Pretty much my experience. I played Birth by Sleep first and was like "Oh no I actually like him" and then I played Crisis Core and my heart was shattered even more. I already knew from FF7 that he was dead, fell in love with him in Birth by Sleep, because how can you not, and then actually got to know him through hours of Crisis Core.
That end broke me and I can still remember years later just how painful that was.
Literally playing the FFVII Remake knowing the fate of some of the supporting characters and dear Christ the tears... So many tears

Square Enix released their own Sadness Trilogy on the PSP in the form of Crisis Core, Birth By Sleep and Type-0.
Didn't they all three have the same director as well? I know Crisis Core and Birth By Sleep were directed by the same person

Definitely cried more because of these games than any of the main games tbh. Maybe had a little tear in my eyes for certain main game series games but Crisis Core especially fucking broke me.
I knew Zack had to die but damn I didn't think I kind of had to do it myself or be all up close and personal while it's happening. I tried so damn hard to somehow safe him but of course that didn't work and I can't remember to ever have cried so damn hard and much for any fictional character. That on top of all the other characters and my heart was in pieces for days.

Protip to avoid random battles in sidequests: Stick with the wall.

Zack is also the only Character who is on SOLDIER first class level without jenova cells...so yeah...pretty badass
Yeah, I think all soldier are infused with Mako. Since that's how they're so strong and one of the reasons why Cloud was more affected by Hojos experiments than Zack. Cloud was pickled in Sephiroth/Jenova cells.
I know this comment was from two years ago, but anyone who is in SOLDIER has been injected with Jenova cells even Zack.

I have a question for you all.
Would you say Zack became a hero?
Well, if you look at the classical idea of a hero: saving the life or livelihood of others often at great personal cost, then yeah. It's interesting. In the beginning of the story, Zack's expectation of being a hero was the somewhat childish/shallow idea of fame, glory, and accolades, but by the end, he's become the more mature, altruistic idea of a hero, almost a Jesus figure type of thing. For that reason, I always thought of this game as being a coming of age story. *spoilers* The Zack at the beginning of the game would never have went off to die like he did at the end, because it would mean he wouldn't be a hero, but at the end of the game he does and he's satisfied because he understands what being a hero really means and the end was his chance to be one. To this day, I'm pretty thoroughly convinced his death at the end of the game was basically a suicide, so he could die a hero's death and give cloud a new life, because it was the only chance he would ever have to be a hero anymore.

A hero for who ? I mean, you could argue the hundreds or so families mourning for the troopers he destroyed before he was killed wouldn't agree. All of this is subjective. 8)

I still cry listening to "Why"
I do too. I played crisis core as a kid and went through the story like 10-12 times. That ending though always gets me all teary eyed.
It's the violin song "Price of Freedom" that does it to me. It plays as you're forced over and over to make Zack fight the hoards of Soldiers, knowing he's dying. You still have to push on, watching as his swings become slower and he's shot more. The song plays at various other moments but it's at that moment we hear the full thing, it's full weight.
However, when I hear "Why?", it brings to mind probably the cutest and saddest thing in the entire FF7 series. Upon finding Zack on the ground, teenage Cloud drags himself over and gives him the most heart-breaking, adorable blue-eyed puppy look, like his innocence was just shattered. We know how Cloud becomes afterwards so it hits even harder.

Crisis core is an amazing psp game! This, KH birth by sleep, and msg peace walker really showed off what the psp was capable of and still blows my mind today. It sucks this game never got released on the vita ps store or get a HD re-release because I feel like this game didn't get as much attention as it deserved. I'm sure it sold a good amount though.

@@ConfusedSora It's because he's still in his early days at SOLDIER. Though, I do understand your confusion. When I played KH Birth By Sleep, I had NO CLUE who he was, but I was determined to defend him no matter what he did, because he's a precious little snowflake who deserves all he desires, and shouldn't have died the way he did.

whats funny is this was my first taste of final fantasy 7 i never played the orignal before playing this so i think this made the game more hard hitting for me
Yeah same idea for me. I knew about the final fantasy games because my dad had them, but never played anything related to 7 until crisis core.
Same here. This game is really twisty if you haven't played 7 or know about it. You have no idea Shinra is bad, Sephirot goes bad and Zack goes ded.
my stages:
1: saw the movie ffvii advent children.
2:saw crisis core.
3: saw the ffvii original
4: found more final fantasies.
5: spent hours paying attention to the plot of final fantasy VII and finally understands it.
6: found a release date for final fantasy XV.
7: waits.
8: plays FFXV everyday since arrival.
9: makes final fantasy my religion.
(also not Axel from kingdom hearts is my fave :3)

Final Fantasy XV came out at the perfect time when I was going through my own "learning to become a man" story so that game hit me too hard on the heart feelers
This is exactly what happened to me. I never played any of the ff games because I didn't have a ps but I watched all the walkthroughs for ff7, Crisis Core, ff8, ff x amd f x-2. Two years ago I finally bought a ps4 and ffxv. Now I'm excited to play the remake!

Cloud is seen by many as a cool guy, maybe because at first he has this aura of indifference, however Zack is a better guy in my opinion because instead of being edgy he's a go-getter and always stays true to himself.

Hey the entire game follows this line "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself to become a villain" (Zack died for Cloud and Sephiroth became the villain after being a hero)
When I watched a play-through. I thought I was going to hate Zack...Boy I was I wrong

Zack truly is the best boy.
Being my first exposure to Final Fantasy I treasure this game till this day. I admit I bawled my eyes out after finishing it, "where were my tissues!?" Even after playing it a few years later I still cried. Truly a gem of the PSP era and well deserves a recommendation for any who haven't played it yet.
The first ever that made me cry.
I remembered I had to hide in the toilet to drown myself in tears. As my baby zack get teared to shred by machine guns while having flashbacks of his friends and regreting his inabilty to keep his promise to Aerith.
I spilled hot coffee all over myself when she said "Oh my gooood....that bench was in the original game! :D "

Ah yes, *PIONTS OF NO RETURN*
The VII series story stands out to me for the reason that Game of Thrones does. It establishes really great characters that you come to empathize with and then kills them. Crisis Core did this even if you saw it coming. Angeal... Zack... Sephiroth in some respect... AND we get to fall in love with Aerith all over again just to remember what happens with her. I think the biggest punch to my heart in Crisis Core was actually that final phone call with Zack and Aerith. ...God I need that remake in my life.
If you plan on playing this game til the end, prepare a box of tissues. That ending is so gut-wrenching, and that's coming from someone who only played FF7 til the second disc.

That was me going into, too. Little kiddo me never got the chance to play the OG and me and my bro picked this game up because of the cool guy with the sword on the cover. We were both DEVASTATED at the end, and all of these years later we still haven't been able to bring ourselves to play the remaster. Man, this ending HURT 😭
So now Square is apparently throwing Crisis Core into a garbage can, and separating the FF7 Remake from the Compilation. rip zack's emotional scenes

@@flaviogomes Spoilers for the "remake", but you'll understand if you play it or look up the ff7 remake Zakk death scene. which i don't recommend if you wanna play it yourself, since it happens pretty late in the game, it's a big moment. Really it's not even a remake. It's a re imagining.

@@flaviogomes Feels kinda like some Chrono Cross stuff going on, doesn't it? lol I'm cool with it, personally. the old games and media will always still be there if this new take turns out to be garbage **SPOILERS* DON'T read if you haven't finished the game..------ I'm thinking that going forward from Midgar there's going to be bigger changes than just Biggs surviving sector 7 or the vision of Zakk surviving in an alternate world. I wanna see how this stuff ties into the lifestream and their world though because, as it stands, I get the feeling that they're trying for something meta and not 100% on board with that kind of approach. It was cool in Chron oCross, but ff7 universe needs to tie back to their world in an easy to follow way. Nothing too convoluted, ya know?

Was always partial to the darkness materia. Gives you a massive HP bonus if I recall and dose pretty decent damage.

Anyone back to this video when Crisis Core Reunion was released? Just started playing myself and wanted to revisit this video lawl.
Who came back with the announcement of the remake during the Switch direct?
Easily one of my favorite games ever, and it was what got me into Final Fantasy. I was the perfect age and at the perfect point in my life when I first picked up this game and it was the first and so far only video game to ever have a really deep emotional impact on me. I will adore this game till the day I die, no matter how mind-numbingly tedious the combat can be (especially if you're trying to 100% every mission).
Seeing, hearing, and reading other people's love for this game makes me so happy.
Zach and Sephiroth are the two greatest characters in fiction.

Zack was the true hero of Final Fantasy 7. Cloud was literally just the scrub.
Um....no. Cloud was a hero in his own right. Zack is THEE hero, but Cloud earned hero status.
Wasn't that the point of Cloud's character development? He went from scrub to hero by the end

I mean, the only thing that he affected and put a end to was Genesis, so...

Yeah, that worked out. Sure you'll go on missions where you only fight one kind of monster over and over with a ridiculously high encounter rate. But hey, at least there is a slim chance that you'll summon Bahamut right as you are about to swing your sword to kill the last enemy,

Cool thing to know, you can have 9999hp really easily and at the early game with just the fusion system (without using any item)

I think it was a reference to a Zero Punctuation video.
What do you mean "how"? The only reason you would say how is because you haven't played or seen literally anything about it ever aside from the name, because anyone ELSE would obviously understand that he's referring to the fact that Okami's whole structure is almost identical to that of most Zelda titles, especially 3D ones.
