Have always loved Cleveland wedges. I might be the only person on earth but, I have actually loved some of their putters as well. Short game I give Cleveland some love.🙂
I have a Huntington Beach that's great
I have a 20 year cleveland wedge addiction. This year's rtx6 are excellent.
Cleveland wedges have always been great, but ever since RTX4, they’ve really upped their game. This year’s wedges are my favorite looking wedge of all time
I care not what wedge I use, as long as it says CLEVELAND
Must say I do like Ian’s and Mike’s relationship they have a good chemistry used to think Mikey was not as good but as his confidence grows on camera really enjoying watching
I used to play mg3s and now I play rtx tour rack raws and they are by far the best wedges I've played from every aspect
Thanks, guys. I really like these best of videos.
Thanks for the 5 wedge test.
I've been a Vokey player for a long time. Mid way through the summer, I bought RTX 6 Tour Rack (50,54+1, 58+1) with KBS 610 shafts. I didn't know if they were going better than my 54D and 60k. But wow, even more solid feel with a biting groove pattern. Love the driving ball flight and consistent distance.
Can we get a “Road to Scratch” series for Mikey? Dudes putting in work and it shows!
agreed! that consistency has increased a bunch since last year for him. plus, progress videos are great content
I second this notion. Ian - do it please
@@squirrellypotato6465 looking at all the pitch marks I think there is a decent amount that have been cut from the video… also the shot count is a give away
@@jbNimble0that’s not really fair, I had a +/- 2yd tolerance on each shot so I only accepted shots from 48 to 52 yards so there wasn’t too much of a fluctuation in launch, spin and speed. It’s most important to me in these tests that the data is as accurate as possible.
I met him while working the other day and I was a little star struck lol! He couldn’t have been cooler though, definitely rooting for Mikey
I recently (two weeks ago) purchased the RTX 54 & 60 finfing they were easier to flight as you have noted. Love them!
Mid handicapper here. CBX and RTX from Cleveland changed my game. Great spin out of different conditions, and even off the rack playing shorter finesse shots like lob or flop they are super accurate and forgiving. Dropped 5 off the handicap in a couple months. And compared to Vokey and MG4 way better on the wallet. Highly recommend giving them a go
Just got fitted with Calloway Paradyms, but kept my Mizuno T22s, 54 and 58. Absolutely love them.
Just picked up a Callaway Raw 60. I have the option of any Wedge and hit 1 vs 1 with the Vokey. I just love how the Callaway sits. Sits nice and flush with the turf.
got two mizuno t22s for christmas and they are bloody amazing. feel and control like no other
Mikey's wedge game is on point ⛳️👍
I recommend getting fit for every club if you’re serious about your game. I got fit by Brent in the North York location expecting I’d end up in the Vokey’s or Mizuno S23 but ended up in Jaws Raw 54 with an S grind and a full face 58. Didn’t play much this year due to work but I got in maybe 10 rounds and looked to layup to 90-100 yards for my stock 54 ended up making 15-20 birdies doing this. For my delivery the only wedges I launched under 30 degrees were the Jaws and for me I love the beveled leading edge
I got last years Cleveland wedges off the rack and they are fantastic (had shop credit). I do plan on going more of a custom route next time around because I really enjoy them!
I may go with RTXs this year, though I’m getting along very well with my glide 2.0 wedges.
Fair review boys. The best wedge came out on top too. Nobody can better Vokey's grind options but my Zipcores feel better and are really consistent. And I do my own grinding so getting just what I want isn't a problem. I agree the MG4 is also a beauty and play it as my 50 degree (blends with my TM irons). It feels great on full shots.
Just got RTX 6 tour rack raw at the end of the season last year. Played sm9 jet blacks before them and these clevelands are the best wedges ive ever hit.
ignoring the price I think "artisan" wedges are probably some of the best out there. I play haywood wedges and love them, hope they start to get more love
Glad to see Air Canada didn’t mess up your flight any worse and you made it back to YYZ, Mikey! Thanks again for chatting with me at the airport, it made my day at work much more exciting to meet one of my favorite RUclipsrs 👍
I have the Mizuno 5606 i like the less bounce for my home course, with its tight, hard lies around the green. Its also real easy to lay it open and hit the flop shots, so i dont need a 60. I fine it to be a very versatile club.
A new wedge is always the best wedge. These are all good.
Long time subscriber of the channel and the best available for detailed reviews, but one question - why do you not show close-up images of the clubs you test such as face-on view, address, leading edge etc? It would be helpful if this was done between shots or during the time looks are being discussed.
I have the hi toe mg3 copper, love them.
Between Mizuno and Volkey for this coming season. Been a Mizuno wedge for the past 4 years. Gonna give the SM9 a run this spring.
I play Cleveland CBX zipcore wedges and they are GREAT! Helped my wedge game improve SO much as a mid handicapper! Once my wedge game gets a little better i’m going Cleveland all the way.
I loved my Cleveland zipcores but vokey just had so many more options with bounce and grind so ended up switching to them simply because i can get the exact bounce and grind i want stock. They were also $30 cheaper
that's the same problem i had; i love my RTX 6 50deg wedge but especially in left handed, they do not have anything low bounce or high bounce available for lob and sand wedges
I love my 62 T-grind SM5. Nothing out there like it right now.
Taylormade mg4 wedges I use and they are great on feel and spin
what is your best strategy for wedge sets? Gap/Sand/Lob - all similar bounce like all 3 around 10? 1 high and 1 low for misc lies like 54/14 & 58/8? PS in summer in AZ I need "floaty and soft". ;0)
What would be the modern (groove conforming) equivalent wedge to the Nike Forged 60 degree wedge?
has anyone tested the hogan equalizer 2 wedges. I absolutely love them and glad they are available again. When they left I went to Mizunos but curioius how they stack up to the bunch. Regardless they work for me.
What shafts are in all of these? Also what ball?
Been watching and appears that your fiducial middle row is lower than Foresight recommends. Why? Would love to learn and know if I should apply them differently for my clubs.
What's your opinion of Maltby clubs? I've been looking for some wedges and I heard Maltby has some good clubs for those on a budget. Also interested in any other brand that you'd recommend for a guy on a budget. Thanks.
Last year you liked the Ping glide 4, but it was not tested this year??
In my experience based on availability, the Callaway S grind is their most common offering and it just isn’t great for anyone looking for any degree of versatility! Cleveland and TaylorMade have great offerings at great prices I find. Those Mizunos are beautiful but definitely smaller than a lot of golfers need. Lots of Vokey SM8s available out there in brand new condition for discounted prices 👀
Could you do a video of RTX6 vs. RTX Full Face 2?
One of the best wedge players from inside 50 yards I have seen in 25 years uses a 4.99 charity shop 60 degree club . Chinese copy of Callaway. But if you hand him a vokey sm8 10s 60 he just thins it and chunks it .
What works for you is always the best.
what are the thoughts on the pxg wedges?
Smithworks wedges have been performing very well in UK RUclips reviews against several top wedges. Not sure if you've seen much of these in North America?
I tried some CBX2 and Edison wedges, I ended up sticking with my good old Scratch wedges
Would you say that the shaft plays a more critical role than the wedge head ? (Assuming the head designs are all very similar) Are you testing these with the same shaft? Thx!
not that I know anything but i would say the order of importance is: bounce/grind - then Shaft- then head - then finish on the wedge..... people dont always consider the importance of the wedge finish I have light blue eyes and dislike chrome, especially in bunkers. It is just too reflective, so I love a black or copper or rusty finish on my sand and lob wedge
I ended up getting fitted with the Jaws Raw with Mr. Kendall -- never considered it before walking in...
With all those toe strikes he needs the hi toe like me! At least on the short shots
As a club where 'turf interaction' is so important for many reasons, (enough so for a whole range of sole designs to be a key part of choosing a club within a makers range)......I'm not feeling these tests are real enough when done off a studio mat guys. Ok, the tests are 'like for like' and all in the same conditions etc, but so would a 'like for like' driver test off the deck. It's just not real enough for how they are designed to and actually used.
i might get those sm9's
Can anyone explain why I can swing my 56° around the same club head speed but only goes maybe 80 yards max? I play around a 1 handicap and my driver club head cruises around 108-110 mph on the course. I desperately need a 100 yard club for gapping and this makes me wonder why my wedges are so much shorter than others who swing it slower or just as fast as me.
I know you both play Vokey’s, maybe it’s due to professional relationships or maybe Bob does special fittings and sole grinds. I’ve just never got along with them, they seem like cleaner looking Ping’s.
To be honest I’ve never liked cast clubs which likely contributes to my dislike of Vokey, they feel and sound ‘clicky’. Grew up mostly playing Wilson Staff and MacGregors, then custom grind Lou Ortiz, of Orlimar fame. Those are probably the best feeling wedges I’ve ever had, didn’t hurt that I met Johnny Miller, ChiChi and Jerry Heard among others at his shop as they too were getting custom wedges hand ground by Lou.
The last 20 years I did have 1 year of Cleveland’s, my one and only time I had cast wedges in bag. Mostly it’s been Miura’s and Mizuno’s, currently carry a T22 48* PW and 60* LW along with 56*/14 Miura SW. I’ve custom ground some relief in backside of heel to allow me to lay them open a bit more effectively. I also have 3 Bettinardi wedges, 52/8, 54/14 & 58/10. Depending upon course length, turf and sand conditions I carry either 3 or 4 wedges; 48,54,58 or 48, 52, 56, 60.
I find the Bettinardi’s to be highest spinning wedges I’ve ever used and as soft and smooth as Miura. What I really like is the sole has nice relief already at heel and a rounder profile thus no need to grind a relief. I still add a bit of lead tape out near toe but much less lead tape than I use on my T22’s.
One of the features I really like on Mizuno’s is the multiple finishes. When carrying 3 or 4 wedges that all slot into same forward section of my bag, having each wedge with distinct different finish makes it easy to grab the desired club without 2nd thought as I’m pulling clubs walking to green.
Mizuno for me
guys you need to review the new cobra snakebyte! they make similar claims to the cleveland where it makes it better in wet conditions, and they have cool wedge grinds like the wide low. There are not any substantial reviews on it that match it up against other wedges currently, so theres definitely a market for it, as it is a cheaper wedge than other wedges in the market currently!
+1… Cobra wedges are just as good as any other brand. The Cobra black coating stays on better than any other brand though.
Cobra sb wedges are my favorite wedges that I’ve used.
@@TeeboxxGolfandGear well I’ve used them extensively for about two months, about 30 or so rounds with them and they’re amazing. I’ve got versatile in the 50, wide low 6 degree 56, and a widelow 4 degree 60 wedge. They’re great. Tonnes of spin, tonnes of versatility because of the widelow grind. Can’t really ask for much more tbh.
Sm9 for the win!
Time to retire the SM7s. Interested to see 😊
God I'm giving up so much with high launch. I can't get my 50 degree below 35 launch with an easy swing and 110 yard. Full bag is the same.
How to decelerate on a controlled shot! Good thing for a mat.
What about the Kirkland wedges?
Still waiting to see a Bettinardi review. Best wedges out there.
Torn between MG4, RTX and the new Pings when they're available
Currently playing SM9s and I love them, but I am a tinkering tw4t.
the glide 4's were the best wedges i tried all year, so much spin and plenty of bounce options. great in wet conditions.
Gotta have the PXG Suger Daddy in here c’mon!!!
I'm still swinging my Costco Kirklands 🫡
Mikey needs a DeWiz for partial wedge control.
The last 2 outings Tiger actually had MG2 in his bag not the 4s.
I find it hard to believe that any differences in launch & spin are from the wedge itself and not the operator. I firmly believe a wedge is a wedge (especially if forged). Maybe there are different coatings for improved spin in the wet, or differences in grind to change turf interaction. But I can't see there being a statistically significant difference for the tests here which are done in a dry range setting off artificial turf.
This test was a waste of time
So hard to beat Cleveland wedges
A wedge sampling from Mikey and not one Miura to be found? Fail! :P
For me personally, I used to only play ping wedges because of the hydropearl finish. I primarily play in the morning when there are dews, so having spin consistency in wet condition is very important for me. Ever since the RTX 6 came out, with the new spinsistency technology, it performs even better than the Ping, and feels way better too. 2/3 of my wedges are RTX 6 as of now and I am super happy with what I purchased. Very happy to see TXG do Cleveland justice, i truly believe Srixon/cleveland has the same, if not better quality than other major brands, at a fraction of the price too.
Does anyone make a wedge with zero offset? 🤔
He is hitting the pitches way at the toe! Get him closer to the ball!
No PING Glides!?....I'd argue they are some of the best wedges
They’re finished. Replacements in Feb.
@@BlairBN01 Nah, that just means it's the best time to buy them...lower prices! ;)
why no ping?
If you like a smaller head then the SM10 should be right up your street
🤫🤭
Now do it in wet conditions😈😈😈
No Kirkland Signature? That should be a crime
Jaws Raw Z for the win!
X Grind > Z Grind . Love my Jaws wedges
Jaws raw in 52, 56 & Taylor 60 degree Black rac this combo works great for me.
@@definitiveenergy1878 50S , 54x , then Jaws full toe for my 58
No miura?
Apologies if I missed something but seems like they should be in the mix
I wonder what our boy Johnny Wunder is gonna think of the boys saying they try not to sell the jaws raw and Mikey just crapping on them even though he hit them well with great dispersion 🤔
He sure did. #'s were great. Same goes for their other offerings. I've watched TXG long enough to pick up on their MEH attitude on Callaway clubs. Its NBD, just an observation.
I am baffled at how people can hit a 56 so far. I give mine a full swing and it pops straight up and maxes out at like 30 yards.
Look up how to get more compression. Try Eric congorno.
No lefty love for RTX Raw. Have to go Titleist. The only company who loves us lefties.
Dry wedges off mats is pointless. Why would you not make your wet club wet ball test mandatory? U must have gotten in trouble the 1st time u did it
Why no Bettinardi HLX 5.0 wedges. They don’t get the credit they deserve.
What about the most Potato Wedges of 2023? 😂
Seeing all these toe partial shots from Mikey wouldn't full toe head help him? Not knowing his open face specifics. It's not shame to use one.
I understand that you cannot try all… but not Ping?
No pings?
S23?
No sugar daddy?
No. I make my own cash.
Was hoping to see some Sugar Daddy's in the testing. Boo ☹️
Where is Ping? Come on ...
Were you not listening? He left them off because they're about to be replaced by a new model.
No PING!?!?! 👎🏼
Listen to the vid they explain
Problem w your test is. You only show what you get paid for….wheres PXG?????
