    7:20 For the "experts", actual airport runway lengths are available from many places (I use AirNav for US and SkyVector for UK). Heathrow has two runways like Teathrow, and they're 3660 and 3900m long. That's two whole purchasable squares long. Each square is two km. A Big Plane looks a lot like a 747, and depending on while revision and how full it is, they need up to about 3000m to take off. Even a no-passengers, minimum fuel one takes about 1500m in a stiff headwind to get off the ground.
    And Heathrow's not even a really big airport. Chicago's O'Hare needs most of six squares to model in Cities Skylines, for its eight runways, four terminals, and on-grounds heliport.

    • @arandomdudewithhobbies3318
      @arandomdudewithhobbies3318 2 года назад +4

      True, but the entire city is more than 81km2 and 606.1km2. I understand that the scale is positioned to be 2km/square, but if you want to make a chicago airport to scale, the city also has to be in scale so probably using 2 tiles is actually reasonably large.

    • @hellsop
      @hellsop 2 года назад +1

      @@arandomdudewithhobbies3318 That's fine. But that's a completely different point that's just as incompatible with expert complaints that the airport is unrealistically large.

    Do consider reconfiguring the approach off the highway in conjunction with a realignment of the road into the airport that would cross it. A strait alignment with the cargo train road would allow for a single toll booth, and an elimination of the large roundabout, which would un-cramp your hanger/refueling area. Think about it.

    Hey Biffa, to control traffic on the 4-lane road between the cargo terminal and the railway station, try using lane restrictions. I ban all traffic except garbage trucks and SOS vehicles from the outer lanes, keeping them clear. Trucks that need to turn in there will still do so, but won't get snarled up in passing traffic, which is restrricted to the two inner lanes. That's a trick I use in all my heavy-traffic industrial situations.

    I love Biffa's videos. There is this strange dichotomy between realism and gameplay which, at times, makes watching 'exciting'. Example, Biffa drew in electric lines straight over an 'active' taxiway. Additionally, the road into the airport (and the fence) is easily within wingtips of any planes that would use those taxiways. Additionally, I am not sure you would see a runway that short for a Cessna, let alone some of the massive jumbo cargo planes in the DLC. I know I need to use some imagination and the game needs to be fun for Biffa, but CS is so close to a sim that it seems weird when 'normal' spacing and rules are not followed; thus 'exciting'.

  • @robsadler5605

    Might be worth experimenting with a connection from the cargo airport road to the second smaller roundabout. I think trucks might be going through the big roundabout just to get to the smaller one and through that to the highway.

    Little tip for cargo airports. You can place the large hangers directly over the cargo plane stands using anarchy mods. Snap the hangers to the taxiway and they fit perfectly with the airport cargo roads at the back.

  • @jayzo
    @jayzo 2 года назад +1

    Try the Touch it Mod on the other cities if you do the same as it might make the original taxiways accessible again.
    Now, what would've been awesome is if you left the original airport's runways there/rebuilt them as is because it wouldn't let you delete them, and built the cargo airport around it, as if the airport was retired from passenger use and just repurposed as a cargo-only airport, similar to how most airports in the UK based themselves on how they used to be WWII Airbases.
    Also some Airfield tips (I know you've already built one whoops I'm too late):
    You need a taxiway at the threshold (the end) and intermediate ones, both angled and perpendicular to allow aircraft to _exit_ the runway quickly to allow the aircraft following closely behind to land using the runway after a very short delay. (This isn't a game mechanic but Those angled "fast exits" are also used in a rejected takeoff to allow the aircraft to clear the runway quickly too for the same reason.

    - I love the rail loop, but it's prone to cause jam: tracks inside the station are 2way, not double 1way. Any train spawning here will block departing trains. What about both tracks 1way in, leaving on the other side with a 1way loop around the building, connecting back to 2way track?

    • @williamhuang8309

      They've always been separate assets. You can find them using the Find It! mod or by using Airport Roads. The DLC taxiways are a separate asset to the pre-DLC taxiway and runway assets. The more likely reason is that the taxiways were "unlocked" which means they've separated from the building.

    You should use that dead space by the train tracks as a train yard. With multiple tracks that end there and possible add parked trains.

    How about the _Eric_ _Ales_ Airport? (Tea bushes being of the order... ? Precisely.)
    A place for ordering tea.
    Oh, could probably do with a rail line looping back to the city rather just direct to/from outside but cool beans/top banana/etc... the place is looking good. Control tower maybe? I use a single, classic unit of the concourse to attach it to (being on console).

    Cool vid as always, but i still think you should build a rail and car tunnel through the mountain to better connect the two parts of the main island. Also i'd suggest to build some bay bridges, again, just for better interconnection.

    The Runways and taxiway of the sunset harbor airport didn't get demolished because (I guess) you had unlocked segments of networks from a building with touch this. I think it is normal, every time I unlock some road in a building, like a port or airport, and then demolish it, some residual network stay there, and the only way to remove them is moveit

    I used an Airport Train Station, and got trains coming and going on both sides. They each had tracks going to different places though, so I don't know if they use both sides if you just merge them onto one line.

  • @ChaosEIC

    Right now your Airport Trainstation can just deliver goods outside the city. Which does not make much sense. If you go to the cargo airport you want to bring in/take out goods via airplane. So it would be better to connect the train station to your other cargo trainstations rather than connecting it to the outside.

    Am I the only one who thinks it weird Biffa chose prime real estate for a cargo airport? Why is the cargo airport next to the downtown district and the pristine waterway that comes from the nature reserve he built a while back? Not to mention it's next to the super nice train station that should be near large populations of people. Love your work Biffa!
