren't awful and most games are linear. The expectation that games should be open world and have a million things to do is a heavy ideal when most j/rpg just want to tell a story (which usually leads to no room for open space lmao). Of course Thin hallways can be restrictive at least you have things to look at, and most of the time you're too busy fighting things to care. The Last of Us was basically hallways just with obstacles that trick you into thinking it's big, yet people (including myself) loved the game and saw it as a master piece. Final Fantasy 10 is also linear. Heck most Final Fantasy are linear by the looks of it. So it shouldn't have been such a big deal. The combat I get people having issue with bc sometimes it's slow, but people thinking it's button mashing only played the first hour and dropped it. The combat can get pretty complicated when you have to be switching paradigms before you're shit gets rocked (and even then sometime you don't switch fast enough and die anyway). People put a lot of pressure on 13, and didn't give the rest of the series a try and it's a little disappointing because the story and characters have so many feelings. Anyway, bless you for being able to see it as it's own game, and giving it a fair explanation. (PS I also love it when Snow gets punched, I love that he's barely in 13-2.)
Kagura95 Your first was XIII? No wonder you like it...
It being the first I've played doesn't have to be the reason why I like it. I played Pokemon since Red/Blue, and those ones are no where near my favorites.
Austin Eads it’s his opinion chill out you elitist
XIII had some good things about it, and some flaws, but I enjoyed it, personally -- more than I did the sequels, really.
If you ask me, some of the characters were worse than the game itself -- and those characters are the reasons I haven't played the game in so long; I can't stand to listen to them anymore. It sucks, because I used to love XIII.
Mostly positive reviews? People didn't think it's a bad game!? Which dimension am I in right now???
maciekx10 look at the reviews it mostly got eight's and stuff
She's not lying. A lot of the day one reviews were pretty positive.
Am I like the only guy who didn’t hate this game? Don’t get me wrong, it’s not FF6 or Tactics but I thought it was a pretty decent game with a strong story.
you sound so cool right now
Oh look, yet another fanboy couldn't stand changes in his beloved series, how cute
your review was really good. you took both sides of the pros and cons, but mainly focused on the game itself without getting crazy. thank you and I will subscribe.
Do Persona Q. Beary much appreciate it.
Wriime Entertainment oh persona q. what a nice, and yet sometimes annoying, game.
Wriime Entertainment I follow the bun on Twitter, and she doesn't have it yet. $50 is a lot for a 3DS game.
ah i see. and yeah its alot but it will keep you busy for many hours.
+Jan Fanfiction.net in video game form.
EdxSarxNatxChoc kinda. mix in sometimes unfair shit stopping me from playing on risky (last floor before boss) and a battle system which sometimes screws you over hard and you have it.
Thank you for actually fairly describing this game, it's not a BAD game on it's own merits.
Tyler Petty yes it is.
@@Hazztech no, it isn't. Bad FF game? Possibly. Bad game? No.
@@NaschAzure it's a horrid game, more or less objectively
@@Hazztech I found it ok. The linearity didn't bother me, but the writing did
@@NaschAzure well that's the issue. If the game is both linear, and the writing is bad, you're spending a lot of time grinding, and what you're grinding for is bad.
Fang, Lightning and Hope is the best paradigm setup! :D
I restarted this game because i still havent finished it and your description of what you run into “…freaking Serah, weird $exuAl noises…” absolutely SENT me and I’m in tears
would it be okay if you did final fantasy 7, as kinda wink, wink, nudge, nudge to it's recently announced remake :)
futurewarriorhero123 sooooooonnnn soooooooon shhhhhhhhhhhh
SuperButterBuns YOUR THE BEST MS.SBB XD
+SuperButterBuns soooo as someone about to play FF7 any chance this is coming soon?
Don't bother training Aeris/Aerith to much (unless you are an Achievement Hunter, than look up how to get her 4th Limit as fast as Possible). Grind. Look up how to get Vincent and Yuffie. Grind. Always Equip your Materia if you can so it get's CP (later there are Materia Slot's that give Double CP and some give none, look out for that!). Grind. Look up how to be chosen by the Don Connel when you "dress up". Grind. Use your Limit every time it is available. Some Limit's have 2 lvl. 1 Unlocks by Killing a certain amount of Enemies the other by using the Limit. Grind. That's all Important I can think of. And if you want a real "challenge" look up Omega and Ruby Weapon.
lol it's sad that your comment is 4 years old and it still hasn't been released... and it's being released in parts.
I didn't find the story confusing and I didn't read the text stuff.
-The Fal'Cie are god-like beings that manage Cocoon and Gran Pulse. They don't like each other.
-The purge is going on because the Fal'Cie don't want Pulse L'Cie near them.
-A Pulse Fal'Cie infects your group so you are forced to do their bidding. But Pulse Fal'Cie are unable to communicate properly to humans in any other way than images.
-Humanity is nothing but pets and cannon fodder to the Fal'Cie. When it came to the L'Cie thing the Fal'Cie began to experiment with people by branding them. The Pulse Fal'Cie branded the populace of Gran Pulse resulting in an invasion but also the inevitable destruction of Pulse's civilisation. That and putting impossible focuses on the rest (the missions).
-The Pulse Fal'Cie probably want Cocoon destroyed to kill its Fal'Cie. The Cocoon Fal'Cie want to talk to god and think killing millions of people at once will get his attention.
However with Gran Pulse there really is no goal but wander around.
Finally someone who knows about this stuff without confusion xd
I like Hope. He's my Baby. And Lightning is awesome for the sake of being awesome.
My mistake was playing Tales of Xillia while playing this game...
Story and character wise they're pretty similar. But Tales get's a one up for the fact that it feels bigger and free. (and you can revisit all the place you visited)
And that resulted to FF13 feeling like a chore to play through.
I finished both Tales of Xillia AND Tales of Graces F, before ever having the patience to finish FF13...
Picked this game back up and i enjoy it more now
"Freaking Serah." 😂
I remember this game level capping me at certain points in the beginning...
I love watching snow get clocked in the face
Paradigm was a great system. The linearity made sense for the location and the situation in the story. I never had problems with understanding the story because I like reading the Datalog. It’s there for that reason. The game was great and I embraced the changes they made. It’s so much better now on xBox1
My issue was story structure, Gameplay abit and the linearity to the extreme! But after playing FF X and XII Zodiac Age again during the lockdown! (The only two at the time I never got to complete back on the PS2 do to life issues and thieves stealing my copies before I got through the early game on them....and forgetting till the games got remastered on the Switch which I have) I gave this game a second look and well. Still not my favorite! It at least is higher up then FF8 (Still the worst of the bunch in my opinion! I'm bias to FF2 because I'm a "SaGa" fan boy) and just concluded the presentation was done poorly (Also helps that the elements I DID like in FF13 even when I hated it and labeled it the worst FF I played below FF8 showed up in FF7 Remake! Which further encouraged that "second look through" as well)
I will say that the Datalog was not the best way to convey many story elements, especially the way they structured story threads as they did! I do like me Lore sections like the Datalog. (as I'm a BIG Bioware fan....well as far as Dragon Age Origins and the Mass Effect Trilogy are concern! Anything after those games not a big fan of or barely tolerate in the case of Dragon Age's two sequels! Inquisition was okay, better then 2 at least) But unless your going "From Software: Soulsbourne", How FF13 did it was not the best way to convey a story (especially since those games best elements is not using too many cutscenes to convey story, ESPECIALLY compared to FF13). (I will also add that the visuals were good and the music was still the fucking best, maybe my favorite OST in the series overall seeing as I come back to this titles music! Especially all the battle and action scene soundtrack!)
Even before I gave it a second chance. I have a habit of doing "How to fix the story" in which I take elements of the original story and change them abit to make them work! I feel the director of this title was great at "FLASH" and the lore parts but TERRIBLE again as I stated with the structuring part! And some character's in the story got shafted for "reasons" When I also do "fixes" I take into mind the "THEMES" the story was going for and work around those! In 13 case it was about challenging fate and Destiny (Found it funny in a meta sense that the hallways had some symbolism! I did get that the point of the story was taking a shot at All powerful gods and the "Chosen one" trope! Though how they defied fate ) so I work them into the fixes! I also made a point of making Human Antagonists important (Cause come on the villain was one of those GOD machines as well! If Pulse Fal'cie can have their own l'Cie, then why wouldn't the villain ALSO have his own (Especially taking into mind he/it was working WITH the Pulse Fal'cie to make it all happen and made a big show of it too!) and the human antagonist (The three shown IN the story) were themselves l'Cie sadly trapped in a cycle of doing what Barthandelus told them, always frozen in crystal the moment they do and freed to do it over again! Given specific time limits and twist of twists! The whole "BS explanation of Focuses" is a lie the Fal'cie let get around or those Fal'cie lesser then Barthandelus and so don't have much sentience are the ones to give the confusing Focuses! Since they follow the orders of the higher ranking ones! The one that turned the party into I'Cie was so they didn't catch on too quickly the Barthandelus was manipulating them! Each of the human antagonists would be a Foil for the character they are associated with! Frankly they were them before and AFTER they were made Barthandelus I'Cie, but frankly being his hatchet men/women for so long and constantly making others suffer has taken it's toll that they given up or frankly in the case of Cid who'd be Lightning's foil! Attempt rebellion against faith in another way and not fully know if it would work out or not! (Hell I'd give Cid even more relevance by having HIM be a major factor in how the party were able to go back to normal near the end instead of "power of friendship" crap in the original! Rather then it being accidental, instead Cid was able to use the whole "Destiny is set forward for you and you can't change it" that Bathandelus forced on the party to instead be what saves them at the critical point! Completely ruining the Fal'cie final plan! And showing they don't have full control over faith then they like to think!)
Frankly those are some ideas I like to play around with. Frankly I only do this with stories I SEE potential in (A large amount being games I enjoyed the gameplay, but loathe how the story was presented, and those I do see could have been presented better! The Datalog is Homework and I don't think it was a good idea relying TOO heavily on homework to tell the story. Frankly you'll not get ALL the story unless you pay attention to the lore abit! I'm okay with that as it constitutes a second playthrough! Like getting ALL the Al Bhed primer's first playthrough, so in a second run you can now understand Al Bhed character's talking in their language, getting more info or making certain scenes make abit more sense! But most just want it done deal sometimes! So those have to be factored in abit)
why does everyone seem to not like snow or like when he gets hit. im playing the game and snow just seems like a nice guy who wants to save cocoon and protect serah he is just alittle dumb.
hes a little dumb and we love him. but he IS p useless as a character.
Eh. I still like him. He tanky.
DariusTheRat Well yeah he's not bad but poor guy... They made him seem more dumb in The World of Final Fantasy
Yeah, I don’t see how he was useless either. Guy has the largest HP pool in the game and was my Sentinel that saved my behind so many times during boss fights-especially near the end
He let inocent people died in the begining of the game. After that he still call himself a Hero, like nothing happen.
He is a really stupid character.
This is amazing, I'm glad I found this, I can't stop laughing X"D
One of my favorite FF stories and damn it's a visual masterpiece.
You may be the first RUclipsr who used "addictive" instead of "addicting". God bless you... GOD BLESS YOU!! 😭
Final Fantasy XIII is not bad at all, I really like it.
But when it's compared to previous Final Fantasies... *deep breath*
It could be a way better.
tbh I liked ff13 gameplay, ppl said it didn't let them think but I think it was just about enough
+goodgalbadgal You must be american with no real motivation or thought process, huh?
You should stick to facebook apps
The above comment is a year old - I understand - but let's remember to build an accepting community for all viewpoints (I'm talking video game, here. Don't over think things).
Did I personally enjoy this game? Not really. I hate Hope and a majority of his lines. Am I glad that someone else found some value in this game? Ya' darn tootin'. I especially enjoy listening to why someone enjoys something I don't.
getting nostalgic and watching some of your old videos as someone that is replaying ffxiii and DETERMINED to finish it, to anyone seeing this that’s a new player, I also agree a hundred fold:
USE SAZH!!!! do not know what i’d do without haste. my golden trio team is fang sazh and vanille (who goes CRAZZYYY with the de-buffs which she also gets early)🤞🏽
By the way, people say that this game is hard, but if you grind just a bit on each area you'll be fine,i only got killed against Alexander (Hope's Eidolon) and the First Barthandelus Battle
lmao first i thought uggh annoying voice but your humor got me and now i love your voice gonna watch all ya vids now keep it up
:(
You have to look things up in order to understand the story.
How is that not a failure of story telling? How. Please explain....
Bobby90 I know I'm late but in the menu is where the info is
You don't have to look it up, you just have to let things click. You see a scene and it takes place at this time, you put it at that time in the timeline.
I loved this game. Also Snow was my favorite character. I pretty much never took him out of my party if he was available. I do hate how linear it is but once you get to Grand Pulse you can do a ton of things and get lost doing all the things available there.
Don't care what anyone says. I loved all three of the FF13 games just as much as any FF game in the past. A lot people need to learn to embrace change instead of dwell in childhood nostalgia.
Gotta love the Sazh bun!
HAPPY CHOCOBO NOISES
Snow,useless??...well i agree, till chapter 10, he is actually pretty good being the character with the fastest animations, because oh my god does Lightning take a ton shit of time to cast Cure,my team is Vanille/Fang/Snow
+PabLoquillo P Until you get him maxed, Snow is all but useless. Unless there's a fight that specifically calls for a sentinel (of which Snow is nr1). For example, if you want to get the Growth Egg very early, Snow/Hope/Vanille using Death spam is the way to go. Other than that, even though he has a fast animation, he deals less damage.
If you're using Lightning as a healer in anything outside triple-healer, you're playing her wrong :< Best Ravager hands down.
+Richard Tønnessen Lighting, Hope*, Fang are really the best combo.
Even tho I maxed Snow, I really had no reason to use him. Fang is just a Sentinel, plus she is the best Commando.
Final Fantasy XIII isn't a bad Final Fantasy game, but it's mistake was being just that. A Final Fantasy title. If it was it's own series, it wouldn't have been tossed aside as "just a sequel" for Final Fantasy XIV and XV.
"Grind, grind, and GRIND" Yep... I learned the HARD way when progressing through this game, was pretty new to jrpgs are the time.
I know I trolled a lot of people in the past. And to all those I trolled, I am very sorry. I did have a somewhat compulsive need to always be right. It was wrong of me to cram my opinions down other people's throats. And you know what? You're right. This game isn't that good. I haven't even touched it in over 3 years, and I didn't even bother with the sequels. Another reason why I focused on this is because I wasn't old enough to play a lot of the cooler games (Mass Effect, Fallout, Elder Scrolls). But I'm older now, and I'm more open to everything. I'm completely aware that Final Fantasy isn't the only franchise out there. I'd really like to play Lost Odyssey and Fable (which really make me glad I chose the 360 over the PS3). And I've been dying to get Final Fantasy XV, but I've also hear great things about Persona 5, Nier Automata, and Horizon Zero Dawn, so I might get those games as well.
Always great to come back and rewatch these.
Also, I noticed there's a lot of hate towards Vanille, but let's be honest here. If you don't use her to kill the weaker giant turtles or to get the growth egg, you're really gonna hate grinding to level up a lot more after the game "opens up".
I maxed out all of my characters' Crystarium Points in their main role in Chapter 11 while in the wilderness of Gran Pulse BEFORE Dahaka. Now TRUST ME, YOU WILL NEED IT.
Haha that was the funniest line at 1:54
Good thing I happen to like Australians and weird sexual noises!
Snow isnt useless i used him as my main and only comando at times and hes a great sentinal. Later in the game fang can be used if you wanna switch between magic and physical attacks. But she isnt as good as a sentinal because she has lower health. Towards the end of the game sazh becomes kinds useless, hes pretty much just a weaker and slower lighting.
XIII was my first console FF, so I have a big soft spot for this game.
Finished it last year. Liked it a lot. Got 5 stars in all the missions. Had fun. Never to be used again.
After Dartigan ripped the plot apart, I don't quite feel we're on the same page when you say 'great story'. It's kinda all over the place, but that might only really become apparent on the second play-through or when viewed from an outside perspective.
+Seth Abercromby Oh, you mean like what XII did when they used Vaan and Penelo as a way to have an outside perspective on the real story of Ashe and Basch? The kingdom of Dalmasca among many others?
Yeah, FF13 really dropped for me, personally. Only redeeming quality was Sazh and how his character grew, which even now, as I support him, makes me think SE butchered his character. He bounced back and forth between being a jerk about l'cie, to a caring father, to a bit of a dickish old man, to comic relief, and finally just to a point where he's just like an NPC with a name.
FF13 is shit though... but my god if it the most beautiful piece of shit. Those graphics and particle effects at the time were amazing and still hold up very well
Coming to FF13 for the first time in 2023 and it's unique rhythm action spreadsheet combat is really refreshing and unique, good tips!
I really loved this game, i understand why people dislike it but it gets more hate than it deserves. already beat it like 3 or 4 times and i still feel like playing some more once in a while
"Pretty Hallways"
Oh, you mean FFX?
Isn’t that one The Water Game?
The games playing itself Jon....THE GAMES PLAYING ITSELF JON!
Final Fantasy 13 was an amazing game and one of my favorite final fantasy games.
On Chapter 11 of my platinum play through (in which I somehow *will* attain all achievements and max out all characters in this game).... Literally everything you've stated on here is correct. Chose starter weapons and upgraded them to the max, found newish ones that suddenly introduced Random Equipment abilities (Instant Chain anyone?), Vanille's moaning. Irritating from the first battle featuring her and Hope and indeed 80 hours in now.....
This video will be shared to all my pals just getting stuck into the world of JRPGs. Truly a proper starter kind of advisory for anyone to get stuck in.
Honestly XIII is my favourite FF. I love everything about it. The music, the style, everything, is just gorgeous. Plus Lightning is a queen and she can kick my ass any day.
It's a good game alone but bad in final fantasy terms but I love the characters even though snow is hipster seipher
Got to the 2nd disc and was stuck at too low of a level for the boss in a deadend corridor and gave up. Finally planning on restarting now that I got an old XBONE for free and that was a good refresher! Thanks for the vid
The RPG Battle System I want:
"Hit things until they die. Doing this gives you money and experience to level up with."
The RPG Battle System Square-Enix thinks I want:
"So you have this 360 degree guage that you have to fill up by rhythmically attacking enemies with different type of attacks. If you fill it up too much, your damage goes down. Once the gauge is filled up just right turn your controller upside down and shake it to summon your elemental helper assigned to your job class. There are 24 job classes so you can maximize customization, but the 12 coolest looking ones are useless, so if you pick any of them you'll continuously wipe 40 hours into your game until you look up a guide and find out you customized your party the wrong way and have to start over."
I'm playing through FF13 now. The combat is driving me CRAZY. I think from your video that this is just a temporary thing. It is very aggravating that I'm at this point where I'm basically running around only using support characters with only support roles available, and hey for some reason nobody can do physical attacks any more! I was doing just fine with Lightning, Sazh, and Vanille (although I would prefer to use Hope, it wouldn't let me). Then boom, here's just Sazh and Vanille. And Sazh no longer has the "Attack" ability. Nor does Vanille. Suck it. Then Hope shows up. He can't "Attack" either. It's all magic all the time and hey they want you to figure out how buffs and debuffs work, so play with your roles to use them or die.
If they'd just give me a fucking menu instead of letting me pick 'roles' and 'paradigms' and making me feel like I am trying to trick my characters into doing the things I want and crossing my fingers hoping they pick the right thing to do I'd be so much happier. I imagine they actually think this is more 'action oriented' and immersive. They're fucking WRONG. I spend every battle staring at my characters HP and the menu. I barely see the enemies or what is going on on the field. This wasn't a problem with Final Fantasy X which had an essentially perfect RPG battle system.
Git gud
Nice review. One important thing you missed, your paradigms get atb when they are not active, so you can do A LOT more if you time your switches well!
On a personal note, I prefer the Paradigm fighting system to ffx and earlier round based styles.
And please I would prefer for Vanillie and Hope to get hit before Snow, :C
ps. FF XIII-2 BEST ENDING and boys I will embrace the flame here!
2022 and this video is still amazing
I used snow as a tank, and he did the job well
Alright, you make many great points as to why XIII is not as bad as many believe, but still, my guide is just:
Refund game and buy something else. SMT for great gameplay, Persona for great characters, Dragon Quest for old fashioned, simple JRPG fun. Hell, if you need a pretty JRPG, get Xenoblade Chronicles, for god's sake.
gbrincks or just stop being butthurt when someone likes something that you don't. All I can say is that I'm so glad I didn't listen to you people.
GreySolidusSnake Mate, you're the only butthurt person here. If you like XIII, that's great. I wish I had too, after all I did buy it, I played it, I wanted it to be good, but in my eyes it did not meet expectations.
My proposal was simply that instead of using your money to buy a game that is Love It or Hate It, you could use it to buy one of the ones I recommended depending on what you want, but if you still want to get XIII, go for it. Maybe you'll love it, maybe you won't.
gbrincks that's what you should have wrote in the first place
GreySolidusSnake You're right, it's just that I had commented shortly after trying to play XIII again and, after realizing that no, I don't magically think it's better now and tried to wash down the salt with some Dark Souls. I was mad salty when I wrote that comment.
gbrincks funny for me it was the complete opposite. was getting mad at a dlc area in ds2 and rage quit when I just saw 13 sitting there and decided to pop it in and I had a very pleasant 50hr experience. the game isn't for everyone that's a fact.
Anyone here because of backwards compatibility for xb1
Played this game years ago and enjoyed it.
Replaying it now, honestly still enjoy it.
I like the characters I like the world I like the story.
I got into jrpgs in the ps2 era where they honestly were pretty linear, and linearity dosent bother me imo it tells more cohesive story.
Now on my second playthrough I'll be honest things make alot more sense this time around and therefore the game not explaining anything to me didnt bother me.
Where it took a couple chapters in my first playthrough to fully understand what they are talking about.
I also love the battle system, pretty arcadey, my second favorite battle system my first being FFX.
Also
Sahz is the best character in the game. Dude has my respect
Your commentary is great you had me captured from the beginning even though it’s not the video I was searching for lol keep up the good content
The FUCK you say bout' mah boi, Snow?!?!
**TRIGGERED** Angry Rant Time **Keyboard Crusading Intensifies**
Snow is easily one of my favorite characters in all of gaming and other media. I even cosplayed as him to my first convention... Otherwise, Snow was one of THE most useful characters on the roster. In fact, my core paradigms consisted of Snow, Lightning, and (ugh) Vanille. Snow is THE best tank. Lightning the best Commando, and the whore... **cough** I mean Vanille the best healer. Barring a few situations where I needed dual tanks (i.e. Snow and Fang), those three were my go to characters for when I wasn't doing damage and was just biding time. Otherwise, it was Sazh, Lightning, and Justin Bieber... I mean... "Hope". I very rarely used Fang. She wasn't a good tank, sabotage was useful only in certain situations where as having to Synergy was always good, and... I just flat out didn't care for her character... Less so Vanille, but Vanille was actually useful.
Snow (Sentinel); Lightning (Commando); Vanille (Synergist) - Front Bar
Lightning (Commando); Hope (Synergist); Sazh (Ravager) - Back Bar
These Paradigms only ever got switched up when a few bosses needed a little trial and error. Sometimes I DID need a Saboteur. But most times it was either I needed dual Sentinel for harder hitting bosses or dual Ravagers for when getting bursts wasn't a worry and Sazh (in all his awesomeness) couldn't handle the boss alone. But one thing was always clear. I would NOT have made it through the game without Snow, Lightning, or Vanille on my team because bow howdy did they save my ass from a wipe on more than several occasions.
listening to someone try to explain ff13's story is like listening to a crazy hobo on the street explaining the buzzing in his head comes from the alien elvis clones that are secretly working with the lizard men to, you guessed it, take over the world
err i think i actually just explained ff13's plot with that comment, hang on...
yes the story starts out linear, but after you reach gran pulse it opens up hugely, theres tons and tons to explore.
I loved this game actually, I thought it was really good haha Idk why people don't like it.
Not going to mention the fact that it has what amounts to a 40 hour tutorial because Squeenix thinks we're all idiots?
A friend of mine got bored with it right as it opened up on Gran Pulse, as he was sick of dealing with all the handholding. He wanted to know if someone who had never played the game before could get a fix on the game's full fighting system, so he gave me a very brief tutorial (as in, like two minutes' worth), and three minutes after that, I was kicking ass and ignoring names.
Five minutes and I had it figured out. We're not idiots, Squeenix. Don't treat us like we are. We've played games before.
XD Stahp, why can't we love Lightning AND Snow? Leave Sarah's husbando alone. ~ But that Vanille, that's wifey material right there. 💕
I really liked this :) Huge fan of FFXIII !
+Dan Caracciolo Grats on being a fan of FF cancer.
getblunted4life hahahaaa thank you
Dan Caracciolo Glad you are able to accept it and laugh at yourself. Even toriyama admitted 13 was bad by trying to make 13-2 as an apology.
There's 2 things in XIII that I'd like future FF games to adopt.
1) a small amount of weapons that are each unique and useful in their own way. Maybe the upgrade system isn't all that great, but having 6-7 unique weapons instead of a new +1 bronze sword in each new town is just better. It just is.
2) dynamism in the TBS. It doesn't need to involve staggering or paradigms or anything like that, but make the TBS dynamic so that you are always on your toes even though you're playing a turn based game.
This is just hilarious. Also, FFXIII didn't do all that well because, well...people say things like "WE WANT INNOVATION" "DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT" and when game companies do it's all hissing and clawing cause "What? Change? I HATE THAT WHY DID YOU DO THIS"
The biggest problem with FF13 is the fact that the story is just sooo melodramatic. So much dialogue in this game makes me cringe that my second playthrough I just skipped it.
I will never understand how this game is linear, and it got so much flack. Yet Final Fantasy X was linear and is widely regarded as one of the series best...
FFX's soundtrack was done by both Nobuo Uematsu and Masashi Hamauzu (the FFXIII composer). In fact, Hamauzu was trained by Uematsu while on FFX so that he could take lead as an FF composer.
I know that. My point is that it's not like Hamauzu isn't just some random new guy they hired for FFXIII. He had experience with the series prior to XIII and, according to an interview, had been a longtime fan of the series since FF3. He has a basis, was my point.
And in terms of the difference, yes, Uematsu and Hamauzu are quite different, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The way that Hamauzu composed FFXIII seemed quite fitting given the tone and themes of the story, and each major track fits perfectly together in the soundtrack. I find all the songs in FFXIII very memorable, personally.
It's all a matter of opinion at this point, and I'll just have to respectfully disagree. One thing I do love about the FF series is that there's an FF game/OST/story for every kind of gamer :D
Every Final Fantasy game is linear as well.
You can go back and forward to get more stuff for your chacter so do it more and you can get stronger
I ran into some crazy trouble with this game and I haven't played it in years and I've been wanting to. So thanks for the tips and strats, and your welcome for the one new subscriber (as minuscule and as small of a contribution that is to your gaming tipping greatness)
I hate this game. The story like you said is pretty decent, but the linear gameplay killed it for me. I've ended up playing the first 10 - 15ish hours about 3 separate times and I just couldn't finish it. I have a weird love-hate feeling about the battle system and Hope's character is one of the most annoying characters in any game I've played. In all of my playing I still never made it to the point where you have all the party members available and the predetermined party was very tedious. I wish I could've forced myself to finish it, because I like the majority of the characters and the plot, but the gameplay just killed it to me.
The minimap is for the americans that cant figure out which direction down the hallway they were meant to travel.
I was able to go in the wrong direction even with the mini map because I had just finished a battle and forgot which way I had come from XD it took me like 10 minutes to realize i was going the wrong way.
The Promise (title screen music/Serahs theme but instrumental) makes me cry every time aH
Binge-watching SuperButterBuns here since I just 'discovered' her :)
Great (and funny as always) video about FF13's mechanics. Not sure if FF13 needs a beginner's guide (since the first 15 hours or so serve as a tutorial anyway), but a fun watch with some good insight nonetheless :)
Personally I loved FF13. Sure I see it has issues, but my goodness is it pretty in sight and sound (easily the best looking FF ever imho), and the combat system is super fun and addictive. These days it's also rare to see a game that's as polished to a shine at release as FF13 was (at least on PS3): Essentially bug-free, no hitching or stuttering, fast loading times throughout, hell even the menus look and sound gorgeous. I mean, like the game or not, but this level of consistency in sheer quality of production just doesn't happen often anymore.

Final Fantasy 12, great game with many haters.
