Diving Scene; Les: "Wow I remember all that gear, I don't have it anymore!" as he strokes his bald head while looking at the lush head of hair on his younger self. Love you.
If you return to do another season of Survivorman, would you consider some mini series on longer-term situations? You could explore scenarios such as "what if your 4 day camping trip turns into 3 weeks" or "what to do if you get snowed in for a month at your weekend getaway cabin". It would be interesting to see how you would handle a situation in which you have some more supplies but you are out much longer.
It would be very interesting but he is getting old. We need a new survivorman (or woman) do to these and some others, with him coaching in preparation and maybe add his commentary but not participate.
I get that, but I don't think anyone could pull that off. I honestly don't think anyone else can recreate his style. Survivorman without Les Stroud just isn't Survivorman.

Les, I love that you went on that tangent about smart phones and texting. We need to preserve standards and boundaries around these things and it was a great side point.

I always feel like I'm right there alongside you in these survival situations with these directors commentaries. I've said it before- they absolutely make my Fridays!!
This may be my favorite episode. I love the technique to split a coconut, it works great. The feast at the end is an awesome and rare thing. I'm really enjoying re-watching these with the commentary. Love it!
I am counting down the minutes. I love his Commentaries, especially on the Bigfoot videos. Helps us understand what really is happening outside and behind the camera, which we can't see.
This episode is so good because you are living out the ideal tropical island survival image that we have seen in movies, tv, art generally, for years. It’s like Gillian’s Island for real
Just an FYI, epi pens actually come with a trainer pen that you can use to train yourself without wasting a dose. And you just reset it, and can do it as many times as you need. So helpful when it's so expensive. Love the commentary episodes!! Thank you Les!!
Why did RUclips take so long to let me know if this channel existed. Love your stuff man even back in the day I knew you were the real deal when Bear Grills was staying in five star hotels
The song that played while dismantling the harmonica was perfect. And playing the Ukulele was such a cool way to end the episode, it matched perfectly with your ending words. Artistic perfection.
I am about to binge watch every Survivorman episode I can get on RUclips I remember watching this show back when I had TV, for the past ten years or so all I have had is RUclips and didn't realize I could watch this program, kind of forgot about it but I remember it being so cool. This guy was the OG for this type of thing.
MAD props to Survivor crew picking up essentially everything they used on the island. Way too common for them to sweep it under the rug, so to speak. The 'them' being production teams and companies. Also props to Les respecting the intelligence of the audience. Super underrated aspect of film making and nothing turns me off of a film or show quicker than pandering to lowest common denominator.
Very glad that you decided to do these commentaries. I’ve been such a huge fan of your show for so many years and now to really get behind the scenes and pick your brain has answered a lot of questions I’ve had for so long. You are the OG Les, you really set the bar for survival shows and we thank you for this!
Les is my fave entertainer because of many things obviously. But one of the things is that he can produce 1 h 30 min of pure content - a content with substance. And this here is ”only” a commentary, ie recycling the old, but it feels brand new material, because there is an actual commentary(!). Les never wastes his audience’s time.
One thing I always really did appreciate Les is that you never treated us (the viewer) like an idiot. Why am I not surprised that the network fought you on that though?
Oh man I'm REALLY looking forward to you uploading the training videos that you took way back then. I know some of the things those people taught you had to be really cool and interesting!
To be the first is always the toughest challenge! Less was the first and is the first. Now so many people who like outdoors and bushcrafting would say they know the tricks, BUT so many of us learnt them from Less. Less brought it for wide audience making it look easy! His shows like an old good wine, it gets only better in years! You can read a good book numerous times!
Nice. I don't know about anyone else, but I would love to see some long uncut Q&A or storytelling videos from Les (I know he has a couple). He always seems like the type that would benefit from a less constricted time quota for asides and whatever else came to mind. Would be interesting for me at least... Still love everything Les Stroud puts out there!
@@lesstroud2573 Thank you Les! My comment was a bit referential to your first Q&A if I'm perfectly honest, you were talking about how you were unsure if people would enjoy that type of content. Just weighing in and saying absolutely! Even an 8 hour podcast by Les Stroud would be a goldmine of content I'm sure, we've got a pause button to work through content like that at our own pace. Anyway the enjoyment for yourself in making stuff like that is really the limiting factor I'd have to assume. I know you get this a lot but you are inspirational to all of us for getting out and finding our own adventures!
8:20 - The serenity of diving was perfectly represented in music form by Peter Cliche and Dan Colomby in the song "Diver Down", which plays during the diving scene. It's a perfect match and gives a marvelous vibe. Props to them for the great soundtrack!
One of my favourite episodes! Love that Les is able to have a feast at the end. He’s happy, I’m happy. Can’t wait to see the training behind the scenes video(s)!!
I’m sure I’m late to the show and somebody has already said this, but it just came to my mind that this is like watching a Survivorman show with Survivorman. Pretty cool! When you were splitting the coconut with the propeller, it reminded me of your video blog where the little girl, in the water village, was doing that with a big ol’ knife. Wasn’t sure exactly what she was doing on that video, but now I know!
These director commentaries are great - my favourite channel on RUclips easily. Les makes you feel like you are watching it with him personally - and the wine is a nice touch! Great job and keep them coming! (Also completely agree with your observations about cell phone etiquette lol.)
Hey there, Les!!! Greetings from Michigan. I’ve been watching your shows/content since I was a little boy and saw your show which was like nothing I’d ever seen and you’ve actually inspired me in many ways,, from recreational camping, to preparation for survival situation and even musically from your wonderful harp playing. It’s been a true joy to see you releasing these director commentaries and see you explain things from then. You’re a true treasure in the industry for making your content available the way you have and I’m so thankful for it. Anyways, my question to you is this,, at what age did you realize that you had a true passion for not only survival knowledge, but a passion for teaching that knowledge to the general public? And how did you get the opportunity to have your show make it to air in Canada and the US and all over the world? Thanks again for everything. Especially for being you,, you’re incredible and you’ve made the world a better place by being a part of it and teaching what you have to us. Much love to you, Les.
Great advice about the epi-pen practice. First time I needed to use one as a kid, I was freaking out too much to figure it out. But, luckily, my dad was home. He knew how to do that stuff from military training.
I've been looking forward to this commentary, thank you so much. I think it's my favorite of all Survivorman Episodes, closely followed by the Arctic Tundra episode where you caught the Arctic Char and we saw the true happiness and joy on your face as your caught them. 😊
I love these director comm shows, Les!!! Loved all your years of knowledge and survival etc. Many more please and blessing to you sir!!! Great idea with the directors commentary!! Peace!
Hey Survivorman just wanted to say thanks. I’m in joying your dvd collection that I got. I’ve already went through season 1 I’m on two now so this episode here I can’t wait to get to lol. Hope you keep these directors commentaries going through all the seasons and stuff. It will be a while to get through all of them including the Bigfoot series. I especially would love to see what you where thinking on that series. Anyway stay safe out there and thanks again for everything

There’s a terrifying episode of I Shouldn’t be Alive (I think) about a navy diver from New Zealand who got caught in a current and was literally just floating around in the ocean for days. I can’t imagine anything more terrifying than bobbing up and down alone in the ocean at 3:00 in the morning.
A survival tip even Lester could have used: sand can be a useful abrasive/cleaner on the beach!! Drysand could have been used like sawdust/litter to clean out the buckets, as well as polish up any rusty fish hooks by dragging then through the sand for a few minutes
