Les is pushing out some of the most quality content on RUclips right now. Nobody is doing it too this level. Really enjoy these. What a inspiration this guy is
I binge watched original episodes, know I have started binge watching director's commentaries. ))) Les Stroud is very addictive )))There are so many channels out there now, but one wouldn't want to watch'em even twice. Magic! Classic!
I remember watching episodes of this on TV as a kid, then I come to RUclips 21 years old to see he's uploading new episodes to RUclips now. Amazed is an understatement for how I feel.
Les, your work on isolationism has helped frame in my mind the relevance of sociology and rewrote the order of disciplines birthed from the experiences of humans throughout history. Your work, specifically in your Beyond Survival series, places important focus on the first peoples synergizing of ideas, and has inspired within me my own trek for genesis. Thank you, I appreciate your work, and respect the life you've lived and the knowledge you've gained and shared with the world.
The first one hasn't premiered yet and we already have another lined up! I think Les is the first Director being so involved with his fans and in this way; sharing free content, giving amazing information and insider details, he doesn't even monetize the video's with hundreds of ads. We should consider getting his books/other content.
I have watched every single of your episodes when they aired live AND another 99 times after that I always still pick up on something I didn't see. Now with this. It's so uplifting. Especially being disabled and can probably woop butt at a survival challenge. Thanks for these videos. Absolutely amazing
Oh my God Les I love you so much. As a millennial thats been watching you since I was 10 years old i’m 26 now and still big of a fan as ever these are amazing not only for The masses of people that are just going to see you for the first time for your true fans and the long Super fans that have been watching for 15 years plus I just want to say from the bottom of my heart thank you so muchYou have no clue what you’re doing for us from a fans perspective And glad RUclips is compensating you for it u deserve it!!! Much love brother keep up the good work its truly amazing like Being a kid again And going back into my childhood
You're show was one of the best shows at keeping me relaxed and interested when i was a kid. It's funny but i probably would not have turned out the same if i didn't watch so much Survivorman and Mythbusters as a kid. Thank you Les and i hope i get to meet you one day.
One of my favorite parts of how Les presents in his films (like the thorn tree part of this episode), is his calm, even soft, voice tone and volume. I'm sure sometimes it's for dramatic effect, or for other cinematic reasons, but honestly, it makes me much more receptive to the information he's sharing... far more effective than some jackass screaming or shouting about nonsense, while surrounded by crew and cameras. Always felt this was well done Survivorman! 👏
Les, you open one of your productions with a very great quote I am having trouble remembering exactly and have since forgotten which production it was what I can remember is something close to "I dont fear the big scary animals, I dont fear the rain or the cold... I fear the wind".......... Please help this has been driving me crazy for a month now!
Hello from Idaho! I grew up watching Survivorman since I was quite young, enjoying it with my father. We would go out hunting, and just end up building a shelter in pretending like we were in a scenario like Survivorman. Now my dad and I love to get together to watch these directors commentaries. I just want to say thank you Les for doing these epic directors commentaries! Looking forward to the further episodes!
Hahaha young Les poking into hornets nest 😂😂😂 this is so funny because I know wise Les wouldn't do that anymore, but everyone learn through the experience and this was definitely one of those
Dunno how you managed to keep the rights to these. But im glad you did. Been letting friends know these are here. U should be at a few million subs. This show was great.
Just in time. My recommendations list was getting stagnant. Thanks for doing these Les. I worked as a grip, as a younger man, and it’s always interesting to hear what it took to put these shows together.
This is why Less Stroud is the Original And Also the Best ...... when i watch the Episode i Feel like im right There with Less ..... just like the best movies pick you up and take you Along for the ride.... When the copy cats do it it is still EnterTaning .... But it Dont Put Me on the EDge of My Seat Like Survivorman ......
Thanx Les for making all of your content available here! And thank you so much for the integrity and honesty you put into everything you do. Please keep entertaining and informing us for another twenty years!

7am and this is my morning briefing with coffee. Because I've watched all survivorman seasons through beginning to end twice already and now I get to hear about them? Amazing.
That tip about loosely tying a cool, wet bandana around the neck is a real gem. I use that one regularly during the summer if I'm out golfing and it's saved me from overheating on many occasions.
I've seen all of the episodes, but now it feels like I'm watching them all again for the first time. Thank you so so much for doing this. I've often commented to my kids about how different it would be if you were filming this today and not 15 years ago based on how much the camera gear has changed, memory cards instead of tapes, better batteries, smaller high def cameras etc
The thing that annoyed me t he most about Man VS Wild was that as a kid, I totally fell for it. I attribute that to growing up watching Survivorman where everything was real and the advice was golden. So when Man VS Wild came on TV I thought "Oh okay he has a crew with him but they're obviously not helping him, still pretty cool!" then all that crap came out and I felt like a total jackass. It was just blatant lying to the audience for YEARS! Really glad to be able to watch the REAL stuff again for free on RUclips, thank you Les.
Les just so you know me and the boys always liked you more then…Well you know who! Was a tradition to fish all day and come home and watch survivorman and we’d cook up the fresh fish we caught that day and would sit down and eat and watch you survive! Was a sad day when you were no longer on the air!
Les, I've been really enjoying these commentaries. It's nostalgic to rewatch and I absolutely love the insight into funny hiccups or stories behind certain scenes. Most of what you talk about I had questions about here and there when watching. If you dont mind the question, you have quite the scratch there on your eye. Is there a crazy or funny story about how that happened?
38:15 most hives have a guard or 2. They usually don't send out everyone. They usually have 1 or 2 that can fend off the danger. It's when they sting and come back and say, "we got a problem here." Usually, only the guard will check out the danger if it gets too close. The whole swarm comes after the nest has been alerted. You can even see a couple hornets just chill like "are we supposed to do something?"
Les, you were my biggest inspiration. I have been following your journey since the beginning. I would love see another session of the original survivor man or beyond survival.
Small observation: The audio from the commentary sound source is clipping. It is hitting the red on virtually every sentence. I don't know if the mistake happened during recording, or if the track was bumped up over the red during edit. If it happened during edit, the video could be re-uploaded with a normalized commentary track. It's a small thing, but it would've made the experience a little more enjoyable. Regardless, many thanks for this amazing Director Commentary series.
39:20 Rags are one of the most useful things to have on-hand in any situation. Not quite up there with rope and a knife, but high on the list, for sure.
It never ceases to amaze me the places Les will go without a firearm. I get that he doesn't like killing things, but just like killing something for food, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. It's one of the two main reasons why America has the right to bear arms protected in our Constitution. Self defense is a human right, and with that comes the right to choose what defense methods you want to use. I personally wouldn't go somewhere with large predators like that without at least a pistol, and I'd take an AR if at all possible.
Imagine a Bear Grylls commentary on his stuff: "Well, you see here I had the production crew soak this elephant poop in water so I could squeeze it out". "Ah, I remember when this shot, I was at my hotel while the camera man got this amazing night sky". "Oooh ooh ooh, I was ALMOST there while they did this but I just had to take a nap in the trailer. But still the footage is awesome!". Thank you Les for all of these and the integrity you showed over the years.
I love these videos. Thank you so much brother Les! I drink some cold beers, order some pizza, and enjoy these director's commentaries. It's really cool to learn how the producing and filming techniques evolved as the technology evolved in the mid 2000's. I have been a video camera buff for years. I see Les was using the Sony HDR-HC3, HC5, HC7, and HC9 cameras. Those ran on tapes. I even had the clear waterproof housing for them. Massive enclosures. Lol. The SD cards were such an upgrade from the HDD cams. Seeing Les in the Transylvanian Alps with GoPro cameras shows how far the tech has improved. Instead of having to lug around 60-70lbs of gear, he could travel so much easier with half that weight. Can't wait for the next one! Watch, learn, and share these gems everywhere. 🗡🤘🇺🇲🇨🇦⚔
Les: "I'm going to survive in the African outback for seven days, alone, with only what I have available." Also Les: "I have a flamethrower." Don't get me wrong, this is one of my favorite episodes, and I love the realistic setup of being stranded in a downed balloon. Still pretty funny.

I was camping on the Sunshine Coast in BC near Gibsons on a hillside overlooking the water, and the spookiest thing about the whole experience was the local pod of wright wales I think, maybe Orcas, surfacing and blowing out air. The sound carries extremely well and it cosistently sounded like a VERY large bear or moose making threat exhalations (loud chuffing like breathing to warn others) right outside my tent.
