Gran Turismo 4: Main 12 best Starter Cars for under 10,000 CR! [No Gold Prizes]

  • Hello everyone, I thought it was about time I create this video. Over 2 years ago, I uploaded my thoughts on the best starter cars for GT2. Now, to mention what I think are the best starting choices for Gran Turismo 4. It's once again not a Top whatever list since I'm not good at picking favorites. Though, I would have to say the best choice in this video is either the Nismo 270R or Mercury Cougar XR-7.
    Notes:
    - I once again am NOT including gold prize cars since not every player is going to be able to achieve those times so easily.
    - Adding to that point, getting gold requires a lot of tries and honestly based on the prize cars; they're not worth it in my opinion. Especially since just getting the license tests in GT4 are tedious enough as it is due to how many tests PD lumped into each one.
    - Yes, I used gameshark codes for the credits in this video to save myself from having to save myself time from doing races to buy them. Plus, I only have so many days to get the first week cars and PD made buying cars count as a day used in this game.
    - So, some cars are different colors in gameplay from in the showroom footage due to the fact I wasn't able to buy every car
    from the first week.
    - Yes, I have a Gameshark money cheat activated, but it's there to save me from having to grind money to buy more cars or resetting my GT4 gamesave to try different cars.
    Songs Used:
    Isamu Ohira - Gran Turismo 4 Race Track Menu Theme
    Daiki Kasho - What to Believe (GT4 Prologue Ver.)
    The BAD - Green Monster
    Daiki Kasho - Good Days, Bad Days
    Honorable Mentions (EDIT 12/8/2020):
    - 1997 Toyota MR-2 GT-S, apparently if you spend time doing the License Tests right away, time will pass enough where a GT-S version of the MR-2 will appear in UCD Showroom II. It will cost less than 10k too, which is amazing.
    - 1995 Honda Integra Type R (DC2), similar thing to the MR-2, it appears in a revised dealership if you start on the license tests before buying a car.
    - 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. VI RS T.M.E. - Also in the refreshed dealership after you spend time on the license tests. Note: It's 12,990 cr; so you would have to sell the VW Lupo 1.4.
    - 2003 Mazda Kusabi Concept - People keep telling me that this is actually good starter car and it shouldn't be overlooked. So, I'll just leave this here.
    - 1997 Mitsubishi FTO GP Verison R - For 10,800cr, you'll definitely need to sell the Lupo to get this, but it should be worth doing.
    - 1991 Toyota Supra 2.5 TwinTurbo R - Selling the VW Lupo is also required, but you can get this car for 11,458 cr in the UCD Showroom I when it gets refreshed.
    - 1988 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 - It can be bought for 9.7k in the historic showroom. Not a bad alternative to the Evo.

    Okay, an update on this video after a year. Thanks for over 8k views everybody (as I'm writing this)! I just wanted to mention a few more things:
    1.) For people that don't know, I wasn't thinking of GT4's feature allowing you to gather up to 100,000 cr from GT3. Mainly because making a list based on that would be pointless since you would have plenty of great options. Though whenever I decide to have fun and do that; I usually buy a Dodge Viper SRT10. I did enjoy seeing the comments with this feature though. :)
    2.) Like in my GT2 starter cars video, some cars you might use won't be on this video. It could be due to multiple reasons such as I didn't think they were as good, I just didn't think of them, or maybe the car isn't available to me within the 10,000cr budget. I mean in Gran Turismo 2, the cars available in the ucd varied on region; so I figure it maybe the same case in GT4.
    3.) Based on that, I guess viewers can still comment on starter cars that I didn't mention and I can include them in my video description as an honorable mention.
    Okay, that's all I had to say. Carry on. :)

    Surprised no one's mentioned the Suzuki Cappuccino yet. Only costs 5,102, and all it needs is an oil change and ASM / TCS set to 0 to easily win both Lightweight K and Suzuki K-Car Cup for 21,000 prize credits and two prize cars in six races. You can spend the 25k credits on a good 4WD and some upgrades, then blast through the Beginner Events, Japanese Events and the Special Condition tarmac races. Really efficient money-maker considering all you need is a B licence, and fun to drive too.

    I used to own a Lancer myself, though just a regular one, not the Evo. Great little car, and really fun to drive (not to mention the little engine that gladly revved to over 7000 RPM)
    Otherwise, I was a little disappointed that you could not get the A70 Supra (3rd gen. Supra) as a starter, like you could in the original Gran Turismo

    A couple more suggestions for starter cars below 10k. Also remember to change the oil right away if you buy a used car ;)
    Galant VR4 - the OG Lancer Evo before it existed. Not as powerful as the starter Evo but still 202 HP with AWD is very good.
    Storia X4 - people may scoff at this little car but having 118 HP with AWD in a Kei car size and weight definitely helps with performance. Definitely makes for an interesting starter car.
    Again remember to change the oil right away :)
    About the Civics I think they get outclassed too soon in the game without upgrades. Got from the Sunday Cup to the FF cup and got beaten by a mile by a Mini right away and that was with the oil change.

    • @IDyn4m1CI
      @IDyn4m1CI 2 года назад

      Man I really put faith on that Storia X4 cause I remembered the Storia Rally Car in GT2 used to be really good, but damn it sucks lol. Idk man it just doesn't feel like it has 120 hp, at all. Even after tuning it still felt like crap, it would understeer all over the place, didn't have any torque anywhere and the really short gear ratios didn't really help it, instead it made it worse cause I lost so much time shifting gears. Its funny cause the standard Lotus Elise with its same 120hp feels like a rocket in comparison, and it handles so, so much better. All of that while being not that much lighter than the Storia X4. But I guess that's the difference in performance for a car almost 10x the price lol.

    I started with one of the RX-7 myself, but getting all silver in the IB license to get the RX-8 Concept is not a bad idea. Being faster than the production version, it can win the NR-A RX-8 Cup fairly easily with no upgrades, and BOOM now you have an LM race car! Although, getting a decently fast starter car to beat the Tsukaba Wet (Easy) which will give the other RX-8 prototype is arguably a more efficient way to go about things, especially if you aren't that good a driver.

    Always start by selling the Lupo and buying the Supra 2.5GT. Cheap enough for a 270+ hp car, bit of a heavy boi tho, and likes to understeer. Always start by getting some new shoes and transmission upgrades before tuning the engine.

  • @IDyn4m1CI
    @IDyn4m1CI 2 года назад +1

    In my most recent playthrough I started off with a DC2 Integra type R. Unlike other FF cars in this game, this one doesn't understeer to death and make you regret your life decisions, it handles like a dream. Also has plenty of power to clear the first few races and the FF challenge (and just stage 1 weight reduction drops its weight by nearly 200kgs, making it much quicker and nimble around corners). Then I used the Nismo 270R to smash through the FR challenge. I don't like using the cars you earn with licenses to start off cause it feels too cheap, and racing prototype cars is too silly, so they just sit in my garage indefinitely.

    • @scorpionwins6378
      @scorpionwins6378 9 месяцев назад +1

      The Integra type R is without question THE best handling fwd car. I bought one in GT3 and the handling is superb. I think at one point I even had the engine tuned up to around 260hp NA without tweaking the suspension one bit. Of course I upgraded to better tires but even so the factory type R chassis has a behavior of letting the rear slide outwards which makes a great counterbalance to understeer. I've driven so many fwd cars in the game and even in stock form the understeer is horrendously bad.

Whereas, in Gran Turismo 3 there weren't any good used cars, so I had to start with something new and not so powered. I chose the Mazda MX5 with pop up headlights and it was more difficult to advance in career. But I think it was more challenging to start with such a car. To be informative, S13 Q's has decent handling for a car that size however the engine and drivetrain is not very competitive so you end up spending too much money. Knowing GT4 forces you to buy some new car every three tournaments, driving it as the first car is pretty hard. Or get the silver rewards for the licences, up until S if you're up to it, and missions 21-24 (very easy) and further if you like. You shouldn't even need to buy a car before 20 hrs of playing with that starting garage.

    Not exactly a ‘starter car’ because $13,600 is about as cheap as it gets, but all Mazda RX-7s from 1992 onward. Great handling cars that feel great to drive and can easily be modified to have over 350 horsepower and outdo some much more expensive cars in races, like jaguars, mustang cobras, and lotus espirits. It will take some saving up which I suppose kind of defeats the purpose of a starter car, but it’s very good

    • @RandomCarGuy17
      @RandomCarGuy17  Год назад

      I hear you and that's nice to know, but it's not how I was making this list. The whole point of the list was to see how much you can get within the $10,000 budget. How far can the car get without upgrades and what can it do with upgrades you got from that budget after getting the car.
      I like hearing people talk about what they can do in the long term with a car, but the problem with thinking about a list based on that is a lot of cars can be somewhat good at least later on after building up money. and by the time you can get to that point, you probably could buy a bunch of other cars already and won a bunch.
