Les, I gotta tell you. You saved my bacon 15 years ago when I found myself lost in the Pasayten Wilderness. I was on a 2 week solo trip, and went down the wrong river drainage. As soon as I realized what I had done, I stopped in a clearing. I took stock of what I had with me. I was fully set up for another week on the trail, so I was safe right then. I decided to make camp, relax, study my maps, and THINK. The next day I got to a trailhead and hitched a ride to the nearest town. I kept hearing your voice in my head. Don't panic. Set up your shelter. Figure out where you are. Then figure out how to get to a road.
@@jms5c8who are you talking to ? Les? This is the commentary edition.. you can watch the episode in full w out anyon this RUclips channel. He has made that very clear many many times . This is for all of us that have watched all the episodes; likely many times , and want more

Keeping the shots in that showed you retrieving/setting up cameras was 100% the right decision. It made your show really stand out. and proved its legitimacy compared to certain other survival shows.
These Directors Commentaries have been an amazing way to revisit these episodes from my younger days. Les adds so much context and makes me appreciate the episodes on an even deeper level. Thanks Les!
Hey Les, you'll probably never see this but Iv been watching your content since I was about 18, and I'm now 37. I didn't think your content could get any better, and you go and start doing Directors commentary. Thank you so so much for the years of top notch entertainment. You have made a life long fan. Next is your Wild Harvest series, can't wait!
Been a long-time fan of yours, Les. Was born in 94, and I'll never forget sitting in my parent kitchen with my bowl of cereal and just being so happy to catch each new Survivorman episode as a kid. It was my favorite show back then, and it still is now. Fingers crossed, we may get some more one day, but for now, absolutely loving these directions commentaries. From a kid from West Virginia, thank you so much for being part of making my childhood wonderful
As an Ontarian, and one who is now 30, and has watched you since i was a young lad. It brings me immense joy knowing you're from Ontario. I've loved everything you've done ever since i was little and while i may not be an outdoorsman, your shows are such a fantastic learning experience and something i hope to share to anyone who will watch from the younger generations. You really deserve to be part of every school curriculum across North America, Canada for sure at the very least. You are providing some of the greatest teachings from across the planet for people to learn and use to survive if in dire straits. Please continue being amazing.
I’m a year younger than you but I’ve been watching Les on his adventures since at least high school…I’ve always loved his work and something was just so unique in survivorman that I couldn’t find anywhere else! This show is one of a kind…often imitated but never duplicated!
I've lost count of the number of guys for whom Les was something of an extra father figure and remain grateful into adulthood as they share with their own kids. One of the most rewarding comments sections of any channel. I grew up with Ray Mears on British TV who will forever be the OG but Les is infinitely more watchable and insightful out in the field. Splendid watching!
I come back and check the sub count on this channel weekly. Les said he would have to get to a million subs to think about doing some survivorman episodes on here. I need that in my life. Also need more Bigfoot commentary.
This man is my biggest influence. I've watched Les since the first Survivorman episode years ago. His filmmaking and music are the very reasons I have grown my own youtube channel.
I grew up watching this show with my dad, and I think it played a big part in shaping my character and especially my love/appreciation for the Canadian outdoors. What you have taught in your show I use all the time when I’m backcountry hunting or hiking and actually got me out of a bad situation once. Cheers
I love seeing your directors commentaries pop up on my feed. it's the first thing I do when I see one go live. I can't wait to see the Beyond Survival episodes.
I like falling asleep and picking back up where I left off the next time. A very relaxing listen to a Directors Cut. It does not put me to sleep because of it being boring, just very relaxing to watch and listen too.
56:08 "If you can see Christmas trees, that's a ton of great bedding material." Can we appreciate that this was posted around Christmas time, and Les is just thinking "Hey, they make good bedding." 😄 Thanks for all the great content, Les. I've been watching you since the beginning.
Grew up watching Survivorman with my cousin at my nana's house... Thank you for enhancing my childhood and providing these commentaries for the behind-the-scenes :)
I absolutely grew up on your shows. I'd say they took a large role in shaping my love of the outdoors and my decision to go into an outdoor-related career field. So absolutely, thanks for that.
That jaguar scene was some of the most dramatic television, because it was REAL, I have ever seen. Just incredible, and your instinct on the lack of music was correct. The entire essentially undramatic delivery of such a dramatic tale, especially WHILE IT WAS STILL HAPPENING, was remarkable. And probably the core of it is the absolute possibility that a very big kitty might decide you are food to play with.
To reiterate your point, and many others, I've been watching you since the very first episode on Discovery..... and yes since I was young. lol. Les, you're a true hero. Keep up the awesome work!
I just wanna say, touching on a point you brought up, I'm 32, grew up in the PNW, grew up watching you, I still frequent your channel, and now I watch it with my 3 kids who get a blast out of it and play survivorman in the woods, trying to build shelters or just walking along performing monologues about what they're seeing. Thank you for your body of work Les.
So happy for wild harvest. That gap I had in productions from dish network shows available to RUclips uploads was a major bummer. To have my childhood hero still making things is really nice, there's not much quality content anymore and I find myself rewatching oldies which include survivorman
Here's good storytelling, when Les smiles and laughs about getting that fungus fire going, I smiled. When you spend thirty minutes trying to get bad tinder to take a friggin spark or to make damp kindling light when you know you've started fire in worse, there is joy in a fire and it isn't guaranteed. Fire feels good, every single time.
I used to go to Canada Ontario White Lake with my dad fishing that’s my favorite place to be in the whole world thanks for another directors commentary I love these
Shalom! I really appreciate you having your films here on this platform for all to enjoy! I also appreciate the commentary to get all the awesome behind the scenes info! Thank you for giving awesome content and practical knowledge! Shalom and Keep Moving Forward Brother!
What i loved about this episode is how it shows the danger of complacency. You're essentially in your own backyard where you feel extremely comfortable, yet the first night you over see the importance of shelter. This show (all episodes) always felt raw and not "networked fluffed". What's more raw than simple survival/teaching experience of. As a fellow Canadian, im beyond thankful for the lifetime you've showcased.Thank you, Les Stroud 🇨🇦 💪
Take a backpacking trip in Algonquin usually every year & this guy since I was a kid has shown me lots. Love it thanks for the quality content Les. Cheers
I loved this episode when it first came out, for exactly the reasons you talked about Les. Felt like a throwback to your early work. Great stuff as always
You are in a small group of people that I consider “bad ass” and I would like to give you the most sincerest thanks I can for providing me with so much knowledge and entertainment over the years. Thanks Les.
Early Christmas present for us! I really appreciate this one because it's in Canada. And Ontario has such a diverse environment, that this one just resonates with me. And doing one here with these bugs make it so real. How to deal with that is important. They can drive a person insane. One camping trip they were so bad, my screens were blackened from being completely covered with mosquitos. The sound alone was so incredibly disturbing. Fun fact, I named my custom designed Star Trek Starship the U.S.S. Temagami
22:30 I really like the parts where you'd see Les working with the camera. It showed that he really was out there alone and that things can go wrong and all that. It's just a great show all around one of the best shows out there.😊🍿🍿😁
I grew up in Northern Ontario and never in a million atoms did I anticipate relocating to the land of the Ogopogo. I’m on my fourth year and I still don’t have the energy to even think about another mosquito or black fly. You have taught me a lot about survival in the wilderness. Nature has been a constant magical force on my healing journey and who knows maybe if our paths cross, I can teach you a few things…..Angie
Les, I'm so glad I ran into a comment praising you and giving me the thought of looking you up. You made my childhood and love for the outdoors. I admire and look up to you immensely, and I'm glad you're doing reviews of your old episodes! I'm going to definitely binge these over the next few weeks! Thank you for being you and continuing your passion for surviving in the wilderness. Thank you for teaching many people, young and old, how to survive in dire situations!
Been a fan for almost 20 years. I love to hike and camp. I binge all of his shows once a year and i feel more and more confident abd safe when i go out. Thank you again for what you do :)
I’m an anthropologist, and one thing that struck me in grad school is learning that forensic anthropology (and forensics in general) are largely unscientific. This does not mean they do not get results, it means that the experts rely a great deal on “gut instinct”. So, your water analysis is probably spot on.
Thanks Les, watched you growing up as a teenager and you sparked my interest in nature and learning everything about survival. You are truly a Canadian treasure, keep doing what you are doing
Les, you talking about those of us having a trip down memory lane...honestly after watching your shows multiple times since I was a kid, I feel that so much. It's great getting the chance to show my mom this stuff now. We're both enjoying watching these with you and are always waiting for the next director's commentary or season of Wild Harvest... By the way, my mom wishes she could be out there cooking fresh and wild ingredients with you and Paul in a cozy cabin. All the best!
Hey Les, growing up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula I always loved your show and watching a guy from "just across the pond" in Ontario that acted and talked like people I knew in my daily life growing up was very inspirational. I love these directors commentaries and hope we can get you to a million subs!
For mushroom identification, I love finding a mushroom either in the backyard or on the trail and talking photos of it (photographer here lol). I'll go home and learn all about the mushroom and try to ID though various means. It's really fun because you learn hands-on what is in your neck of the woods. This year I saw tons of Great Funnel Veil Amanita and learned a lot of "that white bumpy mushroom in the yard". I also feel the same way about bees/wasps as you do mosquitos. I was always taught to leave them be (pun) or gently brush/blow them away.
I would love to see an episode where Les takes everything he would normally carry on a dayhike, just to see what kind of difference it would make if you have a handful of emergency items. We're all told there are certain "essentials" to carry when out in the wilderness. What difference would those "essentials" contribute to the survival experience if we actually carried them?
I want to see Les react to John Plant's Primitive Technology. Just to see what he thinks, but not necessarily in terms of survival, but maybe production and potential insights he might have.
I’m glad you space the director commentaries out cause since the moment you said you’d do every episode of all your different shows I’m dreading when you’ve caught up and done them all. This is by far my favorite channel of the hundred plus I’m subscribed to and getting to see old episodes I grew up with but now getting to also hear the backstory and more is absolutely awesome. I know I’ve said it before on other episodes but thank you for what you do and the genuine attention you show to fans.
That was one thing that I liked about MacGyver was his knap sack and how he picked things up along the way that could be useful, I've always thought that was a good Idea.
I appreciate and love yore videos. Soo glad you started doing the director’s commentary . It’s kinda a good thing you didn’t do them immediately after filming 🎥 each episode because years down the line (now, present day) we get a bonus out of the blue 😮 😊 keep them coming much love from New Mexico
Merry Christmas! I’ve been watching you since your first season premiered on Discovery. I turn 33 next month. My only gripe from back then is I just wanted more! I love your commentaries and getting to learn something new! My favorite early episode will always be when you were dropped on the mountain top by helicopter in the Rockies and worked your way down into the forest. You had a shelter by a creek, and explained by a small nook under a boulder is a bad idea, since your body heat might be all that’s needed to shift or crack it in the night.
This behind the scenes is awesome man I have been watching since the start of it all ...and make sure my kids know you are the only one on TV that is the real deal keep these coming my man...
Hey! I am one of the ones that have grown up watching you! Loved every episode and helped me keep a positive spin on life. Still enjoying your content and glad to be able to watch along with you. Thank you for everything!
Les, I have been watching you from the beginning. And while I don't typically find myself in a situation where I need to survive, some of the things you have taught in your films have become ingrained in my mind. Like: "You sweat, you die." And the concept of looking at your firewood cache, then collecting 5X more to get you through the night. I will not, however, eat bugs or grubs to survive. If it comes down to that, hey. I had a good run.
I’m turning 30 this month, I’ve been watching since I was a young teen. Because of you I’m passionate about the great outdoors and I’m currently planning on doing a lot of backpacking across America. Thanks Les! Also, my Aunt was going to buy me your 25th anniversary DVD booklet for Christmas but they were already sold out…😢
I really enjoy ur honesty about what really happens. And ur love to showcase what can happen. I watch a lot of different types of survival shows. As I eat my dinner and wind down. I'm a over the road truck driver. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge keep up the Great work and Be safe. 😊
An episode filmed last minute and on the cuff. As always some of the best ,Les. Love this style of surviorman episodes. Really love the directors commentary episodes. Merry Christmas!
Not sure if people say this enough but thank you Les for these! It’s great to rewatch episodes I’ll never forget, and your insights on the making of your shows is incredibly educational! Cheers 🍻 ! Happy holidays! 🎄

Now that you say it, I have been watching you since you first started, I remember at my grandmother's house being excited a new episode was gona cone on. And on that same note now I get excited when you post a new commentary on the same episodes from when I was little.
Please don't. Sasquatch is not real . He made the episodes to make money . That's it . If he was real there would be evidence.....annnnnnnd there's none .

Hey! I am one of the ones that have grown up watching you! Loved every episode and helped me keep a positive spin on life. Still enjoying your content and glad to be able to watch along with you. Thank you for everything!
I always wondered if music attracts or scares animal away... like hearing a dinner bell or something! Thank you for the great and free content!
This is reminding me a heck of a lot of the Boreal Forest episode hope everyone has a merry Christmas.
Thank you brother, you are the best. I love your directors commentary i could listen to you do them all day.
I’m turning 30 this month, I’ve been watching since I was a young teen. Because of you I’m passionate about the great outdoors and I’m currently planning on doing a lot of backpacking across America. Thanks Les! Also, my Aunt was going to buy me your 25th anniversary DVD booklet for Christmas but they were already sold out…😢
Merry Christmas Les Stroud!! 🎄🎄🎄
Good morning! Happy to see a new director's commentary instalment! Love the jumper. And you, dear Mr Stroud, but that goes without saying ❤️😉
An episode filmed last minute and on the cuff. As always some of the best ,Les.

Not sure if people say this enough but thank you Les for these! It’s great to rewatch episodes I’ll never forget, and your insights on the making of your shows is incredibly educational! Cheers 🍻 ! Happy holidays! 🎄
Hello from Newfoundland! Been watching since the early days. I really enjoyed your Labrador episode! I am looking forward to new things to come. I love these directors commentaries!
Merry Christmas Les! I grew up on your shows and always rewatch them often. So glad you've put them here on youtube!
Always a fan, take care!
Now that you say it, I have been watching you since you first started, I remember at my grandmother's house being excited a new episode was gona cone on. And on that same note now I get excited when you post a new commentary on the same episodes from when I was little.
I can't wait for the next season of Wild Harvest!
Merry Christmas les! Thanks for actually saying it.
Les, please just film more surviormans for this chanel we love it my friend
Howdy! Please do more Sasquatch episodes. Your way of researching and approach is my favorite of all the people in Bigfoot land.
Please do!!!
Came to do the same
Please don't. Sasquatch is not real . He made the episodes to make money . That's it . If he was real there would be evidence.....annnnnnnd there's none .
@@rockkhound943Many have that opinion. Many have another.
Agreed!!! More Bigfoot even if it's not real.
