As half my audience seems to love all my resolve for iPad videos and the other half wants to burn me at the stake for making so many, let me just say this will be my last resolve for iPad video UNTIL it actually gets released to the public. Thank you all for the support and watching my videos 🙌🏼
I'm in the former half. Congrats on the win and keep up the good work!
Thank you 🙌🏼
Do you have a date of the public release?
And also, have you tried running it on non-pro non M series iPads?
When is this actually gonna be out ???
ist beta what you testing
I’m not sure how I’ve ever missed any of your videos but I’m definitely a subscriber now! Excellent content!! I currently have the iPad M1, and was debating on getting the M2 for my move from Adobe to da Vinci. but this video saved me a ton of money! The level of video editing that I do can easily be accomplished on my M1. So now I’m going to comb through your catalog of videos and bone up on Resolve😉
Great video, I have made the switch from Premiere to resolve and this type of info is very useful. You have touched on one of my major concerns with resolve, the lack of flexibility in the screen layout. This is something I miss from premiere, it would be nice to be able to customize the layout specifically for the screen size that you were using. I would love to see your take on this issue in upcoming videos
Hey….You can get all the pages on iPad. Just go to your keyboard shortcuts and add the hot keys, press em, and BOOM! All pages.
I’ve been following these videos pretty closely. Using Premiere on my m1 mini and teaching myself Resolve I was floored when the beta for iPad appeared. The idea of adding a new system and picking which has been top of mind.
I still don’t know what I’ll do. But this video really addressed my dilemma. 😉👍
Great video and opinion piece! Gives me a really good breakdown of both options available and I appreciate how you lay that out! I also liked your quick take on the Anker dongle; I could really use on those! Thanks!
Resolve for iPad is a huge game changer for me! I have tried to convince myself to get to know Premiere Pro, but I was never really able to understand how a lot of stuff works. Resolve on iPad on the other hand is very powerful and easy to understand which is important to me, since I only edit small videos for perhaps a family member or so. Not knowing how an app really works is, as many can probably imagine, very inconvenient. I also like how I can learn to use the app more by watching this series. Love it!
To the question on what device I would use if I had no other option: I would choose a Mac. Specifically, a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. Of course, with iPad paired with Magic Keyboard you don't just have a laptop-like experience, you also get a tablet for drawing or handwriting but Stage Manager or the desktop apps which were ported to iPad just don't feel ready yet. I feel like all apps will always have a priority on desktop devices than mobile devices. Don't get me wrong, I have an iPad myself and absolutely love handwriting, but sometimes I just want to have a keyboard integrated into the laptop instead of paying extra for a case which just looks cool. Not to forget, the trackpad on the Magic Keyboard is insanely small and iPadOS mostly relies on trackpad gestures. To get a bigger trackpad, you'll have to pay extra again to get Magic Trackpad. On the Mac, everything is just integrated. Also, a MacBook Pro could keep performance more consistent way better than on an iPad which has no fans at all. That performance throttling is a huge deal breaker when for example rendering or just editing with big and heavy footage in general.
I use my iPad Pro M2 12.9 as my one and only personal computer (tied to a windows laptop at work). I love the fact that I can connect to my external 32” 4k monitor and use it like a more traditional laptop (still figuring out Stage Manager). I use my iPad for everything. Illustrations in Procreate, reading comics, watching movies, doing personal budgeting, etc. The flexibility is simply amazing. Desk work, on the couch with a Magic Keyboard or in bed without a case on.
My main use for a video editor is to make movies of my kids from iPhone footage. I used to use LumaFusion, but will try to move over to DaVinci Resolve since it seems more feature rich. With the flexibility of the iPad and the power of the M2 I could not convince myself that I would benefit from any of the pros of a MacBook as a personal computing device when I upgraded last month.
Thank you for this video, it was very interesting to see the differences between the iPad and the MacBook!
Thanks for doing the videos on Resolve for the iPad!! And for the info on the Anker hubs!!
Thanks for the info on the new Resolve for ipad. Very interesting!
Hi! Thanks for this video. I love the comparison and insights!
Great comparison! Thank you so much for sharing insights! Like all your videos!
Thanks for all the iPad reviews, I've been intensely curious.
Great video! Thanks for going into so much detail. Currently battling the decision on which device to purchase in the new year. Subscribed 👊🏼
To dive a little deeper: iPad Pro. Cellular option is such a huge piece for me. I hate connecting to public wifi..
The screen on the iPad is also a winner for me, and lastly the ability to get comfy on the couch and use touch/gestures on the iPad to do some comfy editing is a HUGE bonus.
Very good content! Keep up with the good work!
Also, those anker seem awesome, would love to get my hands on one of them...
Love your videos! Keep ‘em up!
Whoa, Anker docks!!! Thank you so much and congrats❤
Been loving the videos about the program on iPad. Looking forward to when it finally releases.
Excellent comparison. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. Great video. There is no definite answer.
I was waiting for this video! Let's go!
Very nice. Considering exactly which of these will be most productive for me on the go, cutting on DaVinci, so thanks.
Was waiting for this vid, have both devices and am trying to understand the most convenient workflow
Love your comparison video and all the other videos on DaVinci for iPad. Thanks for the opportunity to win a dock.
thanks for the useful information, cheers ! :)
Great Video, just stumbled upon you. I would be very much interested on the Anker 😊
Cool video it was actually useful thanks
Great stuff Bro. Those Ankers look sweet. Congrats on winning that Award.
I’ve used Davinci resolve on a few different styles of devices. Low power laptops, gaming laptops, work station laptops and tower pc’s. Better hardware generally results in better user experience and maximizes the software but what I’ve loved about it is it works on whatever I have on hand. The fact that an iPad version is now available gives the opportunity to a person with an iPad to experience pro-esk editing software on a device they already own. Is it the best option of everyone? No probably not. But I love that it’s an option. Can’t wait to try it on Intel iPad Pro I have kicking around. Keep the iPad content coming.
intel ipad?
@@vijitdua bro is from parallel universe
@@genkaieditz1197 clearly
Great Video. I like using the speed editor and if the IPad works with it as stated I would consider for at least perusing the clips and doing first cuts.
Appreciate the review.. helpful.. love my iPad Pro m2
Thank you for making this video! I hope that one day we can edit resolve on the iPad mini. The hardest part of my workflow is organizing and culling footage. Now I can easily do that while still traveling at the same time. This saves so time and I can immediately start removing bad footage and flagging good footage right after shooting.
Great vids, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Man I could use one of those Anker supports. Great video, I love stuff like this!!
First off…Love the videos Michael. I watch everything you put out for the iPad. As soon as I saw the announcement for DR for iPad, I sold off my 11 inch M1 and bought a 12.9. Okay, so if the question is I could only have one…yeah I’ll go with the MacBook. But that’s not my case, and I don’t want it to REPLACE my desktop version. I’m really looking for it to COMPLEMENT my desktop version. Right now, I don’t have a MacBook at all. I have a Mac Studio, but no laptop. I had a couple of laptops over the last years, but I was home so much due to the pandemic, that I saw no need for a laptop. So for ME, having DR on iPad and the idea that I can CUT my edits, colorgrade and add titles, effects, transitions, all on the iPad…well that’s 75-80% of my workflow anyway. So why don’t I get another laptop? B/c I prefer the iPad experience over the laptop. It’s just more mobile to me. But yeah, it’s so funny that people will actually be mad that people want DR for ipad.
Hi, great to see the timeline performace but what about some export times? A side by side? Pleaseee;) The MB Pro is indeed a more complete machine in my opinion but the iPad 12.9 is more versatile in some cases like during a shot, since you can use as a monitor for example(with a teradek or smiliar), record or grab live stills for reference, take notes or open a script or a spread sheet amoung other things while gripped on a c-stand and the battery can old the entire shot.
The other point to think about is that the iPadPro can also be used for multiple other applications while on-set. In places where a laptop would have more opportunities to get damaged. If it's a "one-use" item, then the laptop makes sense. But for multiple uses, especially on-set, the iPadPro makes more sense.
Man I appreciate every single video you have uploaded. Not too mention all the free knowledge. Dope giveaway by the way.
I really could use this hub! Thanks!
Would love an anchor dock for my workflow! Great video! Just got a good deal on a used iPad Pro m1 and excited to give it a spin
Excellent! I've just started my video editing journey. Everything I've done so far is just with iMovie which is nowhere near feature rich enough for what I want to do. I'm definitely going to have to get some training with Resolve, but from what I've seen it is worth it. I have an M1 Max MBPro with 32Gb ram, and having the full version of Resolve makes the most sense for me, but I do have my eye on a new iPad (mine is so old that it can't take new iPadOS updates.) The idea, though, of being able to use Resolve on an iPad may convince me to go ahead and get the iPad Pro. We'll see. Thanks for the videos - I'm starting to explore your back catalog. Looking forward to learning from your channel.
Subscribed! I’ll take one of those! Just picked up an iPad Pro, look forward to messing with DaVinci
Keep making these iPad videos!!! I can't wait to get my hands on the public version of DR. Hoping the iPad will be the perfect bridge companion for travel
I appreciate your resolve iPad videos.
Hopefully I can get my hands on this dock
Love these vids you’re putting out man.
Speaking as a complete amateur: I enjoy the touch screen, pencil, and cellular capabilities of iPad; therefore, give it the win by a tiny nudge.
Nice Content for an ipad lover
I have no ipad till now of course but when i have one i'll take your content as a reference , definetely
Need that Anker hub for sure!!
Hey Michael great test I love the idea of being able to color grade on the go!! Thanks!! Are you still doing the giveaway?? Keep it up cheers!
I suppose it boils down to where you do the majority of your editing, maybe overruled by personal preference. Not much different in portability between a 14" laptop and a 12.9" tablet with a keyboard cover. Ports do matter though. External monitor support, along with a hub on the iPad, does allow it be used as a home studio system, and screen real estate difference between 12.9" and 14" isn't much. How valuable is using Pencil to you?
I still prefer editing on a 16" MBP, but it is pretty nice to be able to edit with a lightweight, on the go solution in the iPad 12.9" that continues to increase its value in utility with subsequent iOS updates and software support.
I suppose the question is whether Apple will ever make, not just market the iPad as a "true" replacement option for the MBP.
Dope review
I’m looking at the iPad version and not sure if the tracking feature is there. If so, could you do a wee tutorial on it?? Great info so far.
Cool comparison 🎉
Your review was too good I get all may answers Thank You You are way Too much Helpful
Appreciate your effort on the comparison. It is just the starting era of the ARM architecture and no one knows how it may change the tablet/laptop ecosystem in the future. It is not which one is better than the other but a supplementary to each other imho (like the introduction of cross-platform Freeform app)
Now that you have found how to unlock all the pages on the Ipad, does this change your thoughts?
How do we get the DaVinci app for iPad Pro? Thanks for the video 👍
Great video man! So much learned here today. I came for the video and left with a lot learned, and hopefully a giveaway winner. 🎉😂
Amazing review to great product and allsomme channel 👍
My primary device is the 16” MacBook Pro Max with 64GB RAM. I love the touch interface on the iPad for a lot of my day to day tasks (mail, web, zoom, RUclips), but the MBP when sitting down to get work done.
Edit page is already there as well as the other missing pages.
Also I think this is great ! For me it will be very useful for me when I’m at work at night! Just riding around in the parking at work! Just so I can do my quick editing, just putting the timeline together putting my music on the timeline maybe do a little bit of color grading. And for the big stuff get back onto the project when I get back home on my 16 inch MacBook! That’s again thanks for the videos
Im using it as an on the go secondary device. It'll be nice to do a rough cut and color grade with the ipad screen, but my desktop and the desktop version has all the features I need to complete my videos.
I’m debating this right now. I have a 2017 iPad Pro as my only personal “computing device”… i.E. I stopped replacing my Mac in 2019. I do everything on the iPad Pro. I’m now looking to upgrade, but I’m finding it really hard between M2 MacBook Pro (basic model) or M2 iPad Pro (12.9, 1TB model). They’re pretty much the same price when you factor in the MK and pencil. But, I think I’ve just become accustomed to the touch screen, the pencil, the portability, the comfort of just holding it and reading an article in portrait. Also, I’ve spent a lot on iPad apps over the years for everything from photo editing, video editing and music making, and games. Most of these apps have Mac equivalents, but at MUCH higher prices, like 2-3 times the price which I would then have to buy again in most cases for a Mac. Interestingly, now that DaVinci Resolve has been released on iPad, I think this has seriously tipped the scales in favour of the iPad, because I have felt like I’ve outgrown Luma Fusion. I would still love to see Final Cut and Logic Pro on the iPad, but I think if I had to chose right now, it’s the 12.9 iPad Pro M2 with 1TB and all the trimmings. I’m also looking forward to the XDR display.
At last, we are seeing a professional app for video editing for our iPads. And I could not be more happy of this app being Resolve. I use Resolve for 90% of my video work. But when I can't get things done on my computer I grab my iPad and use Luma Fusion. Very often I export Luma's editing as XML and import it into Resolve to get things finished. One key Luma limitation is color: beyond being able to import LUTs there is pretty much nothing else we can do there. Things are changing with Resolve now! I can't wait to be able to use it.
Great video. I am just getting into video editing (personal projects), and have tried iMovie & LumaFusion, as well as DaVinci. A long-story made short, I am a "redundant guy" in that because of my weekly business travels, I have 2 of everything just in case. So, I am going to add DaVinci on my M1 iPad Pro 12.9" so that I can try/learn on both the iPad & M1 MBA 13". I like your comment about color grading with the Apple Pencil.
I was just think about how I need something like these hubs . As I come into my third year of creating. I’m learning fast that. My old way of storing data is not gonna keep working. The ole 10 plus orange drives I got hanging around . Oh and don’t get me started on how many are hanging of the MacBook as we speak.!
It’s getting out of hand . So I’ve been looking all through amazon to see what my next solution should be?
I’ve came to my decision, and first off I need a hub, like so. Then have it send to a raid system with the 3.5 ssds.
Anyway I just thought it was cool that this was one of the first things you started talking about!! Lol 😂 love your channel bro keep them coming !
I’m bout to get the iPad
I am new in video editing.
And I will first start with MBP and Resolve.
After then when I have opportunity I try iPAD version.
Thanks for the great video! Since I already have an M1 iPad Pro, would you suggest me to buy a MacBook Pro M3 pro to edit videos with Da Vinci? Or do you think iPad Pro is going to be enough?
Depends on what you editing imo
Waited for this video... btw finally usefull sponzor :D
Please explain how to do portrait layout. Regular feature doesn’t really work. It applies weird frame and you cannot scale your vide to frame edges
As an upcoming RUclipsr Resolves on the iPad seems like the way to go for me and my plans with it, been waiting on this for awhile actually!!! This
Is your iPad 16GB RAM? Also the other pages are available with command keys, but still a work in progress.
Is there a way to link iPad Davinci as a supplementary monitor with your Mac Davinci?
Those Anker docks seem actually essential for an IPad Pro to somewhat replace the same functionality of a MacBook Pro in my books, at least in my day-to-day usage
@initialfocus Thanks for the information! Good informative video!
I have a question though, I have both the MacBook pro M1 and the IPad Pro M1. You can only use the davincii resolve key on 1 device. Which device should you recommend if I need to edit footage with doing color grading and doing the other editing on Lumfusion for example. Which device should I activate davincii resolve Studio?
Thanks for the course!! Can't wait to go through it. Do have a question though... how would i be able to import a set of Titles that i use a lot on the desktop version, into the iPad? Is that possible?
Hey thanks for joining! I’ll be adding stuff to it and refining it in the next few days! And depends on the title but a lot seem to be able to be transferred! I’ll do a video on that within the course very soon!
Will DaVinci Resolve work on an M1 iPad Air? Great video!
Bro try to make a video about DaVinci resolve in iPad vs a windows lap or Desktop
People like me that want Resolve on an Ipad already have it on a Laptop and in many cases also a workstation. I agree the Ipad version in most cases should not be your only version. Becouse the iPad version supports cloud projects it more of an extension of the PC/Mac version and not really a replacement. That could change as they expand on it but the beta version appears to exceed any existing Ipad Video editor.
do i have to buy 2 davinci resolve studio for both ipad and macbook pro? or I can only buy which one of it one time, and then I can install to both device?
I would like to learn more about your Davinci program
Hey Thanks! The course actually just went live! www.initialfocusmedia.com/ipad-course 🙌🏻
Just waiting for them to finally release it
Those Anker docks will pair really well with Davinci on a MacBook
Does anyone know if RGB Mixer is available in the IPad version? I’m struggling to find this feature…
sick vid
Can you use PostreSQL project database in DaVinci Resolve iPad? Also thinking how low end iPad you can use for DR. Ultra portable video editor with iPad mini? 😅
finally a decent video editor for iPad, after more than 10 years of waiting
Anger docks are cool. I like the iPad’s hybrid workflow.
What were the specs on the iPad and the MacBook?
I love my iPad Pro M1. Been happy using LumaFusion, but I really think I will dig DaVinci.
Down for that Anker Dock
How is the battery life drain on both for a full session of editing without multitasking from 100%?
And could DIT have same experience doing quick Dailies Edit at the end of a day’s shoot….
finally got to download resolve to my ipad today.
Am curious if Davinci for iPad keeps support for Multi-Cam editing. Lastly, I wish you could make me an happy ending of 2022 by giving me the Anker Hub. I have their Power-bank and it is a beast….
And speed of export????
Thank you for showing the differences in Resolve between the MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro.
I went with the iPad Air 5 BECAUSE DaVinci Resolve by the way. My main work program is Figma, I can work with it through Safari just fine with only two main issue is that the trackpad pinch and the bubble cursor didn't change to resize mode inside Safari. Other than that I can basically do everything I can do in a laptop. I decided to go with the iPad is because I don't want to have two separate device anymore. I need the iPad for sketch and brainstorming my design so it's a must have device for me. While I already got work laptop from work, me buying another laptop for my personal use would ended up me having so many device at one time. So I decided to sold my M1 Air and iPad 9 and completely moved the the M1 iPad because Figma and Resolve exists on iPad now and I wished I had done it sooner because I never thought an M chip iPad would be this good. Note that my usecase of Resolve is not that complex, just cutting footages and arrange them, light color correction and stuffs. The most advance thing I need from Resolve is the object tracking for censoring stuffs. So it's basically more than doable through the iPad. It's great to have one device that cater to all of my needs now.
I would go for macbook pro:
1. double usb-c (one for charging, second for drive)
2. bigger screen - I would go for 14´
3. muuuch bigger trackpad - one of the main advantages of macbook pro over air
4. 16gb of ram, or 32gb possibly, depending on the model
5. I just feel the new anker dock would fit better with a macbook pro :)
pros and cons for ipad:
1. can use pencil
2. lighter
3. can serve as pre-edit versions
4. can be used as second screen for macbook pro
How do I download DR on my iPad ?
How do get the DR iPad beta?
