When a restaurant doesn't even bother to name the type of fish they use [in this case the expensive place], I steer clear. Pollock? Tilapia? Who knows, but I want to know what I'm eating for more than twenty quid.
For the price I think the Wetherspoons is good. The food is pre prepared, but they use premium food, a bit like buying a Tesco Finest ready meal, which I think is good for the price
I have to pay £15 for a large cod and chips. They do special offers for pensioners but generally it’s a case of ‘don’t want to pay it? then go without. I live in Essex so it’s not as if it’s London prices.
Wow! Such a difference in price for essentially the same ingredients but the dearer one looks so freshly cooked and tasty, I'd willingly pay it. Down here in London you couldn’t even buy a portion from the chippy for the price you paid to eat the cheaper one in a restaurant, and we don’t get mushy peas either!
Looks like you got the small fish and chips at Wetherspoons and compared against a standard/ large at the more expensive place. In the afternoon after 2pm you can get their larger fish and chips ,pease and inc a large soft drink for £7.19...or £6.12 for the small one you had . I've had the regular at my local and a pint of San Miguel for £8.59 ... really tasty and with a premium lager great value .
I wasn't to sure when I saw the first one but as you were eating it it grew on me and it was a very good price. The expensive looked lovely but it was rather expensive. I don't think i would pay 21 pounds for it though. I would have to go for the cheaper one
The Best fish and chips is the one you can enjoy the most of it. Last year, on my London travel, after visiting the Tower of London, I ate a really big fish and chips dish which was around 15 pounds and I almost could not finish it because of the big size of the greatly battered fish and the incredibly crispy and big side of chips. But it was so delicious, I finished it and left with a big smile on my face. By the way, great video!
You got small portion in W/spoon. I go for larger ones and with a drink c.£9 (less between 2pm-5pm). Think W/spoon do a good f&c, have had it quite often.
@@everydayimeating3407 @Everyday I’m Eating - Can't comment on Papa's at Whitby, but they looked ok and I expect that it would have to have been to Whitby's standard to survive. Also, the whale bones are real - the life boat museum their is interesting too. Now, you only have to try Cleethorpes - let me know when and I'll direct you to a couple of good places . Bon Appetit
The first place being a Wetherspoons looked par for the course for them. The chips and peas looked nice enough, but the fish didn't look too good although you said it was nice. The second place for me had the more appetising meal and the fish was more meaty. I just hate the plate fillers that had the peas and chips in, I want all my food on the plate and not in pots. I'd have to go for the second restaurant here though. Nice video.
I had posh fish & chips last week in a restaurant for a similar price as you paid here and I thought they were fantastic and I never thought I would prefer them over going to a chippy but they were great!
One way to look at it... Buy 3 portions of the less expensive meal and you will not quibble on value for money... The cheaper meal seemed to be punching well above its weight... Though sometimes on the flip side you did find the expensive meal tastier and if you are out and about and its the only option, from a taste point of view you are not losing out.. Given the choice... Cheaper meal wins
Hi again from North East Thailand ( Issan) fish n chips is my all time fav food with bangers n mash a close second. These both looked good in there own right, but the Resturant got it for me. Thailand has great food, but being a Yorkshireman tha cant beat fish n chips wi bits wrapped in newspaper... oh the good ol days back in Mirfield. Great video and such a nice young fella. Regards Big Cee
Its impossible to get decent fish n chips in Thailand, I had to send 2 lots back in Jomiten in March , Fish was like mush .. Regards the review, I am a cheap charlie , so the wetherspoons wins for me with a tenner in my pocket
In Leeds for Fish and Chips it has to be Whitelocks but the chippie across from Stick and Trist has to to get a mention, Hook and Line. Then there is the Merchant £10 including a drink and the last place YOU WANT TO AVOID has to be The Ivy, a complete rip off. The Conservatory used to be popular but that was before the pandemic and last but not least, the Adelphi although I have not been there for a while
The batter on the first fish looked like it'd cut the gums, and size was too small. But for me, the second meal looked far superior even though the fries could've been chips.
Hi, just started watching your videos, really well presented and informative. 👏 I’m just wondering when you do the comparisons between 2 different places do you have them both in the same day? (I know you’re always dressed the same) If you do them both in the same day you must have one heck of appetite, and I take my metaphorical hat off to you. 🎩👍
I went here on 22 February 2022. I had exactly the same food except that I had garden peas instead of mushy. Even the plate is the same in my photos. 😂
The expensive one is in the old city square post office and rather over priced as for wetherspoons it seems to depend on which one you visit for example the fish varies in size and the one I last had at Beckett's bank was rank as it tasted of curry
Good vid again luv! Our local chippy the trawlerman delicious fish n chips a Jumbo cod £5.40 so good try a Wigan kebab and a babbys yed. A smack barm with pey wet (Wigan caviar) haha
Hello luv! A babbys yed is a steamed steak pudding lovely and soft, Wigan kebab a meat and potato pie(or any pie you fancy) on a soft white barmcake and a smack barm is a thick slice of crispy battered potato with just the pea juice on a soft barm as well hits the spot!
Sadly if you visit a restaurant that has so many meals on the menu, you are going to get frozen or tinned items on your plate that have been cooked by microwave. 🤔🥴🤔. When I go out down town I always look out for the days 'special' as they are normally cooked fresh for that day. 👍👍.
really having to pay 3 times the amount. you have to ask if you ordered 2 or 3 wetherspoon ones would the portion size give a better result. but really again if you go to brewers fayre you can get 2 meals if you got two fish and chips then would be cheaper than getting 2 at wetherspoons
Homemade Fish, Chips, and Homemade Mushy peas are always going to taste better than Weatherspoons Cheap Nasty food. My apologies for the negative on Weatherspoons but I am not a fan of the company. Really try to find a Greene King as their Fish and chips are outstanding. The Mushy peas from the expensive place is Pea puree thicker which looks like Pea soup but it's definitely worth it.
@@everydayimeating3407 I believe I sent you a link in your Cheap breakfast video. For local Greene Kings hand on heart Much better than Weatherspoons. No Merry Chef ovens used.
You would class both places as a restaurant. But you cant beat a real chippy. The first one may have filled the gap, the second one very over priced. I am a Londoner and they cant do F&C. Oh but wait a minute there is a small chain of three places, I am told the fish is spot on. Small Cod £17.50, large £21.45. Small chips £4.50, large £5.50. Curry sauce £3.50 It maybe the cost of rent etc. Passed by 5 years ago with my son, bag of chips mate. There was resentment, from the old boy behind the counter that we didn’t want F&C . Well you can keep it for the Tourists, we walked away. And when we do visit the area , me thinks they are still having a Giraffe.
I've eaten fish and chips in restaurants cheap and expensive but you still can't beat the chippy and eating them outdoors, I live by the sea and the thought of sitting on a bench eating them out of the paper is totally my heaven xx
The cheap meal looks great to me, I don't have a big appetite so it would be perfect for me. Would I pay £21 for fish and chips or £7... Hell no. The cheaper meal looked good enough to me.
No one, not anyone, should go to a Spoons for fish and chips. Fresh from the freezer. And that so called fancy gaff I’ve been to and it’s hideously overpriced. If you want fish and chips then go to a chippy.
Which one would you choose?
What sort of fish is that it's so long it looks like a eel , not a fan of the cheap one,
The expensive one looks yummy 😋👍
The expensive one was great!
Definitely not the expensive one for £21; I wouldn't pay that for fish and chips anywhere.
I would pick the Wetherspoons as their mushy peas looked more proper like mushy peas should look like the expensive ones were too runny
@@moorwalksfacts, the most I’ve paid for fish and chips was £15 but that was worth it

For the price, it would have to be the cheap one , most times.
Maybe, the expensive one, for an occasional treat.🍿🐟
I agree with that!
Great video, right enjoyed, that pub looks incredible.
It was really nice inside!

Trying going to Whitby or Cleethorpes - then you'll get some really descent well sized "fish n chips" And, they'll tell what type it is too - Haddock!

I would still choose Wetherspoons unless it was a special date Cant justify the price of the expensive one.
I agree, Wetherspoons most of the time but expensive place for a special occasion
