Pink shirt guy totally gets it. I wish I'd had a similar attitude the first time I heard them. When I first saw the video for their song 'Doki Doki Morning', some years ago, I just thought hell, nope. I didn't give them another chance until early this year when I finally listened to some later stuff and realised the potential of mixing pop and metal as they do. I'm hooked now. And their live band slays.
It's funny to see Americans open the world outside the US. I'm not Japanese, I've never been there, I don't know why, but I'm proud of them. It's different, mix of speed metal and J-Pop. Anyway, it's maked extremely well, music, costumes, lighting, choreography, etc. It does not cause rejection, but admiration. Perfect band, perfect song. Pure masterpiece!

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. This was filmed in December 2013, the day after the lead singer's 16th birthday, (she is Su-metal). The other two girls (Yuimetal and Moametal) were 14. They started performing as BABYMETAL just 3 years earlier in 2010. In those 12 years they have grown to become the most successful Japanese band world wide. There are many bigger and better known bands in Japan, but outside of Japan those bands are virtually unknown. BABYMETAL opened the doors to the world when they started touring in 2014 and now we are finding out about so many more Japanese bands who are following BABYMETAL through those doors. The name BABYMETAL is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons: - to symbolise that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal) - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun): BABYMETAL = ベビーメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru) heavy metal = ヘビーメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru) Gimme Chocolate was the video that went viral and got them noticed and it has most views - mainly because of the reactions it gets so it gets passed around and recommended most, but it can go either way - some people are immediately put off by the "atatatatatatata dukyun" and look no further, which is a real shame as every other song is different and those people are missing out on something unique and incredible. It is a simple song for the most part, but they have many more songs that are more meaningful and most of them have a positive or uplifting message ... and all of them are different, they never get boring. For you to see just how young they were when they started try the official video for their very first song 'Doki Doki Morning'. That is another fun song. Nice job looking for some info about them but just in case I'm gonna leave this basic info for you, and trust me when I said you won't find any other group like them around, they're pioneers and thanks to them the Japanese gates opened up for all those J-rock and J-Metal female bands to the world. Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey. However this isn't actually live version, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute), mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, They are: *SuMetal* (lead vocals), 25 now. *MoaMetal* (scream and dance) 23 now. *YuiMetal* (scream and dance, former member since 2018) None of them are related. I'm a 50 year rock guitarist and this video was my entrance into eastern metal. I am a massive fan of BABYMETAL as well as BANDMAID, NEMOPHILA and LOVEBITES. I highly recommend you do 2 songs from this concert (Apocalypse 1997). They will be easier to show. Gimme Chocolate is usually blocked but not these. The songs are Headbangeeerrr and Road of Resistance. Both songs are backed by the real band called the KAMI band. These are GREAT tunes and you will witness some incredible crowd control as well. Gimme Chocolate is the most famous, or perhaps "infamous" song, since its the one that went viral and made them famous around the world, but its not really a good reflection of what they are capable of, and led a lot of people to write them off as a gimmick. They have many other songs in their repertoire that are much more technical and complex and which better showcase Su-metal's exceptional vocals. Some other songs you should definitely check out are: Headbangerrr!!!, Megitsune, Road of Resistance, and Karate. You seem to have picked up on the essence of what Babymetal is about, which is making metal fun and approachable for people who might otherwise shy away from metal music. Babymetal's creator and manager Kobametal wanted to create an idol/metal hybrid that would serve as a gateway to introduce people to metal.

Great reaction! I love how Ryan was instantly hooked. :-) Being called unique today is a great compliment, and they really are. I think most of us fans have started at that point where we couldn‘t understand how this could possibly work. I can say for myself that I still don‘t. It just does. They fuse all sorts of genres with Metal, and it‘s always amazing. I bet you‘ll learn to appreciate the voices eventually. After the third song you might find yourself listening to other Metal bands thinking „What‘s with those deep voices and serious facial expressions? And why are they just standing around? Get your legs moving, goddammit“. I seriously think that this is the epitome of live entertainment. I have been a fan of a few very famous bands over the years, like Iron Maiden, Metallica and Dream Theater, but I have never had that much fun with music (and especially live shows) before. They add so much to it that it‘s taken to a whole new level. This was actually studio audio over live footage, but I‘m sure you‘ll learn soon enough that watching a 100% real live performance is even better. My recommendation goes to „Headbanger“ from the „Legend 1997“ show.

You acquired the goofy BabyMetal smile. The girls are fire but fun, they bring out that smile in a lot of songs. The singer started out in Anime at like age 9 so you will get that feel in some songs.

When going to check out more (if you do, and you should as their sound varies from song to song but always good) stick with live performances, their music videos are good but they tune Su's voice and it loses a bit of its "power" I feel. This was most people's first exposure to Babymetal and a Renaissance moment for many. Denial, rejection, disbelief, horror, ah the horror and finally acceptance lol. Making 2023 their 10th anniversary technically!! Although have been together for 13!! They also just released two new singles, Devine Attack-Shingeki & Monochrome. _______________________________________________ Devine Attack-Shingeki also made Metal Hammer's best metal songs of the year list in a recent poll as well. Of course, Babymetal already has some significant accomplishments with Metal Galaxy reaching #1 on Billboard's Rock Album charts. A first for a metal band from Asia. Babymetal also recently collaborated with Bring Me The Horizon with Kingslayer. Which is actually one of Moa-Metal's favorite bands. It was an unexpected genius collaboration & a real banger. However, they have had quit a few collaborations which are really good, actually. Arch Ememy Allisa White-Gluz collaberated on "Distortion" in 2019. Then add Road To Resistance, which is pretty much their battle anthem at this point. _______________________________________________ Which was a collaboration with DragonForce at the time!! Well, I think we can welcome you to the One! It appears that you will be taking in more BABYMETAL in the future and, trust me, you'll be glad you did! "Gimme Chocolate" is arguably the video that put them on the radar. Now you could do one of two things: you can jump around like a flea on a hot brick and wander the foxhole reacting to this and that - which isn't a bad way of experiencing BABYMETAL - or you could go back to the egg: check out their very first MV (released in 2012!) "Doki Doki Morning" ( ruclips.net/video/cirhQ8iLdbw/видео.html ) then match it with the live version ( ruclips.net/video/5w8YN8AmHrg/видео.html ) and do that with each of their songs (many do not have MV's but there's a live version for virtually all of their songs). In short, travel the path that they and many of their fans took to get to where we are today. Nice reaction. Welcome to the foxhole. Babymetal genre is Kawaii metal. Put simply it's a metal base with pop vocals and whatever genre Babymetal feels like adding in the middle. They are at times way outside the box of every genre. But somehow retain an overall sound that as soon as you hear it. You know it's Babymetal. Some hallmarks of Babymetals music are a good positive message and fun. Tired of the boring I hate my life stuff. And want something up lifting. Babymetal has changed people's lives. They came along at the right moment. While their first album wasn't done until a couple of years after they formed. Babymetal was performing live on stage before the album came out. The entertainment company made them earn getting an album. They fought tooth and nail to get where they are today. Lucky for us they did. They have over 50 songs and a new album coming out in March of 2023. They already released two songs from it and have a 3rd coming next month. Babymetal is everything you want in music and somethings you didn't know you needed.
I find it a bit unfortunate that their most popular song that comes up first for reaction channels is, in my opinion, their least interesting musically... I guess it's because of the shock-factor :) But you should definitely check out more, because each of their songs is a different sub-genre of metal, they even have one written with Dragonforce! It's funny to see Americans open the world outside the US. I'm not Japanese, I've never been there, I don't know why, but I'm proud of them. It's different, mix of speed metal and J-Pop. Anyway, it's maked extremely well, music, costumes, lighting, choreography, etc. It does not cause rejection, but admiration. Perfect band, perfect song. Pure masterpiece!

You 2nd Babymetal Reaction has to be Headbanger legend 1997!
Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. This was filmed in December 2013, the day after the lead singer's 16th birthday, (she is Su-metal). The other two girls (Yuimetal and Moametal) were 14. They started performing as BABYMETAL just 3 years earlier in 2010.
In those 12 years they have grown to become the most successful Japanese band world wide. There are many bigger and better known bands in Japan, but outside of Japan those bands are virtually unknown. BABYMETAL opened the doors to the world when they started touring in 2014 and now we are finding out about so many more Japanese bands who are following BABYMETAL through those doors.
The name BABYMETAL is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons:
- to symbolise that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal)
- because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun):
BABYMETAL = ベビーメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru)
heavy metal = ヘビーメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru)
Gimme Chocolate was the video that went viral and got them noticed and it has most views - mainly because of the reactions it gets so it gets passed around and recommended most, but it can go either way - some people are immediately put off by the "atatatatatatata dukyun" and look no further, which is a real shame as every other song is different and those people are missing out on something unique and incredible.
It is a simple song for the most part, but they have many more songs that are more meaningful and most of them have a positive or uplifting message ... and all of them are different, they never get boring.
For you to see just how young they were when they started try the official video for their very first song 'Doki Doki Morning'. That is another fun song. If you would like something more meaningful try 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Bullying, No More, For Ever) live at Sonisphere in the UK 2014.

Yep, this is fire no doubt about it, you started with a song that is very divisive among first time listeners, you either hate it or love it, the risk of course is not liking and missing other amazing BM songs since their songs don't sound alike to another.
Nice job looking for some info about them but just in case I'm gonna leave this basic info for you, and trust me when I said you won't find any other group like them around, they're pioneers and thanks to them the Japanese gates opened up for all those J-rock and J-Metal female bands to the world.
Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey.
However this isn't actually live version, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute), mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, They are:
*SuMetal* (lead vocals), 25 now.
*MoaMetal* (scream and dance) 23 now.
*YuiMetal* (scream and dance, former member since 2018)
None of them are related.
This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_

I'm a 50 year rock guitarist and this video was my entrance into eastern metal. I am a massive fan of BABYMETAL as well as BANDMAID, NEMOPHILA and LOVEBITES. I highly recommend you do 2 songs from this concert (Apocalypse 1997). They will be easier to show. Gimme Chocolate is usually blocked but not these. The songs are Headbangeeerrr and Road of Resistance. Both songs are backed by the real band called the KAMI band. These are GREAT tunes and you will witness some incredible crowd control as well. Gimme Chocolate is the most famous, or perhaps "infamous" song, since its the one that went viral and made them famous around the world, but its not really a good reflection of what they are capable of, and led a lot of people to write them off as a gimmick. They have many other songs in their repertoire that are much more technical and complex and which better showcase Su-metal's exceptional vocals. Some other songs you should definitely check out are: Headbangerrr!!!, Megitsune, Road of Resistance, and Karate.
You seem to have picked up on the essence of what Babymetal is about, which is making metal fun and approachable for people who might otherwise shy away from metal music. Babymetal's creator and manager Kobametal wanted to create an idol/metal hybrid that would serve as a gateway to introduce people to metal.

Great reaction! I love how Ryan was instantly hooked. :-) Being called unique today is a great compliment, and they really are. I think most of us fans have started at that point where we couldn‘t understand how this could possibly work. I can say for myself that I still don‘t. It just does. They fuse all sorts of genres with Metal, and it‘s always amazing.
I bet you‘ll learn to appreciate the voices eventually. After the third song you might find yourself listening to other Metal bands thinking „What‘s with those deep voices and serious facial expressions? And why are they just standing around? Get your legs moving, goddammit“.
I seriously think that this is the epitome of live entertainment. I have been a fan of a few very famous bands over the years, like Iron Maiden, Metallica and Dream Theater, but I have never had that much fun with music (and especially live shows) before. They add so much to it that it‘s taken to a whole new level.
This was actually studio audio over live footage, but I‘m sure you‘ll learn soon enough that watching a 100% real live performance is even better. My recommendation goes to „Headbanger“ from the „Legend 1997“ show.

"Gimme Chocolate" is "just" a fun song about the girls wanting to eat chocolate and being worried about their weight and such things with kawaii vocals but the instrumentals are so freaking metal and the juxtaposition of genres is the point of the song (totally intended) and the reason it went viral in 2014.

Devine Attack-Shingeki also made Metal Hammer's best metal songs of the year list in a recent poll as well. Of course, Babymetal already has some significant accomplishments with Metal Galaxy reaching #1 on Billboard's Rock Album charts.
A first for a metal band from Asia. Babymetal also recently collaborated with Bring Me The Horizon with Kingslayer. Which is actually one of Moa-Metal's favorite bands. It was an unexpected genius collaboration & a real banger.
However, they have had quit a few collaborations which are really good, actually. Arch Ememy Allisa White-Gluz collaberated on "Distortion" in 2019. Then add Road To Resistance, which is pretty much their battle anthem at this point.

Su-Metal was 16 in that performance & is one of their best i think. Their first performance, however, was at SummerSonic at 12 lol. So this wasn't their earliest here. Anyways, their 2023 tour kicks off on January 28 & 29th.

Well, I think we can welcome you to the One! It appears that you will be taking in more BABYMETAL in the future and, trust me, you'll be glad you did! "Gimme Chocolate" is arguably the video that put them on the radar. Now you could do one of two things: you can jump around like a flea on a hot brick and wander the foxhole reacting to this and that - which isn't a bad way of experiencing BABYMETAL - or you could go back to the egg: check out their very first MV (released in 2012!) "Doki Doki Morning" ( ruclips.net/video/cirhQ8iLdbw/видео.html ) then match it with the live version ( ruclips.net/video/5w8YN8AmHrg/видео.html ) and do that with each of their songs (many do not have MV's but there's a live version for virtually all of their songs).
In short, travel the path that they and many of their fans took to get to where we are today. You'll find good songs and ones that aren't so good, you'll find triumph (Sonisphere 2014) and tragedy (the departure of Yuimetal in 2018 and the unfortunate death of Mikio Fujioka, guitarist of the BABYMETAL backing "Kami Band"), you'll find Black BABYMETAL, and you'll find that although BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal"), they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box. They have only a bit over fifty songs and you're sure to find them all most entertaining. Another thought - take in all of BABYMETAL's music videos first, then move on to live performances.

Be advised that this list is NOT from best to worst (as if BABYMETAL has any "worst" songs); they are listed in order of appearance on each of their three albums ("BABYMETAL", "Metal Resistance", and "Metal Galaxy"). In fact, it is that concert from which this MV "Gimme Chocolate!!" was taken. I also think it would be interesting if you reacted to the entire Legend concert!
Finally, I suggest that you avoid compilation and fancam videos like the plague: compilation videos are, in my opinion, an insult to both the viewer and the band; the music is certainly overdubbed, and the changes in venue and costumes (sometimes even personnel) can be confusing if not completely annoying. Watching a BABYMETAL compilation video is like eating prime rib after somebody else chewed it. You won't be reacting to BABYMETAL, you'll be reacting to a highlight reel of BABYMETAL. And fancams generally have terrible quality and sound thus being basically a waste of time.

Nice reaction. Welcome to the foxhole. Babymetal genre is Kawaii metal. Put simply it's a metal base with pop vocals and whatever genre Babymetal feels like adding in the middle. They are at times way outside the box of every genre. But somehow retain an overall sound that as soon as you hear it. You know it's Babymetal. Some hallmarks of Babymetals music are a good positive message and fun. Tired of the boring I hate my life stuff. And want something up lifting. Babymetal has changed people's lives. They came along at the right moment. While their first album wasn't done until a couple of years after they formed. Babymetal was performing live on stage before the album came out. The entertainment company made them earn getting an album. They fought tooth and nail to get where they are today. Lucky for us they did. They have over 50 songs and a new album coming out in March of 2023. They already released two songs from it and have a 3rd coming next month. Babymetal is everything you want in music and somethings you didn't know you needed.
I find it a bit unfortunate that their most popular song that comes up first for reaction channels is, in my opinion, their least interesting musically... I guess it's because of the shock-factor :) But you should definitely check out more, because each of their songs is a different sub-genre of metal, they even have one written with Dragonforce! "Road of Resistance" that is, very much worth to check out!

The guy on the right (Tyler?) is picking up the choreo and words pretty quick. You guys should do a dance cover. You should react to more Babymetal, watch the live performances though, they are almost always the best. Megitsune and Karate music vids are good too though.
