Loved the comparison! Curious what types of tripods you're using or would recommend?
I love using this tripod (amzn.to/3i82pIr) you can go pretty high with it and it is portable. For mini tripods i like the flexible tripod from ulanzi which looks like the gorillapod.
Terrific review! I own the DJI pocket 2 and was recently looking at this Sony model! Yes I know that the DJI has a physical gimbal and hence, I knew the stabilisation would be better in comparison. However, for the price of the Sony, I was expecting better stabilisation. Moreover, the DJI trumps the Sony in most of the categories.
Yes, my almost exact sentiments. There is one way to make the stabilization on the ZV-1 slightly better with Catalyst Browse (did a video on it). But it will crop into your footage abit, at least 10% for better stabilization. Overall, if you can do less with the video quality, the DJI Pocket 2 is a much better choice.

Thanks for this review! I have the ZV-1 but I do think I'm going to end up buying the pocket 2 just out of convenience and switch between the two depending on where I'm filming. I've found it very hard this past year to take out my ZV-1 and vlog especially when travelling and I do think the pocket 2 would solve a lot of these issues! I also wish I had the time to use Catalyst browse but between full time work and part time content creation it's just going to each up too much time for me
Sounds great! This is definately more discreet when traveling, not to mention that you don't need to keep changing the batteries which the Zv1 churns up pretty fast.
This is a top-notch comparison video of two very good equipment approaches to blogging. Bravo! The DJI package will get anybody started with everything they need for a good Vlog. To make it better, the Sony kit PLUS a wide angle lens PLUS a remote mic PLUS a 3-axis gimbal - will make things look a little bit better. But that’s $1,300 😳

Really appreciate the in-depth review of the two products. I think you are someone who puts in a great effort in creating valuable content for your viewers, it would make your videos even better if you could speak a little slower and vocally emphasize on certain important points as you go a long. You have a habit of rambling off very quickly at the start of each segment, you may want to consciously slow down a lot more in the earlier parts of each segments, as though you are comfortably talking to a friend. Other than that, the content is great and really valuable, all the best in growing your channel!

Great work and very detailed review James.. Thanks! From my observation, vlogging yourself with the ZV-1 while walking around is ok but once you turn it around like in the carpark, the stabilization is really lacking for the ZV-1. That being said, the ZV-1 video quality, colors and dynamic range is superior but the Pocket 2 is more than sufficient for everyday vlogging especially with the wireless mic.

Now you know my struggle choosing one over the other haha, but the pocket 2 is overall alittle less hassle, the only downside is have to be careful not to damage the gimbal part. Dropped the osmo pocket 1 in my first test video and it wasn't even from a tall height so yeah.

Thanks for the great comparison! I actually found the footage of the ZV1 a lot nicer both audio and video. It looked a lot better in low light when you entered the shopping mall and has proper beautiful depth of field / bokeh as opposed to the pocket 2. I think for anything other than walking while filming/vlogging the ZV1 is better.
Glad to hear that! Yes, a larger sensor gives better details and low light performance. As for stabilization the ZV-1 does have Catalyst browse which matches up to 80% of the Pocket 2 stabilization so it is not that far back in that department.
If the DJI P2 was shot in Cine D and colour graded the colours would be better than the Sony - Sony colour profiles are not the best

good video, i have the pocket 1, i would be upgrading to the pocket 2. if you enjoy the stabilization of the pocket its hard to go backwards in stabilization. i am also considering the canon g7x because its got good than the zv1 stabilization. i would buy the new sony zve10 for tripod videos. the zv1 is an all round camera if you walk slowly the stabilization is useable and wide angle enough.

Wow! What a fantastic review. I like how you show the live differences between the two in both the visual as well as audio aspects. Showing the microphone icon beside the relevant camera was super clever and helpful, too. From what I see, the stabilisation is far better in the Pocket 2, but I agree that image quality is better on the ZV-1. I’m here because I’m planning to do travel vlogs, so I’m searching for an easy to use vlogging camera. I guess it will be the Pocket 2. I think I’ll use my iPhone for still images.
Aside, can I ask you whether the Pocket 2 produces a humming sound like a faint motor sound? Last year, I bought a DJI gimbal. I mounted my iPhone on it to do indoor sit-down videos. When I played it back, I heard the annoying humming sound. I stopped using it after a few tries and just put my iPhone on a regular stand. Maybe I didn’t know how to use it as I’m not very tech-savvy anyway 🤪. Would like to know your thoughts. Thanks so much!
Thank you! And no it doesn't have any humming noises at all. This is a small gimbal and doesnt have huge parts like the bigger gimbals. It will also have the clip-on microphone which is amazing for capturing audio!

James, I have 2 questions which is not covered in most of the reviews and comparisons..
I am planning to get a vlog camera 🎥 which gives a better than mobile quality and stabilization!
I cannot carry heavy weight in my hand and roam here and there and the 2 possible solutions are go pro with a stick and shot gun mic using media mod or DJI pocket with creator combo!
1)
I have a small kid and in many chances, it should be very stable and withhold impacts... I don't think it's possible with the DJI as it has lot of moving parts but the go pro with hyper smooth will provide the stabilization and durability as well right? But when go pro is added to a media mod and mic, will it withhold?
2) flipout screen! Both DJI and go pro doesn't have one but since I Will be filming my kid, i might use low angles mostly and need to check the frame... Will it be visible in DJI? Looking into the screen from a high view?
I cannot speak for the GoPRO but for the DJI, it is a small and capable gimbal, if you are afraid the screen is too small, you can buy a phone holder and mirror the view in from your mobile. The overall setup will still be smaller than the GO Pro media module which has even more parts once you get the light and tripod etc.

Thank you for your comment :) Haha, i have more than 10 videos on the DJI pocket 2, i am sure i covered that in one of the videos maybe not in this one . But a fully charged DJI pocket 2 has never failed to last me a whole day of shoot, it is very power friendly. I use it more than my ZV-1.

Yes, totally agreed. The ZV-1 is better in quality but all the other aspects especially the functionality of the Pocket 2 is often the reason why i use it more often!

Great to hear that! The DJI Pocket 2 is on a league of its own ain't it. As for food products, you will not see a more than 25% increase in quality, i highly suggest you go for the Sony APSC line such as the A6100 or A6400. APSC sensor size is bigger than the ZV-1 so more details will be more noticeable on top of the video features
Got the Combo pack in July, from DJI's official NZ store in Auckland. Its a great device! 4k gimbal pocket camera, doesn't attract attention, has a larger sensor than Samsung/iPhone flagship phones with better gimbal stabilization! And ultra wide 20mm lens, sorry Samsung... 26mm is not 'wide' enough. Due to the larger sensor, it handles ISO/Exposure and low light, better than flagship smartphones. And its cheaper than a dedicated camera and a flagship smartphone.

In terms of image quality, the ZV-1 is superior
No idea which camera I should be getting🤷🏻♀️ the comparison of both camera seems like DJI pic tends to have sort of yellowish making the pic looking kind of vintage feel whereas Sony is normal. Sound quality, I kind of like DJI because Sony sound seems softer. DJI vid capturing more of the background making you looking small whereas Sony background & you looks equally. I really don’t know, both looking ok, probably I’ll get the DJI just for lightweight & convenience😁
Yes, they are quite close in terms of usage. The DJI lens is a little wider so it will make me look even smaller and of course the slight lack in quality and color does make its image less appealing than the Sony. But in terms of overall functions, battery life and portability the DJI does have an edge. If you are vlogging i would go for the DJI, if you are mostly doing static talking head shots, the sony would be better.
Both are great cameras but man, even though I love the quality and look the ZV1 gives. As a viewer and someone that wants to share where I am; The Pocket 2 captures the world around you as you are vlogging as Sony seems pretty tight, even with the wide angle adapter.

Pocket 2 is best deal. Sony is very expensive, and too tight/too much focus on talking head rather than background. The pocket 2 offers the best balanced image, and value.
Can you do ActiveTrack somehow with the Sony ZV1?
It has Face/ Eye Af. Don't think it has what you mentioned.
I want to record b-Roll videos of my cars, and just usual videos of my kids. What would you recommend? Won’t be using for photos as got A7iii for that. Thanks
The DJI Pocket will be a better choice due to the stabilization. Personally, I use the Pocket 2 more than any of my other cameras when I am out. It is an all-in-one solution unless the resolution is a huge factor which you already have the A7iii. Hope this helps :)

I know its an off but what do you think on a6100 compared to dji pocket 2? I slightly new on the cinematography and would like to use a hybrid camera for amateur landscape filming mainly but I want to do some pictures as well. Should I go for DJI?
The a6100 will definately have better quality than both the pocket 2 and even the Zv-1. My talking head videos are all shot on the A6400 which has the same sensor size as a6100. The a6100 will lack in IBIS so do invest in a gimbal such as the zhiyun Weebill S to make your video more watchable. The a6100 will be a very good investment with the correct lens so unless you plan to do vlogging the a6100 will serve you better in photography and higher video quality. Hope this helps!

I think the Pocket 2 needs to bring down the reds and increase the greens to get a more natural color profile. I think it's a small reason why the picture gets washed out quite often.

I have both cameras. They are very different, and complimentary. The ZV1 shines with slow motion, zoom, and product showcase. However the Pocket is a far superior vlogging camera - the audio, and gimbal reliably produces great footage. The ZV1 should be better in low light because of sensor size but the Pocket is much better because of the gimbal. I gets great-ish footage in a wide range of situations but the ZV1 is really a bright daylight camera. But the biggest reason I use the Pocket the most because it is always in my Pocket whereas the ZV1 can only fit in very large pockets.
Yeah! I have the same sentiments. For me, the battery life of the ZV-1 is quite annoying as it runs out pretty fast which makes me even want to use it much less.
And it's transfer friendly on mobile phones and easy to edit no need laptops.

Sony is better in video quality, the rest pocket 2 has a slight edge

Sony for the colour profiles to play with colour grading. More versatility. Best if can afford both lol.
Yeah, that allows for more creativity when it comes to editing. You have more dynamic range for grading your footages.

Hi, for vlogging and walking around there is no fight. The DJI Pocket 2 wins for sure as there is a wireless mic and in itself is a gimbal, i cant tell you how many times my sony ZV-1 is so shaky and the wire from my mic is dislodge from the mic jack. The slightly weaker video quality is a small compromise for everything else being better in the Pocket 2. You can go over to my vlog channel in the description and see how many recent content i shot with it, or even just notice it in this channel. Not to mention the battery life on the ZV-1 sucks. About 30 mins of use i have to change whereas the pocket 2 can last more than half a day. I have never needed to recharge my pocket 2 for my content whereas the ZV-1 needs at least 3 batteries. Hope this helps :)

Dji pocket 2 is constantly overexposed. Is it possible to lower the general exposure manually while keeping the automatic (dynamic) exposure on ? If this is not possible the dji pocket 2 is useless for video as the footage is way overexposed.
Yes, you could do that manually. As i was trying to use the wide angle lens often, i wasn't able to use the VND therefore some footage might be slightly overexposed. If you have the correct VND and settings it should be fine but the quality still has its limits. If you are looking for better quality, the ZV-1 or an A6400 would be a better choice.
Is the camera instagramfriendly? Can u film it vertically so that it becomes perfect for instastories, reels, tiktoks, etc.?
And can u send/airdrop the tapes/pictures from the camera to your iPhone, or do you have to connect through a USB adapter?
For the Sony ZV-1, it is instagram friendly you can just shoot vertically and transfer photos wirelessly through the app for both tiktok and IG.
As for the Pocket 2, you will be able to do that through the usb-c adapter provided but vertical formats are abit more challenging to achieve but is still possible.

What FPS and video / photo resolution are you using on both cams?
Mostly 24 FPS, 1/50 (or AUTO for a few scenes using the Pocket 2) Photos are at max resolutions (20mp & 42mp)

No problem. It depends, are you irritated with the shutterspeed of the video? If not I would suggest adjusting the ISO 1st. Because for shutterspeed it is tricky, u will want to keep it at least double of your framerate for more natural motion blur.
Generally the pocket 2 doesn't do too well in lowlight due to the sensor size so that's one of its limitations. If u can blast light on yourself at night that would be best.

If you want to do cinematic video and you are mostly stationary indoors = ZV-1
If you are mostly vlogging and doing fast action stuff and needs good audio = Pocket 2 Creator Combo
I have run my own Real Estate business I need a good camera for shooting Real Estate indoor videos in medium low light condition with ultra wide angle lens, please suggest me which camera is a good choice for me like, iPhone 13 pro, DJI Osmo Pocket 2, GoPro 10 or GoPro 360?
iPhone 13 pro is out of bought but if it's wonderful option then I can manage
For the options you have shared here i think the IPhone would be good enough followed by the Pocket 2. But best is to go for a Sony A7III or A6100, the sensors on cameras are larger and captures more details
