The optical illusion with the offset wood grains is like looking at an old 1960’s blacklight poster. You might dub it the “LSD Bowl!” 👍🏻🤣
The use of the wenge grain is beautifully done. Making a vortex effect as the zebra wood transitions into it is absolutely stunning. One of your best. Is this the effect you were looking for or was this a happy accident?
Beautiful work Andy as usual nethertheless.
Thankyou .. I was pretty sure they'd go well together but I suppose you never know what you're going to get until it's turned ..the wenge actually looks better without a finish ,I think the finish hides the grain a bit .. cheers

watched in amazement, what a Beautiful piece of work. thank you Andy
Such a beautiful piece, even if it does set my OCD off. And I love how the grain inside the bowl is working towards the overall effect.
Thanks ..
Clever piece! You have to imagine al the steps to get there up front. That's were craftmanship stands out over the DIY guys. Superb!
Oh wow ... the combination of these woods is spectacular. You’re using woods I’ve never even heard of ... beautifully done.
WOW!! How you came up with this is jaw dropping! This is a splendid and brilliant work of art! BRAVO!!
Very unique bowl...
Thanks for sharing....🙏
Cool!
Thankyou Maxim ..
I’ve seen thousands of wood bowls in my travels. You are a MASTER at your art. What is the secret of getting your hands and arms to move so fast almost insect-like
Absolutely stunning piece, it more artwork than woodwork your creating beautiful art xxxxxxxxxx
I love the really dark wood. Stunning. Part of the beauty of this one is while it’s spinning it looks like three different colors. This is my favorite piece of all I’ve seen. And you know I’ve been binging. 😆
Very cool 3D look! We’re only limited by our imagination...
Thankyou ..
Andy,
Great work as always. How many years have you been doing woodturning?
I admire your work so much. Such skills.
Thanks .. Did a bit of turning as an apprentice years ago just got back into it maybe 3 years ago ..👍
Very beautiful. Congratulations.
Thanks Vilson
bowls bowls bowls... can't you think if something else to make?
I'm sick of these bowls and vases.
Andy this is a stunning bowl when you look I to it, it feels like you are drawn into the bowl. The grain is breathtakingly beautiful, what kinds of wood did you use. Wow it is outstanding!!!
Thanks Kobie .. I used Wenge and Zebrano .. cheers
I added a lid from the light wood, in my case old pine, with a knob from the dark wood. Very effective
I'm not sure. It's missing something. Maybe a pedestal base of a lighter colored wood?
Another no nonsense video of work to a very high standard. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Peter glad you liked it ..
I love that bowl, but I feel sorry for the Zebrano. Couldn't you have used a less thick blank for the inlay or cut the blank in half?
Очень интересная работа и показ без лишних слов и движений
Nice work. Maybe more light shed on the scene would help better see it. Thanks
I think I was a Tree in a past life!
That is a serious bit of wedge, must have cost a fortune? But it was so worth it! Thanks.
AWESOME!!!!

Thanks Fred 👍
Well worth watching! Fantastic! Thanks
Thanks Kevin
FELIZ NAVIDAD AMIGO 🙏🙏🎅
You are an artist, Andy. Very nice, even if it did make me dizzy!
LOL thanks
Very cool! What’s the purple finish in the bottle?
thats Methylated Spirits also known as Denatured Alcohol
Thanks Chris .. JP has answered your question I use it to clean off before the finish goes on .. cheers
Is that the only finish you put on the wood? Is that what gave the wood such a deep finish and satin shine?
Hi Jane .. sorry I should have explained better I use the denatured alcohol to clean the peice then I used a friction polish and finishing wax ... thanks
Thanks Andy. It is beautiful.
Very unique. I've never seen anything like this. Excellent work.
well cool like the effect inside the bowl
Thanks John
Well you learn something new every day! I just had to Google wenge and zebrano to see what wood it was :)))
Absolutely exquisite piece of work..! 💛
An exceptional piece Andy. Nice choice of contrasting woods. This must have been in your "carbide" phase. I don;t remember seeing any more recent videos where yo made quite so much use of carbide cutters. Thanks.
Please Andy, add more new ones to RUclips, you do a great job of this, keep up your creativity.
I love how the grain makes the dark part of the bowl appear almost bottomless. Nice! 💜
You chose the exact wood for this project, very beautiful contrast and a perfect finish!
5 years already!
It looks great
Great!
Hmm. Glue two or more wedges of different woods together to make a flattish blank with diagonal borders through it, and turn that into a vase or bowl?
Crazy cool!
beautiful!
This is one of your best works that I have viewed,,, thanks!
That odd plastic tool at the start appears to take 4x longer than just using a ruler to strike the diagonals?
Great piece. This is the first time I've seen this video and I love the effect.
Magical!
You do great work, Andy!
Thanks so much Rick ..
very nice piece indeed
Thanks
Brilliant piece, love it.
Thankyou Rex .. Glad you like it ..
the many stages for this one are mind boggling
πολυ καλο εργο συγχαρητηρια φιλε μου ... αλλα μπορεις να μας πεις τι γυαλιστικο περνας...
Beautiful wood, beautiful workmanship and beautiful bowl.
Thanks for sharing the process Andy.
Thankyou Pete ..
That's amazing, so skilled and a beautiful result
Thankyou 👍
Absolutely beautiful work!!! I've only watched a handful of yours thus far, but this may well be my favorite I've seen! Good stuff, brethren!!!
Thankyou Brethren 👍
That’s an heirloom piece... wow... gorgeous... I love that you not only offset the wood but also the grain... stunning 😍
Thankyou 👍
Great idea, amazing piece as usual
Great project it really messed with my eyes
👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely stunning! Thank you! You are an inspiration! You make me want to better myself and do different and more challenging pieces! Thank you thank you thank you
Thanks for your kind words Gary .. I appreciate it ..
Class matey, surely though the spelling is “centre”.....👍👍👍🇬🇧
Lol .. thanks man ..you got me !! spellings not my strong point .. it's a bit like color !! get that wrong too ...
Nice work, beautiful wood, looks awesome😊👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Markus
You have a beautiful mind.
Lovely craftsmanship, I could watch wood turning all day long
Thanks 👍
Absolutely stunning! Curious, what was the purple kool-aid looking liquid you applied for the finish?
Thanks Ken ..it was Meths or denatured alcohol to clean off before finishing .cheers
Nice job. I find turning to be much more enjoyable and much less work when I use cutting tools instead of scraping tools, though.
I agree.. but my gouge ( or me ) was struggling with the wenge so I used the carbide to get rid of the bulk of the material ..cheers Chuck
First time I've seen this video Andy. Love this piece!! Question, what was the blue liquid in the bottle that you used?
I thought it was purple. I'd like to know as well.
Great job Andy, the effect is awesome.
Fantastic finish as well.
thankyou
Well done Andy. You did a cracking job. It's a different twist to the off-center bowl I was expecting to see. Hmmmm, I wonder how it would look with an off-center inlay and an off-center bowl done on 2 different centers; Something I'm going to have a go at.
Cheers,
Ben
Thanks Ben .. I think there is definitely some different option to try with this design ..My little lathe struggles with the off center stuff but new lathe arrived today so looking forward to tying some more like this and larger stuff .. cheers ..
Could you add some narration over the video and repost? This needs some explanation. Great job.
Thanks .. I haven't got my head round the talking thing yet ..maybe in the future ..cheers Tim. .
splendid piece !... love it...
Probably the coolest piece you have done so far! Just beautiful!
Thankyou 👍
Really, really nice, Andy. The color tones of the Zebrano and Wenge complement beautifully, and that really adds to the effect of the off center insert. And you matched grain direction, which gets a Hooray! from me :-) Clyde
Thankyou .. one of my main aims when doing these videos is to get a hooray from Clyde so I'm happy 👍plus I'm not putting this one on the shelf of shame ..phew !!
Hi Andy, Your work has got me hooked. I'll be looking to get a lathe, maybe a Jet, but what's the little red one you use?
Thanks .. It was an Axminster awls ..just a cheap generic hobby lathe..I'm sure you will have fun
I love this! Of course I’ll have to watch it again a few more times to get it figured out! Thanks for sharing!
LOL ..Thanks
Nice job on this one!
Thanks
These timbers go together beautifully and your eye for shape and lines finishes it off! Well done! Cheers Sean
Thanks Sean ..I was pleased with this one ..
A very nice piece. A great choice of timbers too. It's been a while since I've done anything off centre. You've inspired me to put my 'wonky eyes' in and come up with something.
Thanks Gary. . I've been wanting to do something like this for a bit but my little lathe doesn't like off center stuff it bukaroos around the workshop !!
That bowl is a trip man
Fantastic work Beautiful bowl well done. 👍👍
Thanks Kevin
Hermoso!!!!
Thanks 👍
What wood did you use in this combination? Because it's great
Thanks Anton ..It is Wenge with a Zebrano insert .. cheers
Браво! Именно асимметрия придаёт шарм.
Beautiful design and s fine bowl
Thanks
James
Thanks James
Um belo trabalho, com grau de dificuldade, não entendo como alguns não gostaram, parabéns.
Obrigado Ronaldo ...
Excellent job!
So beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Margery ..
Nice wood choice 👍
Ваауууууу!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks ..
Slow the speed when you are turning that far off centre.
That's as slow as the lathe goes , just upgraded I can now go as slow as I like ...cheers
Wow Andy, this piece blows me away!
Thanks Daniel 👍
Very, very nice!
Wow Andy that is stunning - looks cosmic!
Thanks Pamela 👍
I absolutely LOVE this bowl!
Thanks Shawna
awesome. Kinda makes the finished product look like an oval which is a pretty cool optical illusion.
If you don't mind me asking, what lathe have you got there? I'm in the market for one myself right now and yours looks like the sort I'm after.
Thanks ..the lathe is an Axminster awls .. cheers
Like it a lot
Very nice. What is the finish that you used on that?
Thanks Scott ..It was a friction polish
That is a classy looking bowl and very modern.
Enjoyed the turn.
Lee
Thanks Lee .. glad you liked it ..
