- This movie will show you how to replace standard IDrive screen with the Android screen that will give you all modern functionality to your BMW E60 and E61.
There are many screens available on the market, the one that I have installed is from Aliexpress:

Hello, any1 know what the "voice key function definition" means in the factory settings. As it does not change anything (useless, short press voice long press navi or opposit) whenever i press voice command button on wheeling steer the navigation app start on the new android ui meanwhile the german voice command assistant also start on the old system

Can I use my exisiting BMW GPS antenna for BOTH the Android and my existing CIC? if yes, how? Is there some splitter to send GPS to both CIC and Android?
Hi there, I never used two antennas for GPS, but I know that you can order from eBay "Antenna Splitter" I have been using something like this for my radio in previous BMW. It is not expensive.

Quick question - I also ordered a sat nav antenna splitter as Id like to use the existing sarks fin antenna with the android unit. do you think it will work? Would be nicer than having to rewire a new antenna and stick it to the windscreen. Thanks.
It should work as long as connector is the same. My car also have GPS, I think that I got your point, that in this way you have less cables to install.

You still have to rake the wood trim, heatercontrols and radio out because the android screen needs power from the cableharness provided with the android system. You old CCC/CIC screen wires wont fit the android screen
Hi, I have the MASK unit. Can i install an android screen even though I don’t have CCC or CIC?
The first radio that ever installed was on my BMW E60 from 2003, I know that I emailed seller just to make sure that it will work, he asked me to send photo of my connectors on the back of the iDrive screen. I will recommend to do the same just to make sure. I know that many radios on Aliexpress including one that I ordered mentioning MASK CCC as one model, so it should be fine
What are you supposed to do with the other side of the rear View camera? The first part i get you wire it to the ground but what do you do at the camera part?
First test your reverse camera as there are different types same as way how car sent signal to it. Before installation connect brown cable from radio to red cable on your camera, video to the connector shown on the movie. Then turn reverse and check if screen on the Android radio will activate reverse view.
If not then you will need to connect red cable from camera to pink (inspection) wire on the Android radio. Then if your car is E60 remove on the back of the car rear light grey cover and unclip rear light, connect red (rear camera wire) to plus of reverse bulb, turn reverse gear and radio should change screen to reverse view. If you will have message no signal then you need to buy camera signal filter (you can see how to connect this on my another movie) when you are sure that camera work you will need to remove black pins on the inside part of the rear boot and you can install the camera. I may be installing anothet radio in another E60 but it will be in the next week or two.
How long does it take to arrive in the US, I tried AVIN, but they sent me the wrong screen, i would have to wait 3 more weeks, so they refunded my money, I still have the wiring harness hooked up, they just wanted their screen back.

Hello Andy, where do you connect de cable jack for the sound? And where the pink cable is connected? I was think with the reverse camera but you connect at the brown cable...

Hi there. Sound should go via aux, if you never had aux in your car then you must code it (activate) via NCSexpert. The pink cable is reverse camera inspection cable. Depending on your car, reverse camera view on Android radio can be activated automaticaly or via pink inspection wire that detect power from reverse light.

Hi Andy, I have used your video to install my system and it was very helpfull thank you for posting that. I just have two questions and hopefully you or some other user knows the answer. 1 When I am in the Android mode is there a methode to go from Aux to radio without going to the Idrive screen? 2 How can you lower the volume of the SYgic navigation? It is quite loud and can not find how to lower it.
Hi there, I am glad that I was able to help, as per changing between audio sources yes, you can bind steering wheel buttons, depending on car (LCI or not) car that I am using today is not LCI. You have to go on Android to car-info / Vehicle settings / Steering wheel buttons and there you need to set one of the buttons for "Next entertainment source" this will allow you to just switch between. As per volume I think only was is general audio. You drop down android menu by sliding finger from top of the screen and then adjust audio level to your needs. I hope it helps.
Why does no one talks about idrive controler. Can this be navigated with controler not touch screen
I'm pretty sure you can use Idrive with this radio. To be sure, I would reccomend the radio from Avin which is confirmed idrive navigation and better quality than this. Head over to @evangoyuk channel to see a detailed install in the next few weeks.
HI can you use your steering wheel buttons for the volume ? i cant make the music louder or quiter.
Yes I can, maybe you need to change Android factory settings, I know that they impact iDrive. Maybe you should contact seller, I never had this kind of problem and I installed few of them already

Excellent DIY instruction ! Question: what happens if you don't have a rear view camera and you put the car in reverse speed; does the display still show the original view of the Parc Distance Control?
Hi there, it depend from the car, LCi or pre-LCI, with LCI view was changing and I have seen sensors on the screen even before I installed reverse camera, with pre-LCI radio didnt react as it is using "pink" inspection wire to activate rear view. You can still hear sensors but not see. Always you can bind button on steering wheel to go back to old I-drive to see BMW reverse screen and this is what I was using for some time

Hello. Nice video. Is this unit have different skins on factory setup lockd menu (code for that was 1314) I saw a different video with an android head unit like this and in that menu it have like 3-4 BMW themes/skins for the menu/interface, any ideea if this one haves it cuz I intend to buy it
I installed one recently, it has five bmw themes up to the latest evo ID 7. Alos a audi and Mercedes theme that work fine. Evo ID6 is nicest imo.

Yes, they have own line to send audio, the Android radio do it via AUX, if you would like to upgrade your car then you need to code it. It is easy but you need correct cable and software. BMCables on eBay have easy in use tools :-)
Hi I've got some questions
1. How is your bluetooth connection working when you use navigation btw? Mine nav disappears and the screen is replaced by phone screen, which is inconvenient as I can't really use handsfree when I need navigation.
2. Are your parking sensors displayed when you put it in reverse? Mine stopped working after a week (I had two units so it seems like a manufacturer's fault not a one of issue, but mine is Android 8.1 and yours seems like the older 7.1 can you confirm this please?).
3. My 8.1 Android was adverted as able to do split screen, which it can't do - what's your experience with this?

1 I have same issue when using navigation or any other app, when call come it takes over the main screen, my way to go arround it is that I have additional aux port on front of the car to use phone while using navigation
2 my parking sensors works fine and are displayed on the radio screen
3 I dont see option to split screen on my radio but I will message supplier to make sure and add comment

It is a very good addition to the car, thanks to this radio I have now Playstation in my car 😂, yes I had to code AUX, my car didnt had it as stock, but if you have AUX then you will be fine
Hey Andy, So i have a question. If my car original CCC unit is broken, can i still install android unit and will it work ? Or does the car need to have original CCC also in working condition.
Hi there, I think it should work as in my understanding CCC is computer screen and this is what we are replacing, but maybe to be on the safe side you can call BMW garage and confirm with them
Do you know why does the screen on the radio lower the brightness everytime i set it to max ? I belive i've checked all avaiable brightness settings an android device has to offer (as well battery saving stuff).
This is standard BMW setting, on the original screen was the same, when we turn on the lights. Sadly I dont know if we can change it.

I am installing one system like yours or very similar in my car( the screen frame do not have that small halls like the original one but in what features are concerning I think they are the same). I am doing with the mechanics that usually take care of my car. It not completed because we are waiting from the camera cables that I decided to install later 🙄🙄. But I have one question about navigation. They told me that the google maps only works if I have a celular phone connected to the android. Is that true? Does the android not has maps installed? Hi there, google maps on the car works same as on mobile phone, you can download offline maps via WiFi and then use them without cellular network. I am using Sygic and Google maps on my car

Hi man, I have a 2010 e60 with the CIC system, How does the install differs from the CCC installation? I have received the screen, and all the cables in the box seen to be the same from the CCC installation, but since it’s a newer system, do I still need to install all cables in the box?

Hi there, both radios that I have are the old style, even on LCI, I think that CCC and CIC connects in same way and the difference is in menu that Android need to replicate. If all connectors looks same as the one that I have then installation steps should be same :-)

I have Sygic navigation that came with the radio and it works fine for me, using wifi you can always update the maps

@@Ali83leb android radio send audio via AUX, if your car never had AUX then you will need to code it. It is very easy to do and there are many movies on RUclips that guide step by step on how to do it. But you will need ODB2 cable and program NCSExpert. On eBay there is seller with nick BMCables, he designed easy to install set of apps and sell OBD2 cable. You can send him your model and year of you car and he should be able to advice cable that will be good for you.

@@Ali83leb I replied to another comment maybe you have same problem, I installed this kind of radio on two cars, BMW E61 as default was starting with car radio (FM) instead of AUX, you can check if this is the case by going to car info, changing audio source to AUX, swiping touch screen top/bottom to go back to Android and then play any sound, also keep in mind that Android have own volume, when you swipe screen from top/bottom please make sure that volume is at least at 50%
I'm confused. The sound output from Android goes to OEM Optical fiber sound cable or to AUX cable?
I'm asking this because I'm trying to figure it out if it's possible to pass the sound directly to OEM optical fiber /amplifier cable
I have connected optical cable as my CD changer is using it, and all works fine :-)
@@AndyN1 Ok, but the sound from android comes through it or AUX ? AUX naturally has a limited power input comparing it to a CD Changer for example (playing the same music on cd changer or AUX from my phone Galaxy S9+, I have to put more volume on the dash when using AUX).
@@celiocalves the sound from Android radio goes via AUX, but the volume is good, there is trailer of Fast and Furious included with the radio, the quality of the sound is very good, even on standard speakers.
@@AndyN1 You didn't feel quality/(power diference between listen music from CD or AUX with this headunit?
@@celiocalves no, but in my car I added AUX on my own, I made connection and then code the car myself, maybe you should replace AUX cable to the new one? It is hard to show you but in my car sound quality if very good
Hi Andy! I need your help. In the video at 7:55 you describe how to remove the green cable from the original connector and put it into the new connector (not adapter). What else should I remove from the original connector to the new connector or adapter? The adapter does not fit because of the two blue plastic parts in the original connector.

It should be the only connector that you remove, as the new connector have blinders and there is no way to connect optical cable
@@AndyN1 Thanks for your fast reply! As far as I unterstand I only remove the green cable to the new connector. Did you connect the adapter of the new connector to the original connector? I think this does not work because of the blue blinders?

@@christophs9733 no, the original connector will go to adapter and send singnal to Android radio, only cables that need to be moved are the optical as they are blinded in adapter
@@AndyN1 ok I understand. The green cable is the optical cable with has to be moved from the original connector to the new connector because it is blinded in the adapter. And to connect the adapter with the original connector I have to remove the blue blinders in the original connector? I hope this is my last question 😊
Connected to aux no bother can hear volume on RUclips and USB however no sound from google maps or bluetooth , any ideas?
Hi there, when you pair bluetooth connection on your phone there are setting to allow music and calls sharring, as for google maps again there are setting to turn on voice informations but you will need to download voice and offline maps. I hope that this will help. Thanks

Masz kontrole radia przy uzyciu kolka iDrive, podglasnianie, przelaczanie muzyki ktora sluchasz z USB stick dokonujesz z kierownicy, sciszanie i podglasnianie rowniez, jesli masz podlaczony tel to rowniez mozesz uzywac kierownicy do odbierania i rozlaczania polaczen, szczerze to za duzo na touch screenie nie robie, niektore funkcje jak ustawienia musza byc zrobione przy uzyciu Touch screen ale tak w normalnym urzytkowaniu to raczej za duzo go nie dotykasz

I've followed your video and I still don't get audio. I have changed to AUX input from original CCC and changed the fibre optic cables. I am having more problems after accidentally doing a factory reset. Can you help?
Please connect it all as you can see on my movie, today after work I will record another movie as I think it will be easier to explain. I am not sure if it will be much help but I will show you how to access advance settings and share what I have setup. Maybe some of these settings were wrong. I know that they upgrading firmware therefore on my radio some of settings may be grouped differently but still you should be able to find them. If this will not help then sadly factory will be you next move as it maybe something else.
You can also check if you connected AUX do the correct port, there is AUX and CD Changer next to each other, maybe you connected them other way around?

have a question when go to android mode if shutdown the car and start again this screen will show android directly or start with ccc system and have to change all the time when shutdown the car ?
When you turn off the car then Android will shout down the system, on start of the engine it will start the system and automaticaly go to Android, by holding menu button for 2 seconds you can switch between old iDrive and the Android
@@AndyN1 another i has annoy about when on AUX mode and turn off car then start car again it automatic switch to radio and so loud to me, then when change to android screen if on aux/bluetooth mode did will stay on aux/bluetooth when start the car ?
@@PureScapee not all radios are the same but in my radio when I go to factory settings (code 1314) you can set that car start automaticaly from AUX or FM, i have selected AUX, you can also disable them and Android should start with last used

@@PureScapee you have to go to setting on Android then System info, then Factory Setup, type code 1314, there in ARM settings there is "Turn on FM on launch" unselect this. I have on my channel another movie where I show settings on one of these radios

Hi on LCI E61 I had problem that car as default was starting with Radio (FM,AM) instead of AUX, maybe in your case it is the same, try to use car info to go back to Idrive change audio source to AUX , swipe Android touch screen from top/down to go back to Android interface and then try to play sound.

Do you had a ccc or a cic system originally in your car? Because i have a ccc business without navigation. I bought the 8.1 android system and the sound only works with an aux cable plugged in into my armrest because there is my original car aux and i want to know if there is any way to not have to use the original car aux with cable because it is ugly with cables flying around my car. Please help!
Hi, my radio is ccc, I installed same unit on E60 pre-LCI and E61 LCI. Both radios were coded to have AUX, but in order it to work I had to go to old I drive screen and change media to AUX. On the begin it was changing input to radio but you can disable this in advance android radio settings.
E61 had AUX on it as standard it was on the back of the car. When I was installing radio I had connector that replaced the factory one.
I checked that my radio has als9 audio out connectors, idea may be to buy the seperate connector that will allow you to connect audio out from Android radio to AUX in from the car.

@@smokinace9441 If you have AUX connector on your car that works it mean that car is already coded. In my previous reply I posted link to connector that I think will sort your problem. You will need to connect it to the back of CD unit and replace your factory AUX connector, other end connect to Android radio (same wire that you have connected to arm-rest) But keep in mind that it will disable your arm-rest AUX connection. I hope that it will help.

Hello, first of all thank you for the taken time for me.. now i have one more question and i am really sorry for that.. but why is bluetooth music not running and youtube sound is running? the same with easyconnection when i plug my phone on usb with the android. And when i connect the android with usb from my phone it does not show me the files (music, pictures...) on the android that are in my phone. That means i have just sound from the apps and when i call someone.. bluetooth sounds and usb are not working. Please help if you know what's going on.
have installed one and its all connected and working but keeps switching from aux sound source on android back to stock radio fm after a few seconds.. no idea why
Hi there, check in "factory settings" I know that there are different versions of this radio but you should have option to turn off automatic FM. I have another movie regarding to settings. I hope it will help
@@AndyN1 hi. they got back to me and said the same. I had to enter password 1314 in factory settings menu and set aux to manual :) working really well and I even installed the reverse cam (which took longer than the actual android upgrade itself, but I ran the cables invisibly all the way into the boot door hinge tubes etc. Love it! :)
Also, I found a nicer route for the new gps antenna without going through the centre dash grill! I fed it behind / under the air vent duct (as the woodgrain cover was off) and then up through the side windscreen pillar. Ill make a quick video or post some pics when I have time.
Reverse camera I also fed through a similar way as the gps antenna but then went through the back of the glove box and down into the side of the floor so I didnt have to remove the top of the steering wheel column a all :)
The absence of any instructions in the package made your video a life saver though. I just want to thank you again all the way from Australia :)

Not yet, I have two of these BMWs and they keep me busy for now 😂, but I have seen few nice things that I may add in near future.

Yes, but after pairing you must change settings on the phone to send music via bluetooth, I can make short movie to instruct how to do it

I order my one from Aliexpress, I will recommend to buy one that you install as replacement of registration plate LED, but please ask seller first if LEDs are error free, as the one that I have ordered is not. It doesn't impact functionality but give error

I have bought also a android unit and thank you for the installation guide.
Nevertheless I have a small issue with my head unit, when the headlights are on, the screen brightness dimms a lot ant it is verry difficult to see something on the screen.
Have you encountered also this issue?

Hi there, it is standard function of the car, original iDrive screen also goes down in brightness when lights are on. You have some limit of control over brightness of your screen using drop-down curtain with settings

There is new version of this radio, link is in my latest movie, they improved many things with it. Radio comes with Bluetooth, GPS antenna and use car antenna for radio so you will be fine

No it doesnt, it turn off with locking of the car and then start fresh each time you start your car

Hi there, I know that someone was mentioning problem with AUX, but I think issue was with existing connection, If you have original AUX then you can disconnect it on the back of the radio and see if it will help.
@@AndyN1 thanks for the quick reply! No OG AUX, coded it in to make the radio work but left the aux connectors free behind the radio, could they be the cause?
@@xTonyx91 it should not cause the issue, I have installed these radios on few cars with AUX and without, only issue with sound quality that I have heard was related to faulty AUX cable. Did you mean " connectors free" as connected cable that is not connected to anything after or just empty AUX on the back of the radio? If you have AUX cable that is not connected to anything then I will advice to remove it. Maybe good idea will be to ask the supplier? Or maybe someone else can reply with more ideas. If you will find solution then can you please share it for others?.

The blue lines are neon lines, I got them from Aliexpress, if you will search for "blue decorate neon strip" you should be able to find them, I ordered type with plastic line that you place between car panels

Yes one of the cars that I installed this radio on is 2004 and another 2009. Your car need android for "pre-LCI" model
just replace with aftermarket radio like Pioneer
You lose idrive then, and thats needed...
