- Eating a whole bag of chips by yourself can be painful the next morning, but they are worth every bite in the moment. Chips are arguably one of the most beloved and versatile snacks to enjoy. You can eat them straight from the bag while watching TV or playing video games, or you can enjoy them on the side with a meal.
Today, chips are even inserted into burgers and sandwiches, and people don’t seem to be complaining about this new food innovation.
Chip fans can be very passionate about their favorite chip brand, but we've tried 16 brands and are ready to make a ruling about which one is best.

I love Sun Chips! they don't like it. bummer. Funny they put Doritos as the first. Yet they have the same problem of the spices getting on your fingers just as the cheetos do. The flamin hot Doritos leaves the hot spices on your fingers like cheetos do. they never mentioned that!

Cape cod brand,my local brand,has little to no potato flavor..they steered me away from "kettle" style chips for years..when I tried Lay's Kettle, especially Salt and Vinegar ,I realized I was in error... generally not wild about the other Lay's chips ,the kettle style they make have become my favorite.. Kettle Brand are way too greasy for my taste,and they are always broken in the bag, unlike the Lay's
Munchos are good they just say negative things to get you to leave messages so they can make more money, I don't believe a word they say.
I like Munchos. Although, because they're basically free form Pringles, they have to follow the FDA rules on what is a chip and what is not.
I understand everything is subjective, but this list is absolutely trash. How do you rank Pringles ahead of Zapp's and Kettle Brand? I'm so angry lol
I was just thinking the same. Maybe they're just not big fans of kettle style chips, but it's hard to imagine anyone with any taste ranking Pringles higher than Zapps, or for that matter, some of the other ones that it ranked over.

Kettle brand is a much thicker and therefore crunchier--not crispy--chip. ATK did a test and it's a love it or hate it chip.
@Jeffrey Kerrick out of the kettle brands i recommend cape cod, the crunch is to die for and the flavors are made for a variety of pallets, I myself prefer the classic original salted chips.
Cheetos are chips? That's news to me.

Agree! I can't believe they included Utz and left out Charles Chips which used to be delivered weekly to your house on a subscription plan and they never lasted more than a day especially the BBQ flavor.

I remember trying Munchos in the early 80's at a vending machine in O.C. Maryland, as a kid I was blown away at the different taste then a standard chip. I still love them to this day.
I live in NC and I love muchos.
Charles' Chips! They came in a huge can and were delivered. When the can was empty, they'd bring a new one and take away the empty.
We used to have Charles Chips delivered. They were completely awesome. They also had cans of chocolate chip cookies you could have delivered. Two of my favorite childhood snacks.
For me, I will just let the chips fall where they may.

You're right about that Wise potato chips are the best potato chips in the history of mankind. I love them unfortunately I'm out here in the People's Republic of San Francisco they don't have them they don't have a lot of stuff out here boy I can't wait to get out of this left wing crap hole.

I hate the taste of Doritos except for Nacho Cheese. The rest of the flavors taste like rejected items from a good chip company.
Lays are a knock off of jays, if you grew up in Chicago area you ate jays or you had to leave town
Ruffles are my #1 - perfect texture, great flavor. But Doritos and Sun Chips round out my top 3. And I didn’t realize Cheetos were considered chips...

Tim’s chips, a northwest brand are my favorite by far. Very crispy, like a Kettle Brand, but with a fresh, not over cooked flavor.
they used to be better then they got bought and changed how they were cooking them. utz is the closest to the OG Tim's, but the flavoring powders aren't as strong

Are used to drive a semi. It was a time factories are more open. I remember picking up at the chip company can’t remember the name. But I do remember that the chips that I purchased in the store were not memorable. They were crunchy, salty, but did not have all the complex of the flavors that I like in a potato chip. They were not potatoey. In the factory I was given a bag, a plain paper bag, full of those chips just off the conveyor belt. They were absolute heaven. Everything you look at for in a potato chip. What I have discovered is that a lot of products you buy that are processed our wonderful, only if you get it the day that they were made at the factory. By the time you get it and it’s available to you, the product has changed.
I found this to be true with shortbread cookies, cupcakes, muffins, and a variety of different snack foods. The problem is preserving all the flavors and keeping it from going stale.
My favorite is Grandma Utz kettle chips cooked in lard in the brown bag. Yeah I know--bad FOR me but good TO me!

The Utz salt and malt vinegar absolutely does not fall into that category. Best salt & vinegar chips out there

Yeah, I'm surprised that ranked it low. They complained about the texture, but they ranked Cape Cod pretty high, which is extremely similar.

I remember Bell Brand potato chips. They came at first in a box. There was also Lara Scudders Potato Chips.

Are they hard to find in some states? I live in Maine and every store that sells chips has Cape Cod. They’re more common than Ruffles here!
Cape Cod's best chip is their Russet. They use high-sugar potatoes so that every chip comes out dark golden brown.

Lays is the wonder bread of chips. No one buys Lays to eat themselves, but they're always out at parties to give to other people. Pringles were highly overrated on this list. They do have lots of flavors, but the non-potatoness of them make you tire of them easily. Doritos Flamas #1!
Sun Chips are not gross. I love them in small doses. I like Mashed videos better than those from others like Babbletop because Mashed focuses on the product(s) with promotional materials, etc instead of random clips that have nothing to do with the subject.

Well, to be fair, it's pretty hard to avoid them and they shouldn't. I mean FritoLay makes Munchos, Sunchips, Cheetos, Fritos, Lays, Ruffles etc.
I remember Wise potato chips from a very long time ago. They were greasy but tasty and Lays weren't around then. The slogan was, "Not all potato chips are Wise. Wise owl on the bag Plus they were just 10 cents.
Jays not lays. Hot stuff flavor is my favorite, it took forever for lays to do what they usually do and make a half ass knock off of the king of hot flavor chips
I grew up in western Canada eating Old Dutch chips. They are pretty much my go to for a plain ripple chip but for flavours I like Miss Vicky’s, Kettle Chips and Ruffles. Yum!
No delievey of OLD DUTCH Montana or West of that State. American FWYS/ROADS I was told are total CRAP

Perhaps for casual munching, but when you are at a pub watching the football with an energy drink or beers, they are pretty average. Fortunately they aren’t as big here in Australia and for good reason too.
Give me Kettle or any of the slow cooked chips any day of the week.

I live in Michigan and we have a brand called Uncle Ray's. Their roasted garlic is my favorite.
Try the kettle brand from Meijer there great also all there chips are great

I used to be Lays potato 🥔 chip lady….and if I’m on the go, they’re great! But at 38, I’m really into Cape Cod Chips and they’re now my favorite potato chip brand!!! Theyir flavor, value, crunch, perfectly balanced potato flavor and salt and quality are unmatched!!!!! So delicious!

OLD DUTCH POTATO CHIPS--Made in Minnesota! Use to work for a Company called Odetics Inc., Anaheim Ca. I worked Blueprints for the Space Data Recorders SpaceBorne Division. Also had a new bag of Lay's I had bought the night before (cousin living in MN) sent me several boxes of the Old Dutch Potato Chips. Not a single person liked Lay's but everyperson who sampled both Potato chips enjoyed the Old Dutch! Later, worked for the Sheriff's Dept Orange County Ca., as the Range Clerk. Did the same test & not a single person cared for Lay's but all enjoyed Old Dutch potato chips! Suggest Y'all check out Old Dutch Potato chips Minnesota!

Never tried them, but TJ;s store brands are consistently outstanding.
I switched from lays to utz years ago just because they were on sale but I still eat them and almost always cheaper than other comproable brands.
@@tomcabrera8223 They are more frequently on sale than Wise or Lays, and in many places their everyday price is half that of Wise or Lays. I think they are very closely comparable to Wise and Lays. But the best value of all is Clancy's, a store brand of Aldi's, as good or better than Wise, Lays or Utz and $1 for a big bag.
Trader Joe's never surprises me, their store brands are terrific. Best frozen pizza I ever bought.
Utz potato chips are pretty good, but their masterpiece is the big pretzels. You could get them at Sam’s in a gigantic tub. They were very salty and very dark, but not burned.
Clancy’s Chips are awesome and worth a trip to Aldi’s on it’s own. They are delicious and remind me of how chips tasted when I was a kid...a little bit more salt.
Herr’s has the very best cheese doodles on the market. They are, by far, the cheesiest.
Clearly better than Lays, Wise, Utz, Herrs, and a third to a quarter the price. I avoid going to Aldi's because I can't resist them.
Good's from Pa. are the best chips. UTZ second best. It's hard to take this video serious when they include Pringles which are not potato chips. They don’t actually include potatoes. Instead, they’re made with something called “dehydrated processed potato.” They also contain corn, rice and wheat.

Middleswarth B B Q are my all time favorite. They are not a national brand but we here in central Pa love them .

Old Dutch are my favorite brand with my favorite flavor being Dill Pickle. Even their Doritos knock off is better and more flavorful.

Lay’s gained popularity through years of advertising and from Frito-Lay buying out local brands. They are far from the best. They just have the biggest market share. Too salty, greasy, and thin.

It's funny, I bought a bag of Munchos on my road trip this week and it's the first bag of those I bought in many years. I am really diggin' them! The thumbnail picture looks like them and I thought oh, they picked them as the best. I start to watch...At the bottom of the list is Munchos. Second bottom are Sunchips (another favorite of mine.)

i kid you not. The besst Frito lays chips, are the ones in the smallest bags. They used to sell for "three for a dollar." the smallest chips that fit inside the small bags, have more flavor.
True. It always seems the larger the bag, the less the flavor...which is why the "family size" bags have the worst taste! Same with soda. 2 liters don't compare to cans or 20 oz bottles.

Doritos are very good but I remember the first and miss them. Go back to 1969 plain Doritos and bean dip. Can't get plain any more, Damn shame.
