High-handicapper and I bought CBX2 wedges last year in 54 and 58. They have honestly taken my short game from atrocious to point and click. I would 100% recommend cavity back wedges to anyone struggling with consistency in their short game.
My three Cleveland CBZ Zipcore Wedges were delivered 1 hour ago. To see this review right after feels like a strong confirmation of my choice in replacing my wedges after 4 seasons. Have a great weekend.
I play off 14, and play cbx2 wedges, in 48,54, and 60. They are a fantastic product, the majority of amateur golfers should be using these. Amazes me how many guys you see with mega forgiving game improvement irons/Woods, and then have a set of vokeys in the bag!
Cbx2 wedges really transformed my game. Didn’t realize how punishing Forged bladed wedges were until I saw the results on the course. The bane of testing clubs indoors is the forgiveness of the artificial turf. Obviously not an issue with drivers but anything that requires turf interaction can alter results and mask swing faults as well lol
I'm a 16 handicap, with a slightly above average short game, and I tested both the 2020 RTX4 and the 2018 cavity back CBX Wedges (pretty much these exact wedges, just older, non-full face), and the CBX made it in my bag. Highly recommend cavity back wedges for someone looking to be consistent and get the proper distance from each wedge. Great video!
Haha Love seeing you guys have a good time with the testing! And we'll go ahead and give you guys the credit for inspiring the new wet conditions performance. 😆
I’m a CBX 54/58 player. Absolutely love those clubs. The CBX Zipcore was one of the best performing wedges for spin retention in wet conditions in a MyGolfSpy test as well.
CBX wedges are a game changer. Literally. Instant improvement in my short game. The majority of golfers would impact their games immensely by using the CBX.
I’ve been to Club Champion twice for driver fittings. To answer the question of “do they really care” NO THEY DONT. You seem to be miles ahead of them in knowledge and care of client.
For some reason, even as a higher handicap golfer in my earlier years, I felt a lot more confident playing with Vokey wedges over wedges in a set or a cavity back wedge. To be honest, I’m glad I did because they taught me how to hit the ball properly on full swing shots and they just felt right. Also, when lofts begin to increase, shaft length obviously gets shorter and a little easier to hit. I play four Vokey wedges. I really only use my 46*, 50* and 60* mostly, my 56* depending on the situation. I prefer the performance of bladed wedges overall. They’re not impossible to hit.
Agree. I'm still a high handicapper. I can play the Vokey or last gen RTX wedges well. I have SM 8's too. My short game is my strength. Can't wait to add the new RTX 6 in the bag. Blades wedges, PW, GW, SW, are easy to hit even for a beginner. Less so a high lofted Lob. Cleveland and Vokey are great options.
Mid-handicap here and love my TM MG3 wedges. Seriously thinking my next set of irons I might go blade/CB in my 9 and PW as I do like to vary things around the green and dont mind losing a little bit of forgiveness with the higher loft.
funny that this is an idea this year I went from a rtx zipcore 505458 an opted to put the cbx zip in the gap wedge last year with the release an never looked back. best choice in my wedge department I've made in ages
Hi gents! Love the video. Is there a possibility of you guys doing a wet wedge comparison for 2023 wedges? Would love to see how the new wedges compare to each other for wet performance.
Cbx zipcores I’m the 50 and 54 and the slightly older cbx full face 58 in the bag at the moment … performance is excellent and they are so unbelievably forgiving
I'm using Ping G400 irons 5-SW but wanted a lob wedge but not 60 degree so bought a CBX 58. Yet to be tested but I'm very hopeful it sould fit the gap nicely.
Solid 21hcp, bought sm8s bc of bag appeal. Always struggled with them. Bought a set of cbx2s 2nd hand bc they were cheap and changed my short game. Ended up giving them to my son, picked up cbx zipcores and my sm8s are collecting dust
Had the Kirkland wedge set and had a big gap between my pitching wedge and gap so I replaced the 52* gap wedge last year with a 50* cbx zipcore. Couldn’t be happier.
Great test. I am in the market for new wedges and ever since you tested the wedges with the "wet test" I have made it a condition of purchase that they have to perform well in both dry and the wet. I really hope you consider making this a standard part of your wedge testing and I have to admit a little curiosity on how a regular iron performs in the wet as well.
I use a Callaway Mac Daddy CB gap wedge, im off 18 so like the extra forgiveness. If you aren’t great with your wedges it’s certainly worth a look at a cavity back gap wedge.
ooh this will be good I play Cleveland CBX1 48 degree and RTX3 52 an 58. got the blades first but they realised I needed one between the PW and the 52. Love them all but much prefer the CBX. Would love three new CBX wedges
I play Cleveland wedges and have for awhile however I tried the cavity back last year and it lasted about 4 rounds and traded it at a golf shop I didn’t like the feel and it seemed there was too much bounce in the one I tried but still playing an RTX 3 and RTX4
Love my Glide 3.0 52°. Love the extra protection compared to a blade, and the wet weather performance. Compared to the CBX, I think the Ping hides its tech, making me feel less of a hacker!
Gotta say, I've never bought into cavity backed high loft clubs. I definitely want a dead spot on the high toe on my lob wedge for short flop shots. Cavity back gap wedge makes some sense since it's typically a full shot club.
I never play in the rain but, in the summer heat, the grounds keeper will manually kick on the sprinklers all day long. I need this new hydro zip technology.
The cbx2 full face is the most balanced lob wedge I’ve ever used. It’s a pleasure to use it around the green and for every partial shot. But I loose it a bit on full shots: on those I prefer the rtx.
I just bought a HB soft #3 blade putter. Amazing feel, accuracy, and value. The 345 gram head weight is perfect with lampkin grip. Can't go wrong with HB soft putters.
Another awesome video boys. , can the software simulate wet landing conditions? Is our perception that wet wedge shots don’t spin more down to how they grip when they land on wet grass?
3 hdcp here and the CBXs have been in the bag for over 5 yrs…and they keep getting better. The true gem is the 60*, which is like cheating it’s so good
I play a 50* and 60* in the CBXs and have a 56* RTX just for some of the bunker lies here in SC. If I had to do it over, I’d just get a 56 in the CBX because the 60 is just so impressive. As far as full shots, the forgiveness is unmatched with no flyers or jumps from any conditions. They are so good, 6 of my regular partners have switched after borrowing my original CBXs when I got the CBX2s….and seeing what I can do with that damn 60 from everywhere! I will note that I custom ordered mine with the Nippon 115 wedge shafts, since I play Nippon 1050 GHs in my Titleist irons. I hope this helps.
Forgot to add that I love these sole grinds because the V sole is the same you’ll find on the last 4 iterations of the Srixon irons, which I played previously for 6 years. This grind allows for my steeper action and hinge & hold wedge technique.
@@kevinstrickroth2347 Wow, thanks for the awesome reply!! I play a 50, 54 RTX 4 and a 58 CBX Full face(2020 model). The CBX Sole has been my favorite club and made some of the best up and downs of my life with it. I thought about trying the RTX Fullface but I noticed the sole grinds are a little different. I feel like I need to go CBX in the 54 and 58!! Do you feel theres any possible disadvantage of not playing the RTX over a CBX?
Recently switched out my T20 GW and SW for Glide wedges. The T20s looked and felt great, but were not providing me much help. I have nippon 105 shafts in all my irons, so trying to hit the blade wedges with a 132g S400 tour issue shaft was always a massive feel difference that led to inconsistent wedge play
So…any plans to do a head to head against the Ping Glide 4.0? HydraZip vs Hydropearl. Which one retains more spin when wet and which finish is more durable.
I have the 52, 56 and 60 CBX wedges and like them a lot. Only problem is that I cannot hit them out of the sand. The bounce is so huge on these that it doesn't seem to slide through the sand easily...they seem to more bounce off the sand and cause me to hit thin shots.
They do have more bounce than most other manufacturer's wedges and more than my personal preference. To make them work effectively in bunkers, one would need to ensure the clubhead is descending significantly into the sand an inch or two behind the ball so that the bottom of the swing is not behind the ball.
@@zazhou I agree, but most bunkers at most courses aren’t deep in sand to make that work (especially in AZ). You have a coating of sand on top, then hard base on bottom. The bounce just ricochet’s into the hard pan on bottom. The only solution is less bounce.
@@MXJEFF94 I have the 60 and it's great in fluffy east coast bunkers. I struggled with it out in Arizona. Need something like a Vokey T grind out there.
I have Cleveland wedges and mg2 I do like Cleveland however they can’t seem to ever line their grips up at the store the grips are all different slapped on. They should just use a 360 with no logo If that’s what they do.
My Srixon zx4 set is being delivered and i'm trying to decide between matching the set and ordering a gap wedge or getting one of these cbx wedges for my gap wedge. any thoughts?
Thanks fornyour reviews. They are really entertaining and informational at the same time. Would you recomend the RTX or CBX for a 23 hándicap player, 3 tournaments played, and willing to lower down to 15 hdcp as fast as posible? Thanks in advance
Let's Do a test for CB wedges/Callaway Mack Daddy CB wedge vs Cleveland CBX 2 wedge? i.e. 30/45 yards over the bunker/water onto the green with medium to less green to work with and about a 6-foot radius for one putt., for High Handicappers
Great review to watch - on dew wet greens is spin or land angle more important? Often lower launch with spin will skid whereas the steeper land angle would stop faster? Clearly whichever is best it’s having consistency & knowing your wedge that matters most I guess
I'm loft and landing angle guy personally. I just find the nip it and zip it to be tougher to execute predictably. But if you only have super tight lies the latter might be the only option. The wet usually kills spin, there is skid but there's also increased drag to slow the ball. Keep your grooves clean! :-)
Cbx wedges are solid options for people who play mostly square and use the bounce, I dare say not much better. If you play fancy shots, look RTX. CBX isn’t completely un -versatile, but if you want simple and can learn roll out they are money.
How long is a piece of string? There is no correct or incorrect loft/bounce combinations. You might be left with a shot on one hole where a 56 with 12 degrees bounce might be a great combination. Then on the very next hole you might have a similar type of shot, but the lie of your ball might be very tight, or sitting on some rock yard patch of ground with little grass, rendering a 56 with 12 degrees of bounce useless
I have always played Cleveland wedges, I remember before the vokey wedges came most tour players had Cleveland wedges in their bags, I tried vokey wedges its not for me to heave less feel so no I will stick to my Cleveland’s wedges Got 47, 52, 56 and 60 Yes I don’t use the ping 45 from my iron set, Now it’s time for me to retire the 47, 56 and 60 I will use rtx4 for the 47 and 56 but I will go for the rtf full face for the 60
Carry my 718Ap2 PW 135m and my MG2 50° 110m. Is that an okay gap or should I look at something like a CBX gap wedge to hit it closer to 120m. Find myself at 120m alot.
1) Both 50 degrees the same length? (CBX being quicker) 2) Intrigued by the efficiency jump on the RTX 60 between dry/low strike at .89 and wet/higher strike at 0.92 is it a spin or CG which explains that?
These really interest me. I have a set of JPX921 Forged Irons (4-GW) and I absolutely detest my GW. I cannot hit it to save my life. I can only assume that because it has the same shaft as my irons and not my wedges, but basically the same length as my wedges, my wedge swing does not line up to its swing weight/balance.
Curious as to why you did not chose to compare the RTX6 to the new CBX Full Face 2 - that way you would be comparing clubs with similar embedded technologies for wet conditions? Or am I mistaken regarding the embedded characteristics of the Full Face 2?
Do you guys match wedge swing weight to your irons? Or is it a progression through t them all, if so what your progression, anybody else feel free to chip in (didn’t mean a pun) I go D4 to D1 60degree to 5 iron
Great video guys! Been waiting for this comparison video for a while! Is the hydro coating only on RTX6? If your fitter is not willing to go down with the brush and squirt while you’re hitting, are they even a fitter? 😂😂😂😂
Get a 54 or 56 and bend it strong. I’ve gone opposite, 60 & 56 weakened 4* to get more bounce and don’t dig my wedges any more, don’t thin them either so suits my type of swing well.
Yet another Great video. Thanks. I am Considering upgrading my vokey sm6 L grind 58 degree. It has 4 degrees of bounce. It is a love hate relationship I have with old Bessie. Sometimes I do miraculous things with that wedge but if i am not honed in at the time good grief. I am thinking glide 4.0 t grind 58 degree, g430 58 degree, callaway sure out 58, vokey low bounce k grind 58 or the cbx 58 for the additional forgiveness. Any thoughts? I am guessing cbx would be the most forgiving of the bunch and g430 would be lacking back spin. Also I noticed the cbx comes with ten degrees of bounce. I am a sweeper that plays 80% on hard ground and 20% of the time on soft ground. Would you say that ten degrees of bounce is potentially too much for me? If so if i were to get the cbx bent to decrease bounce would that increase or decrease the loft?
I think we all just want to feel the amount of happiness in our lives that Ian was feeling at 10:13.

I have the same set of irons and also hate the GW. Every other club I love but that set GW is awful.
@@erikrobertson1327 Glad it isn't just me! I shank/thin that club 9/10 times.
I have hot metal 921 and hate the GW also ?? What’s going on here mizuno???
Will the RTX6 release in full face?
Curious as to why you did not chose to compare the RTX6 to the new CBX Full Face 2 - that way you would be comparing clubs with similar embedded technologies for wet conditions? Or am I mistaken regarding the embedded characteristics of the Full Face 2?
At 50°/52° it wouldn't worry me, at 54° or more I want versatility not forgiveness as I only ever hit partials with them
Do you guys match wedge swing weight to your irons? Or is it a progression through t them all, if so what your progression, anybody else feel free to chip in (didn’t mean a pun) I go D4 to D1 60degree to 5 iron
Love your videos. Thanks!
Great video guys! Been waiting for this comparison video for a while! Is the hydro coating only on RTX6? If your fitter is not willing to go down with the brush and squirt while you’re hitting, are they even a fitter? 😂😂😂😂
How do the CBX perform out of the sand?
Why the heck don't they offer the 52-degree wedge in a low bounce? drives me nuts! Great video lads!
Get a 54 or 56 and bend it strong. I’ve gone opposite, 60 & 56 weakened 4* to get more bounce and don’t dig my wedges any more, don’t thin them either so suits my type of swing well.
That was awesome...I laughed out load three times.
That was a great test. I wonder if they will come up with a full-face wedge in the coming future.
Full face options are available in these
When I make my millions I’d like to come and be an intern at TXG. Hell, I’ll bring a garden hose and drench the whole area.
I also have a hairdryer…
Bucket of water would be more like NZ conditions at the mo
Did I hear that right "if your fitter doesn't squirt on your balls do they even care?" I think I've been going to the wrong fitter lads.
