Vergil vs Dante in a nutshell.
You're not very far off. Vergil became obsessed with power to protect the ones he loves, so he'd never lose them again, but has long since lost sight of the the WHY he wants power, and instead focuses on the HOW he can obtain more, become better, become stronger. This is something his brother even points out to him in 3, though Vergil doesn't want to hear it.
Honestly give this series a try if you haven't by now, it's honestly such a beautiful tragedy imo.

My god, when he says "there's no coming home" and the transistion to a scene of Eva then Dante and Vergil charging at eachother, the whole scene was amazing.

He was super disappointed with basically all of what came out from what i watched. He didn't really judgment nut sadly
Casey Edwards truly is a mastermind when it comes to songs, he made a song that's near enough 10 minutes long and it NEVER gets boring to listen to. Hell, I'd argue it feels too SHORT sometimes like HOW?! Also the last few bits of Bury the Light CLEARLY take a lot from Devil Trigger, just to connect Vergil to Nero even more than he already was.
He should have written Dante's too tbh, not even trying to hate on the one he has, but god imagine what he could do for Dante
The "beyond the tree" line and the ones next use the same motifs from Devil's never cry, incredible composition.

You compare an IP like Sonic and a character that's mostly bark, little real bite, and not intelligently written, and put him against Vergil, and you quickly realize, one group of writers, and by extension the characters, actually *has the right* to call themselves a storm.

somehow the fact that "cast aside this forgotten home" became "there's no coming home" gives me the heavy feels. At the End of 5 vergil was going to fight Dante to the death, but he also realized he didn't have anything for himself. If their places were switched, would he have a Trish and a Lady? Because all he has is power and nothing to protect, no home to make up for the one he lost, and it makes it way sadder than it has any right to be
I assumed "cast aside the light" and "theres no coming home" having to due with Nero
In 3 Vergil chastised Dante for his weakness, saying "Might controls everything. Without strength you cannot protect yourself, let alone those you love."
The irony of Vergil having 'buried the light' in order to obtain more power. Power that now has no purpose, as he has nothing left to protect. Those last four lines of the song hit so hard.

Honestly I feel like he improved upon the original and key parts are better accented.
A fun fact is he did want his original version to be like this. But capcom tied his hands saying guitar can be used only on chorus. So Casey had to improvise
