Once again , straight and to the point ! I’ve been wrenching on my ‘97 ZJ’s for over 20 yrs and find Barricade’s (what’s the dude‘s name ? ) videos to be spot on without wasting a second of your time ! I just changed my steering gearbox last week and should’ve watched this video first - I wouldn’t have had to look for socket sizes and torque specs ! Great job once again, Barricade Garage !
This video is a year old, but still is very helpful. You by far are the easiest to listen to, and are very clear on instructions. Thank you so much for these videos, they have helped me a lot with my grand Cherokee
These are some of the best repair videos on RUclips hands down!!! I appreciate how you explain everything all the way down to where to place the jack stands.
Concise information, video views we need to see, short helpful tips along the way, all make for one of the BEST DIY repair channels here. Gold Standard for me and my '98 Grand Cherokee maintenance needs.
I love that you put the recommended torch wrench pounds and clearly show every area. You've helped me put my Jeep back on the road, I could have never done it without your direction.
Just replaced my steering gear today, and, again, your video was incredibly helpful in guiding me through the process. Just bought my third '96 ZJ two weeks ago for my son, so your videos will help us BOTH tackle all the items it's gonna need. As has been said many times in the comments section of your videos, you are a great instructor. We appreciate it!
Usually these repair videos are done by shadetree mechanics. Barricade makes a very professional video, clearly explaining the steps and the torque specs for the fasteners. A nice change! Thank you!
Dude even on the things I know how to do, or have done before countless times I'll still watch. Love how you lay out your videos there's always enough video representation with short clear and concise directions. You're a great video creator man. Keep up the great work.
I just went to get an alignment on my 97 ZJ after installing a passenger side tie rod. They told me I have too much play in the steering box to properly align the vehicle. Now I have to get a steering box! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for a great video! I appreciate the attention to details like socket sizes and torque specs. It helped me be prepared and following your procedure helped the job go very smoothly. Keep up the good work!
Working on a newer Jeep...but your video was very helpful in visualizing what I needed to do. Lots of how to videos out there with someone telling you what they did while putting there finger on a shiny new part and tapping it while saying you should change this part. Thank you very much!
Replaced that steering gear today 2-21-2022. Feel like I’m driving a caddy. Went with a Lares new box. All the “slop” in the wheel gone. Appreciate the video fam.
Thanks for another great video brother. I used the radiator vid to install my new water pump and aluminum radiator. Guess what’s next. My steering gear box is leaking like a mug. You rocked out just what I need to fix next! You are a blessing.
Maan you are doin it , I have a 1998 ZJ. and I'm just gettin started with replacing everything just as you are Keep up the good videos bruh !!! I watch everyone you make and it makes my repairs go smooth... appreciate the work and videos
Thanks,Man. Great video. I am just about to do that to my 1995 Grand Cherokee. Very clear and informative. One of the best concise instructional videos I've found. I'll be watching you. ;)
Ive learned alot from you mann. I appreciate the time and effort you put out to your jeep just like i do mine. I watch all your videos about any jeep youve done. Again thanks Cuzzo
I've been by here on a few videos and they have all been really well done. Clear and to the point. Subbed! Here's hoping my 98 XJ is fairly similar to your ZJ
One of the best videos I’ve seen produced on RUclips for any automotive repair! That you’re working on a ZJ makes it even better! Your rig looks great BTW. What lift did you use? That’s my next move on my ‘97.
Great Video, I had play like that in my 97 ZJ, I started with the gear box and pump, still had play , then replaced all steering components even lower and upper control arms and track bar, just to find out my ball joints was seized, onece I replaced those the steering was touchy the way it should of been, the whole front end was brand new.
Hi, I came from Germany and look your videos. Great job! I have a Grand Cherokee zj 5.2. 95. He comes from Canada. I like this car but the parts from this Jeep very expensive in Germany.
Great video dude. I have a 98 5.9 grand cherokee. My steering box is so bad it wiggles left and right and the jeep doesnt move lol. It has alot of olay in it. Also pops too. Just havent gotten around to replace it. One issue with the manned pumps and gearboxes though is they are normally trash. Gone through 3 of the remaned steering pumps. I probably woulda greezed or antiseized the steering shaft and bolts though after putting them back on
You may need a new ps cap. My old one wouldn't play well with the new pump for some reason. I bought the dorman one off amazon, nice and tight now and no more slow leak.
Man, another awesome video as usual. Whenever I need to do something on my ZJ, the first thing I do is check for one of your videos. Question - the only thing that I think I have a question about that I think I missed in the video is how to make sure that the travel is centered - I guess the "position" of the gear coming out of the box doesn't matter, as long as you put the pitman arm on in the correct orientation? Am I correct in assuming it's the position of the arm on the box that controls the travel? And it looks like it's keyed to only on on in one orientation? (Also, unless your pitman arm is worn out, I assume there's no real benefit to a new arm?) Thanks again, man!
I love backyard mechanic videos I got to replace the entire system on my jeep and this video should help me very well thank you Also my steering wheel does fhe same thing yours is doing Do you know if it could be track bar problems or for sure gear box? I guess I'll find out by having someone shake it while looking at it
Is the new gear box is set to center or did you turn it end to end to find the center ? I wonder if the new gear box is preset center from the company and no need to move it? then install the pitman arm same as the position it was mounted to old gear box.. just want to know before I install my new steering gearbox soon.. Any tips please , Thank you in advance for the reply.. Anyway , Its the best video so far I found on Steering gearbox on Jeep 4liters..
So I just repplaced mine with a remanufactured one from Advanced auto. I'm still having issues with the truck swaying back and forth in the lane and it's hard to drive so I'm doing the upper control arms. I did the lowers watching your vid last week of course my cam bolts did not come out nice and easy like yours so have new ones otdered. My mechanic buddy says the gear box I got is junk. How is the AC Delco I'm tired of throwing money at this damn truck!
Trust me bruh, it is easy! I got both Milwaukee tools from this video through Ebay and heres the review to both... M12 STUBBY IMPACT WRENCH: ruclips.net/video/E2L6fXllrcE/видео.html M12 1/2" RATCHET: ruclips.net/video/o23BJEMcU4g/видео.html
Bro I still love your videos man you are the best at explaining and articulating how things need to be done. A couple things though. I wish you had done the j-20 gearbox upgrade. And how do you make sure that your steering is centered with your steering wheel and steering box?
I got the gear box that i wanted and it works fine. A j20 box for me is unnecesary anf Just keep the steering wheel straight and note the position of the pitman arm when you remove it so you can put it back the same way
Ten-Four appreciate it brother I'm only asking because I'm getting ready to do the j-20 upgrade on my ZJ. I'll let you know how it goes. the problem is I can't find any information on RUclips about the j-20 upgrade you have to go into Jeep forums to even find out about it. Wish someone would do a video.
I love your videos! I have a question. My 98 ZJ has a new pump I installed last year, but steering has always seemed choppy at idle. Now it doesn’t like to turn left and locks up if I try to turn left. The whole steering rack and stabilizer were new 2 years ago and still in good shape. I’m thinking my steering box is bad. Do you think that could be? It doesn’t whine, and no fluid leaks from anywhere, so I doubt it’s a bad pump, but who knows. Thanks for any input.
Just want to say thanks for all the videos you have done on your ZJ’s. You are an easy going easy to listen and learn from kinda dude.
Clamdiggerdan Boone Thanks. I apreciate your comment!
I second that. Very good videos.
I say third that...well done and fast.
I say fourth that... What the first guy said.
Igual,,, desde mexico,,, buen trabajo amigo

I appreciate that you are verbal and clear. You showed the work that needs to be done and didn't just fast forward it. Very explanatory. Thank you.

I love that you put the recommended torch wrench pounds and clearly show every area. You've helped me put my Jeep back on the road, I could have never done it without your direction.
Seems everytime I work on my Jeep you've got a good video up to help. Thanks a lot! I appreciate the time and effort you put into all of it

FANTASTIC VIDEO! Just what I needed because my 96 grand cherokee laredo has a leaking gear box too! Please keep the videos coming!
Replaced that steering gear today 2-21-2022. Feel like I’m driving a caddy. Went with a Lares new box. All the “slop” in the wheel gone. Appreciate the video fam.

Your videos are timeless. Some of the best ever. Thanks.
Thanks for another great video brother. I used the radiator vid to install my new water pump and aluminum radiator. Guess what’s next. My steering gear box is leaking like a mug. You rocked out just what I need to fix next! You are a blessing.

Very helpful video - best for this procedures on YT. Still a little unsure if I'm going to tackle it myself.
Editing makes/brakes a video, and you do an excellent job!

One of the best videos I’ve seen produced on RUclips for any automotive repair! That you’re working on a ZJ makes it even better! Your rig looks great BTW. What lift did you use? That’s my next move on my ‘97.
Its a front to rear spring swap with BDS front coils for about 3.5 inches
Great Video, I had play like that in my 97 ZJ, I started with the gear box and pump, still had play , then replaced all steering components even lower and upper control arms and track bar, just to find out my ball joints was seized, onece I replaced those the steering was touchy the way it should of been, the whole front end was brand new.
Thanks for the vid! Very clear. I did my gearbox on my WJ today. I'm digging your hitch-vise (genius!).
No joke, you should be teaching people how to make you tube content. Fantastic channel!
Always informative and useful information, thanks!
Definitely subscribed and bell notifications all the way up. Working on my 98 zj soon .
Great video!! Doing mine this weekend.
You make the best videos!

My man as always pretty good keep it up cheers :D
Awesome video... I was only able to find the 33mm at Menards
Great video! I'm thinking about doing this to one of my zj's. You make it look achievable.
Hi, I came from Germany and look your videos. Great job! I have a Grand Cherokee zj 5.2. 95. He comes from Canada. I like this car but the parts from this Jeep very expensive in Germany.

Best video on the net
Real informative 👌 just did my bro in-law and had no problems doing this only with the Pittman arm dragling other than that easy
You may need a new ps cap. My old one wouldn't play well with the new pump for some reason. I bought the dorman one off amazon, nice and tight now and no more slow leak.
+leakyjeep5.9 I broke the new return hose nipple on the new pumps reservoir so I had to put the old resevoir on the new pump. All is good
great instructional video, please may i suggest you include new part numbers used in future videos as i feel this would be most helpful
Great! Super helpful. Thank you!
Great vid :) damn you had to break out the old school manual ratchet for that one nut lol
+singlecams right lol
This was dope bro
Straight to the point 👍👍👍👍
Nice explanation and good work on the video! I am doing about the same stuff on a '98 ZJ
Very nice video brotha.
Another great video.
Thank bro. Really helped me when I (hawnky) didn't what to do
good video, but thread locker is required if you're doing it right. You don't want those bolts working loose and losing your steering
Thank you for us great video. Pretty sure my box is bad, Ill need this video to tackle the job.

I saw you had drilled and slotted brake rotors and was wondering where you got them and what brand they were.
