    Good one. I have a bit of play in my '02 and was told it was the upper control arm. I am not convinced, so looked for a steering gear box video just in case. You soytainly did not disappoint - and kept my attention because you are just a boatload of fun.

    What is the special tool you used to remove pittman arm? I have to do this job. Wheel is hard to turn left only and pump whines. Right turning is smooth and silent.

      Excellent video!! Hint: Get the steering box off with the pitman arm, take to bench and soak it with WD-40 from top, flip over on bottom, soak it again, once that gets in there it's easier as I have seen some break the tool trying to get them off😉

    Is there much difference between 2002 and 2003 grand Cherokee if I’m having power steering issues as well I’m hoping it’s not the gear box but if it’s similar enough I feel pretty confident

      If I had to make a guess there shouldn’t be much difference, thanks for the comment

    Greetings from Peru Friends of Christman Garage congratulate you for this video that will help me a lot, I have a jeep like the one in the video but it is from the year 2003 that I reported error P1495 leak detection pump solenoid circuit, said pump I can not find it alone It has the EVAP chamber cleaning solenoid. Please, I would appreciate your support.

    • @ChristmanGarage
      @ChristmanGarage  2 года назад

      Most newer vehicles have a “purge valve solenoid” that vents from the throttle body to the canister and they also have a “vent valve solenoid” that vents the gas tank so you can put gas in the vehicle I have seen both go to the bad and also I have seen the canister go to the bad. The purge solenoid is usually under the hood and the vent solenoid is usually under the car close to the fuel tank. Sometimes you need a smoke machine to pinpoint a problem 👍good luck!

    Mine doesn’t turn to either way unless i rev the engine, do you think replacing the steering box will fix the problem?

    • @ChristmanGarage
      @ChristmanGarage  2 года назад +1

      You may have another problem, sounds like you may be low on fluid or have a loose belt but usually those issues will create some noise, you also may have a pump going to the bad. I would check those things before changing on the gear box👍. Thanks for the comment

      I have the same issue, change the pump same issue, when jacked up smooth steering, now I'm thinking it's the hidro fan , since jeep was driving with lil fluid. Previously had changed tie rods and got alingmnet that didn't help. I'm lost

    Any reason why you didn't take the front wheel off? It was nice when you started and you mentioned bolt sizes, but that seemed to end quick. No biggie, but it is nice when that information is communicated. Especially the size of the nut on the pitman arm.....

    • @ChristmanGarage

      Anytime I can avoid putting a vehicle on stands I do.. guess I’m a little lazy lol! And sorry about the bolt sizes and such a lot of times I think about this information to late or after I have filmed. Thanks for the comment!👍👍

    • @ChristmanGarage
      @ChristmanGarage  2 года назад +2

      We changed the pump and that didn't fix it. then I checked for any binding in the linkage and everything looked good. this was a stab in the dark really but it turned out that's what it was. I'm sure there might be something else that would cause a similar situation but the gearbox fixed this one.👍👍thanks for the comment!

      @@ChristmanGarage mine is very inconsistent. Harder on some turns but not others. There’s a right turn I make everyday near my house that’s a bitch but then there’s another that is always easy. I’ll start with the “simple” stuff I guess. Your video was great.

      @@ChristmanGarage Hey, one more thing...today I finished replacing my radiator, water pump, T Stat, and a power steering line to the fan. Anyway, I jacked the front end up to turn the steering wheel left and right 20-30 times to bleed the line. Not once did it bind up. If it was the steering gear box wouldn’t it have still been hard to turn even if the wheels were off the ground? Thanks for your time, man!
