    Amzing piece. I've never seen oak with that much curl. Highly unusual for sure. Although,, you can tell for sure by the smell. Keep on, keeping on!

    Looks great, Daniel. Will the tung honey still soak into the wood after applying the sanding sealer? Looking forward to more from you in 2024.

    Looks great. I have a couple pieces of Oak like that; beautiful stuff yet very dense and hard. Rather intimidating to turn, I’ve put off hollowing the inside of one of the pieces until I felt more confident in doing hollow forms.

    • @TournageDubois

      I understand that wanting to be more confident. I bet you're gonna do a great job!

    Tool question- what tool do you use to extend the length of your forstner bits?

    Is beautiful wood - the vase is simple but elegant which I like. What do you mean by curling? Maybe point it for us newbies. ( February 2024 makes 1 year since getting my lathe for my 55th birthday)

    • @TournageDubois
      @TournageDubois  Год назад

      Thank you for the feedback, and congrats on the lathe!. Curling is compression grain perpendicularly crossing the face of a board producing alternate stripes of hard and soft board fiber. This phenomenon creates a chatoyantcy in the board varying in strength depending on the degree of compression leaving the viewer with the illusion of a three-dimensional surface. Sonita the markings in the grain that are going across the grain. They look similar to tiger stripes.

      Thanks for the feedback! I'm pretty sure it's Oak. Based on the smell and graining.

    Beautiful piece. I'd agree that it looks like oak too, but don't be fooled by the rays. They will and do appear on any wood species that has been Quarter sawn. I've seen beautiful rays on Quarter sawn Cherry and QS Walnut. That said, however, the rays do tend to be more pronounced on oak, given its strong grain pattern.
