    In this video, Mike tackles the front and rear suspension on the project B7 S4 and shows you how to upgrade your ride using Bilstein B8 performance shocks in the front and rear. We're also pairing these up with their HD strut mounts (thanks to the great guys over at 034Motorsport!). We noticed during the repair that the front upper control arms needed to be changed, as well, so we're throwing on some OE units from TRW.
    Some benefits of running the Bilstein B8 package I have also put together for Audi B7 S4’s: - Monotube gas pressure construction - High-performance shock absorbers and struts designed specifically for lowering springs and production sport vehicles - Sport-tuned with a high level of comfort - Precision handling and optimized vehicle control - Road-tested and fine-tuned by Bilstein Originally intended to be paired with lowering springs (which may not be out of the question for project B7 later in life), these shocks are still fully capable of supporting Project B7 S4 with the factory springs and will provide exceptional ride quality.

    Thanks for the video guys! I just did mine this weekend. Purchased the Bilstein Sport Touring shock kit from you as well, superb kit!!!. Did the fronts and rears. What a difference!! The car handles like its on rails, can't believe I drove around for so long on the old shocks.
    I had nightmares about the pinch bolt but was completely fine. I guess here in Australia we only have to worry about snakes and spiders hiding up under the wheel, not salted roads, although I'm not sure which is worse ;)

    As an ex-Audi technician, this is a great video and should give any driveway mechanic the confidence needed to tackle a project like this. Good to see a detailed but easy to follow format that anyone who knows one end of a spanner from the other can follow!

    Not upgrade but maintenance/repair: shouldn't one go ahead and replace the coil springs too?

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  3 месяца назад

      You can definitely do that; however, springs are typically designed to last the lifetime of a vehicle and do not need replacing every time dampeners are done.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. I am planning on doing the same on my 2013 TT, will contact you for struts, mounts, etc. But as you're running sort of demo, "you can do it if I can" video... no anticease compound? So you dont have to pray next time you'll need to unbolt it... also, can those control arm be started there and torqued on the car at proper height? Wouldn't that be a better practice?

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  4 года назад +1

      Hi Roman, anti-seize would definitely be a good idea especially if you live in a rust prone area. Torquing control arms at ride height is always a good practice as well, you can also simulate it by loading up the suspension with a jack.

      @@fcpeuro yeah, thanks for reply guys. I do not have much of experience with Audi but already know that UCA joint in there is huge pita. I did LCAs in both of my RRS and it a #1 rule, if you're planning on unbolting that LCAs again rather then having to cut it all off again - be generous with anticease compond while assembling. Thats why I replied - I know you're in CT, my thought was - is this guy thinks it is last time he has to open those bolts :)

    • @fcpeuro

      It sounds like the Bilstein B6 series will work well for your application. The B8 series is typically for vehicles with aftermarket lowering springs.

    Somebody here might be able to help me I've a rattle going over little bumps in the road, no rattle when I hit pot holes or ramps it's doing my head, I had both shocks replaced with bilstein, lemforder control arms including the bigger lower control arms and myele HD sway bar link so all decent parts motor mounts don't appear to be leaking engine doesn't have excessive movement. What else could make noise? All the bushing were absolutely knackered and 1 dead shock so paid a small fortune to have it all replaced but now it's got a rattle, absolutely everything was torque to spec while on load I'm stumped. Oh and outer tie rod was replaced both side's they were genuine audi done at dealer technician tore one boot so had to replace both, inner tie rods are still there I'm 99% sure it not them. Any anything anybody can think of anything that could be causing this rattle.

    My control arm spindle pinch bolt is seized. (Never been out). The long one you said to pray for. I drowned it in penetrating oil. Hit the threaded end with a knock out punch on an air hammer. Nothing. What do you suggest I do to remove it? My thought is to buy a set of new bolts, then cut the head off of the bolt & drive it out carefully with an air hammer. I’m also thinking about using a heat gun to heat up the spindle since it is aluminum it will expand. Then install a new bolt on installation.

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  6 лет назад +1

      I would try heating up the area where you're trying to remove the bolt. That should be enough to remove the bolt, using the air hammer may cause damage but can be used as last resort.

    Hi, first off, Subbed belled and liked. Very cool, Professional presentation. Do you have affiliates in Ontario Canada?
    Ok, it is 2020 now and I am wanting to move. So I need a trailer hitch so I can cart my stuff.
    My 2003 Audi quattro sedan is a good girl and well maintained. The only thing that has not been replaced is the suspension. That is how I found you.
    I am moving from Ontario Canada to Newfoundland, it's a good haul. Hence good suspension needed. Safety first. So, before I go hauling a trailer across the country....
    I want to raise the ride height a bit for snow and rougher terrain. An inch or so. Can that be done?
    And if so, about how much am I looking at? Ballpark. So I don't get hosed. lol
    I will happily have you or your recommended associate do the work.

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  4 года назад +1

      Hi William, thanks for subscribing! A full refresh of the suspension would probably suit that journey just fine. Raising the suspension is a bit tricky as most parts available are for lowering rather than raising the suspension. Sounds like an Allroad would be a good vehicle for what you are looking for as you can raise and lower the air suspension system. But honestly, your car should be fine with new suspension installed, maybe upgrade to some heavy-duty shocks.

    I have replaced my springs EIbeck Pro kit including Bilstein (I think B12) and all the suspension bushes except I didn't replace the original Strut Mounts. I still have a knocking sound over some speed bumps so I suspect I need to replace mounts. The ride is already pretty harsh so I don't want to increase road vibrations etc with overly hard mounts.
    My question is, would you consider that the original grade rubber mounts will fail quickly with the somewhat lower and firmer suspension and so recommend the 034Motorsport mounts. If so just how much worse is the ride for everyday road driving? I just want a sporty but still comfortable daily driver so if orininal mounts will hold up reasonable time then that might be ok. Thanks Andrew

    Got a question that needs pro input. I’m in a dilemma between getting standard vs sport bilstein struts and shocks on my factory coils on an A4 B8. My budget allows me to get B4 OEs, now I’m thinking on putting standard shocks (rear) and sport struts (front) in order to maintain the ride comfort quality and have sharper handling in the front, because I know sport suspension is a little bit firmer but I want the handling capabilities that they comes with, question being is there really a drastic different in dampening when it comes to sport struts and shocks? Also will the sport or standard B4 OEs suspension change ride height from factory height? Again car is Audi A4 2010.
