Such an underrated movie. If you haven't seen it, you gotta check out The Nice Guys, also written/directed by Shane Black, and with a very similar vibe as this. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. Absolutely hilarious movie, and also criminally under-appreciated. It's one of the best comedies of the last 15 years.
Huh. On IMDB, the body count is listed as 13 in the trivia section. "Body count: thirteen: Protocop actor (falls off Harmony's balcony), Richie (shot by woman on fire escape), Veronica Dexter (the "lady in the lake"), Jenna Lane (suicide), Mr. Frying Pan (shot by food stand owner), Pink Hair Girl (shot by Mr. Fire), Mr. Fire (shot by Harry), Dexter's Clinic guard (shot by Harry), Aurelio (shot by Perry), Dexter's goon on bridge (shot by Perry), Harlan Dexter (shot by Harry), two goons on freeway (shot by Harry)." Shane Black really has a knack for writing witty buddy movies. "Lethal Weapon" was the first script he sold, and it has the same vibes. Cheers, guys, I loved your reaction(s) throughout this film!
@@RamblersInc Could be. Maybe the idea went under during rewrites. Or it is really just a coincidence. As Sigmund Freud is supposed to have said, sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar.
You're right about Val Kilmer, he was in a film called "The Saint", which was based off of a TV show by the same name. I think the tv show starred Roger Moore, but I'm not sure anymore.
Totally underrated movie. I saw it when it came out in the olden days! The gay character being the stronger more sensible character was fresh for the time. It just didn't get a lot of attention. I agree with another commenter -- The Nice Guys is awesome.
So a bit late to watching this, but as you also watched Airplane & Naked Gun, I highly recommend watching Top Secret! an early (1984) movie in that style that had a YOUNG Val Kilmer as a lead.
Its a shame that Shane Black, who wrote, AND directed this, intended his next film to be the sequel with the same actors-but Hollywood wanted bigger stars so that movie became 'The Nice Guys', which is still good, and different-but would have been SO much better with Kilmer & Downey in the leads. Shane Black always makes these genius irreverent action buddy movies, set at xmas. Lethal Weapon anybody...?
I love how people are rediscovering this gem. Always been one of my favs.
I love this movie so much, I wish more people knew about it. Glad you both enjoyed it. ✌🏽

“I thought there was only an 8% chance it would…”
“WHO TAUGHT YOU MATH!!!”

Yes! The Nice Guys is a great movie!
I agree. Not enough people have watched The Nice Guys.
Yes yes. Shane Black has some amazing films. This one and NICE GUYS are the perfect pair to watch .
Oh I haven’t seen this one for so long! It’s so funny and entertaining! Love it!
THE NICE GUYS is great, too!
This may be the most dry and sarcastic film in existence - it's a lot of fun isn't it!

Hmmm...why the 16 bodies line then? I wonder if that's a joke we've missed.

@@RamblersInc maybe a way of showing that reality doesn't live up to fantasy? There's this whole truth/fiction theme going on

I need to watch that again.
Watch The Nice Guys if you haven't. Same director and very similar style.

Need to watch The Nice Guys next
Fair play to the little girl actress in the beginning screaming her head off. She fooled me. She could teach The Rock an acting thing or two.
such good movie!
One of my favourite films - I loved your commentary
One of the best movies, period.
This movie has been so under-appreciated, but it seems to be gaining new life from a new audience.
They shouldve named the movie '8% Chance' ^^
My favorite movie. A masterpiece.
🤣

Another unknown hilarious comedy/crime is Safe Men starring a young Sam Rockwell and Steve Zahn.
