  • Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! This is my 7th filmed project, and it had a rocky start! I think I need a bigger lathe! This piece of yellow birch was harvested within the past year or two, so it was not fully dry. However, it was very spalted and soft, which seemed to indicate it was close to becoming punky. In hindsight, I probably should have restricted myself to an oil finish in order to let the wood dry while the oil hardens instead of trying to seal the wood immediately with wax. Anyway, let me know what you think!
This piece will not be for sale. It will be a gift to my friend who gave me the yellow birch for free.

The yellow birch grain looks like a tiger’s coat. I just love it.

Came back to this after a year and it still doesn't disappoint. Also if I was your friend I would probably cry in appreciation.

It’s fantastic to see that the wood is Spalted. It makes the wood so much more interesting than I think..

I do enjoy your videos very much. The sound of your lathe and cutting tools is all I need. Very therapeutic and calming. I hate listening to babbling videos where the person runs on endlessly trying to convince you about how smart they are and no real content is offered up. And a beautiful piece of art at at the end of everyone of your videos, well done all around. ✌️😎

BEAUTIMOUS !!!! Thanks for posting !!! I LOVE that wood !!! In my younger years, I liked to come home from school and make a lot of chips. I made candle holders, vases, stands to hold pecans and the various tools to bust them and pick them out. I was always coming up with something pretty for Mom or Dad or my Grand Parents. When you started on the "spire lid-handle for the lid, I thought you were making Chess-pieces. Fooled me!
