  • One of our machines went down at my last place of employment and I took a bunch of videos and pics of how I went about doing the repair.

      Thanks Ed, glad you enjoyed it. This is the type of work and machines I spent most my machining career working on. Boy would I love to own some big machines like these. It not so much the cost of the machines, it's the cost of the spot to put them lol

    Good job Jay, remember back in the early nineties our Richards HBM, early fifties model stripped the nut.
    It had an unusual thread pitch that our lathes could not duplicate, we had to send it out to a shop that could perform the task.

      Thank you. We're pretty versitile here, especially in the turning department. So not too often we stuck sending stuff out. Because of our machine invintory, we're usually who shops send stuff to. We can turn up to 20 foot diameter parts, 10 feet long and the Leonard lathe could 68" diameter up to 28 feet long.

    That turned out very well. It must have gotten rid of a lot of backlash ( Come to think of it I guess the original nut ended up with infinte backlash.). I bought a used Fexac horizontal mill about 6 years ago and had to make three new leadscrew nuts for it. However, they were much simpler than the one you made here. Mine were round on the OD with a flange at the end for mounting. Ken

    Man that lead nut is beautiful. Looks like you got every penny out of the old one too. Nothing wrong with that 👍

      Thank you. Yea we got the most of that one lol. I believe that machine is a 1978. It's about to retire though. Company has just replaced the big Union floor type HBM that was in the begining photos with a brand new Correa floor typ HBM. The old Correa mill I used in the video was replaced with a brand new Correa a few years back and the vertical in the vid was replaced by a 120" Toshiba vertical turning center and a second 60" vertical tunimg center. New Lathe is on the way and next in line is this ole Kearns Richards. Won't be too many old machines in there soon. Company has spent around 11 million dollars on the four new machines installed and running. Not sure about the lathe thats showing up amd will ne a couple years till the Kearns is replaced. Wish I had that kinda bread to spend on machines lol

      @@whiplashmachine Just have to finish a few more bloacks then you can get that F80 rottler!

      @whiplashmachine  Год назад

      @@bcbloc02 Be nice, that's for sure. But for what they cost, I think I'll probably go with more of a manufacturing milling machine as you get way more for your money. If I had the space I could of had the old Correa for 5k. Prolly won't find a deal like that again but those Nicolas Correa bed mills are still quite available and way cheaper. Can get two or three for the same price as a used F series Rottler. I don't need the fancy interface to bore a deck an engine block square. 2nd & 3rd year apprentices where I worked get more complicated jobs than that lol.
