  • Replacement of the lower front control arms on a 2010 (B8) Audi S4
    There are (2) styles of lower control arms:
    Models up to production date 11/2/2009 (M12 Ball Joints) -
    and Models from production date 11/3/2009 (M14 Ball Joints)
    Make sure you know which one your car is before ordering parts. Torque specs differ on both as well.

    So, this is three times I've turned to your videos for clarification on how to do suspension work on my Audi. Thanks bro.

    One of the best How-To videos around. Great work! Would of been nice if you had shown how to get the correct ride height before torqueing the bolts; how high do you raise the brake disk? Thanks

    • @seat786
      @seat786 3 года назад

      Before starting the job and with the wheels on the car and car on the ground simply measure the distance from wheel hub centre to the bottom of fender arch. This measurment will give you the correct ride height when torquing the control arms.

      @@seat786 Thanks for confirming. I came to the same conclusion after giving it some thought.

    When some idiot at the Audi factory decided to fit the bolt keeping the lower rear in place, they fitted it from the wheel side so when I came to replace the arm the bolt would only pull out half way as it would catch on the plastic fuel lines on the chassis which are a nightmare to remove. The arm was obviously fitted prior to the fuel lines being fitted.

    Why does the large separate ball joint have to be installed onto the arm first? I was planning to install, secure with pinch bolt, then torque. It may still spin? But can use a large security torx to hold from bottom?
    Or can you not get a torque wrench on due to the CV boot?

    Brilliant channel since I've just purchased a 1999 S4 that's in need of some love. Starts to smell of fuel after accerlerating. Have checked the lines under the engine covers but cannot really find anything obvious? Any ideas? Injector O-rings leaking?

    I see you had different tire wear on the front tires, which is one of the symptoms of bad control arm bushings as well I believe

    Great video. 2 Questions:
    1. Can you explain how you positioned / adjusted for ride height? This will be critical for me so that I can do this at home.
    2. Why not just replace the bushings and ball joints? The control arms themselves can be reused. Naturally, a press is needed but these can be had for a reasonable price vs. buying a new suspension / control arm kit.
    Thank you

      More Cowbell use a piece of wood under the brake caliper and lower the car till the suspension is loaded/right height or push it up with a jack then torque everything
      It’s just better and easier to replace the entire control arm and owner went with a density control arms for more stiffness

      @andersborum9267 5 лет назад

      @@josebarajas5294 thanks for the video; bushings are approx. 1/10 of the price of the control arm so I agree with More Cowbell on this one, unless the control arm shows signs of being out of spec.

    hey justin i just got my first s4 b5 and it idles really high, can reach up to 1800 rpm, and if you give it gas really quick it drops but comes back right up to 1800.. if the engine is cold ots 1100 rpm.. i have looked for vacum leaks but cant find any, i have tryed a new maf but nothing changed.. u have anny suggestion for what to look for ?
    also it makes a weird klung when you give it gas or let of gas.. like something is lose or badley worn, makes much less noise and less pull when cold.. feels like it comes from the back but someone said motormount but i don't know.. please help
