    • @whiplashmachine
      @whiplashmachine 5 дней назад

      The earlier years were a bit thicker but had shorter decks and lots of inconsistency in deck heights and core shifting. Your 72 would be a good one as it's not super thin like the late models and has the factory target of 9.025" on the decks. Which give room for squaring.

      @@edsmachine93 oh I hear you👍 Not to one up you here but I have turned in thousands. Ten years in very busy automotive machine shops servicing garages, dealers and backyard wrenches. Plus we had a huge parts division. So many would bring their rotors and drums in for inspection and if not worth turning because of condition or cost comparison to new, we would sell them a new one.right tjen and there. But I turned dozens a month, every month.

      @@edsmachine93 Hi Ed. Yea, these older ones are always fun to see how out they can be. So far for me it has been the 60's big block Chevys that have been out the most. Especially 396/402 engines. Explains why so many intakes broke the bolting ears off back in the day Even the intaks had incorrect angles. I just recently trued up a pair 427 tri power intakes that wouldn't seal and both of them were a few degrees off from 90°

    Your truing fixture is defintielely put .010. There is no way a mass production jig at Chrysler would be out that far.

    • @joey66436
      @joey66436 3 месяца назад

      I would trust the jig. You don't know the history of the engine, it may have been decked by a shop badly in the past, and even if it wasn't not everything that left the factory was 100%

    • @whiplashmachine

      This comment just proves you have never measured blocks before

    • @whiplashmachine
      @whiplashmachine 3 месяца назад

      @@joey66436 I absolutely trust my fixture. I have inspected it with multiple machines to ensure it is true. I am the first one to manipulate this block. The fact is was out roughly 0.010" over that distance from the centerline means very little to the production blocks. They vary greatly and the older they get, the more out to lunch they become. Some of the Chevy engines from the 60's and early 70's are out so far, you wonder how the intake gaskets even sealed. By late 70's, the blocks start to measure much better and by late 90's they are usually pretty damn close. But still not as good as they could be and since I need to run a dial accross the decks anyways for my setups, might aswell try to pin it ss close as I can
