Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install this Yakima Baseline FX Roof Rack System on our 2019 Honda Civic. So big picture on roof racks, what are they good for Really it's going to be a way to mount up accessories especially with something like our Type R right here. We are gonna have limited options to carry accessories because we might not have any hitch options or any very desirable hitch options and a roof rack is a great way to get some extra storage space. Whether we choose to mount up a bike rack up here, a box for some extra storage on road trips, a basket, a kayak carrier really any sort of possibilities are endless with this, and it gives you a lot of room to expand and carry extra stuff.
Now this one in particular is going to be a flush-mounted roof rack which means that the crossbars here the part that actually extends over the roof of the car ends in the tower here, so there's no overhang here. With a low down car like this, it is going to be nice because we don't have any sort of objects in our way whenever we're getting into the car, we're not gonna hit our head as much and it just gives it a very clean and complete look where everything just kind of ends right here in a custom fit application. Speaking of custom fit, it's going to use a custom fit kit that actually adapts and forms around the ridges of our roof, that helps it clip into place and utilize these clips that go into our door jams to give us a nice solid contact and a hold on the roof. Everything here is designed specifically for this car in this application. Everything from that clamp and that fit kit all the way up to even the length of the crossbars using a shorter one in the back and a longer one in the front just to make sure that we get the proper fit and everything is all in that foot pack without any extra overhang out to the side.
Inside here we can see where that clamp joins up with the foot pack and everything in here secures with this plastic lock core. Now that's not the most secure thing in the world. Anyone with a flathead screwdriver can turn that but these can be swapped out for actual lock cores. And these also expose some of the parts that give us adjustment for our clamps to make sure we get the right fit to our vehicle. In addition to those adjustment points underneath during the initial install process, we get the chance to set the pitch and the angle of the actual tower and the foot pack here so all the curves of our roof can be adjusted for and we still get a nice level crossbar on top even though the roof curves down quite a bit here.
Adding further to the nice looks of this roof rack, everything's going to be a matte black construction so it blends in really well and it all looks very sleek. On the top of the crossbar it is going to be an arrow shaped crossbar which means its thicker in the front, thinner in the back making it a little bit more aerodynamic. And the top track here has a nice weather strip in there to one, plug up any gap so we don't get any wind noise but still allow us to drop in our T track accessories if we do wanna mount something up that way. The very middle of the crossbar here there's gonna be a small opening where we can drop those accessories in, slide it along to wherever we want it and that weather stripping will sit around the accessory and we don't ever have to cut anything to length. As for some specific measurements with our Type R here, we're gonna get a crossbar spread of about 32 inches.
That's gonna be the center from one crossbar to the center of the other. That lets us know what kind of accessories we can mount up because certain ones do have a certain range of crossbar spreads that they work with. So if you have something in mind, make sure you check that and make sure it's compatible with 32 inches because there are designated points at these clamps and the fit kit are designed to work on your vehicle. The other thing we wanna check out is how tall the sticks up from the roof and that's going to be at the very center here. I'm gonna carefully set that in place. So from the roof to the tallest point it's gonna be three and a quarter of an inch, and from the roof to the bottom of the crossbar is gonna be two inches. So we've got two inches of clearance under here for any sort of clamp around accessories that we might be using. Just keep that in mind whenever you're picking this stuff out that it has a really bulky clamp you'll need space under here. But for the most part, I think this is plenty of room and it shouldn't present us with many issues. Because of the f
