I agree as funny as this is there are so many clips even funnier. The HBO show, any I stallment of Monkey News, any Rockbuster that Ricky gets mad about, and anytime Karl and Merchant go at each other. Some of the funniest things.
Carl was a radio producer and was assigned to Ricky many years ago when he was doing his podcast. Ricky loved his personality so he brought him onto the podcast and he’s just a grumpy dude who has very little patience for Ricky lol. Dave taken snippet of the podcast and animated. It called the Ricky Gervais show. They’ve also sent Carl around the world under miserable circumstances called idiot abroad.
Honestly guys Karl Pilkington is being himself … you have to listen to the diary of Karl Pilkington… it’s the funniest thing I have ever listened to but maybe you have to be British to get it fully, I don’t know
So glad to see your happy smiling faces again. We all think of you at what must be a truly frightening time. I hope that any loved ones back in Lebanon are safe and well. Keep the faith. The right thinking world is with you and Gaza at this time. Great reactions as usual. You both love each other - use that strength. Love John
Karl Pilkington was acting in a police drama on BBC television tonight, it was called Ludwig. He played it straight, he was in a short scene but convincing.
Karl was Ricky's radio producer at XFM but Ricky and Steve (Merchant) were amazed by his opinions on things and he got drafted in... Karl has had a load of his own shows on TV since.
Hey, fellow linguist here with a lot of exposure to English: To thump is an onomatopoetic word for hitting something with something heavy and solid so it makes a dull sound like "thump", but in casual contexts you can also just use it as a more powerful-sounding alternative for "hit", as Karl does here. I'm not surprised you don't know this word because it's slang and not technical jargon and thus doesn't have a clear-cut definition because people don't really think about what specifically makes up a thumping versus a pounding, they just choose what feels right in the moment. Also, "'alright" is a common casual greeting where Karl is from, but it doesn't really help him become more animated because he barely moves his mouth when saying it 😅
The most funny man, without even trying.. My favourite person.. Karl Pilkington ! "Meet Karl Pilkington " (1 and 2 ) is great to watch after.. They made a animated podcast "The Ricky Gervais Show", is one of my favourite things to watch..the cartoons are Top and make the podcast even better ! Also, they decided to send Karl around the World (An Idiot Abroad), where he started in China (that is why he was talking about chinese).. Totaly recomend both, (The Ricky Gervais Show, and An Idiot Abroad), but after this "lesson", the best to see a bit better how his mind works, "Meet Karl Pilkington" is the best way...
😄 Just remember that Karl actually thinks....that this is a real learn English programme. While Ricky knows full well this is just a wind up! Brilliant! And while Karl thinks that...he is actually acting like it's a real travel guide for Chinese people. London Eyye. It's basically "the worst English lesson ever" (as Ricky remarks) and, unsurprisingly, the worst real travel guide for Chinese people. An improv comedy masterpiece like no other and a high totem of British humor. Endlessly rewatchable.
Oh yes! Love you two and so glad you get into the Gervais and Karl stuff. Hours of fun with these pair. Idiot Abroad would be perfect for your reaction. Stay safe and love your Flanagan and Led Zeppelin stuff 👍
Karl pilkington is British comedy royalty ! hes done some hilarious shows , The Rick Gervais show , Idiot Abroad 3 seasons , The moaning of life. Everybody loves him hes just so funny while not even trying to be funny.
Hi. I agree with all the others, you HAVE to do 'The Ricky Gervais Show'. Animated 3 series of pure gold, 13 episodes per series. They annoy Karl SO MUCH. IT IS HILARIOUS, YOU'LL LOVE IT. ❤❤🇬🇧
Great to have you back I hope you managed to sort things out I know you were worried as were we Have a fantastic day from David East Anglia Coast England 🎬📽️🎙️💙♥️💫😎🌊🌪️🕊️
Poor Karl. Ricky has tortured him for years. (they are great friends) Karl had his own TV show called An Idiot Abroad. Ricky sent him to lots of different countries and made him suffer. 😂
Yes, Ricky Gervais show with Karl Pilkington and Stephen Merchant is amazing, same comedy as you see here. Also Idiot Abroad where they sent Karl around the world.
Guys if you want a good introduction to Karl Pilkington you can find 'meet Karl Pilkington' part 1 and part 2. Ricky Gervais interviews Karl about different subjects like race and disability. It's very funny just like this video. There is also an idiot abroad which is a great show and the Ricky Gervais show which is a podcast made in to a cartoon which also has Karl's world views another very funny show..Once you start to watch these I guarantee you will love Karl he's hilarious 😂
I've never heard Ricky laugh so loud, so hard, or so much. I've never heard of that Karl guy, but anyone who can make a professional comedian crack up gets props.
@@bobbyshaftowenttosea5410 Frankly, if this "English Lesson" video is indicative of what he usually does on his own, I'm not impressed. The thing that made it funny for me was Ricky's infectious laughter. Without that, this Karl guy is like a sitcom without the laugh track. If he has better to offer than mere disgruntled deadpan disdain and sarcastic stoicism, I may change my mind, but so far, I'm not impressed. Sorry if that offends.
@@BlackieNuffNot at all. I agree. They'll be watching " The Ricky Gervais Show" next. An animation of Karl talking + Ricky laughing. " Stop, stop, I'm gonna burst"
@@BlackieNuff You just haven't "got" him yet. It will all depend on that. The three of them together are a comedy goldmine, you just have to be used to the fact there are no jokes, just Ricky and Steve poking and prodding and bringing out his reaction to things. Once you're in, the laughs will come and there's about a hundred quotes that only those in the know will get.
@@minbari73 Yeah, you're probably right. Seems to be an acquired taste or something that requires a little more exploration to be understood and appreciated.
It is, as you guessed, completely improvised. Karl was in charge of the sound department as a member of Radio XFM production team when Ricky and he first met. Ricky recognized his natural comedic talent which mostly consisted of dry humour, and the best part is, the most of the time he does not even try to be funny, he is just being his normal self. He is an individual with relatively low formal education, but quite strong opinions,he has no trouble at all voicing them out, and his thought process is so chaotic that it takes some time convincing him they are not the facts. The best way to take the comedy out of him, by the way, is to piss him off and make him grumpy and miserable, which Ricky didn't have any trouble doing. xD I suggest you to watch Idiot Abroad, Meet Karl Pilkington or Ricky Gervais Show(Animated version. Basically Ricky, Karl and Steven merchant talking) as an introduction to this living legend of a man. Also I suggest you to react to one of these masterpieces, if not all of them. They are absolutely hilarious.
@@minbari73 I agree that the original radio shows are better introduction than Ricky Gervais show animated version(It's a sin for leaving it out from the list, it was not intentional. xD) But I would not classify people who started with XFM shows "real fans", just more lucky than the others to discover it first. To be honest, personally, as a non-native English speaker, the animation helped me connect the dots a bit because I could barely understand what Karl was saying back in the days(And Ricky's loud laughter didn't help at all. xD) and he is the biggest reason why the radio show was so hilarious. I'd say both are worth a watch(or rather listen when it comes to the XFM shows), but, yeah, I agree that XFM should be checked before Ricky Gervais show.
You guys will learn that you can never anticipate what Karl Pilkington says. Happy you guys are reacting to him…..should check out an idiot abroad they’re quite long though.
I feel like you two should've watched the introduction to Karl Pilkington first, but essentially the TLDR - Karl was just a sound producer on a radio show Ricky and Steven Merchant worked at, they realised he saw the world through an odd perspective, and was a little 'simple' so they started getting him involved in the radio show, then interviews like this, then a few shows like 'An Idiot Abroad (1, 2 and 3)' and he then became somewhat a household name and had his own show 'The Moaning of Life'
Karl is not playing a character that is what he is like in real life. Ricky used to be a radio DJ and Karl was his producer. One day he put the microphone on Karl and asked him questions - what came out was hilarious!
OK, so, here's the challenge: now you have to go visit some friends and tell them what you just watched. Good luck. -- And maybe, if you are really lucky, this is part of a 23-episode series of lessons.
I can see that they have no idea who Karl Pilkington is. I am sure they would soon go down the rabbit hole of "The Idiot Abroad" and his other hit series.
Gervais is a comedian and Pilkington was just a radio producer that used to work for him at his radio show. Gervais eventually realized that Pilkington was unintentionally hilarious and started including him in his radio show more and more often, to the point that Pilkington became an integral part of it. After that Gervais did many projects with Pilkington, simply because he found him extremely funny. But Pilkington is not acting, he is not an actor or a comedian, he is just some guy that happens to be extremely funny without intending to, and he himself doesn't realize why he is so funny.
