✈Cities Skylines - Airports DLC:
store.steampow...
#citiesskylines #biffaplays #newtealand
Those bus roads going into the terminal are not one way, the are asymmetrical roads… And the terminal building uses one way roads.
He missed the matching road on the second row to the far left. I notice he seems to ignore the second row a lot. :(
Those one way roads could be found using find it. Just type airport to search.
There is a oneway 2 lane+bus lane all one way. It was literally the next one along.
probably intentional. to get us to comment
New Tealand In-Tea-National Airport has to be the name for sure!
New Tealand In-Tea-National Teaport
yesss ofc
I was about to suggest it, but since you already suggested it, there's no point in me suggesting the same name again
Why not just "I.T.A?
That is the perfect name!
The circle concourse where the legs come out would have been nice. That's what I thought I saw in the real life airport. Usually there is shopping in an area like that.
Biffa, if you don't like the color of an asset, you can use Move It to "reset" it which will randomly pick the asset's color again -- lather, rinse, repeat until you get the color you want. All at no cost to you!
Was thinking there was an option to actually choose a color in the building settings, but I might be wrong..
@@nicdesmedt7443 There's a mod for that, Repaint. If you subscribe to that one, the option will appear when you look at the building details.
@@cjaliaga Can you use "Repaint" to change the colour and then unsubscribe it later to save RAM ?
Can't you just pick the color in the assets menu when you click on it? Or do you need a mod for that?
I was heading to the comments to say the same thing lol
i have a suggestion in the junction where it branches out just put a concourse hub it will look better
I was going to make this same comment. Also taxiways should have some shortcuts. Fill in grass with pavement using surface painter.
Same
It's only, like, the entire point of that building. And he still decides to do it ass-backwards.
There's a bunch of airport no-nos in there... The terminals are for public areas like check-in, baggage collection, and viewing areas before going through security. No airplane stands.
Then (following your inspiration) a short concourse would lead to a hub, not a concourse junction, and from the hub different concourses would spread out for national (small planes), continental (medium planes) and international (large planes) destinations. These concourses are where your stands are located.
Then you add taxiways _everywhere_ to create many options to reach the destination, don't force planes to roll past every single stand in the airport. Look at a satellite picture of a real airport, taxiways everywhere.
The DLC has problems, not letting multiple taxiways connect onto the runway, short planes don't need the whole runway to land and take off, and taxiways can be used both ways, but I guess the AI of the game would mess that up without tower control's instructions...
I agree there are a lot of issues with realism, but it’s still a fun DLC. So just imagine they take the runway they need not the entire runway.
It’s Biffa, he might as well be Helen Keller with the amount of stuff he misses, I swear I lose brain cells sometimes.
Finally we have the new TEATHROW airport!!!!
Beat me to it
Don’t name it that… it will slow the game down, reduce parking, increase in game costs, and force people to go around in circles. You’ll also need to make sure the motorway that connects to it is constantly jammed up.
Yeah this would have been my suggestion also! Haha
I was going to say this as well! Pick this one, pick this one! :)
I was about to suggest a name, but this one beats everything!!! This should be the name!
I’d typically expect there to be at least 1 taxiway going parallel across the whole runway, plus planes trying to enter some other plane stands further down would be forced to stop for the many other stands before the stand they’re using. I guess that’s why all the biggest airports in the world are 99% taxiway, for planes to bypass other plane stands to reach the one they have to use
I don't know if they've done this, I'm guessing probably not, but it would be nice if the Airports DLC made it so all the planes' wing lights didn't flash in perfect sync across the entire city, because that always looks really weird to me at night and it would be great if it was a per-vehicle thing instead.
I'd like to see some bypass lanes in the taxi way so the planes don't have to pass every bay.
I was for sure waiting to see some, disappointed.
The towers need to see the taxiways. They should be closer to the middle near the entrance.
Biffa change the bus road to 1 way, because the terminal is only one way. You have it is as 2 way road.
name suggestion: you know how airports are often named after people? so I suggest
Teaodor Earl-Gray (the 3rd) Airport or T.E.A
I'm not a expert but....
I've seen airports with 2 or 3 towers. And I know they have air traffic control then ground control so would ground control have its own tower?
add AIRTEAPOT instead of airport bcz it will just be a loss of opportunity. AIR-TEA-POT cz tea is made in pots. like why not? ;p
Finally, New Tealand is back!!!!
Indeed 😁👍
You should put one of those round shaped terminals in the middle intersection. It could make it look even better
16:10 It must be a complete Langoliers experience for those people in the airplane that's just taken off, to see the airport disappearing behind them
Stephen King fan!
Awesome movie reference!!
As an amateur pilot: This airport layout, especially the runway positioning is asking for collisions.
yeah i know right
Lovely video! Btw just a recommendation maybe the hotel area should have separate entrance road or area rather than having the same road if people going into the airport buliding only.
Teathrow Airport
Seconded. Teathrow! Teathrow!
a useless but nevertheless interesting fact, the "cargo airport" at 15:46 I believe is a military base. You can see the pentagram (shape of the PLA emblem) across the soccer/ track field. If you are lucky you might even be able to catch a glimpse of the Y-20 military transport airplane. At the height of pandemic it's quite common since they use it to transport medical supply
When you put the coconut tree's on the road, my first thought was, "Looks great, but what happens to a car windshield when a 1 pound coconut falls 30 feet onto it?"
And then I started wondering if coconuts were native to New Tealand. If they weren't, how'd they get there? Perhaps they were carried by a bird? But could a 5 ounce bird carry a one pound coconut... And then I completely lost my train of thought and started watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
🤣
This comment made me start watching Monty Python!!
You’ve the Kirk Space Port so you surely have to name the airport “The Jean Luc Picard Earl Grey In-tea-national.” or something to that effect. It’s international code can then be JLP :P
Then when you get your airline, it can be “Earl Grey Airways.”
It can't be a coincidence that "Heathrow airport" fits into THeathrow Airport.
When you had the fire Biffa, I wondered if there is a dedicated airport fire station as an asset yet? I think they may have missed a trick on the DLC by not having one!
31:32 Those are two-way roads you've connected to the one-way system built into the terminal :P
Coming along great though, looking forward to see how it evolves. Glad New Tealand wasn't lost!
Omg you know that small lake thing surrounded by rocks or smt do like a hotel or smt there and do some terraforming or smt to make a floating island cafe or whatever it’s called I’d love to see what it would look like you’re the best cities skylines RUclipsr!!!
As a pilot I would be rather concerned operating in and out of this airport, but loving the return to this city and the series! Would happy announce to my passengers we have safely arrived at Tea-terboro Airport! :-)
You're saying you wouldn't want to take off right in the direction of a space center?!?
As an American roadfan, a follower of route designations and patterns, I've done a bit of reading on the UK radial numbering system and the classification prefix.
I instantly thought of two things. All major numbered routes in New Tealand should be radial directly or indirectly from a central roundabout.
And, of course, should all have the prefix T.
28:24 realistically, you want traffic landing in the same direction or else its super dangerous!
@@automation7295
In real life one would never see planes going opposite directions on nearly parallel runways. The direction the planes would take depends on the where the wind is coming from, if there is wind, and if there isn't wind there is a preferred direction to minimize inconvenience to citizens. Airplanes take off or land into the wind to maximize the lift.
In a two runway scenario planes would either alternate taking off or landing on the runways in order to give extra time for the turbulence left behind a plane to dissipate or the airport would use one for landing and one for taking off, depending on the needs.
A bit of runway direction info, it is best practice to have planes landing and taking off while facing the wind. This is done so that less ground speed is needed to take off.
Awesome vid. Keep it coming please.
Good job no wind in cities Skylines 🤣
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines In other words runways in whatever direction looks best 😁
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines The windmill view is a lie?! 😁
40:38 "Tower to Flight 384. Captain, any reason you are reversing down the taxiway?."
🤣
For the sponsors: In-Tea-Nord-ial Airport. Could also call your airline HugoThere Air.
Nice work on bringing back New Tealand!!! Totally love it.
I would suggest getting a perpendicular extra runway and avoiding having curved taxiways. You could a taxiway parallel to the run ways and fit all the connections to it. Also put a middle connecting so planes don’t have to pass in front of all the terminal to get to their spot.
For the cargo you could use the dead end connection (someplace near where the first level airport used to be) and build it there.
I love all the added sound effects in this one! 🤣😂 they were great. Since this is modeled after the airport in Beijing, I suggest calling it either Oolong Int’l, Bei Leaf Int’l or Bei Tea-ng Int’l
That first flight was great!
ATC: "Clear for takeoff"
*Pilot applies throttle*
Flight Officer: "V1....V2"
*Pilot barrelling down the runway*
FO: "We can climb!"
*Pilot shakes his head*
FO: *Sweating profusely as the end of the runway rapidly approaches towards a bolder, the powerlines, and a huge body of water* "Up!"
Pilot: *Pulls up and starts his climb* "Biffa paid for this whole runway and we're going to use it!"
FO: *Punches his pilot in the arm*
The road system will be really interessting next episode. Such large airports have access to large highways.
Played a few times since Airports. Brand new city used building themes from the start. Don’t seem to be having any issues with themes on my end. 🤷🏻♂️
Nice to see new Tealand again! Can’t wait for more Blitea!
Teathrow sounds fantastic!
Phew! I have also been worrying about New Tealand for the last two weeks or so, at least after finding my very own city paralysed by the update. Btw, as a Chinese, I did feel a bit proud when you revealed the inspiration for your airport ;)
Airport is coming together 🔥, it is massive. Glad to hear i wasn't the only one having problems with the new DLC, it took me 3 days to figure out the problem (mod assets) in the end I disabled all en re-enable them.
Rooibos is such an underrated tea, and I love the Teathrow people are throwing out, so I propose TEATHROW-ROOIBOS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
Biffa, you don't plant coconut on streets directly, because the coconuts may fall on cars and people and damage/hurt them.
Lol oh yeah 🤣
You also don’t plant trees inside airport grounds (38:11). Mostly areas near airports are tree-less for a certain reason…
If you really wanna go for evil, we need to get someone to make a jackfruit tree assets. And then just plant them on all streets with parking. Those are the true car killers.
John F. Kenne-tea In-tea-national Airport seems a good one to me, Biffa.
Or, perhaps
Bess-tea Coleman In-tea-national Airport
in honour of pioneer Bessie Coleman. First African-American woman and Native American to hold a pilot's licence. And first black person to attain an international pilot's licence.
I have got a suggestion for your island with the space center on it. You see the sand dune infront of the island? On the sea side. Higher it to fully enclose the body of water and place pumping stations in it and make an extention of the island!
A cool name for the airport could be Fly-Tea, like high-tea. Good to see New Tealand back btw.
Hi Biffa... A tip I picked up from Few Candy...to change the colour of a building, go into move it and click on the reset tab in the menu
Grate video
Thanks time traveler 😁
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines i dont need to finish the video to know its going to be amazing
Heatearow airport?
or maybe Yorkshire International?
also, swapping the middle connection bit for a concourse would be quite nice in my opinion. Nicely done considering the limited tools in cities: skylines. Can't wait for the modding community to expand that toolset!
(edit, found out that others beat me to it with theathrow, should have gone looking through the chat first :-)
Biffa has allot of room for improvement on airport design. Looking forward to seeing his evolution.
Love it! All you have to do is highlight a lounge, or any building, with move it and use the reset object button. It will change the color randomly just as if you placed it. Someone probably posted this already, but would love to know more about what is/is not working on the workshop
As for a name: Portchateaux
Cha is Tea in Chinese (because the inspiration was a Chinese Airport), there's tea in ChaTEAux, and isn't that an old ruined Castle on one of those island a lil bit furter west? Feel free to alter it ofcourse if you like the idea.
Love the chateaux naming. Not only cha is tea in chinese (even tho its the most relevant here), cha is also Tea in Japanese and Portuguese. Now that's an international experience.
8:18 "I payed for the entire runway, I'm going to use the entire runway."
thanks for the video.
I was already disappointed about the missing monorail connectivity for this dlc.
Seeing the fire on the airport with no access for any ground based fire team ... makes me cry.
Even the tiniest real word airport has a local fire brigade directly attached to the airport.
Biffa. Most of not all airports around busy airports are built with noise in mind. The walls are thicker and design to mid agate as much sound as possible.
The concourses that comprise the elongated X shape in the middle should rotate so that the long axis parallels the two runways. This will leave more space for sensible taxiways, and you could extend all four piers. This configuration better utilizes the space between runways. Also, if you use the concourse hub in the middle of the X, you can connect to the main terminal via subway shuttle (making it a true midfield terminal) and eliminating the long concourse that currently connects them. (Alternatively, keep the long concourse as part of the main terminal and move the X closer to the other end of the runway.
In-TEA-National Airport sounds nice!
Teaport/teapot is the best name not only as a throwback but it just in general makes sense
I keep thinking that one of Tealand's Insurance Companies should be using the phrase "Get a Piece of the Rock" with the hovering rock pile as background.
Biffa, the airport could be named Welling-TEA-n International Airport since our capital city in New Zealand, Wellington, has one 😊
Hey Biffa! I’m playing a city with Realistic Population mod (meaning traffic from hell) and was running into massive traffic jams. But I managed to solve it with your tip: Lane Mathematics. Thanks!
I was worried when you started the airport with that super long runaway haha. Here's my points:
- The main taxiway is too close to the runaway.
- Would look nice and more realistic to split the taxiway after a few meters having it going to the different plane stands so you don't have the planes in one single line blocking each other (I mean closer to the stands)
- The runaways could be a bit shorter and I think would be nice thing and realistic if you add shorter ones still, maybe in parallel with the big ones starting after the terminals, with the taxi way in between. And also possible a shorter one at the end crossing the 2 big ones
The IATA airport code TEA is the Tela airport in Honduras. So you could simply go with Teala International Airport. Airline name suggestions could be Flightea, or Royaltea.
Create Park DLC areas inside those fenced off areas and place all sorts of children play zones in there. Maybe even a small amusement park as well (captive audience). This could even make the whole airport profitable.
You really need to build another taxiway before the plane goes out to the runway. Also a concourse as transition in the middle of the airport as point of transit between the entrance and the terminals.
I was so happy to see the new assets were available for the PS4, I bought them straight away.
I think I might start a new map and build a airport first the build the city around it.
May the chaos start. 😆👍
You can connect more oneway road to the other in order to cover most of the ground as long as you respect the way they have to go, planes will choose each time different and shorter paths. It will look nicer as more realistic details will be added and more concrete all over the airport..but great job. I will try today doing a similar multiconcurse airport
"New Tealand has survived!"
I totally give up playing for like a month when a major release comes out.
26:06 You can probably use the built in underground subway station to line up a road perfectly, I haven't tried it myself but I noticed it was there and it seems like the only "road" piece on terminals.
27:33 no you just make a road between them extending as far as you want the runways then you draw a new road off from that to mark the end of the runway and delete the first road then you can draw the runway between the two road guide-segments. Eyeballing things never works well in cities skylines, you of anyone should know that.
I feel like I have waited FOREVER for this episode!! So glad it’s finally here!! Great start on the airport, can’t wait to see all the extra details you come up with!!!
You can name it after the Wright Brothers, Wilbur and Orville...and your IATA code can be WOW...
And, though this is initial phase, I hope you build proper taxiways to move the planes around the gates...rather than have all of them follow one single path.
Keep up the good work 👍
WOW is already taken. Willow Airport, in Willow, Alaska.
I think you should definitely call it Richtea International Airport. The perfect biscuit for tea dunking
Looking great so far! What about adding in a cut in for the water in the centre area rather than the unused land as it would look more attractive and also bring back more of the natural island shape that we had before.
*Oolon'Tea International Airport*
Oolong is a type of tea
You may want to watch one of your medium aircraft as it passes the ends of the concourse with the closest taxiways, where they join the straight ones paralleling the runways. The wings overhang the edges of the taxiway and look close to clipping into your terminal there. Might give your passengers a bit of a startle when a wingtip pops a window out. *grin*
You could keep the Classic Terminal as part of the Modern Airport. The Antalya Airport, for example, kept its old Terminal when they built their much larger, modern Terminals. They now park planes around it.
Glad that u used Beijing Daxing Airport as your thumbnail, which is from my country. Big love from China
I think just as dedicated turning lanes runways should be paired for landing and gaming off.
Name suggestion: Amelia Teaheart Airfield
With respect to the houses and noise... I live under a runway approach (about 2-3km away) and it is MUCH quieter when they are landing over us than when they are taking off.
Biffa, please add a military base. You could use some of this DLC to add runways for "jets". The island needs some military power to defend against the aliens who may come back for their rocks.
It seems pretty appropriate as the real-life Beijing Daxing Airport also hosts an airforce base with one of its five runways dedicated for military use.
Oh! That's the Beijing Airport - absolutely beautiful inside =]
For the name of the airport, I was thinking "New Tealand In-TEA-national Airport". With an airport code of "NTI", or something like that... :)
When you unlock airlines, I think “Tea Leaf Airways”
Putting the concourse hub in the middle would look pretty cool
One day, I'd like to fly into the Oolong international airport, upon Earl Grey airlines. I hear it's steeped in mystery!
8:24 we pay for the whole runway we might as well use the whole runway
Woo Hoo like number 1.5K! Good on ya Biffa. I’ve missed New Tealand. Oh and the metal scratching sound when the planes collided made me laugh out loud. Thanks for the smiles.
The airport MUST be called tea-airia!
Suggested name for airport: Teathrow
Loving the incorporation of the new DLC into your existing build, I know you’ve had to go through the mill to get it all to work!
07:37 "Don't worry, Captain, we'll buff out those scratches"
Wonderful and inspirational build, thanks Biffa.
I saw Few Candy using the Building reset function of the Move It mod to change the color of buildings. It's easier and safes a bit of time and hassle.
Biffa: begins building an airport.
Also Biffa: shows Beijing Intl Airport as inspiration.
Lastly Biffa: quickly deletes his airplane club before more members join it 😂
Watching you built the runway, and the design of the runway gave me an idea.
You should build the palm island, Palm Jumaira
there is an island in new zealand called Timaru, which has an airport. maybe call the airport district Teamaru?
Those taxiways... I mean, it'll take 30min just to get from the runway to the furthest stand, and it's not even far. Give it more space, get some parallel taxiways along the runways, and multiple connections towards the stands.
Asked for this at the start of the serie!
TEATHROW !
The in'tea'national airport or international teapot as a throwback
Thought of this one straight away. "T.I.P.P.S Airport" -' Tealand International Passenger ( and) Parcel Solution'
Good gravy Biffa! Nice airport. I wonder if you could add 2 more runways and have 2 for landing and 2 for taking off
Name suggestion: Aerial Tea Port.
8:22 We paid full runway, we use full runway!
Being a Chinese myself, I love it! Here is an idea, can you instead of only increase the width of the end of the terminal, maybe you can also increase those in the middle, so that the nodes on the end can be wider. 😊
