Woodturning - The Organised Chaos Torus

  • In this video I make a segmented Torus using 11 species of wood.. it stands 12" high and has 720 segments and 2 spalted beech sphere feet ..
    The timbers used - Purple Heart, Oak, Mahogany, Zebrano, Spalted Beech, Ash, elm, Walnut, Tulip, Maple Burr, Wenge and Kingwood ..I finished the piece with Danish Oil ..
    I had some segments leftover from the organised chaos vase I made recently and after seeing some of the crazy torus's that Cammies Garage has made recently, I thought I would have a go at one myself ...
    • Segmented Wood Sculptu... - Cammies Garage
    I would also like to credit Kyle Toth for the spheres for feet method of standing the torus upright I've seen this method used a few times but was unaware it was his idea ..

    You sir, are a rare breed. A true artist and craftsman. Your work is rivaled by noone. I actually become emotional watching you work. Noone does what you do anymore. Everyone just 3d prints or buys stuff on ebay or Amazon. You bring the world back to a time when everything was hand built and not ordered from a sweatshop in some third world country. Young people nowadays don't realize that 50 years ago if you wanted a custom made piece of furniture or a vase or some other piece for a house, you couldn't just go to IKEA and cart it home. You had to have it custom made by someone like you. And it was made to last. Please don't stop what you're doing. And I do hope you have an apprentice that youre.passing your knowledge and skill on too. Thank you for doing what you do and I wish I could afford to buy everything on your site but I can't afford too. Lol. I may buy a piece or two though. Especially if its a.piece that I can watch you make on RUclips that would just add to the wow factor and the providence of the piece.

      Kuriakose Jim, it's a complex problem in math circlecismology. That was the day your VW had a flat and you were late. But good news, it was not the bonus question on the final.

    So many thoughts: why is this beautiful, intricate donut of donuts a torus (familiar with the term in anatomy, but not in geometry); reading comments while watching, wondering why if needed “feet”, and at first thinking it was some sort of stool; NO! He wouldn’t make a commode like this - just NO!!!!! I’m so glad I stuck around for the ending, truly beautiful!

    Torus- a doughnut-shaped surface created by the turning of a conic, especially a circle, about an exterior line lying in its plane. Oh, ok, got it.

    • @vasopel
      @vasopel 4 года назад

      you're probably just joking but I can't help myself, a Torus is: "a surface of revolution generated by revolving a circle in three-dimensional space about an axis that is coplanar with the circle"
