    These people that are saying your offer was insulting have obviously never negotiated before. There's some give and take in every negotiation. In my opinion, they are jealous of the success of this channel and want to find anything possible to nitpick what you're doing. These people probably pay sticker price for a car, so they don't insult the car salesman...🙄🙄

      Paddy… as a buyer they are probably only worth 50 cents. As a seller, you sell for as much as you can make. It’s a business transaction. You do not pay retail for a bulk collection. And what if the autos are fake? Consider these things in the future. And at the end of the day, the seller said no and Mike found him a buyer.

      @@paddyb456 You seem to be missing two very important pieces in this equation. 1 - in the sub $5 card market it's a free for all... if you want to spend the next 4 weeks of your life scanning and listing $2 to $5 cards, go for it. Most people don't want to do that and are okay with selling bulk for 50cents. That's extremely common in the card market and is usually a fair exchange for 'time'... 2 - Values are determined by one thing...what someone is willing to pay you. You can run comps until your fingers bleed, but if someone doesn't bring you money for that card, it's worthless info. If Ricky had 2 months between visits, it's probably fair to assume he tried to sell his collection for 8 weeks. He didn't... because money talks...not "comps"

The commons aren't worth much. Though its a great story and a personal collection holds a great deal more than monetary value, they just aren't worth much today. An offer of $2000 was low...too low, especially if some were planned for PC. I am happy to see Ricky received $3800, although that might have been a stretch - $3,000 might have been the sweet spot if some were going to the PC. The title and image "HE REFUSED TO SELL" also seemed a bit click baity, based on what was filmed (maybe he refused to sell and we didn't see that)." He said he needed to talk with his son before he could give you a response. The fact that it took two months was likely indicative of his emotional connection to the cards and less so about him stunning you by "refusing" to sell.

      @@CHASINGCARDBOARD The video did not show multiple offers that were refused, at least from what I saw. Maybe I missed that? Ricky did take two months to respond, which is pretty ridiculous if, in fact, his rationale for not accepting the original offer of $2,000 was that he had to "check in with his son." I feel badly for his son if it takes two months to check in on something like that!
      To be clear: I don't think Mike's offer was ridiculously low. In fact, I probably would have offered less than that as I am not into autos for my PC, like Mike is. My questioning of the offer was more about the delta between what was going to be going into Mike's PC vs. what was going into the online store for resale. If I am buying for my PC, I tend to offer a bit more than if I am buying for resale if the purchase is from a collector. But, I suppose each of us are different in that regard. I thought $3800 was high, for me, but if the autos are what you're into, then there were some nice ones there.
      In terms of autos being real or fake, that's not really my steez as I don't acquire autos for PC or resale. It's not a lake I choose to swim in but I can appreciate the appeal. I agree, paying $4,000 for fake autos would not have been high on my priority list either. Even paying $2,000 for fake autos would not have been my cup of tea. All in all, the episode ending made it right. Ricky got what he wanted for the cards and the other fella got some nice vintage cards with autos. Overall, solid episode despite the title which did, IMO, feel a bit on the click baity side. This show is so well done, even the semblance of a click bait-ish title is not needed IMO. The show quality speaks for itself and I appreciate the work that goes into them - keep chasing:)

    I think when making an offer that would be considered low you need to gauge the actual seller's motivation/emotion of why they are selling. I don't see anything necessarily wrong with a 50% offer but if the seller is somewhat tied to the cards you may lose a deal by going this path. Its just a reality that some sellers may be rigid in negotiations while others are pretty liberal and like the back and forth. A lower offer could insult the seller (whether intentional or not). I can see playing this game with another dealer who may be motivated to move inventory, but i feel collectors are more emotional about their collections and what they think they are worth. A buyer must also be willing to walk away if the pricing doesn't work for you either.

    I’m not going to bash about a low number but a lot of people buy large lots on eBay for really good money and that is even if they are in Very Good condition. Based on the eye appeal these cards looked to be better than very good and a lot of bidders are like Mike, looking to buy bulk to start or finish a set and bulk for each of these years rarely come up. People will over pay to get what they need and then offset that buy selling the lower grade cards they already have for sets and upgrading with cards that this guy had. Obviously don’t sell the star cards with the lots but with as many cards from all different series that he had each of the lots bulked by each year would get this guys thousands per lot. Add in the star cards even in raw condition individually and he could have made a fortune.

    $2,000 was a safe starting point of negotiating. Even though Ricky has stories behind the autos, that alone does not authenticate them. I have looked atcollections with lots of stories behind them. It only takes getting burned once to teach you that you have to be careful when spending thousands of dollars. For a reseller, you have to leave room for fakes. Same with condition. You can make your best estimate on condition/grade, but opinions vary. At least graded cards are done by a third party with no vested interest in the individual card. Perhaps a better offer on this collection would have been a contingency on authentic autos and conditions. Like, if these come back as authentic and these come back above a certain grade I will give you an additional amount.

      @@CHASINGCARDBOARD I think overall for sure $3800 ain't bad on the collector side but even as a collector you want to be a little lower as a whole BUT the $3800 is much more in line with value than the $2K offer no doubt about it. Still think the DOG needs his own card show channel, some of the dog b roll looks were hilarious.

    Why should buyers like yourselves have the mindset of buying cards as cheap as they can when these people are happy to let you in their house. Maybe, the right mindset should be wow. I will never find these old cards again and offer a good price where the seller would maybe be overpaid and happy with the offer instead of buyers buying something where you know you lowballed someone? I love how you give your side of it and give a sentimental story after. Oh how heartfelt. Thank you so much. 😂

    Let me first say that I am a collector not a dealer. Card dealers are worse than car salesmen and insurance salesmen on the theives totem pole! Morgan RC, Clemente, Rose, Mays, Aarons, Yaz, Robinson RC signed, Perry RC signed and many more signed cards and all the other 50's and 60's cards right out of the packs!. The signed Aaron alone is was worth $2k! Yeah, yeah, yeah, you have costs like shipping, grading, time, sort through them, sell them and "all the things that go into the business part" bullshit. If I was offerred $2K for that collectioin I first would have laughed in nhis face and then tell hiom to start running while I get my shotgun! On a $2,500 Aaron card it's costing him $1,000 to do all the shit he's describing? I would sell the cards on eBay, or FB (14% fee) and shipping is $5 with tracking. Dealers are simply lying sacks of s*^t!

    • @CHASINGCARDBOARD
      @CHASINGCARDBOARD  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching. Yeah we get it, some folks don’t like the negotiating. Sounds Ike you like to pay eBay comps. We don’t. We’re trying to fund the next episodes (which are expensive). For you to watch these episodes, we have to play for flights, rental car, gas, food, lodging, and then the other expenses. So hopefully you don’t qualify those costs into your “bull$h1t” category. Oh… and we have to pay the film crew and editor. You think we do this for free? Can’t. Our team has families and bills to pay.
      *Most sellers reach out to us, knowing we DO NOT pay retail prices.
      Are the autos real? Not sure. Definitely shouldn’t pay that price on the possibility of them being fake. The $2k offer was Mike’s opening offer. Next step should have been Ricky naming his price. Then go from there. Mike was ready to pay $3k-ish. But Ricky didn’t go there. So, we brought Ricky as “collector” that was willing to pay closer to Ricky’s asking price.
      So, having heard that, we’d love for you to hang around and keep watching. But we ask that you keep your comments family friendly, as a lot of kids watch and read the comments.

      If you finished the episode, Ricky got paid for his collection for a super fair price. You guys are missing the fact that Mike brought him a buyer so he could go on the trip with his son. Sellers have to make the decision. We are NEVER out to rip anyone off.
